There are two competing interest - one customer wants to bring her umpteen kids with her, so she doesn't have to pay for the sitter - legitimate interest. Competing interest is other customers would like to get into the store sooner, so they don't have to stay outside. Also legitimate interest. Costco weighed them and decided they'd rather let more paying customers in. Their club, their decision., their rules. You don't like the rules, you can always ask for your dues back, they will cheerfully reimburse you for your trouble.

BTW, once the lady cursed the guy, she lost all moral title to anything. It's OK to be disappointed with something, not OK to start blasting a stranger just because he wouldn't do something you want them to do.

My family back in Poland is reporting to me there is more available personal protective equipment for ciizens there than here. My sister is getting masks from her employer, the Post Office will also drop some masks to citizens' mailboxes, paid by the city. This is America, I always thought things will somehow spring up from some initial shortages that always happen, but it increasingly feels like the government is leaving us to our own devices. Disinfectants are still unavailable, masks nowhere to be found. I went to Walmart couple of days ago - no fabric, no rubber bands, nothing that can be used for mask. Amazon - everything that's relevant has delivery in late May or June, at exorbitant prices. It is challenging my Almighty USA picture.

Michael, yes, out the door, for some strange reason, can mean many things to many people.

@graphicguy ...I've seen a lot of these certified one.owner cars with a couple thousand milss. When I look.at the Carfax,.it's stayed with the dealership. So not sure what's going on, other than the dealership makes more money on a certified car so they're wanting to crank them out.

@dino001 - I've read what was on their web site about fine print on warranty. But funny you should mention the fine print. I read that to maintain the lifetime powertrain warranty, you have to bring in your vehicle after 7 years...for a free inspection. You have a 2 month grace.period. After that you get to pound sand.
Looks like Honda Universe a bit slippery too.

@houdini - thanks. If I'm in the neighborhood Ill check out that Civic for you. It honestly surprised me at how much it has grown since 2012. If it has a nice comfy ride...who knows. But its gonna cost you guys at least another week of reading my posts. ;-)

Houdini - on my need for speed....oh, it's there. But, it's buried a bit under my paranoia of not causing any damage to the car. So, generally I'm a somewhat.conservative driver....but there are times I like to put the hammer down.LOL

    Price $24,359
    Destination $1,045
    Doc fee. $299
    Ky sales tax. $1,542
    Fees $90
    Out the door. $27, 335
So about a grand more than I expected. No mention of dealer add ons. Which I'll check on. I had already asked if Honda Universe would match the $24,359 price. Wait ing to hear back....

As you know it's about a 90-minute drive each way to Florence. Seems unlikely, but what if the car gets sold just as you were driving there? Also, once you get there I'd worry about a surprise of some kind. And then you'd have spent most of the day. Still, even with the thousand dollar surprise it seems like a good price for an Accord EX, which is a solid choice.

The 1.5 turbo it's still powerful enough for this car imho. We have an almost identical Honda 1.5T in our 2018 CR-V, and so far it seems like a good engine.

As you said, maybe try a counter offer on one of the Certified Pre-Owned Accords at Honda World? Maybe 22.5k for the pearl/ivory? It looks like they have 3 2020 CPO Accord EXs in stock, but this one is listed at 2k less than the others, even though they all have similar miles. I wonder if it's the color? I like the pearl on ivory, and it does seem like the "value buy" of the bunch. It's listed at 24.5, while the silver on black is listed at 26.5.

Well, my daughter lives in Newport, I guess about 20 minute from Florence. So wouldn't be a total loss, as I could visit her.

But, what would you recommend to keep that from happening?.Could the dealer send a.sales contract via email, and I could send it back with my signature...with an addendum saying the sale of the car is contingent on a satisfactory test drive?

The Honda World guy is checking on vehicle colors and.price match.

Mazda sales manager says she wants my business. Says I can take the car home and show my wife. Smart. I told her I may, but a nice.long test.drive would suffice. I may go for the test.drive tomorrow, and see how those. I really liked the interior, not as.roomy as the Accord, and ride not as smooth....that I could tell from that not very testing test.drive from a few days ago.

Yeh, a free inspection after 7 years, but the cost of the repairs they find will add up to a lot more than free.

Reminds me of real estate agents....and we'll give you a free appraisal of how much your home is worth. Right, so that you can have me sign your contract.....doing nothing more than any other agent would do. WOW!

I agree with that approach. Just from what you've posted, the 6 is less desirable to you than the Accord.

All Accords should drive the same - once you've decided on the trim level and engine you want, email all the dealers you are willing to travel to for their best price.

Rinse and repeat as necessary, until you get the lowest price that includes all taxes and fees.

Years ago, I was negotiating for a car for my stepdaughter - lots of dealers advertising the "lowest" price, but you had to then ask for the dealer doc fee, which varied by a couple hundred dollars. Taxes are the same, as in Colorado it's based on the registration address, and registration costs are a separate transaction handled at the county level, so not part of the negotiation with the dealer.

Figure out the different parts of the "OTD" price for KY (or OH, if you plan to shop there), so you can do a true "apples to apples" comparison between dealer quotes. You should be able to do most of this from the comfort of your home, and you should also inquire as to whether the dealer will deliver the car and paperwork to you.

@jipster : I'm not sure how to make sure a deal in another city goes through.

I like the exterior looks of the Mazda 6 better than the Accord. And back in the 80s and 90s my parents owned a Mazda B2000 LX pickup, and my older sister owned a Mazda 323 back then. And more recently I used to own a Mazda 5, which was a small station wagon that they don't make anymore. Anyway, all of these Mazdas were good vehicles. Small point probably, but Accords are made in Ohio, while all Mazdas are imported. A bigger point is that there are at least twice as many Honda dealers as Mazda dealers in the US. Honda as you know is second only to Toyota or the big 3 when it comes to sales. What that means is that there are places for service and repair almost everywhere for a Honda, while for a Mazda not so much. Although I like the looks of the Mazda 6 better than the Accord, my personal belief is that overall the Accord might have better engineering.

@jipster....I'd want to know what that $90 fee is. I know they're loath to nix the doc fee, but I got Wyler to throw in two years of oil changes for me to drop my request for a $50 doc fee (what I think it's actually worth for them to process).

In OH Doc fees are capped at $250.

I still think it's shady that any dealership charges that. If they don't want to pay their employees to process the docs, I'll keep the $250 and do it myself.

I don’t know what the dealer fee cap is in SC/NC but several dealers are charging $799, which is outrageous. Sales tax is capped at $600 in SC, but then the city/county wacks you yearly with a tax based upon the value of your vehicle. It was around $150 on the 06 TL and $500+ on the 16 Q5.

I remember when Jeff Wyler had one store and I lived nearby. Cars like eggs are cheaper in the country was the motto for his ads. Yeah. Sure. Now he owns an empire of stores from Springfield Ohio to Louisville KY.

I've met him a few times. My older sister is friends with his wife. Pretty nice guy. I don't know him well enough to pull the old "I'm friends with Jeff" at the dealerships, as he probably wouldn't remember my name.

His sons pretty much run his empire these days. And, I do remember his original tag line of cars being cheaper in the country.

Mike Dever was friends with my late Father. He also started small (Dever Buick) in Cincinnati and built an empire based on mortgaging himself to the hilt to get a Honda dealership in the early '80s....right after that, you couldn't buy a Honda without agreeing to an ADM sticker as they were that popular. Then he bought a Toyota dealership shortly thereafter, and they had the first Lexus dealership in SW Ohio, and the beat goes on.

Same thing, met him a couple of times through my Father. Closest I came to getting a deal from his store was an '88 Accord I bought at $250 under MSRP (one of the ones with green paint and green caused velour interior).

His daughter is pretty much running his empire, too.

@jipster ...if at all possible, see if you can find out who the Gen Mgr is and talk to him, or at least one of his Sales Manager Sargents. Those are the guys who have the figures and and make a deal. Wyler definitely has a hierarchy that they try to stick to. The only ones who can pull off skinny deals is usually the GM. And, I'm proof they're amenable to doing so....especially now.

Went last night to Costco to get some of my much loved and treasured Kirkland Vitamin Water.

No lines, per se, but they were only letting 2 people in per membership. Some lady, with 3 kids in tow, insisted the rules didn’t apply to her since the people with her were her kids. Poor door monitor tried to explain that it didn’t matter how they people were or weren’t related to the card holder, only 2/membership were allowed in. She asked me if I could have one of her kids go with me. NO! I explained to her she still couldn’t get in because that would mean she had 3 people with her.

She cussed me and the door monitor. What is with people?

Anyway, not sure if any people use the tiny hi res action cams, but I do. When I ride my bike on the trails, when I go on vacation, special events, etc, I use one to keep track of the event. I enjoy adding music and editing my footage to keep for my perusal.

I had been using a GoPro 3 for these duties. It’s about 7 years old. And, although rugged, mounting it on my bike, dropping it, tossing it in and out of my luggage, etc it’s pretty much outlived usefulness (although it still works) and is just one more shock away from biting the bullet. The battery door is now being held on by a small sliver of home made duct tape.

Costco had a deal on a GoPro Hero8, which is the current top of the line GoPro. It’s waterproof (without using a bulky water proof case), records in 4K and has the best image stabilization in the biz (something very important for an action cam). These things at Best Buy are $400.

Costco has them, with a case, two batteries, a 32GB SD card, and a GoPro handle mount for $289. Still contemplating getting it. But, for those who do any sort of video, that’s a screaming deal. That’s about a $500 bundle.

Looking at my current GoPro and trying to decide if it’s time for me to say adios to it. It’s seen a whole lot of family outings, vacations, bike rides, lots of world wide geography.

I'm siding with the lady here. As a family with one kid, and knowing how hard that is to raise them, I sympathize with those that have 2, 3, 4, or even more kids.

It took having a baby for me to empathize for the single moms out there.

Also, since Costco precharges for memberships, they shouldn't be able to change any rules on the fly (maybe only annually), or if they do, they should have offered that lady a full refund for her yearly dues at a MINIMUM.

This is an example of horrid customer service. Another example is Albertsons in CA charging 10 cents a bag because that's the law. They won't let you use reuseable bags, even if you certify they haven't been used in 72 hours. Trader Joes did this correctly, they waive the $0.10 charge on new bags. You want to change the rules, YOU PAY FOR IT!
You want horrid customer service, you should live in NY. Our governor mandate masks in public knowing full well that there isn’t a mask to be found in all of NY.
Agreed, if you want to mandate something, then you better be prepared to hand out free stuff. The enforcement police should be handing out masks, not ticketing people that don't have them. If someone fails to comply even with an offering of a free mask, then you can pull out the revenue-generation ticketing book.

The cap is probably on the store owner's head, but not in SC Statutes. But you have nothing on Florida, sir. It's a favorite pass time for local dealers to compete for highest fee in the region. I saw several crossing thousand bucks. Many stores have more than one fee charged, usual structure is huge sub-$1000 plus sub-$100, sometimes there is even a third one, 10 bucks or so. Almost like they discovered a decimal system. Most notorious offenders are Japanese and Korean brand "superstores", but domestic and European are not far behind.

I do think Amazon should give everyone a free year of Prime since they can't meet their 2-day shipping obligation lately. Also being out of stock of everything sort of negates the benefits of fast shipping.

Bezos can definitely afford to do this.

my wife sewed masks for us. There are also lots of videos on YouTube about how to make one without sewing. And if you don't have elastic, can use shoe laces. Or like Sandy, a bandanna. They don't actually require a medical style mask, just some sort of reasonable face covering.

if that is what I need to do to be able to go out and about in the world, and have some places re-open, fine by me!

The Mazda sales manager reached out to me. I told her I was close to pulling the trigger on an Accord, but if she had an aggressive sales number I'd consider taking another look. Told her I may call in the morning to set up another test drive.

With the Honda dealerships, I'm at a Accord EX...the 1.5 is good enough for my needs.I did tell both dealerships I like silver or red....I believe. Thinking that if I was a bit flexible on color, they'd be more likely to make a deal. But, I see your/firefighters point. Need to keep it narrowed down and focused.

I'd say the 6 is slightly less desirable than the Accord.. But I really wasn't able to give the 6 a proper test drive as the salesman I had to follow was in his company car going 35 mph. The 6 felt a bit course on the test drive,.not as spacious. Both are winners in my book.

So I'd probably shop Accords,.or 6's, within a 2 hour radius. That would probably be in my comfort zone...maybe 3 hours. I'd imagine dealers delivering from outside city limits will cost some $$$.

So, I want to give it a fair shake. No regrets.

Took my car out today for the first time in about 2 weeks. Had to go to the bank, then took a bit of a joy ride to give it some exercise. I had forgotten how nice it drove! Whatever errands I have to run the rest of the weekend will be in the TLX. I have been alternating weeks between the 2 cars to at least keep them someone charged up.

I did a 70 mile or so trip today with the kids in the Volvo.

Up 295 to 70, 206 down to Hammonton and then the WHP to Evesham into Deptford to pick up Chik Fil A for the kids. It was a very nice ride, virtually no traffic. There was a truck doing 40 on 206. Passed him with the quickness. My son said, Daddy this car is too fast. I had to laugh.

Came home and the new swing set for the kids was delivered. I built that thing and they were happy, but didn’t get much time before I made them come in.

Honda might be a better long term investment but the Mazda would be more fun to drive. If they still have that deep red color I’d have a hard time turning it down. What’s the price difference?

Mazda can look pretty good too! It's a hard choice, if going by looks.

As a general rule, if close I prefer to go with the more popular one....easier to find service, easier to resell. And there seems to be a reason why one car outsells another. But, there can be exceptions too.

My son's daycare was at the end of a twisting two lane with a lot of elevation changes. I either drove my Thunderbird Turbo(5 speed manual) or the Club Sport. In the T Bird I put his car seat in the front and he enjoyed the view. One day my wife took him to daycare in her Pathfinder SE. After the first couple of turns he said "Mommy, there's nobody in front of you." My wife asked him why he said that and he replied. "Because now you can go fast."She then as asked if Daddy went fast and he said, "Yeah, Daddy goes FAST!"

So I took the Mini to my BMW dealer today(decided to wait on a test drive, the dealer has been hassled by the authorities if they do anything other than service cars). Anyway, it looks like things are back to the way they were before Louisville had a Mini dealership- my dealer has access to Mini parts and tech information. They were even able to do a key read and-just like a BMW-an image of the Clubman popped up on the key read screen in the correct color with all the installed options.
Hopefully the upstream O2 sensor quandary will be resolved; before I bought the Clubman the PO had it replaced
by the Mini dealer at 90,600 miles and again at my indie shop at 106,000 miles. The sensor started throwing a code for me at 121,000 miles. My SA texted me to let me know the sensor wasn't just testing out of range bur rather way, WAY out of range. Very odd considering I've never replaced an O2 sensor on any of my BMWs except for the Club Sport- and that was due to an emissions recall.

Great, so now you can have some hacker taking control of your spin cycle.

What’s the internet connection for, does it talk to you or just email you? I’d hate to get a call from my washer laughing about my socks.
My guess is so that you can do things like check the status of the machine, get notifications or make adjustments to cycles remotely.
Without having used the app, I can infer from the way the panel operates. My old Cabrio had buttons and a rotating dial in the middle for picking cycle types. The buttons modified temp, spin speed, extra rinse, etc.. Things could be changed after the cycle started. However, the new one has everything picked before the cycle start button is pushed. There are buttons on the left to pick cycle, then buttons on the right to modify that cycle in some cases, and a row of small buttons along the bottom to modify. A few bottom buttons can change things after the cycle started, I think.

But the algorithm is run through on the machine, or by touching buttons on the app. And then you push start and the process goes. Almost no changes after that.

So you can sit and watch cable news while you set up the machine for the clothes you already put in. There is no way to put the clothes in remotely, yet. LOL

It has taken reading instructions to understand the new machine vs the old. The laundry detergent is metered in based on the strength of the HE detergent you use. That is one modification to be made in the steps--or you can turn off the automatic detergent and do it yourself.

The machine also has a squirter with a button on the left under the lid so you can water down stains on clothes, e.g., (choose hot or cold), and a little scrub brush on the other side that you fill with stain remover or detergent and brush the spot in advance while putting those clothes in. I knew these features were on the one my darling bride liked, so we just bought the TLX model washer.

Installers didn't do a good job of leveling. So I'm going to have to redo the legs. Not easy in that end of our utility room because of width.

The first time I did my own washing was in college, and I asked my roommate how does a washing machine work. He said go to the laundromat, put your 50 cents in, push the button...those are the easiest ones to use.

I would settle on which car you want - make, model, color, trim, options, before pitting dealers against one another on price for a car you aren't sure you want...

    But that is just me.

@benjaminh - We had a 2004 Mazda MPV, which came out a little bit before the Mazda 5. We.really liked it. Agree with the looks of the 6. on engineering, Mazda's reliability history, handling looks pretty good. I've been thinking about a Mazda 6, for my next car, for about a decade. So, I want to give it a fair shake. No regrets.

@graphicguy - On the $90 fee...probably just another random obscure fee. But, I'll ask if it comes to that point. I was going to throw $200 in the OTD pot for "fees". So, they'll have to work that.out.
Honda might be a better long term investment but the Mazda would be more fun to drive. If they still have that deep red color I’d have a hard time turning it down. What’s the price difference?
    Well, I would probably...well maybe..
get the base Mazda 6 as has most everything I'd want. So about $3,700 less MSRP than the Accord EX. Neil Huffman Mazda was discounting the base $4,000 and the Touring $3,200 Think on just the bases the Accord about a grand more
They still have that nice red in stock. Don't think it's as good a red as previous generation. But good enough

I've bought a few cars after the dealer accepted my OTD offer. There was nothing else, no fees or anything. They couldn't get exactly to my offer a couple times and the total price was a few dollars less than my offer.
