Here is a different one. Emma Raducanu was born in Toronto and moved to England when she was 2....she plays as a Brit!

Raducanu was born on 13 November 2002 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Ian and Renee, who originated from Bucharest, Romania and Shenyang, China respectively. She attributed her mentality and ethics to her tennis idols Simona Halep and Li Na, both from countries of her ancestry. Both of her parents work in the finance sector. Her family moved to England when she was two years old. She started playing tennis at the age of five.

The second shingrix shot got a good reaction from my body when I took it. I didn't
expect it because the first shot had very little effect.

It's brave taking both the regular flu shot and the covid flu shots together...

It seems most people have negative reactions to shingrix. But, I've heard horror stories from those who've had shingles. Worth the trade-off, to me.

    .
Mrs D100 and I have never had a reaction to our flu shots which we get every year.
We were both very tired after our Shingrix vaccine....lasted for about a day or a day and a half.
I hear that is very common.
We know a few people who have had Shingles........ you want to avoid it if at all possible.

Shingles can be quite itchy any painful but the whole thing behind the Shingrix vaccination is to decrease the chances of getting post-herpetic neuralgia which can last weeks or months. It can cause pain, scarring and abnormal sensations and can be quite disabling and become chronic.

A good friend got what you just describes carnaught. It has changed her life completely. It got into her eye and she has changed from a vibrant senior into someone who can't do nearly as much as she could before.

btw....is there a story behind the name carnaught? Not to get too personal - don't have to answer :(

My dad had a case of the shingles when he was 70. Completely changed the trajectory of his life. Couldn't play golf, became pretty much a shut-in, was in constant pain that nothing could attenuate. He tried western medicine, eastern medicine, surgery - one flare up was above his left eye.

Was hard to watch him decline - he suffered with it for 10 years before he passed.

I had a chance to exercise the 2er a bit today; I was on my way home from a seminar on impaired driving prosecutions and I decided to take a more circuitous route. I have to say that I really like being able to switch into attack mode by pushing the mode button and slotting the shift lever into the Sport/Manual gate. I floored it away from a light and once the tires hooked up the ZF 8HP shifted almost like the revered "bang-screech" TH400 in my friend's 1970 LS6 Chevelle(which he still owns).

There’s something indescribably visceral about letting a powerful car rip. :p

A good hustling cop can do a ticket every 15 minutes easy. 8 hours @ 4 tickets per hour is 32 tickets. So 2 Officers could easily write 50.

I would say it would be around 20 minutes or so from pulling out to pull someone over to setting up again. The variable is how long it will take for someone to speed by fast enough to warrant being pulled over. I would say about 2 an hour would be the average. Then consider that unless it's a serious offense you have a slightly less than 50% chance of a warning I would say that there had to be at least 5 officers or the 50 tickets were over the whole three day weekend.

I'd like to think our good Officers out there are better than you describe, as you put it, they have a one-track mind laser focused on speeding violations while ignoring the other 39,999 vehicle codes, including DUI, unsafe lane changes, impeding traffic, reckless driving, failure to stop, and many other violations. I get speeding is the cash cow, but other violations are written.

Also, while Police might give warnings, your 50% warning rate would be about 40% off with the CHP. You get pulled over by the CHP, you can count on getting a ticket at least as well as you can count on pocket aces in Texas Hold'em.
If an officer is sitting in one spot monitoring traffic he can only enforce laws that are broken in his/her field of vison. If someone habitually makes unsafe lane changes the odds of the officer seeing them do it are a lot less then something that they are consistently doing like speeding. Where as a habitual speeder is going to be more likely to pass the officer while speeding.

The odds of getting an ace is around 7.7% so the odds of getting pocket aces is around half a percent so if you can count on getting a ticket as well as you can count on pocket aces then the CHP gives out very few tickets.

One of my coworkers is a former Maryland State Trooper and he claims that while he did a lot of traffic stops he never wrote a ticket. Always gave warnings instead.

You mean that the best way to control a skid isn’t to step on the gas harder? ;)

When I watch those videos I shake my head at the poor driving skills. It’s as if they are all new teen drivers who got a Mustang for graduation and never drove a RWD before. When we were young and stupid we would go out to snow covered parking lots and have some fun while learning how to correct a skid. Back then everything was RWD except a few GM and Euro cars.

    Seems to be mostly true.

Our local water authority did some work along the road in front of my house last summer. When they are finished digging they fill the hole with stone. They come back later, after it settles, and remove some of the stone and put in topsoil and seed it.

This summer I hadn't seen any of the, about 8, places where they dug, repaired. I called them and was caller number 1 in the queue. :D

I mentioned that they had not fixed any of the areas from last summer. The lady was very nice and said she would pass the information along. The next day they were out fixing the areas. The following day I realized they fixed all of them except for mine. :s

I called yesterday and I was number 1 again. They must not get many calls.

My wife doesn't mind hard acceleration or taking corners at double the posted advisory speed, but she definitely dislikes the Stoplight Grand Prix. I reserve that for solo drives or when my son is riding shotgun.

SC apparently works differently than NJ when it comes to title work. The lawyer takes care of it rather than a specific title company. Anyway, I'm thinking that might be the holdup for us in the end. When we were first put in contact with the lawyer, we were assigned a "Real Estate Opener" and instructed to filter everything through her. I let her know when the inspection was done and she said "Great!" I have heard absolutely nothing from her otherwise. So I emailed last night to make sure the title search was in progress. This Opener replied that we've been assigned an Opener and here is her contact info. Oh boy.

Ouch! Yes quite a bit different from Jersey.

My lead driver at Enterprise sold his Versa to Carvana and did pretty well but has yet to purchase a replacement. He has a Civic in his garage, an older one that he's working on, but it's not near close enough to be roadworthy. Between his mom, his friends & me, we get him where he's got to be and since he lives just a bit south of me, have no issue dropping him off at night. I go south anyways so why not. He's a 35 year old kid and he's working with all retirees but he's a very respectful & nice person who doesn't seem to mind. He's been carless for about 10 weeks now but keeps looking. I'm amazed at how so many dealers have almost no inventory, new or used. So glad I'm not in the market right now to be honest and just hope the dealers who are charging crazy admin fees remember that many will not forget when the tide turns. Things always need to be fair...on both sides. Don't think things have been this bad since WW II with the lack of inventory and just hope that things will improve way before the end of 2022!

Plan on getting the shingles shot sooner than later as my doctor keeps telling me. He's just retired so guess I'll end up at a CVS or Walgreens. Have heard that with Medicare & my secondary health insurance, it should cost me nothing out of pocket. Since I'm finally done with my crown that needed done this year, the shots come next. Have only one more crown to get done, and then we're finally done. And will wait till the beginning of 2022 to have it done.

Assuming the inspection issues can be resolved, my closing is supposed to be in about 5 weeks. We'll see. Mortgage broker is already having me prepare for final docs, so he's optimistic, but I am a little worried about the issues found in the inspection (I am paying for a relatively turn-key house, and I expect it to be that way). Seller is a speculator and is making a small windfall for little effort, I hope he just wants to move it on, and will be cooperative.

@fintail , broker today said they just ordered the appraisal. I asked how long and he said 10-14 days.

To results, or just to get them out there? It mirrors what we saw just last month. We were extra delayed on the appraisal because some knucklehead originally inputted it as a re-fi.

Every part of the process is backed up. Our Realtor said she has had several clients miss closing because of bank delays.

Yeah, it's a 65 year old house - it will have some flaws. I am willing to do some small stuff and cosmetic issues. A couple of the issues the inspector said would be an issue with appraisal (one the owner already said he'd fix), and the big one is a possible issue with water intrusion in a few places - I thought it was just a faded wood floor, but the inspector says otherwise. I'll want a clean bill of health in this area before signing on the dotted line, and to have the floors repaired if needed. Current owner has never lived in the house and I suspect waived inspection when he bought it, so it might be a surprise to him too - but it's work that any inspector will likely call out.

Today had a bit of a kink in the process, inspection. 90% of it was great, a few small issues, and a couple larger ones to deal with, hopefully won't derail the process.

Not at all unusual for an inspector to find issues with any house that has some age to it. Usually, if it is a wear-and-tear thing or an obsolete whatever, you try to reach some sort of compromise instead of demanding it be totally replaced. In my case I remember there were two issues and we agreed the seller would cover one and I would cover the other.

Suspected water intrusion is a difficult thing if it is not constant and predictable. It may have had issues in the past that are now fixed, or it may have an issue that only presents itself under certain specific conditions. If it cannot be easily replicated or a likely source found, you or the seller can be chasing ghosts. Normally there is a clause in the agreement where the seller warrants certain things to be true, so perhaps that could be amended to include a specific clause about this issue for some period of time after closing where they will take responsibility. Or if there is some doubt about the inspector's conclusions, a second set of eyes could be brought in.

We were saved by a home inspection that worked in our favor.
We put $10000 down on a place in Florida. The home inspector found 3 things and the seller agreed to fix 2. They wouldn't fix a light switch which no one knew what it was connected to...there attitude was take it or leave it.
Just at that time the unit we really wanted became available, so we told our agent we would pay him the total commission on this new unit (this one was the owner selling privately, on the other one he would have to split the commission).
Of course the owners of the first unit said they would sue, keep the deposit etc.
But we could get out of it because they refused to fix something we asked to be repaired.
Paying that commission hurt a bit at the time, but this unit was much nicer and would be worth much more if we were to sell today.
    We were lucky!

On the way home from tennis today I was on a highway, 2 lanes going Eastbound. I stay in the left lane because my cut off is about 8 miles ahead and it is a leftlane cut off....it is hard to move over if you leave it too late. I keep up with the flow of traffic though.....I don't want to impede anyone.

I see a guy in a new black Audi behind me....pretty close to my bumper. If I move out of his way he will only get one car ahead...too many cars in the lane ahead.
I saw that he could get around me on the right side....I could move over but if he wants to move in front he can wedge himself into the right lane and then wedge his way in front of me.
I was glad to get rid of him being on my rear bumper, and I left a bit of space as he was on the bumper of the car that was in front of him....and he had his brake lights on quite a bit of the time.
When we got to my cutoff he was still in the same place...he would have been there either way.
I am thinking....he probably thinks he is the worlds greatest driver doing these maneuvers, but in reality, he is a poor driver because he doesn't leave any margin for error...if traffic stopped he wouldn't be able to stop and the lanes beside him can't be used. And the other drivers have to drive more carefully to make up for his ignorance.

Honest, you’re not the only one that encounters drivers like this. I see it almost every time I’m driving. Why do you think insurance rates are what they are? The good have to pay for the bad and I don’t see it ever changing; bad drivers or low insurance rates.

Wait, what? there are still bad drivers out there? There can't be as the inconsiderate drivers forum is dead, doesn't that mean everyone is driving properly?

I'm in the process of combining one of my IRA's with another.
A couple of Medallion signature guarantees were needed.
Went to the bank local branch yesterday morning and they said they had to send the paperwork to the department that does that.
Also said up to 3 business days to send to me.
In the afternoon, I got an email that the signatures were done and the paperwork would be sent to me.
A UPS envelope showed up this afternoon with everything complete.
Mailed the transfer paperwork about an hour later.
    Good job BoA.

I have a vague memory of those Medallion signature things but I can’t remember what I needed them for.

I’m impressed that you have multiple IRAs to combine.

    @oldfarmer50,
I'm combining an IRA that converted from a 401K in 1995 with another one that converted from a 401K to a IRA in 2020.
    I do have 2 other small IRA's.
You need the Medallion signature if the amount is over a certain value.

Thanks for asking. Right now there is a 54% chance we will fly to Florida early in November. It depends on what is going on there. We have our two vaccines, but I don't want to be in a high risk situation. My Florida tennis guys are very careful.....with pickleball it is indoors and I don't know who is vaccinated or how careful they are. Our neighbors in our community are careful, but we will watch and see what happens during the next month.

I thought about that when I was behind him.........I wonder how many accidents he has had and whether he thinks about what his rates will be if he is in an accident. Plus the hassle of dealing with insurance companies, police reports car rental companies, having a car that has been in an accident.....just not worth it to save 5 or 10 minutes.

I see that kind of driver almost daily. They are the ones who can't stand being behind someone going 8 over the speed limit on a 3 lane interstate. They tailgate to try to bully someone into moving over. Then they pass on the right followed by cutting in ahead of the car they just passed to show their ownership of that left lane.

They usually end up at the same exit ramp waiting for the light when I get there 20 seconds behind them.

If that someone is in the left lane while not being stuck behind someone, and not passing someone, that someone is as much a problem as the tailgater (gator?) ;)

Owner is having a couple specialists look at it. He's pleading ignorance, which very likely is true, but it's still a mess I am not going to pay for, and given the price of the house, nobody else will want to either. The agreed-upon price is for a 95% turn-key place. He's making a windfall by dividing the lot (the house was on a large double lot, I am fine with it being split as I don't want a back 40 to tend to, and zoning in the neighborhood will prevent anything wacky), so he might lose 10% of his speculative gain to remedy the issue. It's something that will likely cause issues with future inspections and appraisals, so he might as well do it when he has a cooperative buyer. It's that or sell at a massive discount.

The water issue is a few spots on the wood floors, one area in particular. The inspector had a moisture meter, and it detected dampness. Unlike most in this area, it is a house on a concrete slab, so I expect the floor might have to be pulled up. On a positive note, the house passed its sewer line inspection (local problem area) today with flying colors.

For the most part, I'm not tied to the left lane.
Unless there are a bunch of cars that will go by and I will have to significantly slow down as they pass, I'll just pull over and let them by.

If there are slower cars in the right 2 or 3 lanes and I'm going 8-10 over the limit in the left lane and if I'd have to slow down after moving over one lane because of the LLD's wanting their own open lane by birthright, I don't move over. If I have a relatively clear adjacent lane into which I can move, I am not in the left most lane of I75 or I70 to begin with. I'll more readily move over if someone is NOT within 8 feet of my rear bumper trying to bully me out of "their" lane. I'll move over if we're approaching a spot where the OSP sometimes is sitting with laser operating to catch speeders: I'll let somebody be bear bait.

The OSP and locals are patrolling more, probably because of my calls along with others about speeding drivers and truckers driving recklessly, but that's another topic.

There seems to be an attitude of a few that the left most lane should be left open for only the ultra speeders so they don't have to use others lanes. In this area seldom are there wide open spaces on the interstate highways. And if an LLD thinks there's enough room for me to move over one lane with my having to slow down and get trapped unable to pull back over into my lane and speed of choice, I think there's enough room in the lane over there for the LLD to zip over and kick it and speed around everyone else then move back over into their desired lane.

Please don't try to portray my being in the leftmost lane as left lane cruising.

I agree completely....if I am behind someone in the left lane, but I am going with the flow there is no reason to try and pass me.
In my case my cut off was on the left side, if I don't drive in the left lane for at least 3 miles I will have a hard time getting into it at the last minute.
The closer the tailgater drives on my bumper....the more room I have to leave in front of me.

Yeah, if you are actively passing to the point where you'd have to slow down if you moved right (and not playing the "elephant races" game of passing at .01 mph faster than the car on the right :) ), you aren't doing anything wrong.

lol....I miss the 2014 C250. I see a lot of them around, and I still like that design. I do miss not having a backup camera but I won't complain too much....I like the simplicity but power of the C250. Hope it still runs. At least I would probably go down in Nov or Dec and get an oil change, a few recalls like Takata air bags done, and put in some new gas.
