Back from my trip to Ohio. Left at 5am Thursday. Rain and wind from Ida had stopped by then. At 10am a charter jet crashed just after takeoff a half a mile from my house. It crashed into a local business and 2 employees were injured. 4 people on board the plane, unfortunately none survived. One of my kids went to school with one of the victims, sadly, an expectant mom. Husband and wife were on the plane without their, now parentless, 1 year old. Very sad.
From initial reports the jet tried to take of from a barely long enough runway with the brakes still on.

One odd thing...I never get comments about the E400, but I had 3 or 4 people comment that the Passat was a really nice looking car.
I was watching Leno review movie director John Frankenheimer's 1965 Rolls-Royce Sliver Cloud and he made a comment about how that is the type of car that people tend to be a bit intimidated by when they see it - assuming it is someone who is very wealthy or famous inside. Could the same be happneing with your E-Class?
Has anyone been in contact with Mr_Shiftright? I hope he is enjoying his retirement.
Didn’t he pass away? Or am I thinking of someone else?
He just posted on FB the other day.
OK, I’m officially going senile. But didn’t an Edmunds moderator pass on recently? I can’t be that far out of it.
Not that I’m aware of - both @kyfdx and I are both alive and kicking, and we’re the only two active moderators here.
It must have been in a dream oldfarmer had.....but, why would he have a dream like that? Maybe he wants to retire from the car delivery business and now he wants to apply for a moderators job.

Well then, I happily stand corrected. I can’t imagine who I was thinking of.
There was mention either here or on another topic about mods in ye olden days and someone mentioned "Pat" as one who was a sort of tough case to deal with. I believe it was stated that she passed away some time ago.
Although I just about never watch tennis, I did the watch match between young Fernandez and the German player. The difference in the speed and placement of the returns was obvious even to someone like me. Prior to that, I think she upset the number one tournament seed. At this point, I'm guessing she has gone from a field filler to favorite to win. Good for her. Her parents are not from Canada and she trains in Florida, so the Canadian reference is somewhat tenuous.

By comparison that second guy must have been driving with the emergency brake actuated.

Negative points because they didn't mention what he was driving!
And remember, the Solomon curve only applies when there's other traffic to have a speed differential with; no other traffic equals no speed differentials.

So you're saying if there are no other cars nearby, you can't be speeding? Is that the extension of the logic?

Obviously there were police around patrolling and certainly there was a speed differential when the pursuit began.

That’s another little known fact you should try in traffic court.

It's the old "if no one sees you do it, did you do it?" thing.
I'm not advocating for or against, but 1 patrol car "hidden" behind an overpass does not "traffic" make in my book.
My money is on that this guy didn't blow the doors off the police car as they passed them, but the odds are not 100% in my favor. My presumption is that the most likely scenario is the officer was lying in wait in some trusty "hidden" spot and the speed differential was offender's speed less 0 MPH at first. Of course, by my definition of speed differential, you can't count it as only objects in "lanes of traffic" should be counted. I don't count the Tree in the Redwood Forest of CA anymore for a highway in the UK than I would an Officer's Patrol car on an on-ramp not yet on the freeway. At the end it was the Police officer creating speed differential in the opposite direction as they had to go faster to catch up.

Bwia is right, *she was born in Montreal. Lots of players leave one country and become citizens in another country. *You may not watch tennis much but you are very observant. she has the phenomenal skill of being able to strategize and think ahead. She pulls her opponent over and then places the ball where they can't get to it. *She is refreshing....she is pleasant, smart, mature beyond her 18 or 19 years old...he 19th birthday was a day or 2 ago. *A lot of players train in Florida...that is a great training grounds. Her mother is a Canadian citizen from the Philippines. Often new players rise and flame out.....she seems to be the real deal, but it will be tough from here on....semi-finals are next.
I go in for my flu shot and my Pfizer booster vaccine shot this morning. My doctor gave me a script for the Pfizer booster (3rd shot) in case they question if I am eligible.
Taking both vaccines at the same time is acceptable according to the CDC but I am preparing myself for some side affects in case they occur.

Most tennis player live in a place like Florida because they want to play in the heat, they can play all year round, they have facilities that are ideal for learning and practice etc. Just because she spends a big part of her time in Florida doesn't make her a U.S. citizen! The pandemic has nothing to do with it....the numbers in Montreal are far lower than Florida.

It's an electric vehicle after all. And perhaps the China market has a big influence on design and aesthetics. For some reason most BEVs use the Prius as their guiding principle: make their vehicles different, ugly, and price it high to exude a futuristic aura of minimalism and environmentalism.
