Finally saw a 4xx BMW on the road over the weekend. I like BMWs. But, I just can’t wrap my mind around the stying of those. They’re 10x worse than anything Bangle ever designed. I can’t see that style lasting much longer. And this is coming from a guy who liked the last Acura TL look.

Even as far south as where I am near Fort Mill, SC just outside of the Charlotte city limits, AWD, 4WD is all the rage. I have never felt the need to have AWD though the Q5 has the Quattro system which is the only way the Q5 is configured. The Q5 is the first vehicle we’ve owned that wasn’t 2WD.

This is also an interesting read.

If it is like his other work on Lincoln it should be in the fiction section. He does a lot of strawman arguments, half truths, misrepresentation of facts and outright lies in his attacks on Lincoln. It seems as he is a southern apologetic and seems to promote the long discredited Lost Cause narrative.

    Strawman, half-truths, misrepresentation, and lies?

Sounds like an excellent resume to get a job at the IIHS. They should hire him; he'll fit right in.

Speaking of computer driver …. What the heck is up with car companies advertising hands free driving? Anyone see the Ford commercial where a Mach-e driver sets lane keep and takes his hands off the wheel? The car won’t let you do that. After about 10 secs, it starts beeping at you. Another 5 secs and it beeps louder and faster. I haven’t tried yet to push it past that to see what happens.
And there is another that irritates me, but I’m not even sure what car it is for. The driver sets it and starts clapping the beat to a song. WTH?

The clapping with hands off the steering wheel is GMC or Chevy. IIRC. Really odd that they advertise that. I could never trust auto drive.

Got some bad news from my doctors this morning. I have a 2 cm wound opening in my back at the top of the surgical incision. It was infected so I completed a 10 day high dose of amoxicillin on Friday. But the wound is not healing and needs Debridement to remove dead tissues preventing healing. It may require me to go back into the hospital as this is usually done in the OR.

I’ll know more tomorrow morning when I see the neurosurgeon. I just can’t get a break. In addition my pain in my back is a bit worse than it was prior to surgery. My guess is he will want to do a fusion of L3, L4 and L5 vertebrae. I’m pretty depressed over this. 😩

My auto-steering system requires that my hand “not” be off the steering wheel for more than 30 seconds. If the car’s computer system senses that I have not held the steering wheel for more than 30 seconds, an audio chime sounds and disconnects autonomous steering and cruise control until my hand(s) is on the steering wheel again. It then resets autonomous steering and cruise control.

The Mercedes did the same thing but had a shorter interval (15 seconds IIRC).

My Volvo is the same way although closer to a minute I think. System works surprisingly well, holding the lane and steering around curves just like I would.

Another 5 secs and it beeps louder and faster. I haven’t tried yet to push it past that to see what happens.

And there is another that irritates me, but I’m not even sure what car it is for. The driver sets it and starts clapping the beat to a song. WTH?

They had that feature on the old Fusion as well but you’re right, while you could theoretically cruise down the highway and the car would keep it’s lane indefinitely, after a few seconds it would scream at you to put your hands back on the wheel.

It was fun though to see the car handle curves by itself.
