I can’t tell you the last time I ate at Wendy’s. So, for a change of pace I tried just last week, we went in, got in line behind two folks and their system goes down by the time we stepped up. I’ll have to try again because I remember their burgers are pretty good and even Mrs. j likes them too for a change but maybe I’ll try the spicy chicken sandwich you mentioned. I like spicy stuff but I know Mrs. j will go with the burger.

Today is Mrs. j’s birthday but I better not suggest that for tonight or I’ll never get a chance to go back. :'(

Whenever I do go to Wendy's it's usually with the intent of getting a double cheeseburger, no onions. I almost always order the spicy chicken sandwich when it's time to order.

We actually went to Wendy’s last night (my wife went to get nails down for the wedding Saturday and got home late and we still had to run out to target so decided to grab something quick)

I decided to go in so didn’t have to eat in the car on my lap. Mistake. Apparently they don’t want people in there, just the drive through. They had replaced the cashier spots with giant DIY kiosk screens (and charge card only). So we decided to try it. As expected it was a lousy interface and confusing so instead of 30 seconds telling a person what we want it was 5 minutes or wandering around screens and fixing stuff.

I assume if I put my old man yelling at clouds voice on someone would come over and do it for us. But they certainly were not going to offer it on their own!

This is not progress. At least have 1 real person. Not everyone wants to DIY every purchase.

I try to not order on apps because they all want me to save a credit card which I don’t like. A very famous New Haven Pizzeria (Sally’s Apizza) opened up here I guess about a year ago. Sometimes it takes them a few calls to pick up. I order off their app and it gives me an exact time the food will be ready for pickup. Rewards accumulate at a decent clip. It seems like almost every other time I go, I get a free small pie or appetizer.

Feeling a little blue: Went to local Walmart today as Fox station and Salvation Army were sponsoring a "Stuff the Bus" event, collecting school supplies for kids. I donated a couple of backpacks (including a Patriots themed one; the local weatherman hosting seemed surprised I wanted to donate it!), pencils and calculators.
As I was driving out, there was an elderly gentleman standing in the (shaded) grass across the street from Wallyworld in a flannel shirt with a cardboard sign, "Out of work and homeless. Please help..." Something about that got to me, there but for the grace...
Took the better 7/8ths to Chick fil A for lunch, purchased a gift card and went back to give to the gentleman. Alas he was gone, drove around the plaza looking for him. No luck, can't shake the feeling that I've somehow failed the day.
I'll save the gift card for a next encounter.

You'll soon get another chance. My wife is always on the lookout for similar opportunities. One day she noticed a Hispanic family working on the landscaping in the traffic islands not far from our house. She took them a several bottled waters and assorted snacks.

A Good Dennis O'Sullivan Column Today:
    QUESTION

You are my last hope! We spoke to our lawyer the other day about my son’s car being stolen and recovered damaged and I am not happy with his advice. The insurance company is telling my son that there is not any damage to the ignition cylinder so they do not believe that it was stolen. In other words, they are telling my son that he is a liar and they are refusing to pay for the damage. My lawyer is telling me that the insurance company has issues with the story that my son told the adjuster and he is suggesting that my son withdraws the claim. My son is not a liar and I believe him when he tells me that his car was stolen. I hear all the time that cars can be stolen without the use of the key and I believe that is what happened with my son’s car. I understand that your company used to do investigation work like this and I was hoping that you could shed some light on this for me.

    Concerned mother from Kitchener

    ANSWER

Maybe your lawyer, who is actually your son-in-law, has not been fully honest with you because he knows more than what he is telling you and he does not want to upset you. There is nothing greater than the love and trust that a mother has for her son and the son should consider very carefully before fabricating a story and putting his mother’s love and trust to the test. That is why, you as a mother are most likely not aware of the full reason why the insurance company is denying your son’s claim so let me enlighten you.

    (1) Your son claims that he went to a movie with a new friend but cannot remember her name or the name of the movie. (Possibly but highly unlikely)

    (2) Your son’s cell phone pinged at the accident scene just half an hour before he reported it stolen to the police. He had called someone to come and pick him up and the insurance company has that number.

    (3) Your son’s car went into a ditch in the direction of going home.

    (4) The car contained four empty beer bottles and reeked with alcohol when recovered.

    (5) The most damaging bit of evidence was that a wallet, not your son’s, was found in the car and that person is not telling the same story that your son told the police.

I do not have any legal background to advise your son to withdraw the claim but your lawyer is in a legal position to do so. I found this out and you can be sure that your son-in-law lawyer also knows these facts. That is why he is suggesting that the claim be pulled before criminal charges are laid against your son in order to save him and you any further embarrassment. I hope that, after reading this, your son will sit down and apologize to you for putting you through stress and then take the advice of your son-in-law lawyer.

PS: The son has taken the advice of the lawyer and hopefully, it will end there.

Beautiful day today in the northeast. I was out in the convertible today and at the fast food drive thru this 20 something guy said he admired my car. I told him it was older than he was and he laughed.

If someone likes your Jeep they may put a duck on the hood. Some people put them up on the dash, some don't.

I'm starting to see other cars with ducks sitting on the dash. They, evidently, don't get what it's all about.

I saw in a news article that the lady who started it all passed away recently.

Where we had the rehearsal dinner and welcome party for our son’s wedding today. And the maverick going truck duty picking it all up from the rental place. One if 3 loads on the day since I also picked up tables and folding chairs and all the cases of drinks. Baby truck holds quite a bit if stuff!

And a side benefit in about 150 miles of running around averaged close to 45 MPG

We had a pretty over the top wedding. Very nice venue, top shelf liquor and enough food to feed a small country.

It cost a mountain of cash and went in a flash.

Having said that … nearly 12 years later people still talk about what an amazing time it was and we will always have the memories.

I think there is still something to be had for a big formal affair but OTOH I get the appeal of destination weddings with just a few people… certainly easier to plan!

It seems that it costs less to drive an ICE vehicle over 5 years than it does an EV.
    https://www.partstrader.com/electric-vehicles-vs-internal-combustion-the-real-cost-comparison/
The biggest hit is for depreciation. Other things can cost more, such as insurance, and tires. Tires are about 50% more and wear out 20% sooner according to one article I saw.
Goodyear is building a new tire plant in Ontario Canada for EV tires. At first I thought, why do you need an extra plant for tires....people who buy EVs had gassers before. When I looked into it EVs need stronger tires because they weigh a lot more, and the tires will wear out sooner too.

and the article said it wasn't a total picture as a lot of the fires in ICE cars happened when they got older, but the EVs were all newer models. And, as you said, battery fires are a lot harder to put out.
