Oh, that is an 8' bed; it is just dwarfed by the size of the cab! I agree, though. Why not just make a 12' or 16' bed for the heck of it?!

    QUESTION

My girlfriend has done the unthinkable and drove the van home with the passenger’s wiper missing. This foolish act, as you know, would scratch the windshield like it has done. My girlfriend has, in the past, done some other things but this one takes the cake. I contacted my insurance and they told me that that type of damage would not be covered under their window policy. She has agree to pay the deductible for me but can a scratch like this be removed without having to replace the windshield?

    ANSWER

I found out that your girlfriend drove close to eighty kilometers with the wiper blade missing. In that case, the scratch could not be removed and the windshield has to be replaced. I also found out that you had replaced the wiper blades the day before and if you had put the passenger’s side blade on correctly, the wiper blade would not have fallen off. If I was to arbitrate this situation, I would assess you at fifty percent at fault and your girlfriend at the other fifty percent, for the deductible.

P.S. Hopefully this will never happen again but if it does, I want you to show your girlfriend how to lift up the wiper arm until a new wiper can be installed. Another option would be to place a cloth or some other type of soft material on the end of the wiper arm which will stop any scratching of the windshield on a rainy drive home.

Drove up to Detroit today to see the Tigers/Mariners baseball game today.

One thing I don't understand about a lot of the newer ballparks is why the architects insist on separating sections of the upper levels from other parts of the facility. Maybe they want to drive everyone down to the bottom level to patronize the concessions and merchandising places there. It must make circulating through the place a pain.

Got to watch from a suite, so free food and bverages.
It's a pretty nice park. Was there once before but it was a long time ago.
Going back Saturday for the Tigers/Yankees game. Just regular seats for that one.
Taking the grandkids so we will probably spend most of the game in the amusements area.

I understand that all the major leagues only sell tickets electronically now, no cash, no printed tickets. Is that true?

I don’t see much future for that relationship if this guy is airing his frustration with his girlfriend into the public arena. Can you imagine what she thought when the advocate called her? Unless this was some one of a kind classic with an irreplaceable numbers matching windshield, just man up and fix it yourself. I’d be more angry with the insurance company. What difference does it make if the windshield was damaged by the girlfriend or say a rock?

I know the anger a guy can feel when a woman messes up his ride. Once my wife backed up over a board and kicked it into the wheel well, popping the bumper cover and bending the wheel spindle. I never yelled, I just paid the few hundred to fix it. She was forever grateful that I didn’t shame her for the error.

The only unforgivable thing she did was step in gum and drag it into my brand new Eclipse during the first road trip together. Some things a man can’t forgive.😤🤯🤬

I can understand that the bed on the blue truck is too short. I drove a Gator when son was doing his Boy Scout project at a local Aububon Park. Neat. But the big black truck, for me, the bed is long enough.

The guy supposedly fixed the wiper, he did a lousy job, she should have known better than to drive a long distance with the wiper blade missing.......but he makes it all her fault, and this is only one of many stupid things she has done. Oh, that's funny!

A couple of years ago, when we were driving south on our annual Ohio run, we were just leaving Fort Nelson, BC, when my wife (who was driving her Crosstrek while I was driving the Q7) flags me down to stop. When we get out, she informs me that she was trying to clear her windshield of bugs using the sprayer when the driver side wiper "just flew off." Bewildered, I inspected the situation and confirmed that the whole blade was nowhere to be found. I suggested she go back to look for it (just a mile distant) in the off chance it wasn't obliterated on the road already, since we had a long drive ahead to the nearest town that might have a replacement.

She comes back a few minutes later with a tattered blade (just the rubber part, none of the armature). I said, "eh, that's good enough." I moved the passenger blade, which is comically small (16" versus the 26" blade on the driver side), to the driver arm, then tied the ragged rubber bit she found on the road around the arm on the passenger side to keep it from scratching. From about an hour after this event until mid-morning the next day (about seven hours of driving, IIRC), we encountered steady rainfall. As soon as we were able to get a new blade at the auto parts store in Fort St. John, the rain stopped and it was relatively clear skies all the way back into the US!

How much should spark plugs cost? Not installation, just the part itself. No fancy or exotic stuff, just a plug for an average car.

They vary greatly. Standard copper plugs are $2-$3 ea. Fancy platinum ones are in the high teens.

Yikes, no wonder dealers charge what they do for a plug change. I can’t remember the last time I bought plugs. I think it was for my ‘95 Bonneville around 2001. I can’t remember the cost for those but somehow I seem to remember back in the 70s and 80s plugs for my GM V8s (AC Delco 45) cost about 79 cents each but they didn’t last 100K miles either more like 15K miles IIRC.

Just looking on line I found prices from $12-$111 each. The last time I changed plugs was on my 1985 Ford and as I recall they were just a few bucks.

I just had the plugs changed on the Chrysler and they were $28 each which seemed high but they were laser platinum or something so I guess they weren’t that outrageous.

Like everything else on cars the prices give you sticker shock.

well, the plugs are more but they last 100K+ miles so it evens out, not having to replace them every 24-36K. No clue the last time I paid to have plugs done. Probably the 2006 Volvo I bought for my daughter in HS? Last one I did myself was on a Subaru. Probably our 1992 legacy. But only 3 because I could not access the 4th (ended up having mechanic do that one).

Doubtful I ever have them done again. At my age, buying new cars and driving so few miles, either will not have the car long enough to need them, or the plugs will outlast me!

My Prius had OEM plugs when I bought it with 200k+ miles on it. The Volt was also due for plugs, and I would have replaced them had I kept it.

The only other car I've had long enough to replace plugs was my 1999 Jetta VR6. The maintenance schedule called for them every 40k, and I had them done twice during my ownership.

the H6 is longitudinal. Might be hard to get to the back 2 plugs but nothing like a transverse V6!

@qbrozen - my mother also has a hiatal hernia, and I mentioned your ordeal to her when I saw her today. She's fortunate she's been able to treat it without surgery, but it has severely restricted her diet.

Sorry to hear it. If she can manage with diet, she should probably just leave well enough alone, assuming she is rather advanced in years. I am very much looking forward to eating real food again.

got the last of my pending construction projects done. 2 more blinds up so now both spare bedrooms that have beds now have window coverings, a good thing since both will be used for company next weekend!

I can put up Levolors in my sleep at this point but am really tired of doing it. But one more step toward having the house all put together. Week after next all the rest of the landscaping will get done. That is going to be interesting (a lot of dirt to be moved to grade the whole lot out). At least the patio is in so they can grade to that.

An EV version? What range will it have? 50 miles?

I go away for a long vacation with she who must be obeyed to spend time with the grand kids and there are hundreds of post. Anyway I am back and I seriously think that no one missed me. All I can really say is that a 2+ hours of flying behind a 1 year old who wouldn't stop crying is I know why some animals eat their young.

Not a car story but we did get a new shower installed this weekend. Replacing a 20+ year old basic shower that the builder put in.

That looks nice. Are you really that old that you have to sit down when taking a shower? :'(

I just put together a teak bench for our shower room. That was for the wife to use for shaving her legs or some such. I can still stand up. Most days.

Sorry to hear about another set-back, @abacomike. Just keep a positive attitude, although it is difficult, and get better soon!
