Mike, you live in a warm climate area. I'm tired of mooching off of my Delray Beach SIL. Don't get me wrong she likes having our company but I'd like to keep my options open by trying convince 'stever' that I'm a guest that won't come with too much baggage. There is nothing devious about that. Do you get my drift?

JM, you and your wife are welcome in my home at any time! I have a master bedroom suite that remains vacant. Just say the word - I live 14 miles south of Deray Beach. You can visit family and stay with me for as long as you want!
I am tempted to buy that Genesis myself.........$38K!
That's a pretty good deal..$13k off. About 25%. Wonder how much more is still left on that deal. What if you offered to buy at $15k off? They sound pretty motivated.
What does that kind of discount do to the value of other 2015s? I'd hate to be in a position where I HAD to trade in a one year old Genny.
Edmunds lists the G90 and G80 but with no info. So it would seem the rebadging of the Genesis is going to happen pretty soon. Maybe that's why they stopped producing the V8 model so early in the year.
IIRC the G90 is the new name for the Equus. My guess is that Hyundai is setting things up to spin off a new Luxury car make.

Mike,
Thanks. That is a very generous offer.
Spirit Airlines fares are pretty cheap to Ft. Lauderdale from Latrobe PA so don't be surprised if I show up one afternoon while you're at the MB car wash. Just leave a key under the matt.

Well, I just think winning the World Series is key to being proclaimed the best team. That's why I picked the '89 A's over the '88 A's that won 104 Games. Yes, injuries could (and usually are) a key factor in post-season losses for great regular season teams. Losing a starting player is HUGE, even for a deep team. To prove your case you'll have to show there were some key injuries, otherwise it falls under the below reason:
There's also the Bonds factor, good in the regular season, worthless in the Post-Season (no clutch). Having no clutch disqualifies separates the boys from the men. The true greatness from the mediocrity.
I think it has been said the Angels could have 82 wins by the All-Star break, and still not make the playoffs, for example.
I wouldn't think that winning any one series World Series or not determines which team is better since there is little chance of "evening out". It's simple statistics, any team will have streaks where they play significantly above or below their natural ability. Bad teams can have big winning streaks and good teams can have big losing streaks. Hence to truly judge a team in a season you really have to look at the entire season and not just one portion of the season.
Look at it this way, Baltimore has a 5 - 0 record right now, do you really think that they will go 162 - 0 this season?
As for the Angels winning 82 games by the All Star Break, while mathematically possible it won't happen because no team can play .925 ball for long. But let's say they do have 82 wins by All Star Break. First that gives them a winning season no matter what. Secondly the team with the worse season in MLB history was the 1899 that won only 20 games giving them a .130 record. Apply that to the post All Star break season and that would give the Angels 9 wins and a 91 win season which would give them at least a 50% chance of getting into the playoffs. So barring the team plane flying into a mountain any team that has 82 wins at the All Star break will be going into the play offs.

No surprises - just pick a week or long weekend and I'll pick you up at FLL!
Guess I need to get our taxes in the mail before guests arrive Tuesday. _________________________________________________________________________________
'stever',
I'm not going to thank you for reminding me of that.
I usually wait to do my taxes till pretty much the deadline, even when I got refunds I did that. Mrs. j has been asking for a month, "when are you going to do your taxes ? You have all the time in the world to do it now that you are retired".
Since I've had to pay a few grand the last few years, I file even later and I've used the excuse that I'm waiting for some last minute advice on how to cheat without getting caught. I haven't heard of anything new so I guess I'll start doing my taxes tomorrow.
It sure is nice holding the governments money the last few years after all the years they held mine. I'm just wondering when they are going to pull the string on me and want me to pay as I go. I ain't gonna like that but I know it's coming.

Aba - I see your MB as kind of today's old days Chrysler 300, or the banker's car. Big car comfort, sport car drivetrain.
As for stereo speakers, I think you can get some decent speakers, but they are geared to digital music. In fact, cheaper speakers are probably much better today than in the old days. However, if you want the warmth and sound fidelity of the old analog days, then you can't beat good quality stereo speakers from those days.
more daughter was by Orlando for a school function the since Thursday (went back to NC this morning). was complaining that it was 42 when they landed, but in the 60s back in Florida, and she wanted to go back!
I think she has become a true Southern Belle at this point.
Here in the Chicago area so far this April it snowed more days than not. Today it was mid to upper 30's.

My CLS is not a big car - it is very tight in the back but quite comfortable up front. As for digital stereo 5.1, it has 15 speakers - 2 woofers - and 660 watts of power - Harman Kardin. Sound system is awesome. It is nothing like a Chrysler 300 - it is more like an S Coupe with 4 doors.
Oh that's right. I thought it was an E Class for some reason (and obviously missed the car notation at the bottom of your posts - highly embarrassing).
Flicking channels I landed on an auto show just as the 2017 Genesis G90 was revealed. They said Hyundai doesn't want you to call it the Hyundai G90 because they want Genesis to be the brand name for all upscale cars they make.
Interesting how they have been able to change the public's perception of their cars from cheap junks to high quality luxury.
Oh just found out I'm watching the Detroit Auto Show.
Ford had a new introduction too. Forget the name but I was about $395,000 short of being able to afford it.
That's the GT40.

The thing is, our tastes change over time, don't write off larger luxury cars altogether, the day may come when you prefer comfort and convenience over speed and agility. 20 years ago I wouldn't have thought I would be completely happy driving an E Class.
I'm 59 years old, and since the age of 16 people have been telling me I'll get tire of small, fast, and sporty cars- and that I'd soon come to appreciate a huge Barcalounger on wheels. While it's true that 95% of my hot rodder friends eventually descended into Practical Automotive Appliance Hell, I still love small nimble cars with "too much" horsepower- diito for my motorcycles. Perhaps my tastes will change over the next two decades, but I doubt it.
10 years ago I had my first BMW, an X3. I loved it and thought I would always buy BMW suvs, and certainly nothing larger than a 3 Series. Life changes, I like a car with a trunk so stuff is hidden away and I don't hear liquids sloshing around or groceries rolling around, I like the dynamics of a car with a lower center of gravity, I like the comfort and luxury of a Mercedes over the lower seats and austerity of a BMW. I like the extra room in the E400 and the smoothness of the ride.....I didn't think that would happen 10 years ago. Interesting....10 years ago I was 59!
You may change and you may not, but even 10 years is a fairly long time, our life and wants can change a lot.
Unless I was a multi-millionaire who could afford to hire two valets to follow me in the Corvette so when I parked they would be there to pull me to my feet, there is no way I will be able to complete my bucket list. But I still love high powered muscle - just not in the cards for me!
We had a late lunch in a joint downtown; not known for their food but a duo we like was playing. They were terrific, and we just tuned out the occasional loud bike, the waiters, the people passing by the patio...
MP3s and internet radio are like that to me - the immediacy and/or emotional response or whatever trumps any audiophile stuff I may be missing (not that I'd know I was missing anything).
Back to Homelink, I straightened out my antenna hanging down from the opener and the Homeline range doubled to ~50'.
We need to see who;s Homelink works the furthest....The Homelinks Olympics!
Driver, it's a shame Ford so screwed up the Five Hundred and subsequent Taurus. I think it is not uncommon for one spouse to like sitting high in an SUV, while the other prefers attributes of a sedan. Those higher seated Ford's could have filled that void some but they cramped the front drivers position, put in a mediocre performing engine (initially) and then really squished it up with the latest iteration.

Berri, I saw a Ford taurus the other day and I really wonder who that car appeals to. It is big and bulky looking without any real great styling. Does someone actually say "That car really turns me on"? If you look at the interior it is pretty dark with a very high beltline....so very little outward visibility. I would prefer an Edge or a Lincoln MKC (the suv one).
My wife likes her GLK but she would have gone for a C Class or a car, if it had good outward vision. I would say we both prefer cars over SUVs, if they feel right.

I don't think a larger car has to be soulless! An Audi R6 has plenty of soul. Mikes CLS400 is probably a great road car. My E400 has plenty of soul, just a quieter, more comfortable, more refined kind of soul........what I appreciate and like has changed with time. A 2015 Tesla Model S P85D 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds must have a lot of soul, and comfort to boot.

Actually, I like it. I think it is handsome enough, and don't forget it is a full-size vehicle, so it has less direct competition than the Fusion, which is their midsizer. So it appeals to those who want something larger than a Camcord6 and can't afford a 7/S/A8. The only competition I can think of is the Charger/300.

Avalon, Azera, Cadenza, Impala, Lacrosse would all also be competitors.
The problem with the Taurus is that despite being a pretty large car the interior feels small. The center console is HUGE and the driver's foot well is tiny. I considered one before getting the 2012 Lacrosse. It's a really nice driving car and is available with tons of tech, but not as large inside as I wanted.

Style is a matter of taste but I like most of those choices over the boxy Taurus. And, as tjc says, the inside is small and dark, and the center consol is huge for couples who need their own space........made me think of a fortress.

That was what I found to be a detractor in the Taurus a couple of years ago. That center console takes up so much space - elbow, hip and knee - very confining front space. The exterior is quite good looking, though.
I was at my Mercedes-Benz dealer for a car wash this morning. The manager gave me a copy of the order sheet for the 2017 E Class so I could see what was available as they are going into production in a matter of weeks. You can only order an E300 with a 4 cylinder engine - no 6 cylinder engines are available until later this year, like November or December. The 6 cylinder twin turbo will be badged as an E450 with 350+ hp and big torque. 240 horsepower in a car that weighs over 4000 pounds is, in my opinion, insufficient. With the 6 cylinder engine and 350 horsepower, that's my kind of car.
These new E's are supposed to be arriving in showrooms in June/July.

Impala is a good call. The others are more expensive, so it depends on your priorities. Avalon, Azera, and Cadenza all start about $6k more (nearly 25% more). The Lacrosse comes closest at about $4k more.

I only said that the F10 was a soulless marshmallow; I do like a-very-few larger cars- mainly Alpinas and SRT8s. Still, all things being equal, I'll take the smaller and lighter car EVERY time. At most my wife and I only need a 2+2, so why would I want to wag around a car that is over a foot longer and 750 pounds heavier than my 2er? I hope that when I shuffle off this mortal coil I will follow in the footsteps of an elderly friend who was one of the patriarchs of BMW CCA. When he passed in his 80s his garage contained an E36 M3 and a JCW MCS.

And that's why they have different cars for different folks.
sda - I always liked Advent speakers because they were pretty neutral letting you actually have control over the bass/treble mix on your stereo. Too many speakers have too much bass favor.
The Advents have been a keeper. Bought them when I was in college, actually put them on lay away and paid for them over 90 days. I was a college kid with limited $$. I had the foam suspension on the woofers replaced about 10 years ago, and they still sound nice. That set up in the picture is now a secondary system, the primary is in our family room.
One of the things I used to do, as a money making hobby, was rebuild older speakers. I have rebuilt many pairs of the Original Advents. Replace the surround of the woofers, replace the capacitors in the crossover, deaden the side walls, ...
When I cleaned out the big storage shed about 2 years ago, I found a pair of Original Advents in very nice condition, a pair of AR3a's (which needed work). I always preferred the Advents myself, but the AR3a's always brought more money. And oh yeah, a pair of ElectroVoice Interface 3 Series 2. I kept those, and sold the Advents and the AR3a's.
My Mercedes guy came to the house at exactly 9 a.m. He programmed the Homelink in about 4 minutes using a method completely different from anything described. First cleared it all so then my Florida code is lost, and then he used a combination of the garage door opener and the overhead unit.
He also noticed I am ready for my second service call, coming up to 24k miles soon (took deliver Nov 2014). He said we should set up an appointment soon, and he can get me a loaner car before the busy Spring time starts...when it will be harder to do - service takes about 4 hours.
We talked about trading for a 2017 which he said is expected to be ready around the summer. I told my wife and she thought I was crazy
A friend had the ARs, always enjoyed listening to them. I have the Advent 1s in the walnut cabinet. They aren't as good as the original Advents yet they have given me years of listening pleasure. Not sure what I will do if the surrounds will need replacing. The shop that did it for me has closed.

I have a set of Magnepans all wrapped tight in their boxes. I haven't used them in 5 years.....just not enough room for them.
I need a dedicated music room to set them up along with a couple of monoblocks and my Linn turntable (all of which is packed away).
My home theater installation now occupies the space I used to use for music.
Back in November, I found a sizable gash in the sidewall of on of the tires on my wife's Pilot. Their time was almost up anyway, so I decided to order a new set from Costco who gave me the best price. Costco's price included road hazard insurance which came in handy when I hit a curb making a right turn and shredded the new front right tire about a month afterwards. Costco had to special order a new tire for me. The other day, my wife hit a curb and put a 4" gash into her sidewall. The tire didn't break, but in addition to the gash, there is also a big bulge. It's covered once again under Costco's road Hazzard plan. Here's the problem. They don't stock the tire. In order for me to get them to cover it, they have to see the tire on the truck.
The problem is that I live about 20 miles from Costco. So I have to drive 20 miles there & 20 miles back, hoping the tire doesn't blow. Then when they tell me the tire is in, I've got to drive another 30 miles to work, then 10 miles to Costco, and hope the tire doesn't blow.

That is annoying. Not that I tend to gave issues, but I do usually get tires close by. I also don't have Costco. That and I want to buy where they also do alignments.

I was talking to my best friend who said that I should get the new tire locally and just pay for it.
If if you would have bought the tires locally, you wouldn't have bought the road Hazzard coverage that Costco provides for free. So you'd have to buy a new tire now anyway.

This does not compute. Not at all. What if you blow up the tire completely on a "road hazard"? Are you supposed to drive the car "on the rim" all the way to the nearest Costco? Or pay for a wrecker instead of just putting on the spare?
No, I'm not buying this one, not at all. Call back, ask to talk to the manager.
Well, I finished my federal taxes. Owed just a scoch over 3 grand. I'm glad I didn't have to ask Mrs. j to write that check. E-filing preventing me from getting an ear whooping for now but I know I'll be hearing about this before the day is over.
I called Grandson #4 to be sure he is still alright. In his hockey game on Saturday afternoon he got RUN OVER and I mean he got RUN OVER. He is pretty small for his age, in fact, he is the smallest kid on the ice but he's still a good player. Not as good as his 2 year older brother or his 1 year older cousin but he has always made the team. Usually the second team out of 5 for his age group. He will be 10 in August.
The way this happened was a teammate, that of course is a full head taller than him, was trying to get out of the way of an opponent and he took off to his right. Sure enough my grandson just happened to be in his teammates path and WHAM, down he goes. His head didn't hit the ice that hard but while he was trying to get up the coach is running onto the ice screaming, "STAY DOWN, STAY DOWN". That was in contradiction to his Father (Son #1), who was working the score board, saying, "get up you're not hurt, you can sit down when you get back to the bench". The coach won that decision.
After the game Son #1 said we'd have to wait before we left because the league mandates that he has to be seen by the paramedic on duty before he can go home. The paramedic said he's pretty sure he's alright but he didn't think one of his eyes responded to one of the finger tests according to the book, so he'll have to be checked again before the next game.
After the game when he came out of the locker room I asked him how he felt because he sure didn't act like anything was wrong. He was a little irritated with that question because when they lined up after the game to shake hands, all of the opponent players kept asking him how he was doing and he was tired of saying, "fine, fine, fine ...". So, I phrased it another way. I asked him if he saw stars. He said, "what's that" ? I told him that's when you see little flashes of light". He looks at me in disbelief and says, "I'm lying flat on my back because the coach doesn't want me to get up, so I'm looking straight up at all those big bright lights on the ceiling of this place, so how am I supposed to see little lights" ? After that response, doctor jmonroe is pretty sure he is fine.
2 good things happened today, I finished my federal taxes and Grandson #4 is FINE. OK, make that 1 1/2 things, I owed 3 grand to the feds.

As for your $3000 bill on your taxes - welcome to the club because I owed $2100. What was nice is that I didn't have to write a check - TurboTax set it up as a direct withdrawal from my checking account on April 4th. Next year, I will probably get a tax refund.
We get to write a check for 22,000 so don't complain! Capital Gains tax on a condo we sold!
I once had a couple that owned a business that owed right around $30K, man I sweated telling them what they owed but I ran the figures multiple times over and that's what it came out to be.
It turns out that they were happy as clams, they thought that they would owe over $40K and only had $35K to cover what they owed. To them I got them a $5K refund.

That is annoying. Not that I tend to gave issues, but I do usually get tires close by. I also don't have Costco. That and I want to buy where they also do alignments.

IIRC the G90 is the new name for the Equus. My guess is that Hyundai is setting things up to spin off a new Luxury car make.

JM, you and your wife are welcome in my home at any time! I have a master bedroom suite that remains vacant. Just say the word - I live 14 miles south of Deray Beach. You can visit family and stay with me for as long as you want!

Mike,
Thanks. That is a very generous offer.
Spirit Airlines fares are pretty cheap to Ft. Lauderdale from Latrobe PA so don't be surprised if I show up one afternoon while you're at the MB car wash. Just leave a key under the matt.

You have no objection, I hope, to renting a cool car and adding me as a driver?

'stever',
I'm not going to thank you for reminding me of that.

As for stereo speakers, I think you can get some decent speakers, but they are geared to digital music. In fact, cheaper speakers are probably much better today than in the old days. However, if you want the warmth and sound fidelity of the old analog days, then you can't beat good quality stereo speakers from those days.
They promised us global warming, so where is it?

I hope that when I shuffle off this mortal coil I will follow in the footsteps of an elderly friend who was one of the patriarchs of BMW CCA. When he passed in his 80s his garage contained an E36 M3 and a JCW MCS.

My home theater installation now occupies the space I used to use for music.

I agree with @henryn, seeing it "on the truck" to be covered doesn't make sense. Just seeing it in some form should be plenty.
