I was looking at the Edmunds review, and comparing prices on Truecar. In my zip code, the Ecoboost with automatic is $25,154 and the V6 auto is $24,059. So approximately $1,095 more for the Ecoboost, which does give you more than just a little more horsepower and torque

    V6 == 300 hp, 280 lb/ft
    Ecoboost == 310 hp, 320 lb/ft

I don’t think the 10 horsepower will matter, but the 40 lb/ft probably will be noticeable. And it probably comes on at a much lower RPM, making it VERY noticeable. And, in addition, you get wheels, power seats, and a little more.

Options include 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, LED foglights and a six-way power driver seat.
The EcoBoost gets those options as standard (albeit with its own wheel design) and adds a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a six-way power passenger seat, aluminum dashboard trim and active noise cancellation.
On EDIT: Oops, I was talking about the 2016 Mustang, and failed to make that clear. I hate it when others do that.

That's my usual fallback reccomendation for those who can't be drawn to the V8 dark side.

It might be the Edmunds review that said of the V6 that you have to "drive it like you stole it" to get the best performance. I think the low end torque on the 4cyl would make it more fun.

That 2016 that Explorer linked does have the 3:55 rear. I have to drop mine into sport mode to get the same kick. I think mako1a has that in a V8. I seem to remember him telling about doing donuts in the drive-thru.

Since I already have a Mustang GT, I don't really need another one. Plus, 43x hp would get me in a lot of trouble.
A not too highly optioned Focus ST appeals to me, but the new Civic turbo/stick sounds interesting.
Focus has more power than I would need.
Part of this depends on when the garage space opens up.

You do? You should list your fleet on the page. Us old guys have trouble remembering who has what.

I now recommend that hot Focus SVT or whatever it's called with the 250+ hp. and stick. I think someone posted a video of that car literally shredding the tires down to the rims.

I do know in my CTS 2.0, it has so much torque, so low in the RPM band, it will shove me in the back. Use the paddles to kick it down a gear, and things become real blurry, really quickly.

Hey, speaking of which, how is your 2nd CTS treating you??

@explorerx4 - Ive known you have had your '91 GT Drop Top.  I don't think I've ever seen a picture of it!  That thing looks showroom new!  The '91 - '93 GT fastback was the car I lusted after when I was in high school.  I LOVE those 16" 5 spoke wheels.  Once the GT was ruled out due to sky high insurance rates, I tried to convince the Ford dealer to sell me a 4cyl with those wheels.  They wouldn't do it.  Then we looked at and drove the new '93 Probe GT (the one based off the MX6), which I liked a lot.  The Probe GT ($19K) was more expensive than the Mustang GT ($16K).  The 4 cyl Probe was in my price range, but the wheels were horrendous.  I tried to get the dealer to sell me a base Probe with Probe GT wheels.  "We can't do that."

    @nyccarguy...
I'm thinking there is a liability issue with the dealer swapping out the wheels.
After 25 years, I'm willing to let the Mustang go, but my wife says 'NO'.
Kind of hoping to drive my oldest to her wedding in it(June 2017).
Here is a picture from last summer when out for a drive with a friend who lives up the street and has a last year air cooled 911.

Explorer, that is a great looking car. The white with black accents looks really nice, and I like the large windows and squarish lines. Did you ever tell us how this car came to be? Wouldn't mind more pictures, like the side and back.

VERY nice! Back in 1992 I almost bought a demo 1992 LX 5.0 droptop. Beautiful car but it was not very quick. At all. I think it was because it had a very high(low numerical) rear gear set, since my law partner had a 5.0 GT stick that would roast the tires all day long(I know, he let me borrow it for a day). I think an unmolested car like yours will soon appreciate in value as most Fox body 'stangs have been modded, thrashed, wrecked, or all of the above.

When I played high school football we had a drill where coach would have us all lie down in a line. The guy on the end of the line would peel off and go down the line ramming his helmet into everyone else's helmet, then lie down on the other end so the line kept moving. Long time ago and my wife says that explains a lot.

    'houdini',

Those high school summer practices were brutal. The insane drill you mentioned would get a coach killed today for sure. We didn't have that drill but we had other drills that were just about as bad. I remember we could not go near the water fountain until after practice. That wouldn't fly today either. Sometime when I think back on those August two-a-day practices, I'm sure the coach was getting the guys ready for Marine boot camp if they didn't get a scholarship.

I get thirsty just thinking about those practices and I'm serious about that.

FWIW, I think your wife may be right.

The May Car and Driver features a comparison test of the Focus RS, Golf R, and STI The RS one, the Golf R was a close second and the STI ran a distant third. As cool as the RS seems to be, I'm glad I didn't order one. It's quick but it won't separate any retinas, and I have some concerns about the long term durability of the torque-vectoring rear differential- which has an electronically controlled clutch pack for each axle. Then there is Ford's-and Subaru's, for that matter- penchant for voiding the warranty if they find out you drove it within a mile of a race track.

The only time true performance is essential is moving onto a high-speed interstate or toll road. I get on to the FL Turnpike just about every day. That is when I need a boost of power in order to match the speed of oncoming vehicles. A V6 or inline 6 without a turbo just doesn't do it for me. When I drove the E350 with the 302 hp V6, it was difficult to merge properly because of the lack of a boost of power.
    _________________________________________________________________________________

I'm with you, I don't need all the power that the Genny V8 can provide all the time but when I want it I WANT IT. When I was working I was driving the PA Turnpike about 40 miles round trip. I never had to think twice about having enough power to get around anybody.

I'm sure when you took the Genny V8 for that test drive 2 weeks ago you know what I mean.

We are giving one of the kids my wife's 2013 Escape, so that means an empty garage bay. My wife said I can't sell our convertible and my truck technically fits, but not really practical to do so.
We both agree it would be fun to have a vehicle with a stick again.
This kind of looks good to me.

    http://lombardford.com/Hartford-Ct/For-Sale/New/Ford/Mustang/2016-V6-Gray-Car/46648946/

Not bad. That was my first choice on a Mustang but later I realized if I was going for the gusto I should go all the way and get the 5.0. The only problem with the V8 stick was that I could never get past 3rd before I was illegal.

I wouldn't mind the V6 in a convertible where all out performance isn't as important.

    I'd buy a used 2015 GT before I'd buy a new 2016 V6.
    Every time...
Interesting, I'm just the opposite. I'd assume a used GT was abused so I'd only buy new. I'd figure a V6 was owned by someone who didn't have a need for speed and was driven carefully.

    Crazy huh?

I was at the doctor this morning and received some "not so good news!"  I had an ultrasound Monday morning of my liver.  The results showed an unknown mass in my liver.  They did blood tests this morning to check my kidneys to make sure I can tolerate the dye they use for the CT-Scan.  I will have the Scan as soon as the blood test results are back.

As all of you know, I have had Hep C since 1980 from a blood transfusion.  Hep C eventually causes cancer in its latter stages.  None of the Hep C treatments were successful as you all know.

Still going strong. Had its second service visit a couple of weeks ago. Guess I could complain that the tech messed up reprogramming the airbag for an open recall and I had to go right back in to the service writer to show her the lights on the dash, but that would really be nitpicking. They took it back in and fixed the error in 10 mins. I appreciate that it is the only car in the fleet right now that merely requires I put gas in it, and it is the most enjoyable one I have by far.

A reprieve like what you had would be a blessing, believe me.

It was funny, though, this morning. I asked my doctor what he personally thought about the results. He said to me, "...Michael, stand up!" So, I stood up. He looked at my 255 pounds of love handles as I turned in a circle as he examined me visually. He then said, "...you sure don't look like a cancer patient, Michael! But with your history of diabetes, heart attack, COPD, Hepatitis C, and high blood pressure, one can't be too careful. I wish all my cancer patients looked as healthy as you do from the outside!" We both chuckled. He turned to go out of the examining room and then turned his head toward me and said, "...Michael, good luck!"

Previous V6 Rental Mustangs left a very poor taste in my mouth. I know the newer ones are improved, but I can't get that previous bad taste out. I don't think I would even test drive a V6 Mustang. I did happen to test drive the turbo one, but it was wet out, and they were doing it at the most heavily trafficked streets in San Diego. Pretty much a non-test drive.

This comparison was of manual 6-speed "stick" versions, correct? I guess the Golf R is the only one of the 3 available with a faster speedier automated dual clutch version.

We are giving one of the kids my wife's 2013 Escape, so that means an empty garage bay. My wife said I can't sell our convertible and my truck technically fits, but not really practical to do so.
We both agree it would be fun to have a vehicle with a stick again.
This kind of looks good to me.

    Crazy huh?

All I want to know is if the proper maintenance has been done. If a car is at mile 20,000 and they only have done one oil change or less I'd be worried.

I appreciate that it is the only car in the fleet right now that merely requires I put gas in it, and it is the most enjoyable one I have by far.

    q,

You might call it "nitpicking" but I 'd call it incompetence.

Would it have hurt for the tech to check his work ?

Thanks Bradd, and thanks everyone - prayers are more than welcome!!!

BTW, I called my attorney to ask him about a Dual Durable Power of Attorney for my heirs. He said that it would be wise to execute such an instrument considering my health situation. You might remember that when my Dad was put in the hospital, my brother and I had no access to his investments or his CD's. I did have access to his checking account because I was a signatory. If he had survived, I would have had to place him in an adult living facility which I did not have sufficient funds to pay for. Thus, the reason for the Power of Attorney.

This one is "DUAL", meaning both heirs must be present to present the POA to the bank if funds need to be transferred or withdrawn for my benefit. I felt that if something should happen to me where I was not able to get to the bank to withdraw funds for my care, by presenting the POA to the bank, they will be able to act on my behalf. I sent a draft copy of the POA to the bank to have them review it prior to my executing it Friday morning. If I should become deceased, there is no need for the POA since everything is in trust for the heirs. All they would need is a death certificate. But to sell the car or the Condo, they might still need to POA. I'm just trying to cover all the variables.

I don't know if this helps any of you who do not have joint accounts with a spouse or a parent, but from my experiences in the past year it sure would have come in handy last June.

I retain all three originals of the POA and I put them in my safe with my Will, Deed to the Condo, etc. The heirs know how to get into that safe to access the POA should that ever be needed. I just hope I am doing the right things - I have no training, whatsoever, in this stuff. :s

I test drove a V6 Mustang back in ?? 2014 I believe it was. It had the same 300 horsepower V6, and an automatic transmission. It had no problem whatsoever getting out of it's own way. I daresay it was fast. I also drove a 5.0 GT, and that was FAST!

This was right at the end of the model year, and the V6 automatic could be had for about $19.7, and the GT with automatic for about $26.5k. The only reason I didn't buy one? The console took up about half of the interior space.

Your advice is a good reminder to have good estate and emergency planning in place. Not meaning to be morbid, we aren't promised tomorrow. Anything to make it easier for the family, the better. Mike, you're in my prayers.

Mike, you remind me of a friend who has had a very tough life. He pretty well grew up on his own, and he has had a lot of bad breaks. But, he tries to be positive and make the world a better place. He always signs his emails with this saying, and I think this is like you:

    "Often daunted, never defeated".

In short, I am not going out of this life without a good fight - but I'm in the 13th round of a 15 round fight and I'm getting tired!  :'(
