I don't have much desire any longer to sell off of CL. I may shop there next year, but I suspect I will stick to reputable indy used car dealers for my used car shopping.

I'm more glad that I won't have anything to sell for a long time, so I won't have to deal with listing anything. The leases just go back, and the Acura isn't going anywhere.

Meanwhile here's a great site for finding used cars. :D

Looks kind of shady to me. :p (wouldn't have posted that if the emotorcon weren't working again)

Hey stever, tell your customers that not putting price or milage in their ads is not a smart move. As soon as I see that I move on.

That Mustang is a RWD convert in Vermont. 500 miles was probably all they could get in in between the late spring and early fall snow seasons. IOW, July and August.

Civil twilight in Anchorage today started at 4:52 am and ends at 11:04. Civil twilight means that "there is enough light from the sun during this period that artificial sources of light are not needed to carry on most outdoor activities." (Wiki).

18 hours of light to play in - what's not to like? (@xwesx is up to 20 hours)

My one and only trip to Alaska was in May ... was a business trip but was fortunate enough to bring the wife along with me. On the flight up it was odd to not see the sun move in the sky.

Had dinner most nights around 9:30 - still plenty of light.

Got some sightseeing in as well - glacier tour out of Whittier and a day trip to the aquarium in Seward.

Great place to visit; not at all sure I'd want to live there.

Guy with the '98 Cobra I was stalking called yesterday just to tell me he's not interested in selling it, anymore. Odd...I gave him my phone number to call if he was interested in doing a deal, not to tell me he's not.

The way I took it, he's not interested in selling it for $8,500 and wanted me to know that (a simple "no" would have been sufficient). Perhaps looking for a bump from me. That tells me he didn't find anyone to bite. Someone with an itchy check writing finger will happen along. He asked if I still had his number (I do).

I thanked him for letting me know and wished him well, as I told him again, I thought the Cobra was nice, but needed some things (tires).

Maybe I'll see him at the car show next year and he might be more amenable.

GG, sounds like he definitely wants to sell....just needs an offer he can't refuse. He may settle for a $500 to $1000 bump from your offer.

If you really want the car, that probably isn't a huge amount in the big scheme of things, might mean $100 to $200 a year premium....but, then there is the principle of the whole thing.......getting it for your ideal price.

Sounds more to me that he's not ready to let it go and was just doing a courtesy call so you wouldn't be wondering.

driver....maybe I will. I really liked the car. But, after the initial "heat of the moment" wore off, the more rational part of me took over. I know how we all hate it when that happens.

stever...you might be right, too. I just found it odd, that after nearly a week went by, we didn't communicate, and all of a sudden he contacts me. One would think our prior meeting (where we were debating tire needs and pricing) when no deal was struck, that was the end of it. Then again, I could be reading too much into the call.

Anyway, as they say, "out of sight/out of mind!" If I see it again, who knows what I'll do.

GG, I don't think the extra $500 or $1000 is a big factor........but, the time to ponder whether you really need an extra complication in your life right now might be a bigger factor. It is one of those things we all would like, but, it it really worth all the hassle? In some situations it definitely would be, but, you have a lot going on in your life.

Stever, I don't think you make a call to tell someone you decided not to sell it....without a reason. My guess, is, he is still hoping to get the asking price, just playing a bit hard to get.

Maybe, but when I list something on craigslist and immediately get three emails, I take the ad down and notify all of them that it may be sold. Then if the first buyer does take it, I email the "losers" that the item is gone.

Over the years, I've gotten several thank you replies from people letting me know that I sold it. Can't say I've ever changed my mind about selling something though. Dunno, just seems like old school common courtesy to let someone know that you appreciated their interest in whatever you were selling (or thinking about selling....).

If that ever happened to me - "...after the initial "heat of the moment" wore off..." - I'd still be driving a 2009 Mercedes-Benz E350! Thank goodness I make decisions about cars so fast that I never give the "heat of the moment" a chance to "cool" or wear off!!! :D

It seems every time I see a car I like or would love to own, I immediately go into that "heat of the moment" mood and end up signing paperwork for title to a new car. But with my steadily deteriorating health, I have to resist these temptations in order to ensure I am financially capable of paying for extended health care so I am never a burden to my children.

Thank goodness I love my CLS400 and it just turned 3000 miles on the odometer. At this rate, I'm only driving about 7000 miles a year. I have to learn to be happy with what I've got - NOT!!! B)

I have done that too, if someone who really wanted the item lost out...but, I wouldn't do it for all who offered.

Although I don't ever recall bidding on an item or offering to buy an item,

I have never heard of a seller being considerate enough to offer condolences. They don't even do that when you apply for a job, and don't get it - which is one time it should be done for sure!

But Mike, you wanted the car and could afford it, plus you got killer deals that made it almost like you were just paying for the mileage used on your trade-in car.

Selling cars or big ticket items is different too. The biggest item I sold was the Subaru for $5,000 and it really sold because of the window ad. The smallest item was a shoebox full of wine corks for $2 - someone drove a good twelve miles to pick those up. In that case I didn't have anyone in the wings also wanting them. :D

I'm 26 days away from the second anniversary of ownership of the '09 Grand Caravan, We've put 36,000 miles on it. The three moving trips upped our usual 15,000 annual mileage to 18,000.

TCO has been $5,000 a year plus brakes and gas. Call it $6,000. Deduct saving ~$5,000 on a moving van and it's been a reasonable deal (paid $10,500 for it).

Just passed 161,000 miles so the pressure is on a bit to get another car even though it seems to be running fine.

Michael, stop driving soon. Or swap cars! Or just eat the overage. Another option if you want another hyundai is a pull ahead, but not until your situation is settled. So looks like you will eat some extra miles!

Mine gets even worse next winter. My daughter will be doing a term abroad, so for 4+ months I will have her car laying around too needing exercise. I did not plan my timing out well at all.

I've now had the 2 Series for four months and 4,000 miles. No complaints or regrets. The ability to switch from cruiser mode to track rat with the press of a button is really nice. I finally started playing with the BMW Connected app and I like the ability to send destinations from my phone to the car. Not a technology I would have ordered on a new car, but fun just the same.
I'm still averaging around 26 mpg, which isn't too bad considering the performance that's on tap.

When my daughter went abroad I sold our second car and drove hers for 6 months. Then I bought a used car when she got back and drove that until after she graduated, at which time we sold her car. She has lived in large cities ever since so she hasn't needed or wanted a car. That allowed us to save up for to get a new car so it all worked out pretty well.

I believe ReachNow is using the same technology in their app as well, so when you reserve one of their rideshare cars, you have an option of sending the address to the Nav system. When you turn on the car and login for your trip, using a PIN entered into iDrive, it immediately switches on the Navigation. Pretty nifty.

Great MPG. I think the ability to send addresses from your phone to your car is available in a few different "technologies". I like the feature. But, more and more, and like most new-er in car NAV features, they are becoming redundant.

I'm using Siri more and more, and the Caddy CUE less and less. From GPS, to music, to podcasts, etc. It's just a voice question away...."hey Siri, what was the final Red's score today?" Through the audio system, I get my answer.

That technology of being able to send maps to your car GPS is incredible, and it is even in a VW (no offense - I just find it amazing) . And, asking Siri for the baseball scores....that is wild!

Yes, smart auto-makers should just give up trying to overcharge for redundant technologies and just make the car cheaper and/or better for the same price or better value. Of course, I might be wrong as I'm sure this is a big cash cow for them at the current take rates for overpriced built-in NAV.

Is there an app that can find lost key fobs? I seem to have misplaced one for my Mustang and I seem to remember reading of an app that would "ping" the key and let you know where it is. Would it have to be the latest smart phone? My son has a two year old phone.

DOES this guy honestly think somebody from Craig's list is going to show up at his door step with a check for almost $100K?  What is the purpose of buying a Z06 with an automatic?  I get that not everyone wants to or can't drive a stick, but save yourself thousands and get a standard C7 drop top with an automatic & magnetic ride control.
