I also jumped straight to Rolls Royce. I had to re-read the entire thing, particularly the part about Jaguar/LR dealership, before I decided it was a Range Rover.
ok, so I googled and found a bunch of videos of vehicles "falling" off lifts. Seems most involve crappy 2- and 4-post lifts where the arms are just long enough to get under the body lift points and they either give way or move. If this RR dealership is using such a system, they deserve whatever comes their way as a result of this. I would never trust that.

I dunno....aside from the obvious cosmetics, there's probably strut tower damage, front cross member probably bent, who knows what needs to be done in the engine compartment....air box, A/C condenser, radiator...then there's the wheel, linkage assembly, maybe 4WD components in the front and the electronics to drive them.
No way I'd want it repaired.
Insurance will try to do a "cosmetic pound and paint" job on it, but my guess that it will be a headache from this point forward.
When we bought the C250 I signed about 25 documents, one was something about not using a lawyer in a dispute....I agreed to arbitration. There is probably similar wording on a work order. To me it is like an accident on the road. I don't agree with it, but I don't agree that getting your car patched up is the same as making the car the way it was...........but, would you expect a 2 year old car to be replaced by a new one because of a stupid mistake?
The car only shows impact damage above the left front wheel. Even the headlight is not cracked or forced out of position on the usually fragile brackets that hold it in place. The left front wheel looks straight and true, so I suspect all the force went into the top fender and the edge of the hood when that part hit something as it twisted sideways. The doors and rear panels along with the upper glass panels don't show any damage.
Couple days in the body shop will have it back to it's original quality.

Since the person I talked with is not my actual manager, I had to share with him my current salary. He understood my point and would look into some sort of raise, and that we'll talk after the holidays.

If you are going to assume more workload, then additional compensation should go without saying. The only "saying" should be how much.

I agree with your take on this, JM, to some extent. The compensation "issue" needs to be addressed, but I think the "addressing" was a bit premature and with, perhaps, the wrong person. If Michaell had been with this company for several years, compensation discussions are appropriate. But, since he has been with the company only a few short months, more tact and diplomatic "talks" are, in my opinion, a necessity. I might have done it this way:
"...thanks for the opportunity to increase the use of my skills and to manage those in my immediate work environment in achieving specific goals. Besides, my wife and I could sure use the extra compensation that I am sure will go along with the added responsibility."
The approach I suggested above "opens the door" to compensation discussion but does not assume a specific amount of salary increase. After all, it is not the employee who sets the compensation package, it's the employer and/or Human Resources.

All this Jaguar talk. A friend of my best friend recently had to close his high end art framing business. The guy is an automotive encyclopedia & a serious car enthusiast. He's got a gorgeous, modified, C6 Corvette. He landed himself a job selling at the Jaguar/LR dealer in Larchmont.
There's an incident where a very high end RR (president's edition?) fell off a lift and landed on its side. The dealership's insurance company wants to fix it. The people don't want it back. They are insisting on a new one.
I doubt that will ever happen, but they should be able to work out a good deal on a new one. It's really no different IMO than if the car got smacked in the street. You don't get a new car then either.

If you really "need" and/or "want" a German car, it is hard to settle for anything else. It won't give you the same amount of satisfaction. And, if there is a problem or something just isn't up to expectation, you will regret it until you get what you originally wanted. Few people will take that chance.

I told this tale back in the SFTSFL days about 5 years ago about one of the young female engineers that was driving a 3 Series, like a lot of the young ones back in that era did, who took up 2 spaces:
Two guys that worked in the shop area pulled so close to her with their Winter beater pickups, they damn near removed some wax from her car. She couldn't get out a little before quitting time and was in tears in the lobby telling the guard about her situation.
The guard made an announcement over the PA system with the license numbers of the vehicles that should be moved. So I was told, and then verified it, when all the guys in the shop area heard this announcement that they were waiting for all day, the whole area erupted with laughter. The guys involved did not go out immediately to remove their trucks. Their manager, who had heard about what they did earlier in the day, called them into his office about 20 minutes later and said, "OK guys you've had your fun. Just go move your trucks. It's quitting time so just go do it now. I don't want my boss calling me again about this". They complied with his order.
That gal never took up 2 spots again after that nor did anyone else.

A couple of years back, I found a guy on Ebay who would not only sell me a Cadillac key (programmable) but also cut the key for me after I sent him a picture of the existing key. Worked like a charm.
Of course, then he had your address, and knew how to make a key to your Caddy. You didn't have the same thing done for your F-150 that had the parts stolen did you?
I wouldn't want it back either, but I don't think you really have a choice if the dealer refuses.
I would think someone who wants to spend money on an RR would have brains enough not to accept the dealership's repairing it and also could afford a really good set of attorneys to litigate. As I understand, it's the dealership's responsibility: if their insurance company doesn't want to fully make the damaged parties whole, the dealership can pony up the extra to replace the vehicle. The car owners don't have to accept or be limited by what the insurance company wants to do.
Good luck on that case! I don't think they have much of a chance. The courts like Insurance companies. They pretty much accept that fixing a car is making someone whole, and they may grant some diminished value on top of fixing the car, but full replacement??? No way. Probably depreciated 50% already.

Your gate is always at the end of the concourse for the same reason that when you get to the express checkout lane at the supermarket, the old man in front of you drops the bag of dimes he was going to use to pay for his groceries.

Yeah, that's not going to happen unless they are so rich that they can re-write their state's insurance laws. If they were clever, they would accept the repaired car but then file a claim to the dealer's insurance company for a) diminution of value and b) loss of use.

Things change. I boycotted GM from 1999 all that way to 2012 and have had two perfect GM vehicles in a row.
Ditto on the "things change" regarding buying brands of cars. I vowed (posted many times here) never again to buy a BMW after two 2008 535i's had the identical problems even after BMW built a second one for me at no cost and ended up with BMW technical specialists scratching their heads. Could never figure out why two identical cars built in the same factory 3 months apart could exhibit the same identical unfixable computer glitch problem.
In fact, I bought a 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 BMW from the exact same dealership I just bought the 740i from. Things do change - probably more with us (human beings) than with the product we buy. I think we become a bit more flexible as we age and the product becomes more attractive with time - who knows? Whatever the reason, here I am again in a BMW I vowed never again to own. Go figure!

We never did agree on a time and a place to meet for a "bite", did we? See what you did, driver100? You scared him off by inviting yourself to lunch. Happens to me all the time - get invited somewhere and then have the rendezvous specifics fall apart.
BTW, snake - there aren't too many places in Florida I would avoid visiting during Winter Break immediately before or after Christmas - and Orlando is one of those places I would avoid like the plague. With the weather being so beautiful and above average temps for us here in Florida this year, the entire population of the World will be driving or flying into Orlando for the holidays.
Just enjoy the weather and be patient with the traffic and the long lines at restaurants, car rental agencies, resorts, rides, attractions and even bathrooms.

Neither! I'm older and more flexible and things do change - but I prefer German manufactured vehicles as you can guess from my love affair with Mercedes and now BMW. But Audi is out - just don't like the room, ride or looks of the Audi - just a personal opinion - nothing against Audi.
I am a bit peeved with Mercedes, though. They come out with a completely restyled and re-engineered E Class and put a gerbil cage under the hood with four gerbils in it to use as a power plant. I would have definitely bought a 6 cylinder E Class instead of the 740i, but one was not to be had. The only 6 cylinder E Class they will be manufacturing is the AMG E43 for about $85,000 with no discounting. I also might have purchased a 535i, but because they are coming out with a completely restyled 5 series car in March or April of 2017, it would have been foolish to buy one.
I just bought a 740i loaded with 3 X the technology I would have gotten in the $85,000 E43 (the way they ordered it) that MSRP's for $91,495 for $81,261 after the USAA discount of $2500. Mercedes just lost me as a customer - too bad.
I've owned Cadillacs and Lincolns, but...I guess the fact that I am 3/4's German in ancestry is why I "lean" that way.
Ok I am still the airport way to early. We gave ourselves plenty of time because it's a heavy travel day so we thought that the lines at the security checkpoint would be long. Well our boarding passes had "TSA precheck on them so we went through security in no time.
.
Don't get too excited yet....getting out of Orlando airport isn't so easy. You'll go through security twice and have to pick up your luggage twice.
So what day are you meeting Mike and I in Fort Meyers?

You should have looked into buying a 2017 E400 in Canada. It isn't offered in the US, but it has a V6 and 339 hp. Cost would be about $76000 Cdn which would be about $56000 USD. Might be a long drive for servicing.

Item 1, he was several states away, more than a thousand miles, as I recall. And while he might know how to cut the key, he did NOT know how to program it, and the car would not start without the key being programmed. Programming the new key requires a multi-step process using the old key.
And no, I have not lost any keys to my new truck. On the Cadillac, I bought it used and only received one key.

So what day are you meeting Mike and I in Fort Meyers?

Are you a "Villages" person, population 150000 with multiple golf courses and things going on or a quiet low key area kind of person? What area are you interested in?
Fort Meyers is a nice place to look.

Just an hour before the blower motor on my furnace failed. Merry Christmas to me!
