Congratulation or maybe it's congratulations on being insulted. For all I know Edmunds has sent me a few "chewed you out emails over the years". I couldn't honestly say that I didn't deserve them but they never arrived because my email on my Edmunds profile page is not my correct email. Are you listening @isellhondas / @isellhondas4? I've tried a few times to correct it but I can't. It's a good thing I remembered what my old email was or I could be sailing in the same boat with @isellhondas. :'( I hope I ain't doing anything illegal in here. :o jmonroe
    You definitely deserved it/them!   ;)

Sunday can be a little slow and I just received this joke which I thought might be slightly on topic: A retired older couple return to a Mercedes dealership where the salesman has just sold the car they were interested in to a beautiful blonde in a mini skirt and halter top. The old man was visibly upset. He spoke to the salesman sharply. "Young man, I thought you said you would hold that car till we raised the $55,000 asking price," said the older man. "Yet I just heard you closed the deal for $45,000 to the lovely young lady there." "And if I remember right, you had insisted there was no way you could discount this model." The salesman took a deep breath, cleared his throat and reached for a large glass of water. "Well, what can I tell you? She had the cash ready, didn't need any financing help, and, Sir, just look at her, how could I resist?", replied the grinning salesman sheepishly. Just then the young woman approached the senior couple and gave the car keys to the old man... "There you go," she said. "I told you I could get him to lower the price... see you later, Dad."
Somebody already posted that story and Edmunds did an exhaustive investigation. The results concluded that @abacomike was the salesman but, with all of his stories, he never let that one out. :s jmonroe
Darn it - you caught me at it!   B)
Don't get me into this. What gave you away was your phone. You butt called or should I say you butt sent pics to Edmunds from your phones secret memory setting which is some of that high tech stuff you have not figured out yet and the rest is history. :p jmonroe
    That's what I have plenty of - history!!!  :p

I read somewhere that the BMW 740i and 750i are built on the same Chassis as the Bentley Mulsanne, which surprised me. The 7 series has a wheelbase of 126.4"! :o

Can't be true. Bentley is VW's brand, so perhaps Cayenne/Audi Q7/VW Tuareg. Rolls Royce is owned by BMW, not Bentley.

A sidenote about the post where I received criticism, LOL, about IKEA where Sweden and Swiss people were conflated. I don't know if I did it or if my phone did as I used the swipe method of linking letters to have the phone type the word I dragged across. I am frustrated enough trying to use my phone to get the new comment in the right place within the messge box--it wants to put it at the beginning. So just blame me. The both begin with "s."

I was glad to notice only two people commented. I guess most have figured out my degrees weren't in geography.

P.S. If "conflate" is not the right word there, please supply the correction. Thx for reading.

Not quite the right use of the word but darn close. "Conflate" means to join or blend. I'm not sure if it means to "confuse" one with the other---sort of, I guess. :D

Just came back from the quick market (UDF) and was listening to Detroit radio. They had a program about self-driving cars with an expert from MSU (Michigan State University). He was very good and probably involved in development but it seemed like 1956 all over again with the Popular Science, Popular Mechanix, and there was a third magazine. They were all predicting cars that drove themselves all around by some date, often 50 years in the future.

Before your time for many of you here but it would be interesting reading with all the optimism in the articles.

All I can think about is what if the program operating the vehicles and the intervehicular communication goes to a blue screen of death a la Microsoft operating systems in the recent past?

GG, I came up with another blockbuster idea! Remember these guys whose luggage was lost on an airline, and they made a youtube video, and millions of people watched it?

Well, you make a youtube video and you sing my song, to the tune of This Old Heart of Mine.....

    This Old CTS of Mine

This old CTS of mine been broke a thousand times
Each time you break again, I fear you've gone to stay
Lonely nights that come, over two months you've been gone,
    Hurting me more and more
Maybe it's my mistake to show feelings I feel inside
'Cause each day that passes by you got me
Never knowing if I'm coming or going, but I, I don't like you
This old heart is failing because of you
I loved you, yes, I did
These old arms of mine miss driving you around
Makes these tears inside start a-falling down
    Always broken and never fixed,
You remind me of what I miss
Though I try to control myself
Like a fool I start grinnin' 'cause my head starts spinnin' 'cause I
    I loved you
This is old heart, darling is crying because of you
I love my new Infinity though,
Ooh, I…love you, my new Infinity now,
because it really does drive well
This new Infinity of mine won't break my heart again,
    because I love youuuuuuuu.................

I think those cars looked okay with the various roof coverings and ornamentation because the back glass is more vertical. The sloping aero rear windows of a Buick laCrosse for the last few years does not look good. Nor does the Lexus in the picture.

The ultimate was the Olds 98 and Buick PA with the very erect rear windows from before 1992, if I've got the right date.

I was watching CNBC the other day (the recent market rise has made me richer than jmonroe) and they had a commentator say that self driving trucks were only 5 years away. Made sense as there is a tremendous shortage of CDL A drivers in the country and shortages beget technology.

I share your concern for tech failures on a huge hunk of moving metal. The blue screen of death or the orange pumpkin of doom thrown from an overpass could cause catastrophic problems.

I think dealers slap those on aftermarket hoping for a boost in profit. One I saw in a showroom had a $3000 ADM sticker. Can't understand the logic. Unless you get lucky and sell to some old geezer with cataracts you'd probably get stuck giving it away for free after it become a lot queen.

I live in prime offshore money laundering real estate territory, I have seen a couple Bentayga on the road. To my eyes, it looks smaller in person than in pics, but maybe just compared to all of the Escalades and G-Wagens around here.

That Lexus ES is amusing, what we can call the "Florida package" (maybe once the "New Jersey package" too) :)
Same. My friends and family here in NJ, including my FIL who has a vinyl roof and gold emblems on his MGM, call it the Florida Package.

Keep in mind, since most of FL is made up of migrated NY/NJ residents it did originate as the "NJ Package." I only offer this from my experience as an original New Yorker. My purpose in visiting FL was to see my ailing Grandpa who recently moved there himself from Freehold. He's not driving anymore, and fortunately his last ride was a tasteful (if not a bit ratty toward the end) '98 Camry that you just couldn't kill no matter how many times it hit something or was hit. We used to joke that it would soon be a Flintstones car with nothing but a seat, steering wheel, motor and four wheels. That said, the four banger was still so buttery smooth that you couldn't hear it at idle. A great last car!

Dont know if this has been mentioned, but on my old desktop there was a backup and restore function. The computer automatically backups up data at preset intervals, usually every 3-4 days. So you could go back however many months, and restore to that days settings and passwords. Kind of like having a time machine. Havent used that computer in years. If it works I'll be expecting some monetary or vehicular compensation from isellhondas4. Didn't somebody post photos of a Bentley awhile back?  ;)

I consider it an achievement to have have done what I did...I have often wondered how any body can write a song....and the melody is even harder....and that I didn't have to do.

I'll leave a rap version to someone else.......rap crap ain't my thing.

Too bad fezo isn't around...I am sure if he made a youtube version it would go viral....and I would sell him the rights for a reasonable price.

Every car manufacturer has many different levels of service related documentation.   In GG's (extremely unfortunate) case someone identified a very small amount of cars with a serious problem.   It was communicated to the owners to avoid fires, injury, etc   It obviously is not a full blown recall that affects tens of thousands of cars, just a small sampling.

Do you have any idea the amount of TSBs each auto maker issues every year?

Caddy's handling of GGs situation is beyond deplorable.  At some point in time a decision has to be realized that the parts to fix said vehicle are taking too long to come in and restitution must be made.   A new equivalent vehicle should have been provided.   To make matters worse, at the tail end (when Caddy corporate was pushing I'm sure) the dealer rushed the job and gave him back a car that wasn't put back together properly.

I went through a very similar situation with my 98 Olds 88.  Bought it brand new off the showroom floor and in the 11 months I owned it that car was in the shop for at least 3 months.  At one point I went to the dealer to check on it and the entire (read: Entire) interior was torn out looking for the water leak.   I about lost my mind.   To make a long story short, I said stop everything you are doing... put it back together and I want it back by EOD tomorrow.   They did just that and I traded it in on a rainy day with wet floors.  I took an absolute beating.

The car hadn't been right for months.  The interior rattled, the electronics worked when they want to.  GM didn't givr a crap, they just said "our only obligation is to keep repairing under warranty".

I was too young at the time to fully fight them and just cut my losses.

@graphicguy I feel your pain. Good luck with arbitration and getting your money back.

It's that kind of story about your old Olds 88 that makes me feel even more certain failing companies should be allowed to fail. They'd fail much sooner, faster, and quicker if it wasn't for the fact that they are able to take advantage of many disadvantaged customers.

WOW! And yet you bought another GM product......2015 Buick Enclave. I know Buick has great dependability these days, but, I think those experiences would have steered most people away from another GM product.

Our 95 Volvo kept stalling and 3 dealers couldn't fix it properly. We paid a penalty early lease return, and I am not saying I would never buy another Volvo, but, there would have to be a very compelling reason for me to buy another one. Maybe some people are more forgiving than others.

I am definitely more forgiving. I mean, look at it in an extreme case: if you had a Hyundai Excel in the late '80s/early '90s, would you still hold that awful experience against a manufacturer of some of the most reliable cars today?

It would depend on how they treated me (their customer) when those problems occurred with their junky product. Also, how did they advertise the "Excel" at the time? Did they claim it "was all-new, and different from the junk they had made before?" That was a problem for me, the Big 3 kept constantly lying about improving and changing when the same old junk came off their lines year after year, decade after decade.

Motorweek did a review of a new Volvo 90 and they were describing and it sounded like they tried to lower the volume or the speaker choked when he said it was a Chinese engine.

I thought about all the criticism a major car company has taken about Chinese engines and yet Motorweek was lovin' that car. http://www.motorweek.org/reviews/road_tests/2017-volvo-s90/

I didn't watch the online playback of the video, but the text is clear about the Chinese engine. Sort of like going to local Ikea and everything, almost, is tagged with "Swedish excellence" or something to that effect. And if you look everywhere you'll find the "Made in China" label. LOL They try to make folks think the products are made by the Swiss.
To be fair I bought some furniture from IKEA that was "Made in Germany." Now, I didn't inventory the whole store, but I know they have at least 2 or 3 products in that one aisle I checked from Germany. I'd imagine they get stuff from all over, but without checking every aisle, I wouldn't know.

Thanks, TJC. I'm determined this time. I know it's a David vs Goliath scenario. But, their treatment of me has been my motivator. GM is trying to make this as difficult as possible. I was thinking last night, what a miserable job it must be to be a Cadillac Customer Service rep. They are neither focosed on the Customer, or Service! Not sure what it is they do.

Got a call from the dealership this a.m. (General Manager) Not sure what GM has told them, but they want their loaner back. Not sure what Cadillac told GM, but he acted like he didn't know what was going on. He said he thought I was a happy ower. Yeah....that's why I've had the loaner(s) for two months.

I know where this goes from here. Now, it really gets contentious.

If I were you at this point, I'd throw everything including the Kitchen sink at them. Maybe a few lawsuits, including a few class action start-ups against them for stealing and thieving from tax payers, for negligently managing the company and the stock fund in a way that led to tremendous (about $16 Billion depending on how fake the news is and who you ask) in losses for taxpayers.

Also, I wouldn't return the loaner unless they have a safely "running" equivalent car for me. I don't remember reading (at least in CA law) anything that should penalize a customer for seeking a lemon buyback refund.

I have an IKEA TV hutch made in Germany, and IKEA dressers made in Poland. Lots of Euro stuff there, but lots of it isn't as well.

I was checking wikipedia about the Excel:
the Excel's faults soon became apparent; cost-cutting measures caused reliability to suffer. With an increasingly poor reputation for quality, Hyundai sales plummeted, and many dealerships either earned their profits on repairs or abandoned the product. At one point, Hyundai became the butt of many jokes (i.e. Hyundai stands for "Hope you understand nothing's driveable and inexpensive") and even made David Letterman's Top Ten Hilarious Mischief Night Pranks To Play In Space: No.8 – Paste a "Hyundai" logo on the main control panel

At about the same time in1985 Canadians got Hyundai Pony (didn't pass emissions test in the US)....it was very inexpensive and soon became a #1 seller, but quality was extremely poor. Fortunately, the company made reliability a major goal, and they really turned it around.

Thanks for the pics, actually aside from the front not a bad looking vehicle.

Yes, besides the front end, looks like a cross between an Alltrack and X1. I prefer Pure White if I'm going white; that color looks rather off-white or ivory-ish.

I like the wheels on that Pony. Of course it has BC plates. Canada also got things like Skoda and Lada never sold south of the border (for political reasons no doubt) that were probably even cheaper, and in the case of the latter, no more reliable,

What kind of drugs were they smoking or injecting in 1986 that would make someone think that car looks like a million bucks? A million turds is more like it.

You're a taxpayer, so why don't you file a class action lawsuit against them?  This would seem to be right up your alley.

Exactly right. My post was long enough so I didn't add that the primary place in the store was wasn't China-sourced stuff was the furniture. I didn't find any USA when I check boxes long ago, but many Poland and some Deutschland along with a few others.

Getting through the stores with the zigzag pathways is like running the gauntlet at an auto dealer first negotiating to buy, then through the financing, then the add ons. A little humor is when I bought the 14 Malibu they tried to sell me insurance on the wheels on the LT2.

Yep, Canadians traditionally loved cheap cars. My favorite example from that mid-80s era was the Dacia, a Renault 12 made in Romania that was sold here to a small group of masochists. My cheapskate brother bought a Lada and had no end of problems, to nobody's surprise but his.

Most of these cars were truly awful. Here is a comparison test from the mid-80s that captures that:
