I wanted to share my very good result from this weekend. I have learned the key to getting a good price is to avoid the dealership at all costs with the exception of checking out the car and test drive. I emailed twenty dealers in and around Los Angeles over the last 2 weeks and it created a feeding frenzy and they kept beating each other when I forwarded competitor emails around. It took some time and effort but was well worth it based on my final price.

I just picked up a new Accord Sedan LX Auto for $17,654 including destination, and $19,345 out the door when you add tax (8.25%) and license at Kolbe Honda in Reseda, CA.

Internet shopping is the way to go! Walked in with the email and I was out of there in 2 hours...very good service. They do try to sell you on the extended warranty and security system....but not hard.

I have competitive quotes from a few dealers in the Westchester area for a new accord with Navi. Anyone have any recent buying experience with the following dealers:

    White Plains Honda
    Curry Honda
    Rushneck Honda
    Yonkers
    New Rochelle

I know that there are few others in the area, so if you have had any experience with the above or others I would welcome your comments.

    Thanks

I am interested in purchasing a Honda Accord EX V6 without Nav. 4 door in the Bay Area. Does anyone know what the best price is and where to get it? I got a quote from SF Honda for $24,675 which is about $500 above invoice. Recent threads in December 04 indicates that I might be able to get below invoice ($22,638 in Fremont). SF Salesman informed me the reason for that low price is because in Dec., Honda has a huge dealer incentive. Also heard from another salesman that there is a dealer incentive starting this week, don't know how much. Does anyone know?
  • tazclifftazcliff Member Posts: 1
I went through cars direct & got a price of 19,584 +ttl. out the door price was 21,272.
  • rtc27rtc27 Member Posts: 13
Thanks for the comments. The lowest quotes are coming from Curry and I am expecting a lower one from White Plains. The New Rochelle dealer won't release quotes via email. I have yet to call.

I just got quoted 21,924 incl destination fee by Wilde Honda of Waukesha, and 21990.00 by Planet Honda for 4cyl EX-L. This seems to be higher than people were getting here, since with TTL this would bring the deal above 23K for sure.

Just bought a 2005 Accord EXL V6 auto 4 door, desert mist with 20 miles on it for $26000 out the door.
The price includes destination charges, extra tint, mud guards, trunk tray, and wheel locks.
It also includes a Texas 6.25% sales tax and all other fees.
    It's a VERY nice car!

It seems like the deals are pretty good on Hondas these days. I need to keep my other car for a while yet, but am not averse to getting a good deal while I can.

Anybody know if the dealer incentives, etc., are not likely to last?
  • bobstbobst Member Posts: 1,776
My quess is the reason for the incentives was they were making the cars faster than people were buying them.

When people start buying cars faster than they can make them, the incentives will stop. For all we know, that may happen this afternoon.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
It was reported on the 14th that Honda had a 73 day supply of Accords and the sales of the Accord were off 15% compared to last year. So they started a new up to $600 dealer incentive to help move cars. No problems selling "trucks" (SUVs and Vans included) just the Civic and Accord that are slow sellers.

How long will it last? At lease to the end of the month and maybe longer - it all just depends on how many extra sales this generates. The dealers around here have not really taken advantage of the promo money to offer deals in the local paper or anything special to move cars. I guess they either don't care to increase volume or don't want to be seen discounting cars. Lots of high volume dealers already had good prices, now they just have better ones.

Any idea how it's looking to get the 2.9% in mid-to-late April? I know it's probably too soon to tell, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
No telling. They have been doing that for while, and extended it for March and expanded it to include the hybrid (which is no longer selling as quick as they come in most places). If the extra $600 in dealer cash does not move enough cars then I would expect they will keep it - or even lower it.

In the Bay Area, try Autowest Honda in Fremont. You can request a quote from their internet site. I bought my 4cyl EX-L auto from them in January for 1,500 under invoice (21,196). I originally wanted the V6 EX, which they also offered at 1,500 under invoice in December and again in January. Anderson Honda in Palo Alto offered me the same car for only about 100 under invoice.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
That appears to be a very good price but you need to tell us the actual price before fees and TTL to make in really meaningful. Thanks.

I am looking to lease an '05 Ex V6 w/o navi in black. I live in Philadelphia, PA.

I rec'vd an Internet offer of MSRP-$27,365 which includes $515 desitination. Price is $24,291. 36 month payment would be $355 for 12k.

Is this competitive? Could I--Should I do better?

    Any help is appreciated!

I am just about the start looking for a Honda in the Bay Area. I live in Dublin. I have had it with Toyota's service...cocky service reps, you can't trust them at all...very rude. I experienced this at Dublin, Walnut Creek, and had some really bad experiences with another. The sales reps were simply cocky for no reason as if they didn't care...not thorough at all, and just jammed up the price on repairs. I just got my 11 year old camery repaired on an oil leak for $1200 and it's still leaking, now Ihave to bring it in and I don't have any confidence they give a damn about doing it right at this point. I like Toyota's better in the look of the cars but oh well...screw them. My wife has much better service with Honda, much like Toyota USED to be...very curtious, thorough, and trustworthy.

So, I am looking to buy in the East Bay, know nothing about buying a car just that I need to get the best price and not get ripped off.

I'll try Fremont as seen in the posts. Thinking about a demo as we have bought demos in the past from Toyota. I don't know what to be careful of, what questions to ask, etc. to protect myself...if you have any let me know, otherwise I have a lot of research to do. What's the game, how do these dealers suck you in?

I got a quote for 23,038 before ttl from Autonation in Fremont, but since I live in Oregon and can't figure out how to avoid CA sales tax, I did not pursue it, so I don't know if it is real or not. I assume your 22,638 is from the same place.

I have written about this a couple of times on this board so I hope not one minds to see it again.

I am from Colorado and bought an accord in California and paid no California sales tax. It was done in this way. I flew to Sacramento and was met at the airport by a driver from Auto West in Roseville. The entire processes took less than an hour. After signing papers I followed a driver out of the state to Reno. I then signed papers at a notary republic that I lived out of state and that I was taking the car out of California. Because I took delivery of the car out of state there was no sales tax.

This was not the first time they had done this, it seemed like the driver did it quite a few times. The Notary knew him by name and they talked for some time.

You would need to find a dealer close enough to the state line that will drive the car to another state so you do not pay state sales tax. Again, the dealer at Roseville outside of Sacramento gave me a very good price.

    Hope this helps

    Hi two42nite,
I just got a quote today for $23,173 from Auto West in Fremont (same as Autonation) before TTL, includes destination charge. When did you get your quote? Was it an online quote? Don't think I can get the $22,638. Everyone is tell me that there were big incentives at the end of December 04.
  • two42nitetwo42nite Member Posts: 5
    sfdad,
The quote was on March 9. But your deal is essentially the same ($135 different). I would go for it! Let me (us) know if it all works out. Good luck!

After shopping around the Chicago area, I finalized a purchase on an '05 Accord EX-L sedan, auto.

I think the reason that we are seeing a variety of deals is that the $600 incentive often mentioned is actually a tiered incentive tied to monthly sales; a dealership is given a sales goal by Honda based on previous numbers. Two adjacent dealerships may have varying goals. In order to get the maximum incentive, the dealer has to have earned it, so some dealerships may not have the maneuverability to deal if their sales numbers are weak. Seems backwards, like a vicious circle.

I tried Grand, who gave me good quotes but in vague language. When I asked detailed questions about the vehicle they were quoting for, I received back boilerplate responses in broken english. O'Hare wouldn't deal and was rude. Since my last post, I received another unsolicited message from the same internet manager criticizing me for playing "pricing games" and getting dealers to bid against one another. Continental was cordial but also failed to deal. Upon seeing my other quotes, Lisle wouldn't even give me one. McGrath in St. Charles advertises that they'll beat any quote, but proceeded to quote me $300 over my highest one.

I highly recommend Bemis Auto World/Honda in Sycamore. I bought my vehicle for 21,674 + TTL. Every aspect of the experience was flawless.I mistakenly showed up at the dealership without my liscense transfer paperwork; to avoid making me drive back out, the sales manager gave me new plates, backing the liscense fee off of the car price.

Genuine people, seemed highly authentic and trustworthy. Most importantly, they seemed to understand that some buyers are informed and have better things to do with their time then hear horror stories about the competition. It was worth the drive out there.

Congratulations of the new Accord! That is a great price. It is $1000 under invoice. What was the MSRP of your car? Was there a trade-in involved? The only item on top of the 21,674 was the Il. tax, license, and title fees?

    Honda Accord LX 2.4L Automatic
    Purchase date: 03/22/05 (New Jersey)
    Price paid: $17,750 + tax/license/fees
  • ev12ev12 Member Posts: 9
MSRP was $24,500, Total Vehical Sticker Price was $25,015.

No trade in, paid Illinois sales tax, $55.35 doc fee, $65 new title fee, and as I mentioned, received the new plates ($78)as a courtesy.

I just purchased a 2005 EX-MT, the dealership offered a guaranteed 5k for a trade. (my car was terminal, needed a new engine and front end, leaked carpon monoxide into the car due to problems. One dealer offered me $200 for it ) Anyway, the sticker price was $23014 with dest. charge. They took off 5k, to make it $18014. There was approx $250 for document, title, etc, so the total came to approx $18300. I thought it was a steal, esp since i couldnt have sold my used car for any money. I got this deal in Johnston, Rhode Island.

    Hi Ev12:

"nobody in the Midwest will honor Grand Honda's prices"

Not only did you beat Grand Honda’s pricing and debunk anything O’Hare Honda told you, you beat $1,000 under which is a pretty good deal if you ask me …

Good Luck and enjoy your new Accord.

I live in Alexandria VA and drove down to Winston-Salem NC to sell our ten year old Accord V6 (has 200,000 and got $3300 for it) and we just stopped by the local Honda dealership (Flow Honda) to look around and bought a 2005 Accord EX-L V6. It had 3 miles on it.We paid 25,400 - drive out. We probably paid a couple of hundred too much, but the experiance was great and quick. They transferred the taxes from NC to VA for us and even called our insurance to ensure coverage. It was sooo much better then the dealers here. Great experiance.

DCSAAB--What was the exact model you purchased? EX-L-V6-auto-NAV-xm? CM6685JNW? (that # might be on your bill of sale -- can you check please??). If that's the model and that's your drive out, that appears to be a really good deal. (I'm in Manassas.)

MR GERDES--What are your thoughts on a local dealer offering all Accords at $1100 below invoice?

    THANKS ALL!!

    Hi
I am getting a 2005 Honda Accord LX 5 speed Automatic for $17,200 including destination Charges.. Do you think this is a good price or can i still shop around to beat the price

    Price $17,200 +
    doc fee $250 +
    MVP $254 +
    Tire Tax $7.50
    Plus Credit checking $52

Can anyone tell the doc fee , MVP and Credit check are the numbers correct.... i am in New Jersey...

IF this is good price i am planning to go tomorrow to get the car.
  • barry70barry70 Member Posts: 20
What dealer in NJ did you get this quote from?

Ok great. Good luck - I'll check back....

    ilusrini,

This is a great deal....all the numbers look legit, except the credit checking fee. IMO, it's too much, usually its about $10-20...but hey with that kind of deal, I think the $52 is not too bad...negotiate with them to see if they will drop or reduce it.

I purchased my 2005 Honda Accord LX 5 speed Automatic for $17,585 + destination + TTL, on 3/12/05. The dealer threw in pin stripe, mud/splash guards, wheel locks and free oil change at no extra cost which retails at about $200.00 (not including the free oil chnage) as well as a a thank you gift certificate of $25

I'll say you're getting a sweet deal, but make sure they don't take you to the cleaners by manipulating the numbers for your financing. If I were you, I will get my own financing from my credit union or Capital One Auto Finance or E-Loans....that way they can't fiddle with your payments.....Am not saying that's what they will do, just a precautionary measure for you to look into!

    Good Luck...

    Hi Jhs70:

That sounds like a great price indeed! Given the latest FTD incentives, I would squeeze for another $2 to $400 myself ;-)

Please post this dealerships name and location so others in and around your area have a place to purchase at $1,100 under invoice as well …

    Good Luck

jhs - We bought a EX-L V6 4-door xm (Black) - without Nav. Yeah, I think we paid probably $200~$300 too much, but honestly, it was worth it to us. Bill Page Honda laughed at my low ball original offer and Landmark Honda wanted to give us only "a couple of hundred dollars" for our trade. Let me know what you end up doing - good luck.

I just purchased an Accord LX auto transmission at Right Honda in Scottsdale.

    $18,235 Base Price
    165 Window Tint
    1,462 Tax
    348 Title
    290 Doc Fees
    5 Tire Tax
    -----------------
    $20,505 OTD

Seems like prices are higher here in Phoenix than some other areas I'm reading about in this forum. Or maybe I didn't try hard enough. I solicited bids via the internet and just picked the lowest.

In any case, I'm happy with the car and the buying experience at Right Honda was almost perfect. The fleet manager was straight forward and courteous - absolutely no game playing. Spent less than an hour at the dealership.

Anyone have any idea what the title/registration/other fees will add to the cost of the car in New York State?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Price sounds good (too good, actually). The invoice for the LX w/auto is $19,034. Even if the dealer was going to get the full $600 incentive that is cheap. There is about $630 of holdback in the car, so

    $19,034 - $600 - $630 = $17,804.

I don't know that the "MVP" fee is or why you should pay it - you also should not have to pay a "credit check fee". Get pre-approved through your bank or credit union and/or through an online place like Capitol1 auto finance. What could happen is they will jack up the rate on you in the F&I office. So watch them. If they give you a competitive rate on a simple iterest loan of the correct term - then sounds like a super deal.

BTW, Jesey Honda in Edison was running the LX autos for $17,500 - but it turns out you had to pay the doc fee ($198) and the destination fee on top of that.

    greggdogg:

As I recall, there is no "Title" fee in NYS. Your title will just show up in the mail in a month or two after you register your vehicle. My NYS Registration Document indicates that my annual charge is $20.75 (plus a vanity plate fee that was my own choice). There are no other NYS fees, as long as you pay the sales tax rate for your county.

Any other "fees" would be of the dealer imposed variety. You should be able to talk them out of any... if they want your business.
  • ilusriniilusrini Member Posts: 6
Well Guys I went to a dealer today i got it for that price... $17,200 (including destination) + mvp $242 + doc fee $198 +tire tax $7.50 and i got the 2.9 APR....

But it was a mistake a sales person did to approve that price, and came to know that the price which she quoted was not realistic.

But since she had documented the figures, they had to honor it, The manager was kind enough to give me that price ... the only thing which i think i paid more is the credit fee which is $52 which i won't mind when i am getting such a deal.

The sales person that I went to today was a really good guy. He could have easily dishonored our quote since we had no deposit on the figures, no agreement, nothing. But today was a good experience.

Let me know if you need more info...

Got the Accord EX V6 w/o Nav today at Oakland Honda for $23,200 including destination charge. They were wiling to throw in the wheel lock and door guard. Fremont Honda gave me the lowest price, but they were not willing to throw in any extras. Dealer told me that Honda increased their price, that is the reason he quoted the higher price. Told me that if he can find one with the old price, I can have it. Didn't seems to be very proactive, so I went somewhere else.

    Hi All:

I am asking for some assistance from our MA. members … I sold my Honda Insight and will be driving it out to MA. for the sale as well as picking up a PZEV based Accord EX-L I4 w/ Auto and NAVI 4-door. I received a solid quote from Chambers Honda in Boston for a Graphite Gray at $23,201 incl. dest. (not a bad price after a 5 minute phone call) but when the Internet sales guy checked his inventory, they had sold their last NAVI and graphite gray was the color they had earlier in the week. I checked the other 2 Chambers Honda dealerships inventory online as did Charlie (the Chamber’s Internet sales person helping me) w/ no NAVI’s of any color available at the other two either. What is up w/ the availability of I4’s w/ NAVI in MA. anyway?

So does anyone know where I can find a Graphite Gray (will settle for Silver although I would prefer not too) PZEV based Accord EX-L I4 w/ Auto and NAVI in MA. at a similar price? If not, I have about 100 phone calls to make into MA. on Monday and Tuesday to find one and I am not to sure I will find what I want at a price similar to what Chambers has offered me already? I would hate to have to make two trips out to MA. (one to deliver my Insight and the other to pick up a PZEV Accord) to finalize the deal.

Are there any strange fees I may not be aware of from the MA. dealerships? Here in IL. it is a std. $55.39 DOC fee, Tax, Title, and License or License Transfer. The TTL are state items so are not negotiable and that is about it.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

I am trying to buy a 2.4 EX-L w/Auto sedan. Here is what I got from internet quote:
21,185 not including destination charge, tax, tag, title and registration.
I think it is not a bad starting price for negotiation. Could anyone comment on this price? Thanks. BTW, I am in Maryland.
