Just purchased a 2005 Honda Accord EX-L sedan with NAVI at Honda Cars of Rock Hill, SC for $23,563. They gave me the HONDA Care Extended Warranty and GAP insurance for $530 and $411 respectively. The car came with wheel-locks and mud-guards as part of the purchase price of the vehicle.

Although my car will not arrive at the dealership until Monday (purchased on Wednesday), they provided my another Accord (LX)to drive until then.

They have been very friendly of course and provided a no pressure environment for me. I am sure that I will return to them when I purchase my next car.

Special thanks to their Internet Team.

    Hi fch1,

The quote I got is from San Leandro Honda. I was wondering if you could provide break up of other fees, like doc, tax and license.

    Thanks

When I recently bought a 2005 Honda Accord Coupe 6-speed w/NAV the financing already had the GAP insurance and the Honda Care, and the roadside assistance and car rental, etc. already built in.

I had to ask them to remove it. I have found on really good products such as a Honda, extended warranties just don't pay. My philosophy is to self-insure whenever I can. MY WARANTY always covers everything, no exclusions!

John Eagle Honda is a presidents level dealership in Houston with great Internet pricing. They also provide free towing, free loaners cars, first 3 oil changes free and car wash with each service. Their customer lounge has free coffee and cappuccino, free wireless Internet access and free hot baked chocolate chip cookies ( bad for my diet).

    YMMV,

    MidCow

P.S. - Remebr on extened warraties three things:

    (1) They have your money up front and are making interest on it. Time value of money costs you about 10% fro two(2) years.
    (2) The extended warranty does not come in to play until the normal factory warranty of 3 years or 36,000 miles expires. So a 5 year 100,00 mile warranty is actually providing you a 2 year 64,000 mile extened warranty, (5-3=2 years, 100,000-36,000+ 64,000 miles)
    (3) Many items are excluded from extended warranties. Read your extended warranty very, very carefully to find out exactly what is and what is not covered.

Looking to get some advice....I think I got a real good deal on a 05 EX AT and wanted to get some opinions. See details below:
Price-18914 (dealer said he would waive the destenation fee.)
    Tax-1134.84 (6%nj)
    Fees-450 nj registration
After all said and done, with the specail 2.9% payments would be 369.24 over 60 months. I have shopped around, and I think this is the best price I will recieve.

I got an email from a Honda dealer stating they are offering 1.9% for 60 months on Accords and Civics.
Is this true nation wide? Or just a hook?
  • midnightcowboymidnightcowboy Member Posts: 1,978
Looks like Honda Financial Services is still at 2.9% through April 04, 2005. Therefore, I am not quite sure how your Honda dealer is providing you 1.9% financing. But, if it is really true that is a great rate!

Honda Finance is only offering 2.9%.. The dealer can offer you 1.9% by buying down the interest rate with Honda Finance.. It probably costs them somewhere between $300-$500, depending on the loan amount..

So, figure your purchase price to reflect that..

Going to pick it up tomorrow. Hopefully, everything goes smoothly.

Anyone purchased one of these in the Lehigh Valley/North East PA area? Looking for costs in this area. Do costs vary greatly between cities? I have used Edmunds for their pricing - is it accurate? Can anyone tell me what I should be paying?

So I picked up my Nighthawk Black EX V6 yesterday aftenoon from Wilde Honda in Waukesha WI. Best car buying experience I've ever had - I did all my price shopping on-line, went in, drove a couple of cars, spent 15-20 minutes on paperwork and drove away in my new Accord.

The sales staff and financing team were great. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the region.

Can you tell us what you paid for your vehicle?
If you do, please do not include tax, fees, or registration. Any accessories included in your purchase price?

Thanks for posting your experience. Did you drive and compare the Camry to the Honda before you purchased the Accord? If so, how did you find the Camry?

    Wayne,

Do these prices include the $515 destination charge?

I have a test drive Monday with the Interent Sales guy. Want an EX-L Coupe MANUAL. I will otherwise after the test drive send out emails requesting "best and final offers", but I thought it would be right to let this dealer take their best shot first. Goal price is $300 over invoice, provided they show invoice to me, and I am willing to go $500 just to get it over with.

Am I offering too much for the car?
IS this a reasonable way to get the deal done at a fair price? I figure my time has value, so spending two weeks nickle-and-diming dealers to death would be a waste.

BTW, I am in the St Louis area, and would probably do the email thing to dealers from KC to Chicago.

Any input would be most appreciated. I will return with final figures and experience for your future reference. THANKS!

The best prices I have seen on this forum are from Grand Honda in the Chicago area. Do a google search for "grand Honda". Some of their prices are $1000 below invoice. I do not know how they do it and I can't say I have heard of anyone getting the low price but you sure should try. They are located in a suburb of Chicago. Please let us know how you come out with them.

Once again thanks to all who post. I'm usually a lurker. Price to be paid for lurking is to post what I purchased. Not the best deal but a fair deal. 19,000.60 Out the door, Va.tx incl.(Prince William county)Internet dept. Koons --Honda, Manassas. Absolutely no trouble. Faxed quote. NO Trade. Thanks

    Hi Fredvh:

Yes, these prices include the $515 destination fee. If you look around the Accord Prices Paid … forum, Grand Honda can beaten at almost every turn with some persistence. Look at King_bt’s Accord deal out of Wilde Honda in Waukesha, WI. Just another great price found in the Chicago/Milwaukee metropolitan area.

can you tell me the out of door price if I assume tax is 6.25%. i am really not sure is this the real price or they trying to get customers in door. Is there anyone who brought from Grand Honda?--Bye

From what I can tell, the invoice price for your car is about $18400. When you add on $515 for transportation and 3.1% VA sales and $50 for tag/title, it looks like you got the car for about $600 under invoice. That sounds like a good deal to me.

Did you just ask Koons for a quote and they gave you a price like that? It sounds almost too simple.

Anyone have an idea of how low I can go for this car? I'm located in Ontario, CA but willing to travel all over LA/San diego area to get best price. Can I compete with these quotes from other areas of the nation? Not willing to pay for any dealer add-ons, will get my gap and ext. warranty online, going 0 down 2.9% financing...

    Hi Shyam:

The only item I know about Grand Honda here in the Chicago area is that they are the third largest seller of Honda’s so someone is buying them by the truckload …

In regards to tax rates, I believe the rate in all of the collar counties is 6.5% which is where I assume you reside? In the city proper, it is even higher!

Took a delivery of 2005 Accord 2.4 EX-L with no other options at the previously quoted price of $21,988 + TTL in Houston, TX.

Took care of everything over the Internet and just picked up the car from the dealership. Pleasant experience, got 2.9% Honda Financing, no "pushing" for additional stuff.

My experience was that the small(er) city dealerships could not match quotes anywhere close to the big city (i.e. Dallas and Houston) dealerships.

As a matter of fact, 2 Central Texas dealerships could not believe the price and gave me a spiel how something had to be wrong with it.

However, doing the research on Edmunds.com helped me a great deal get the price in the range ($21.7k - $22.0k)at which I was willing to buy. The other places were about $1.5k - $1.7k higher and would not go down. Also, they were saying that at that price the dealer was losing money. Even though I think I got a better than just a decent deal, I cannot imagine that the dealer lost money on me.

Thanks to everyone posting the quotes here and helping out get the best possible deals available.

    bobst,
I have purchased alot of cars and I can say this was the easiest and smoothest. I was purchasing the car for a friend in DC area who had never purchased a car before. There were no hitches in finance or anywhere else. The car was delivered as quoted(written, faxed)to the person actually buying it. The lady in the internet sales dept. was superb. I spoke with the F&I fellow and there was no pressure for ext warranties or service plans as requested. I live down South and it not very easy to purchase a car without being there. This was. I was always waiting for something to go wrong. Never did. Hat's off to Koon's Honda.

    Hi All:

I do not know about areas other then Chicago but Honda is offering a $0 - $600 Factory to Dealer incentive for those dealerships hitting sales targets (whatever that means?) on new 05 Accord’s now. The 2.9% is still available on top of this of course.

What Houston dealer did you buy from? Goodson and Gillman didn't want to deal. Goodson was the worst "noboby beats a Gooson deal" is a real line of ... The absolute best price was Russel-Smith, but they are small and had a really sloppy looking service area. I ended up buying from John Eagle Honda because the are a president's level Honda dealer, are a lsrge dealer, and have excellent service and other dealer benefits: loaner cars, car washes, first three oil changes free, excellent customer area.

Also, I ended up getting an excellent deal on a black Accord Coupe 6-speed with Nav.

    Thanks,

    gevans17, as per your request - see post #s 6853 & 6854 on 3/9/05.

"Please let us know if you purchase the car from Open Road at the quoted price, or if you can get a local dealer to match it."

Here you have it. I took delivery of my 2005 Accord Sedan LX I-4 Automatic Tranmsmission on Saturday 3/12/05.

I used Open Road Honda's Internet quote price as my bargaining point and a local dealer (Dobbs Honda) in Arizona matched the price.

The selling price of the vehicle was:
    $17,585 + 515 (destination)
    That was $934 under invoice!!!

    Total = $18,100 + TTL.

The dealer included pin stripe, splash guards and wheel locks at no extra charge...usually retails for about $200.

Deal went down very smootly, no presure whatsoever from the salesman.

Car runs great....BTW, I've got the payments, my wife's enjoying the new ride!!!

Thanks to everyone for your input and tips on this forum...it was very helpful.

It was actually Goodson West where I got the best price. Also, John Eagle was right there but I did not need all the nice extras they offer since I live in Austin and would not drive to Houston for oil changes and car washes.

Not sure who you spoke at Goodson, but the guy I spoke with was excellent. Easy to deal, matched the price, threw in some extras to "sweeten" the deal.

Went there Saturday, spent about an hour total (test drive, credit app., etc.) and drove away.

Did you get the extended warranty? I was offered one but declined since every new Honda owner can wait until 2 yrs/24,000 mile period (of course, there is always a risk on the price going up).

Dealt primarily with Goodson North. I was getting the 6-speed Accord Coupe w/NAV and they kept telling me it was a special order item and that they would match my best price. They tried a "strong arm tactic" that I wouldn't go for. They called me up one night and told me they were putting their order allocation in for the month and that I had to give them a deposit immedaitely that night or I would miss the order window; I kept asking thier price. But then they wouldn't give it too me and when they finally did it turned out to be one of the higher prices.

I did not get the extended warranty. Also did not get Gap insurnace and the extras they were going to add to the financing.

I am very, very pleased with the car and the delaership. Hope you like yours.

    Cheers,

    MidCow

P.S.- I'll be in Austin Sunday April 17 with my 2-wheel transportation. Finishing MS150, pretty good for an ole' amn.

Thanks for the feedback. Something must be up with factory to dealer incentives....I just received an internet quote of $17,850 including destination for 4 dr LX automatic. Offer says "this month only, take advantage of an extra $600 in savings on all 2005 Accords"

Now if I can only get my local dealer to budge, I can save some fre qflyer miles!!
  • croatmcroatm Member Posts: 5
My coworker here is dealing with Goodson-West on her new Pilot and she is getting a great feedback (same guy I dealt with).

It could have been just one bad apple @ Goodson North.

I was offered those same packages as you were, but did not take any as they were adding a considerable amount to my monthly payment.
  • rvadikrvadik Member Posts: 11
Yes, you are offering too much.
It looks from this forum that a decent deal is at $1000 below invoice. That is what you get just by emailing for quote to a few dealers.

A really good deals are at $1500 - $1800 below. Those you do need to nickel an dime the dealer, and spend some time (4-5 hours) at the dealership.
But if you are willing to pay the extra, and save some time, you should with no significant effort get about $1000 below invoice (that price would include a destination charge, excluding tax and license).
Good luck, I hope this helps.

Wayne, your posts are always interesting and informative. I've been shopping for an Accord for a while but the local dealers are not "dealing." I can get a better deal in Phoenix. I was quoted $23640 for the 05 Accord EXL 4 cyl 5 speed with navi and $24359 for the AT, not any where near RX330's $22,300 a few weeks ago, plus about $300.00 to ship it to me 450 miles from Phoenix. This is invoice price, locally the best I've been offered is $500.00 over invoice. Additionally the 5 speed navi EXL 4cyl is hard to find. Some time ago you posted some information about the gas mileage of the AT I4 and how the navi can help. According to the sticker the 5 speed will get a few more mpg's in town but the same on the hi way. I'm thinking the way I drive I might get less in town with the manual. Thanks for any input!!
  • xcelxcel Member Posts: 1,025
    Hi Jpla49:

It looks like the Phoenix dealerships are trying to hit you for invoice at best which is sad given the way Accord sales are falling off. Have you considered that great price - California based Honda dealership (Freemont IIRC) instead? I know they have offered darn good deals in the past. Check this forums posts from around Christmas of last year to find out the name of the exact dealership. With the new $600 FTD incentive, I am sure they will be willing to play ball at ~ $1,200 - $1,500 under invoice if the FTD incentive is offered in the California’s as well? Do not forget that you are guaranteed a PZEV with its much longer emissions warranty and much cleaner automobile if you take the automatic equipped Accord out of California. I believe you can pick up a PZEV out of AZ. as well but only if you can find a dealership that is willing to deal?

Yes, the 5-speed stick will achieve a bit better FE in the city but it will not help on the highway other then for a special hypermiling technique called Force-Autostop from higher speeds. You can safely perform the technique with the stick but not the Auto. Forget that for now … Remember that you will eventually sell your Accord someday and a stick is a much tougher sell then the Auto let alone the fact that the Auto is a much nicer driver if you hit any kind of inner city traffic congestion. I too debate the stick/auto but when it comes down to the most relaxed driver and similar FE, the Auto wins in my book although those chasing performance (Midcow, you apply), the stick is much more lively. If the stick fits, save the initial up front cost but make sure you know the caveat’s before hand is all.

As for the NAVI, the Accord’s NAVI has an FCD (Fuel Consumption Display) with both an instantaneous and an averaging display. A few other niceties are included ;-) Although not nearly as detailed and feature rich as the Honda Hybrid’s, the Instantaneous is what you will use to improve your own FE and the Accord’s NAVI - FCD is just as good as that in the Insight or HCH for that purpose. Do not consider purchasing the NAVI just for the FCD however as you will never recover the $1,800 in fuel savings. The NAVI in the Honda/Acura’s is just so nice for everything else and the FCD in the NAVI equipped Accord (the TL’s w/ NAVI do not have the FCD for some reason?) is an added bonus that many do not even know about. I am sure you will love it.

Before I sign off for the night, RX330’s $22,200 deal for the 05 I4 based EX-L w/ Auto and NAVI was a one off special. The Honda dealership (O’Hare Honda here in Chicago) made a pricing mistake (manual instead of an auto) so he basically received the Auto for free. I do not think we will see a deal like that until the end of the year when Honda will be offering the $1,300 FTD (or more this year) incentive like they did at the end of last.

    Good Luck

Don't feel bad if the deals you are being offered are not as good as the deals other people talk about. The cars belong to the dealers and they can decide on the prices.

On the other hand, you can decide how much to offer. If you think your dealers should be selling the cars for less, then make an offer and see what happens.

We are looking for an EX sedan with a manual trans, and two local dealers offered an OTD price of invoice + tax + ttl.

My wife and I will probably go out in a few days and offer a few hundred less than that and see what happens.
  • joezepijoezepi Member Posts: 1
I've just attempted to use the $600 factory to dealer incentive on an EX Auto Sedan and was told that the FTD incentive was on coupes only. A car salesman wouldn't lie to me, would he?

They're quoting $20,944 on an auto, 4 cyl EX sedan, + TTL.
  • xcelxcel Member Posts: 1,025
    Hi Joezepi:

I only know what was posted in last Sunday’s Chicago Tribune. The FTD incentive of $0 - $600 depending on sales targets was for the Chicagoland area and on all Accord’s, not just the coupes according to the incentive list. I do not know if this is a nationwide incentive? Leave your name and number with the dealer and let him think about it for a while. The EX price quote you received is a very competitive one from what I have seen in this forum but that extra $600 would sure make it a deal topper ;-)

    Good Luck

Edmunds says the $500 incentives only apply to the coupes.
  • donegaldonegal Member Posts: 49
I agree. Make an offer that you feel comfortable with and see what happens. Just purchased an EX V6 Auto w/Nav for $26,198. The NADA guide shows an invoice price on this vehicle of $25,956 plus destination of $515 for a total of $26,471.
  • markinphxmarkinphx Member Posts: 37
I also have just begun to stake out the market and poke my nose into the dealers business.

I little poking and proding has also turned the same result here in Phoenix AZ, the dealers are stating that the $600 dealer cash is only on the 2-doors, they say 4-doors do not apply at this time and are not offering a future outlook.
  • markinphxmarkinphx Member Posts: 37
I am also just starting to explore the Phoenix market.

First thing to note is that all dealers in the metro area are gonna stick it to you with "dealer doc fee" of $275-$300, wich is darn steep.

Also the cheapest tax can be found in Mesa, 7.8%.

I am in the market for an LX, I dont think I could ever own an automatic car so a stick is also what I am searching for.

So far things have gone fairly smooth, called the Tempe dealer and Mesa dealer. They both put out a figure of $17,900 for a stick car over the phone with very little discussion. KBB shows invoice at $18,225 for a stick LX.

I was also quoted over the phone $18,595 for an LX auto from Tempe. KBB has invoice at $18,944.

So they are dealing out the LX cars $300 under invoice on first phone contact.

Maybe we can double up on a dealer and get a better deal, see how low they will go if offer to take 2 cars off their lot at once.

My quote on a 2005 Accord 4 dr sedan says"this month only, take advantage of an extra $600 in savings on ALL Accord models" .............nothing here about just for coupes!!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. I will get aggressive and email several dealers in the region to see if I can get them into a bidding war. BTW, one local dealer is the one price dealership, no haggling pricing. They want $24998 for an 05 Accord EXL 4 AT with navi. I believe that's it for them, they wont negotiate. I contacted the internet manager and he basically told me that price is final. Has anybody had the pleasure of "negotiating" the price at these no haggle one price dealers?
  • jpla49jpla49 Member Posts: 13
In addition to a quote I've asked the dealer about any Honda incentives available. Let's see if any of them mention the $600.00 FTD.
