Hey - I got this from Open Road Honda last night in Edison NJ for an Accord Auto LX - seems pretty similar to yours. What's the catch? A dealer I am in touch with on Long Island is convinced something is not right with these numbers - he says it is not realistic - but, he said if it is real to jump on it as fast as possible....

    VEHICLE SELLING PRICE: $17,603
    --------------------------------------
    + Destination: $515.00
    + Options: $0.00
    - Trade Value: $0.00
    --------------------------------------
    TOTAL VEHICLE SELLING PRICE: $18,118
    --------------------------------------
+ Sales Tax: $1494.74 (Manhattan tax rate)
    + Documentation: $198.00
    + Motor Vehicle: $155.00
    + NJ Tire Fee: $7.50
    + Trade Payoff: $0.00
    --------------------------------------
    TOTAL PRICE: $19,973.24

Yeah, all of these price figures can be very confusing.

Here is what I have decided to do:

    1) Decide exactly the kind of car I want.

    2) Send Emails to the local dealers asking for their out-the door price for the car I want.

3)Then I may just go the dealer with the lowest price and buy the car or we may walk into our favorite dealer with our checkbook and make an offer and see if they will accept it.

We live just south of Washington D.C. If we don't get as low of a price as the dealer in Chicago, that's OK.

In the past, we have paid about invoice + trans + $250 + tax + tag/title for our Hondas, but, from what I read in this DG, the prices are lower these days. We will find out in a few weeks.

The main thing is to get a car that you like. Be sure to read about the many problems with the new Hondas, like the poor directional stability, and take the car for a thorough test drive.

On the test drive, I suggest going without a salesman or ordering the salesman to stay perfectly quiet for the entire drive.

    Edmunds - TCO: guesses otherwise...

    I'm guessing they are wrong..

Ask a used car salesman... LX-V6 are hard to move...

Do you have any idea what the "Value Package" is? Would it apply to just the LX?
  • fredvhfredvh Member Posts: 857
What is this "poor directional stability" that you are talking about? Does this concern the Accord?

    Hello,
I have starting to do my homework and understanding much more. Here is the way I am calculating the right price to pay:

The facts for a Honda Accord LX Auto - no option.
    MSRP: 20,575 (w/o Destination charge)
    Invoice: 18430 (may vary slightly)
CarsDirect: 18234 incl Destination charge. (I tried this last night)
CarsDirect: 17719 (removing the $515 dest. charge to compare apples and apples)
Assumption1: Carsdirect is the most aggressive published direct price you can find.
Assumption2: They must still make money (but not much)
I am assuming they are making $500 per car maximum:
You can bargain with the dealer to split (say 50%) the type of margin CarsDirect would make if you buy from them rather than from the dealer. The LOGICAL sales price (before destination, tax, lic, docs,...) to pay becomes:
    sale Price = $17719-(50%x$500) = $17469

So there is no catch (my guess) looking at the quote you got. Your dealer is still making more, than I am suggesting, about 400 some dollars at least on the car.

Conclusion: This is only based on my simple logical understanding sofar (but again buying car is more an art than a science...). But at your prices we know it is already a very agressive deal and a win-win for you and the dealer apparently.
    I'd go for it!
    My 2cents

Thanks. I just noticed that CarsDirect Price went down about $500 since yesterday. That helps explain things I guess.

I bought an Accord LX automatic for $17845 (including destination charge) about a month ago in Los Angeles area. I figured it was about $1k below invoice and I wondered how the dealer could make any money out of it... now that it seems to be $500-$1000 below invoice quotes are farily standard. I'm pretty sure that there is some kind of incentives to the dealer which we haven't noticed...

    Hi Fch1:

These are the prices one would pay for the Accord Trim as specified when you buy it from that dealership. The only item missing is TTL and a $55.39 DOC fee.

    Good Luck

    Hi Kyfdx:

I agree wholeheartedly. The I4 is the best deal both in the short and longer terms.

With that, the TCO is a number you can use for comparison. The I4’s have lower TCO’s then the V6’s of similar trim.

    Good Luck

    Lardobaby,
I bought the vehicle from Sierra Honda (near the intersection of freeways 210 and 605). See my previous post #6609 for the break down of the cost. Good luck!

I am about to talk numbers with some of the dealers. I wanted to get a feel of what other people have paid for the car. Any help is appreciated! I am in Philly by the way. Anyone from the area who could respond would definitely HELP A LOT!

Accord EX V-6 - MSRP of 27,293 - quoted discount of 2,676 - Price before tax, tags, etc. would be 24,617.
  • bzekebzeke Member Posts: 13
I just paid an out-the-door price of $23,200 for a 2005 LX-V6. That price includes PA sales tax and tags. I also got 2.9% for five years. I believe I could have done a little better if I was a bit more patient. The LX-V6 is a great deal if you do not want leather and a moon roof.
  • lcc27lcc27 Member Posts: 3
What dealer did you go to? Did you get any options?
  • accordbuyindfwaccordbuyindfw Member Posts: 4
Well I finally bought the EX-V6 w/o Nav for $26100 Drive out. It had about $1000 worth of dealer options that I didn't really care for. I have a feeling I could have gone lower if I had tried hard enough.

Thanks everyone for all your help..
Right now I am just enjoying the car..

    :)

No dealer options. As for the dealer, it was in the Harrisburg area. I got similar pricing at three dealers. Also, make good use of each dealers internet pricing. It saves a lot of time and hassles.

Gerdes. Thanks for the post about Honda prices at Grand Honda in Chicago. Are the prices for all Hondas in stock or the usual bait and switch technique: "one at this price."
  • cutmeistercutmeister Member Posts: 14
    accordbuyindfw,
I'm in the Dallas market for the same car, would you please let me know which dealer did you end up working with?
    How was the buying experience?
What kind of options did you get?
Would you mind if you break down the price for us?
    Thanks and congratulations!

Received a new internet quote today from Open Road in NJ. $17,503, down $400 from last week. Anybody know whats up? Is this legit?? I live 800 miles away, but I thinking "road trip"!
  • gevans17gevans17 Member Posts: 27
Would supposedly include automatic transmission and factory installed air conditioning. Even the dealers here dont know yet what else will be included on the Accord VP ,or what the price will be. VP will fill the gap between DX and LX Accords. They are scheduled for arrival late March.

Which Atlanta dealers offered you the best deals??
    Thanks
  • barry70barry70 Member Posts: 20
I got the same quote from Open Road. Add $515 to that for destination, add taxes (NYC for me), then add $198 doc fee and $155 for DMV. Finally, $7.50 for NJ Tire Fee.

    Total is $19,864.99. Pretty impressive....
  • rodgers7rodgers7 Member Posts: 13
The most competitive Atlanta dealers were Carey Paul Honda and Gwinnett Place Honda.
  • srinivassrinivas Member Posts: 4
Hi liaison, $22300 seems to be a little higher than what u can usually get it for. Price range of $21700 - 21900 is a good bargain. (Assuming you are talking about 2005 Honda Accord EX Automatic Transmission, with Leather and NO Navigation System. That includes the $515 destination fee.
  • gevans17gevans17 Member Posts: 27
I think Open Road's quote is BOGUS....they refused to put quote in writing, citing "privacy concerns".
  • barry70barry70 Member Posts: 20
See my Post #6808. They emailed me the quote (when it was $100 higher) with all the fees, taxes, etc... I think it is legit. And I spoke to them on the phone. But, I guess who knows until someone actually goes there and buys it at the price they gave.

I bought it from the Lute Riley Honda in Richardson.

The buying experience was pretty good except for the haggling. I had been communicating with the sales person through email and had met him earlier when I went there to get a brochure.
He was very relaxed and not pushy at all.

Here's the breakup..I am still a little confused how they break it up..

I got them to agree at drive out price, After which,I added a few options, warranty etc.

    $26,100 drive-out
    0 down
    No trade in.
EPP package for 499 + tax
    Extended warranty for 886

The total came down to about 27517.

The Dealer has some options installed on all their cars... so I got them too..
    The dealer options included
    1> 2 yr environment package .. something.
    2> hand painted stripes
    3> Cargo tray

There were other things as well that I just can't think at the top of my head.
Will post a follow up when I remember them.

BTW, I had a lower price quote from a dealer in Houston (25.6K drive-out), and hence I was able to get lute riley to lower their price. They did not match it and since I needed to buy the car this weekend and was unable to go to Houston, I bought it here itself.

    Good Luck.

Anyone have any experience buying a hybrid Accord?

Xcel (Wayne) noted that they were advertised at $26,895 in the Chicago area. Is that real? Out here in Oregon they seem to be above list. (CarsDirect $32,155)
  • viveksviveks Member Posts: 17
What will be a good price for 05 Accord LX with automatic transmission. So far the lowest I got is $18080, which seems a little high to me. This is before any tax or anything else, but includes destination charge.

If it would make any difference I'm looking in Bay area.

    Thanks!
  • xcelxcel Member Posts: 1,025
    Hi Two42nite:

That is what Grand Honda was listing it for last week. The Shreveport, LA. Honda dealership was at invoice ($27,495) and Vern Eide Honda/MB out in Sioux Falls, SD. was at $27,988.

    Good Luck

A dealer giving me a good quote on an Accord EX V6 is really pushing their "first place finish" which is a teflon polymer coating.

    In their words:

"The first place finish is a teflon polymer coating that is heated and hand applied to the vehicle to protect it from the effects of acid rain, bird droppings and tree sap which are acidic by nature. Also, Honda's paint process takes 4 months to cure. The first place finish allows the paint to cure for a 1 year period of time which allows for better paint integrity over the life of the vehicle. The benefit to you is higher resale value."

Now, I'm thinking this is all probably a bunch of BS. Does anyone think this is worth paying for?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,279
NO, NO, and, did I say.. NO?

4 months to cure.. I'm sure Honda would love to hear about one of their dealers saying this about their paint finishes...

Let me guess... They want $299 for this glorified wax job?

Is there a Manufacturer-to-Dealer incentive on the Honda Accord? If so, how much is it if anyone knows?
  • ezpassezpass Member Posts: 10
Just bought a 2005 Accord EX-V6 with navi and xm radio, the dealer tried to sell me glass etching with the VIN# for $699 and the special polymer treatment for $399. He did mention acid rain but not the 4 month curing process for Honda 's factory paint operations.

I guess the salesman are all a like- Hold on to your wallet!
  • srinivassrinivas Member Posts: 4
A sales manager in a dealership in Maryland told me that the dealership usually gets the car for about 4% below the so called invoice price. This is where dealers make their money and 'the best deal' (below invoice price) that you can get depends on how much of that percentage the dealer is willing to give up to sell the car !

Obviously, if the dealers are selling the car for $1000 below invoice, that percentage should be much more than 4% ;)
  • fredvhfredvh Member Posts: 857
Thanks srinivas for the information. I see on this forum that some are getting $1000 off of invoice and I cannot understand how a dealer can do that unless there is some manufacturer-to-dealer incentive that we are not aware of. But, it has happened here before that the deals posted are not always accurate. Thanks again.
  • lorryfanlorryfan Member Posts: 76
Viveks - That's actually a good price. Now does the $18080 price you were quoted inclusive of the destination charge? If it is, then it's a super deal. What's the name of the dealership in the Bay area you got the quote from? Can you post it out?

I got a quote from Open Road Honda (Edison, NJ) (www.openroadhonda.com)

See below for the quote I received.

    VEHICLE SELLING PRICE: $17,503.00
    --------------------------------------
    + Destination: $515.00
    + Options: $0.00
    - Trade Value: $0.00
    --------------------------------------
    TOTAL VEHICLE SELLING PRICE: $18,018.00
    --------------------------------------
    + AZ Sales Tax @ 7.6%: $1369.67
    + Documentation: $198.00
    + Motor Vehicle: $155.00
    + NJ Tire Fee: $7.50
    + Trade Payoff: $0.00
    --------------------------------------
    TOTAL PRICE: $19,474.37
    --------------------------------------

Now I read on this forum that Open Road Honda prices may be BOGUS. The internet/Fleet manager actually called me and they also emailed me the price quote. I live in Arizona, so I may have to get the car delivered......

I think I will be in a good position to purcahse if I find similar prices in California...
  • gevans17gevans17 Member Posts: 27
Please let us know if you purchase the car from Open Road at the quoted price, or if you can get a local dealer to match it.

    viveks,
    I can help you.
A- I think you are getting a decent deal.
B- I negotiated and bought an 05 Honda Accord LX AUTO last week for:
    PURCHASE: $17800 destination charge included
(this is before tax, doc, license)
and yes I am in the Bay Area. I bought from Stevens Creek Honda in San Jose.

Note that this week, prices are falling again for the LX.
  • viveksviveks Member Posts: 17

I've been communicating with the Internet Sales staff at Honda dealers in the Milwaukee area - lowest quoted price for an EX V6 (every color in stock) is $23,283 plus TTL (includes destination charges). I am meeting with them this morning.

    Hi King_bt:

Sounds like an excellent price on the EX V6. Was it the Honda dealership in Racine, WI. that gave you the best quote? They punched out a great quote for a member here about 3 weeks ago on an EX-L w/ NAVI.

    Good Luck

No - actually Waukesha. Just got back after driving the 4cyl, V6, and HAH. Put a deposit down on the V6 w/o Navi - going with black.

Had a great experience with the staff there, starting with the Internet Sales Staff, to the gentleman that I worked with in the dealership, to the business manager. Would definitely recommend.
