Cleaner emissions? I'm fine with that but why aren't all the Hondas manufactured this way? Is it more expensive to produce a PZEV, if so wouldn't that be passed onto the consumer? What other advantages does a PZEV have?
  • richards38richards38 Member Posts: 606
My guess is that there is some added hardware needed for the Accord to qualify for PZEV status--the retail price for PZEV was an additional $150 when I bought my '04 Accord EX-L sedan (4 cyl).

I think PZEV was the only way my car was sold in California and in a few other states.

PZEV was not standard in most states and non-PZEV cars were $150 cheaper at retail.

I'm not aware of any performance differences. My car runs flawlessly and gas mileage ranges from 22.6 in the city to 33.2 on the highway--quite good for a 3,200 pound car with more than adequate power.....Richard

    Hi Bobst:

The $0 - $600 FTD incentive is not the older $500 incentive for the Accord Coupe’s but is something new I saw last weekend in the Chicago Trib’s Sunday - Auto section.

    Hi Jpla49:

At the prices you are being quoted in the Mesa/Phoenix area, are you sure you are not willing to travel to NM. or CA. for a much lower price? I have seen 4-door 05 LX’s w/ Auto go out at less then $18K on both coasts and the Midwest. The I4 based EX-L w/ Auto and NAVI is available in the Chicago area for ~ $23,500 - $23,800 not including the latest round of the $0 - $600 FTD incentive.

In regards to the PZEV, it is a $150 up-charge but boy is it worth it in terms of the 150,000 mile Emissions warranty and the fact the 05 PZEV based Accord is actually cleaner emissions wise then every hybrid on the planet (Prius I and II, non-PZEV HCH, FEH, AH, and Insight) other then the PZEV based HCH which it is tied with.

    Good Luck

I just bought the car Saturday and I must say it kicks my Mazda 626's butt..BIG TIME!!! I love my car :) I am still getting use to the keyless entry and power locks...i know it sounds stupid. My 626 did not have this! Having these items is a luxury for me ;) Anyways, there was no haggling to be done, deal took about 5 mins but the paperwork was another story (2.5 hrs total)! Paid about 23K after sales tax. It helped that I knew the salesman..small world!

Does anyone know if the PZEV cars have a longer emissions warranty?

    They do.

I live in NM and attempting to shop in Phoenix. Dealers in Albuquerque are not moving on price. Best price in Abq is $500.00 over invoice. I can get invoice in Phoenix plus about $300.00 to ship. The other dealer in Abq is quoting $24998 for 05 Accord EXL AT with navi both these prices are significantly more than what I've seen on the posts. I asked for quotes from the Chicago area as well but have yet to find a dealer willing to sell for less than invoice. Where you guys get these prices is beyond me!!
  • xcelxcel Member Posts: 1,025
    Hi Jpla49:

Here in Chicago, Grand and O’Hare Honda are both willing to compete for your $’s at many hundreds to a thousand under invoice on Accord’s. Probably less now since the $0 - $600 FTD has been announced. In Milwaukee, Wilde Honda of Waukesha will do the same. If you need a link to their specific web sites, I can provide them but you can find them through Honda.com directly if you want to go that route. Given your location, I would attempt to deal through the Fremont California Honda dealership myself for the PZEV given it is much closer … I saw that this Fremont California dealerships name was “Autowest” when looking at the past posts we talked about a page or two ago.

    Good Luck

After getting e-quotes from most of the dealers mentioned in this forum for an 05 Accord LX Automatic sedan, Wilde Honda in Wisconsin is the best price by far. Price is 17,828 +89 + tax, title and license. Price includes $600 FTD incentive thru the end of March on ALL Accords.
And Wayne, thanks for the info on Wilde.

When we bought Accords in the 90's, we offered about $100 over invoice on several occasions and were turned down. We would then walk out, and the salesman would not come after us.

Therefore, we learned it would take at least $200 or $300 over invoice to buy an Accord, and we figured we would offer that much for a 2005.

However, after hearing all of your experiences, we offered much less (invoice - $300 + tax + ttl) for an EX manual sedan yesterday, and, to our surprise, they accepted. That price also included wheel locks, mud flaps, pin stripes, and two additional keys (for a total of 5 keys).

At first they did not accept our price, so we left and started to get in our car. The salesman then came out and said they would accept it.

The salesman was extremely nice during the whole process, but the sales manager didn't seem to like us at all.

All of your postings probably saved us $600 or more, so THANK YOU ALL very much.

By the way, we live in Fairfax County, Virginia.

One last thing: we love the car. It is much, much nicer than our 1999 model.

What is the "dealer doc fee" over at the Midwest dealers?

    Grand, Ohare, and Wilde???
  • ev12ev12 Member Posts: 9
Take this for whatever you wish:
According to O'Hare Honda, "nobody in the Midwest will honor Grand Honda's prices". The O'Hare internet manager told me Grand is being sued for buying damaged vehicles from Honda and selling them without notice. He told me that law requires disclosure for damage over $600, and that Grand is selling damaged cars over and under that number without notice. He further stated that one will not find a deal on an EX-L for 21,000 anywhere. Fact or fiction, who knows?

    Hi jpla49,

Go to Showcase Honda in Phoenix. I was going to buy from them, but a local dealer in Tucson (Dobbs Honda) beat the Phoenix dealer by $100, and also saved me from driving to Phoenix. The sales tax in Tucson is 7.6%. I bought my LX lastweek Saturday.

Showcase agreed to $18,100 including destination charge; with window tints, wheel locks and mud/splash guards at NO EXTRA cost for the 2005 Accord LX I-4 with automatic transmission.

I can give you the internet/fleet manager's name and phone number if you are interested and tell him I reffered you....

    Good Luck...

congrats on the new purchase! I'm a month into my EX6 and loving it. Which dealer did you end up going with? And, if you don't mind, can you let us know how you communicated with them (email/live).

    Thx!

    Ev12:

That is interesting. RX330 had a lower quote from both O’Hare and Wilde then from Grand so he jumped on them. The O’Hare quote was a mistake however as they priced a stick and let RX330 take the Auto ;-) If you follow the prices paid here, Grand is beat on most that purchase to the lowest common price. Grand is ~ $1,000 below invoice which is seen here week after week from dealers all over the country.

As for the other items, Grand has a section listing Honda purchased automobiles from Honda auctions about every third week. I haven’t quoted those because they didn’t sound right to begin with given it is a Honda auction for brand new 03’s - 05’s? I wonder if these are the automobiles he is talking about? Grand does differentiate the new Accord’s and those purchased at the Honda auction in their weekly ads when they do run them.

    Good Luck

we offered much less (invoice - $300 + tax + ttl)

Did your offer include the $515 destination charge ? or did you get away with that as well?
Sounds like a good deal either way

I'm very close on buying my first Accord EX V6 - but each time I test drive a GLX Passat I get second thoughts about the Accord though!!

What's a fair monthly leasing payment for a 2005 Honda Accord EX 4dr Sedan w/Leather (2.4L 4cyl 5A) MSRP $24,600, Invoice price = $22,136, destination charge $515, tax = 6.75%, 3yr lease, 12,000 miles/year. I live about 25 miles west of Chicago. I'm having trouble finding resdiual value and money factor. It seems to me this was much easier to do three years ago.

Just purchased a new 05 Accord EX L I4 Auto from Wilde Honda in Milwaukee. The price quote by email was honored, $21316 plus TTL. The dealer was exceptionally easy to work with.
  • gevans17gevans17 Member Posts: 27
I agree. Grand was $400 higher than Wilde and would not match it.............they said it was a mistake. We will see!
  • bobstbobst Member Posts: 1,776
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the $515 for transportation. Yes, we paid invoice + $515 -$300 + tax + ttl.

Rich, we went to Fairfax Honda. To be honest, I wasn't to thrilled with the sales manager or the F&I guy, but our salesman was absolutely wonderful.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
I come up with about $305 using the invoice price you gave as the sale price. On the lease forum, residual and MF were recently posted as 54% and .00113 for the Accord EX.
  • vapatriotvapatriot Member Posts: 2
For those in D.C. area, I just got an Accord EX-L automatic for 22600 OTD at Bill Page in Falls Church. Salesman said there was a price increase recently but he gave me the quote before it took effect so he honored it. (I don't know if this is true or not...Hendrick and Koons came in only slightly higher, but these three gave the best price by far over the net AND with no haggling). Did it all over the net. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. Picking it up tonight. So far, it's all gone smoothly. Assuming no last minute snafus, I would recommend this dealer. No hassle and no pressure (so far!).
  • fredvhfredvh Member Posts: 857
That's a great price for out-the-door. What is the sales tax there?
The MSRP for the Accord EX-L sedan automatic I4 is now $25115. They went up $100 approximately a month ago. The MSRP before the increase was $25,015. You can tell which vehicle you have by the MSRP.
  • vapatriotvapatriot Member Posts: 2
in VA I believe it's 3%. Not sure what the MSRP was (picking up car tonight and have not seen the sticker) but I think I got the old price. the other 2 dealers who came closest were a little more than 100 higher, so I guess that was the new price.

I'm not sure where this is coming from, but it has not been my experience at all. O'Hare is quoting 22,300 + TTL for an 05 Accord EXL and claiming that this is hundreds below invoice. That is not a very good deal. Rather rude and condescending internet manager as well. Wilde has quoted me 21,900 for the same vehicle. Assuming factory invoice is 22,100 or thereabouts, that deal is only 200 below invoice. The best quote I've seen is Grand's advertised price of 21,600 + TTL. Just where are all the fantastic deals?
  • fredvhfredvh Member Posts: 857
For your information the invoice on the EX-L is $22,651. You should not assume what the invoice is before criticizing a dealer's price. O'Hare is absolutely on target when they say that 22,300 is hundreds below invoice($351 to be exact).
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,543
Agreed... and this is below invoice, not MSRP.. Sounds like a fantastic deal to me...

    Ok boys, don't get exited.

Fredvh, I criticized the internet manager for being rude and condescending (which he was), not the dealer for their price. I simply questioned where people are seeing the huge savings being published. And for your information, Carsdirect lists this vehicle at 300 less than O'Hare, and lists invoice at 21,935. Autobytel and others vary from 22,047 to 22,100 for published invoice. Are these sources unreliable? How do you define factory "invoice" price? Does it include destination? Does it vary from dealer to dealer? Do you think its right for O'Hare or anyone to call you a sucker for thinking you can buy a car under THEIR price, when you have quotes for $500 less? I am not an expert. I am only asking questions.
  • buddyboybuddyboy Member Posts: 2
When did Wilde quote you $21900? It may have been before the March discount. I just purchased an 05 Accord EXL auto from Wilde for $21,316 + TTL and got the quote via the internet. They were very good with the whole deal.

I am looking to buy an EX V6 sedan w/o Nav. I live in Oregon but the CA dealers have better prices. I have received conflicting stories about whether I can avoid paying CA sales tax on the purchase. In Oregon there is no sales tax. I heard the law changed recently in CA. Does anyone know how I can avoid CA sales tax (without shipping the vehicle)?

I am looking to buy a 2005 Accord EX 4Cyl Coupe with Navi and am considering to make an offer of around $26,000 OTD. Does this seem reasonable? I live in CA and being such a high volume vehicle along with the $600 factory cash back, think this is possible. Any thoughts?

I do not know how recent the law changed or if it did, however, in July I bought a car in Sacramento and did not pay sales tax - paid it in Colorado.

The way I did it was to have them deliver it to Reno. They drove it and I followed in another car from their dealership and when we got to Nevada we signed papers at a Notary Public and I drove the car back to colorado with no Calif. Taxes. THEY had to drive it to another state for me to get it with out sales tax.

    Hope this helps Stacey
  • bobstbobst Member Posts: 1,776
Here in the D.C. area where many of us cross state lines to work, it is much easier to buy a car in another state. We live in VA, but I have bought two cars in MD. In each case, I paid the tax based on the VA rate.

The only problem was that I had to get the new cars inspected in VA because each state has its own inspection laws.

Showcase Honda in Phoenix qutoed $26125 for an 05 Accord EXL 4cy AT with navi. What a joke. I'll give all of you who have negotiated deals for less than invoice credit. I've tried and failed, and wasted a lot of time on the internet. More power to you, but like I said earlier where you get these price is beyond me....
  • stacey_burkestacey_burke Member Posts: 88
I think this all has to do with location… Last summer I wanted a new Honda accord 6/auto w/navi. I started sending emails to ALL the dealers in our state (Colorado) and they ranged from 28,500 to 27,000 (aprox.). That seemed high compared to the numbers I saw here. We were going to a wedding in San Francisco the next month so on a whim I emailed several dealers in the area and came back with amounts all over the board but settled on one in Sacramento about 1hour away from the wedding. Long story short…. I paid 25,100 out the door (paid sales tax in CO). Drove the car home and it has been great.

My Brother-in-law just went down and paid 24,400 for a 4 without navi – I paid 700 more for the 6 and navigation….

By the way purchase made at Vincel in ST LOuis, MO..ALl Inernet Sales folks for a week sat on invoice, but Vincel had options on the car that the others didnt, and he others wouldnt budge off invoice. Fair transaction and the dealer I bought from last time. I know sales are supposed to be down, but they were crankin em out yesterday when I wne in and today when I took delivery.

PSS--I drove (short test) the BMW 326 and Audi A4..nice cars , thought about leaing them, but I dont need a lable to impress...Pound for pound, dollar for dollar the EXL was a way better choice. I just didnt want to be like everyone else driving a Beemer...After I add the Wing and tinted windows...This will be MY car, not like everyone else's. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

Have you called Tempe and Mesa????

Showacase quoted me real high over the phone also on the LX, I think it was invoice or maybe even a bit over.

I have talking with both and they are both 500-600 blow invoice on an LX.

And that is over the phone, I bet there is a couple hundred more or some freebies waiting for when you walk with cash or as an easy finance qaulifier.

I am telling you, if you are dead set on an Accord we ought to try and bagain as a pair.

But my window is at the end of April.

I am just about to pull the trigger on a '05 Accord Coupe EX V6 Navi Automatic. Local dealer is quoting $24925 ... which I think is fine ... but I would like to get the 100K Honda warranty, and they're quoting $1400. What price are other people paying?

Where are the discounts in Texas? I am looking for a 2005 Accord EX-L-5-Speed and cannot even get a quote of invoice.

Anyone know of a dealer in Texas selling at or below invoice?

    Thanks,

  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
The v6 coupe with NAV and auto invoice is $26,560 including destination and there was already $500 in dealer money to help move the coupes. Honda has now put up to $600 (more, I suppose) in dealer money on all Accords and Civics. By my math that makes dealer cost $25,460. So your price is well below that - unless they are quoting you a price then planning on sticking the destination charge on top of that. Or maybe they are planning on making it up by overcharging you for the warranty?

You can buy HondaCare from any Honda dealer - and get a nice discount from a lot of them. This place (for example) is doing

    http://www.curryhondacare.com/

$1,075 for the $0 deductible 7yr,100k plan and they e-mail you a discount code to take $85 more off. There are other discount HondaCare dealers on the web, so shop around.

Sedan EX-L 4cyl offered 22.1 before TTL is a good deal? Seems some have gone below 21k of an EX-L so I think I'll still shop some
  • gouldngouldn Member Posts: 220
Well, I bought a silver/black '05 Accord EX-L Coupe V6 with Navi. Dealer experience was the fastest of all my car experiences.

I got it for $24825, and and paid $1395 for the 7/100/$0 warranty. Originally they had quoted me $24925, but I asked for $100 of the warranty and they instead took it off the car price.

I know I didn't do as well as possible ($1050) for the warranty, but I wanted to get this done and over with.

No pressure to buy any mop-n-glow, etc. In and out in about 45 minutes.

I got it at the Fremont CA dealer, and can provide details if needed. All the other bay area dealers were about a grand more.

I love the car so far! (6 hours of ownership)

I just requested Internet quotes from Brown's Honda City (Glen Burnie, MD) & Landmark Honda (Alexandria, VA), the latter through carsdirect.com. My Internet quotes, respectively, are $17,795 & $17550; both are below invoice, & do not include TTL, document, & destination. Not a bad starting point for your inevitable dealer negotiations!
  • croatmcroatm Member Posts: 5
    Cusafr,

I got a 2005 Accord Sedan 4 cyl EX-L automatic in Houston for $21,988 + TTL (this was 2 weeks ago). John Eagle Honda and Goodson Honda West had the best quotes and I ended up going with Goodson. Everything done on the internet, just picked up the car from the dealership. They honored everything we agreed to on the phone - in and out from the dealership within 60 minutes (included financing at 2.9%)

    I hope this helps.
