Didn't happen to me, in fact the reverse as I used the internet quote to justify my final price on my Accord. In cancelling your order, did you get your deposit back? I would still pursue the internet quote if there are no other similiar deals in your area - dealing with either the internet manager or highest level of management within the dealership.....Dealer might be able to claim that the internet quote was no longer valid as it was for a car already sold to someone else, a specific car, color, base at that amount but has extras added to total cost, etc...if they don't deal with you and assuming you can get the 22,708 somewhere else - either settle with them with a hopefully a better price on a new order or go to the other dealer and give the losing dealer some grief by sending letters/calls to those that could make their life a little difficult....

Thanks for the info, Lionfan! Now I have another Q: How was the AAA buying program? It hadn't even occurred to me to utylize AAA. See, that's why I love these forums. Anyway...overall experience? Pros/cons? How did you go about getting the extended warranty thrown in?
  • car_crazy1car_crazy1 Member Posts: 43
You can also try the costco/bjs buying program. I heard that the dealerships show the real price for which they bought and they tell us how much profit they are marking on top of that. I learnt it after I bought the car....

Just purchased 2006 Accord EX-L, 4cyl, auto for $22806, including destination, with trunk tray, mud flaps, and all season mats from Frank Ancona Honda in Olathe, KS via their internet service. Admin fee of $189 and taxes extra. Internet salesman was very nice, communicated professionally and respectful. They accepted a very good offer for my trade-in as well. In and out in 1 hour with no hassles. Overall a very pleasant experience. I would highly recommend AVOIDING O'Neill Honda and Jay Wolfe Honda. Their sales staff and sales managers still resort to the kind of tactics that made this site so necessary in the first place. Some businesses will never learn. Thanks to everyone who preceded us with their experiences.

    lionfan1,
How much do you think a 6year/100k mile warranty with 100 dollar deductible might cost outside(I am assuming that yours is not honda warranty) - best guess ?
  • thebillthebill Member Posts: 194
Did you say that you decided not to buy because they werent being discounted????

Well, if you couldnt afford it, I understand, not everyone can. Why not just drop down to a LX and save a few hundred bucks.

But if you didnt buy because Honda doesnt devalue their vehicles by putting on rebates and other garbage, then you need to do more research.
  • stpericstperic Member Posts: 12
I got this price from the Internet Sales Rep directly.

...How much do you think a 6year/100k mile warranty with 100 dollar deductible might cost outside

...not sure about 6yr/100k, but $585 gets a HC (Accord) 6yr/80k/100d

probably never need it (if CU data any good)....

..so we buy a few less bottles of Crown Royal (for additional peace of mind) this year..

    ..ez..

just snagged a really good deal on a 2006 Accord LX Special Edition. Price including destination was 18,926. I ended up paying about 1400 dollars or so worth of Illinois taxes, title, doc, and registration. But this was by far the best deal I was able to get in the Chicago area. 1000 dollars less than dealer invoice! The dealer is located in Crystal Lake, IL and they were very upfront about the price, I didn't have to haggle or anything. I just asked them what the lowest price they could give me was, and they stated it right off the bat. They were really professional in completing the sale and keeping me updated. If anyone is seriously considering buying a new SE. I would highly recommend this dealer if you are anywhere in the chicago area.

Do you think Honda will have any discount / rebate for the Accord on March (as the new Camry 07 come out) ?

    Thanks,
  • badi_boybadi_boy Member Posts: 1
Just got back after completing the deal and driving back the new car. Graphite Pearl Black, a beauty.

Before tax (invoice , dest) 22,659
    OTD: 24,267

Brandon Honda threw in wheel locks, wheel caps, mud gaurds. pin stripe paint, cargo tray/bay (~400).

We went to buy a carbon bronze/black interior that was being shipped and expected in 1 week. This car was on the lot with 87 miles on it. I went there after edmunds internet qoute from Kuhns was 24537. They beat it by $70 and also reduced another 200.

Highly recommend Brandon Honda. They were very professional in dealing with the whole thing. No gimmicks, no frustrations.

    :)

Just had a great buying experience at Grissom Motors in Gadsden, AL. No hassles and no special "package fees" added on. The dealer admin fee (also called the "doc fee") was only $99 (for all cars on the lot). 2006 Honda Accord EX-L (without navigation) including destination fee and doc fee for just under $23,700. Just have to pay TT&L on top of that. No hassles and out the door in less than 90 minutes. Definitely worth driving a few hours to get this deal! Good luck! :)

The very first time happen to me buying a new HONDA 2006 EX without any Hassle, Headache negotiating for the car. I called one dealership outside Houston to get a quote for the car. The invoice price was $21478+TTL with additional option of Rear Wing Spoilier $499 and Moonroof Visor $120 both MSRP price. Total price everything including a 10% employee discount which the sales man gave it to me was $22187. This is the lowest price I ever quoted here without any negotiation process. If you looking for any HONDA outside Houston, I would definitely recommend this sales man that help me. :)

ya look for some lower deals depends on dealership though,, I had a great experience here, check www.normreeveshonda.com they have some really good deals that is where i got my accord 2002 ex v6, it was certified pre-owned everything i was looking for including price, i got it for $13,800.
  • tkirbytkirby Member Posts: 7
I keep reading about dealer admin fees ranging from $100 - $250. What is up with that. I haven't bought a new car in about 6 years, but it seems like a new way for the dealers to increase the price.

Also, anyone get any good deals on a 2006 V6 w/ Leather recently in the Baltimore area?
  • xkiddx13xkiddx13 Member Posts: 122
i dont know about no $100-$250 admin fee, generally there still around 45 dollars... then it again you may be looking at the state and fed taxes...
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,273
They are restricted by statute in California.. and some other states...

$300-$500 is typical in GA and FL.. Any amount that the dealer can break out from the base price makes it seem cheaper to the customer..

It is just a marketing ploy...

Hello: Just a follow-up...I called the Dealer late Monday and explained that me and my wife really didn't want to spend any more on the new car, at least not ~$1600. The salesperson asked "so you want to exchange the EX-L for the EX that you bought?" I said "yeah, $1600 is too much more right now" (hoping he might ask how much I would be willing to spend). I then asked if my car was ready and he said it wasn't, that maybe tomorrow (Tuesday). I called at lunch on Tuesday and it was ready, so I went and swapped out. After I got there, the sales person asked how many miles it had on it and I told him 364...I thought he was gonna blow a gasket. I told him I drove it just as I would have driven the other car...

Anyhow, the only thing I'm not sure about now is whether I really got the V6 Wheels/tires at "Dealer Cost" The wheels were $188 each (sounded about right) but the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires were $204 each...That's from the Tire Distributor but the Pilot Sports A/S that I had on my Passat were only $200 each...Me getting these at cost was part of the deal so if they re-nig...

I just finished swapping the 16" alloys and 15" steels from the DX VP and tomorrow they are supposed to have the wheels and tires and put them on...Anyone interested in a set of 15" steel/hubcaps from DX VP??
    Anyhow...

I just got the EX-L 4 cyl, manual for invoice price or so they told me at the dealer. I went in on Sunday, they offered me $23,255 OTD but I wanted to try another car first before making up my mind. Went back yesterday, they would not honor the price giving me all kind of excuses and trying to play dumb; they did not even know the person who offered me the deal. They guy had told me that he was giving me that price because dealer was getting some kind of incentive. I loved my salesman, hated it the other guys. SOUTH MOTORS HONDA in the Miami area, one of the guys even had the nerve to tell me that sometimes they lie to get the people back in the store.
Anyway, I ended up getting the car for $23,500. I hated it the whole transaction, I already had the financial part ready but with all the hassle I ended up spending close to three hours there. The whole thing was very exasperating.

What is the difference between EX-L 4 cyl & Plain EX 4 cylinder. Cause I bought an EX 2006 with additional options of Rear Wing Spoiler and Moonroof Visor for $22,178.00 +TTL.
  • whitecloud1whitecloud1 Member Posts: 268
    EX-L equals leather.

Hello, I have my eyes set on a 1997 Honda Accord EX. It seems to be a little high on the miles, 143000, but it is 9 years old. Power everything, sunroof, auto, tilt, cruise, excellent body, VIN # checked, no problems! Asking $6700, I think I can talk them down to $5500-$6000. Good deal? My husband owned an Accord when he was in HS and loved it. Had high miles too. I hear the mileage is not a problem. All info will help! Thank!
  • unekgalunekgal Member Posts: 15
This is from a dealer, so it would be retail, but I see from these figures that is high, but it falls within the $3836-$6802 range, but KBB says $6959 for excellent. There are no paint/body defects, but it is a 97, so it would be good condition. Why are those figures so different from Kelley Blue Book?
  • chan101quachan101qua Member Posts: 26
For accord, it's the same old lease offer which doesn't help much since most of us prefer to buy, not lease. There's a new $500 cash to dealer for the LX-V6 model. Do you guy think Honda will throw out better incentives on March ?

Does anyone know of a reputable insurance company that offers GAP insurance besides the one that you get at the dealership or your autoinsurance(mine does not offer it.)

    Thanks
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    unekgal,

I can't answer your question with certainty, but for years I've observed that KBB values have always appeared to be way too optimistic compared to the various other used car pricing tools.

I agree, there is no way that the exterior of a nine year old vehicle can be rated as "Excellent", even though it looks great.

Edmunds uses it as one of their tools but you may want to try http://www.autotrader.com/ to check comparable pricing in your local area.

I am an insurance agent. Look for a new agent or company. I've never heard of a company that did not offer the coverage. Usually costs a few bucks every 6 months.
  • vva1vva1 Member Posts: 4
I got Geico and they don't have it. I have called about 30 different places and they don't offer it and some of them don't even know what it is. I don't know where else to look. Any help is appreciated.

Aside from post #10357, it seems no one is posting what they paid for this trim. I will be buying soon. C@rsdirect.com has a quote for $27,124. This is lower then Edmunds TMV of 27,840.

I do not believe my local dealers have a Manual transmission with black leather and Navi in stock. I don't mind waiting for a grand.

Anyone want to pitch in on what I should pay? I can also wait a month or two if I should - Should I?

    Thanks.
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
    pheobo,

Note that all V6 Accords with Navigation come standard with leather interiors.

    $29,895 MSRP X 3% = $896 Holdback.

    $26,385 Invoice - $896 Holdback + $550 Destination + Approx $200 Regional Advertising = $26,239 Estimated Dealer Cost.

Add some profit, say $200, for a total of $26,439.

That would be my offer. Of course you will have to add your state & local tax, title and license/registration without markups, and maybe a $50 paperwork charge, no more.
  • pheobopheobo Member Posts: 3
Thanks, I may call and make offers today.
  • mf15mf15 Member Posts: 158
Erie Insurance provides gap insurance, of course you need to be a customer. They are located in PA but do not believe they provide coverage nation wide. You may be stuck with what ever you can get from the dealer. It cost 60 for one year on my sons new Altima. Old Mike
  • pheobopheobo Member Posts: 3
Ok. I drove one home today. I should say that my deal is a little different, there are only a few EX, V6 6Spd W/Navi being produced. Most who want Navi and EX want it to be automatic.

There are only two in florida, and I did verify this. I called two dealers and stumbled on one who had this car in stock (in Orlando 60+ miles away). It was the show room car... I believe they did not think it would sell for sometime because of the trim.

So my deal was, $26,700 plus Tax and Tag.
    '06 EX, V6, 6spd W/Navi

I believe I could have gotten it for 100-200 lower if I was willing to be patient, but I new I was going to pay when my mouth said, I'll take it home today if...

So, thanks Blane, I'm happy with my deal. Definately less then I would have paid if I hadn't checked here first.

I live in New Jersey but bought the car EX V6 from Bayridge Honda in Brooklyn NY at 24,568 plus tax title and DMV fee. They charge only 45 for doc fee.
Give them a call. I had a smooth experience buying from them.
And by the way the V6 drives like a dream, I have about 4500 miles in about 4 months since I bought the car and haven't had any complaints. Also getting an average of 25 to 27 (80% highway).

    you have to be kidding.
  • steve9273steve9273 Member Posts: 12
Did you buy an EX SEDAN or COUPE???????
  • blaneblane Member Posts: 2,017
He drove the vehicle home. So the dealer wasn't kidding.
  • dvricedvrice Member Posts: 75
This may be a stupid question, but how can dealers make it only making $200 - $500 per car? It is hard for me to believe they are not making more than this, or getting bonuses for sales numbers or something.
  • dvricedvrice Member Posts: 75
Does this look like a good target price for an '06 V6 EX Sedan with mats and mud guards:

    $25,218 (invoice) - $819 (holdback) + $200 (mats & mud guard) + $200 (profit) = $24,799 +TTL

I would love to find a dealer who will give me this car at this price.

What does everyone think about the timing for buying an Accord right now? Are the prices good now, or will there be some incentives coming soon to compete with Toyota (Toyota currently has $1000 rebate and the redesigned camry arrives in March).

I need to buy a car before July and I have it narrowed down to the Accord EX V6, Acura TSX, or '07 Camry XLE V6.
  • thebillthebill Member Posts: 194
There are many other ways that a dealership makes money other than selling vehicles. 200-500 per vehicle AFTER expenses would be ideal but most consumers do not understand that.
  • jmumfojmumfo Member Posts: 1
Getting ready to buy 06-EX-V6, but can't find color that I want with Navi (actually, can't find any with Navi at all). Can the factory Navi be added later? What do you think cost would be?
