....FWIW: last summer......NEW 2005 EX V-6 6M coupe currently in my garage was $23413 prior TTL.....
..again: FWIW.
best, ez..
For instance: I have a 2005 civic lx with only 1600 miles on it. its certified. Sale price: 18000!!!!!
I know, I know, its more than it was brand new. The certification process and warranty can cost alot of money (as we all know).
every time i go to buy a used car, I run into a couple of dealers who think my price is unrealistic. Ya know what? It may take a couple of weeks, but I get it for my price every time. Just takes the right dealer with the right car. Patience is a virtue.
Oh, and, yes, certification CAN cost alot, but it doesn't have to. On an '05 with low miles, unless its been abused, it shouldn't cost very much to certify.

The previous owner trading in a Honda for a new one has a lot of power in the negotiation process. Everyone knows how much value these vehicles hold, so if a customer says that I want X difference or I'm not buying, then the dealership may have to "over-allow" for the vehicle. Sometimes, in fact, over-allowing way more than nec. to make a deal.
For instance: if someone was trading an 04 Accord for an 06. Say trade in value was 17,000 however the customer just HAD to have 18,000 to make it a fair deal in their brain, then I would have to over-allow 1000 dollars of profit from my car to make up for it. And we all know how we are not allowed to make a dime of profit.
After I put in 18 and possible totaling 19000 into the vehicle in certification repairs and reconditioning, then I have to pay for the 12/12 and 7/100 warr. and those arent cheap. the car could then be in the low 20's. Then I mark it up to what the market could bear with the demand of the vehicle and its availability.
Make any sense?
It can work the other way, too. If a dealer paid lower than wholesale on a trade, that's their business. If they got that same $18k wholesale car for $17k, I still have to assume its worth $18k wholesale and pay accordingly.

The new car market has spoiled buyers into thinking that they can buy every vehicle a certain way. Sorry, its just not so.
BTW, I usually offer $2k over wholesale on a vehicle valued $15k and up.
All this being said, realize that I have NOT checked wholesale on the unit in question. My numbers, in this case, were merely based on "if i can't get it for this, i would be better off buying new."

very true, in most instances. I usually use pre-owned certifieds as a justification or a means to reach a certain payment budget. If a customer needs to be at X a month and the only way is on a 2 year old certified with 30-40K miles, then so be it.
I was NOT looking fwd to purchasing another car, but I was forced to replace my 15-yr old Prelude. I may have left $$ on the table with Sport, as I didn't counter their offer one penny or try to get them to add any free accessories. But it floored me they would willingly come in so low on their first price. And there was absolutely NO pressure...
This is now called over-allowing? I'd love for that to be on the sales contract along with window etching, rust protection, political contribution, and the conveyance fee "everyone" has to pay.
I feel very bad for those in the business, when Toyota moves to direct purchasing for new vehicles... others (Honda, GM, etc.) will follow. Savvy consumers may end up paying slightly more, though well worth it when you don't have to spend all that cheese for tall boots.
Because I have absolutely no problem finding certified '03s far less than $3k off new price.

An 03 certified Accord EXV6 would probably be around $20k, or $6,000 off new, right?
I'm guessing you don't live in a warm climate?
when I purchased my 06 Civic EX w/navi. I had every honda salesperson on these boards ranting and raving about how MSRP was a great deal. A few weeks later I take delivery for roughly $500 over invoice.
As for used accords, civics, etc. I fully understand how these cars simply can not be cross shopped, most used cars fall into this category. Although, I'd be hard pressed to by a used accord/civic when left overs (at the time of my purchase 3 months back) are sitting in the showroom, on the lot for $3k-6k off.
As for "certified Honda" used cars, warranties can be purchased very cheaply, I don't get too excited over a used car with 15k miles on it, where the deal over-allowed, had to certify it (what a burden) $395, and the lot boy giving it his special wax job, then having to hear the salesmen say.......
Need I get into those extended warranties dealerships push on the consumer for $1500...purchased on the web for $495, yes they are honda car warranties.
Sorry but not everyone is a sucker... same ol' song and dance... like I said sit back and watch the car business change.
nothing spectacular
What does everyone think?
What does everyone think?
That is $550 over invoice...not bad at all, I've seen a few do better, several do worse, but with the car in the color you want, and with the 6-speed (harder to find than auto), I'd take it. Enjoy your new car!
I actually dealt hard with a dealer in MD and finally got the price down to $17,700 OTD. The extra warranty was $900, but I didn't take it. I've owned 4 Accords and I've never had a problem.
I actually didn't think I got a good deal. Hopefully I did.
Good Luck!
Your $17,700 OTD includes TTL or not?
I got an offer $17,800+TTL.
Thank.

LX
All value package features, plus:
• 120-watt AM/FM/CD audio system with 6 speakers
• Body-colored power side mirrors
• Multi-reflector halogen headlights with auto-off
• Variable intermittent windshield wipers
More speakers, power side mirrors, auto-off headlights, and intermittent wipers were not worth almost 2k ($1000 invoice. I talked the dealer here down to 19100 for an LX sedan +TT&L). I guess you get 16" wheels also, but I have already seen sets 2004-2006 16" Accord EX wheels/tires on Ebay for $500. I just couldnt justify spending that much extra money for stuff I see as useless.
Yes, that includes TTL and Freight (which I think they just put down on paper - even that can be negotiated). $17,800 is too much, push them to go down more.
As for the LX model, I was almost going to purchase a 2005 VP which has no keyless entry, power door locks, day running lights, cruise control, a/c etc. and I put an offer on an '05 LX instead. Obviously they didn't accept my offer.
I like the LX, but the '06 VP is a HUGE step above last year's model. It has the same engine as all the rest, has keyless entry, power windows/locks, cruise control, a/c etc. The two speakers that don't come in the back cost me only $40, and beleive me you can live without the power mirrors (and the map lights). And in the long run, the wheels on there will prove cost effective since they're 15" tires. The 16" costs more. If it were '05 and I had a choice between a VP and an LX, I'd go for the LX. For '06, unless you're going for the LX SE, the VP is a very attractive model.
Good luck with purchasing your car!
Oh, I almost bought that vp for $17800+TTL!
Could you please tell me your price before TTL?
Thanks.
Your price is the out of door price, or $18,000+TTL?
Thanks.
I'm looking for a LX. But I lean toward the VP model now. I'live in MD, so would you please send me your dealer info to my address: fengycui@yahoo.com. Thanks a lot.
Thanks
