What is your game of choice while in Vegas?...I am partial to blackjack, double deck...thanks for the help...
The fundamental problem, with the whole sales process is the people. Not that they are bad people but many times they are the wrong people for the job.
The customers are just as bad. A salesperson is really limited to being generally honest; but customers are encouraged to lie like rugs. I had a salesperson, a newbie, his third car, sell a Grand Cherokee. In the excitement of the moment he accidentally checked the little box on the buyers order that said 8cyl not the correct 6cyl. Eleven months later I get a call from the customers attorney asking "where's the V-8". The dealership ended up refunding the customers full amount and getting a Grand Cherokee with 23000 miles. There was no attempt at deception on the salesmans part but the law is on the customers side.
Another time I had an older lady, looking for her last new car before retirement. We went through the whole test drive with all the typical sales questions....
Have you been shopping anywhere else.... NO
Do you know what your car is worth .....NO
ETC, ETC, ETC.....
We get back to my desk and I present her with some numbers.
She opens her purse and starts pulling out business cards from 4 other dealerships...So and so said this; and so and so here said that....
I got up, gave her her keys and asked....
Would you ever do business with anyone who would treat you with such disrespect and contempt......NEITHER WOULD I...Have a nice day and then I asked her to leave.
I would hire 30 people to start a training class, after the first day I was down to 15. After the first month I was down to three. Too many auto salespeople are not car people, they are selling cars until their next job; iyt is not a career choice but an employment stopgap. How can anyone effectively sell a product that you are not enthusiastic about. How can anyone sell a product that they dont know anything about other than the key goes here and the gas goes there.
A good salesperson will not greet you at your car as you arrive at the dealership. A good salesperson is usually too busy with previous customers and referrals to stand at the door hawking ups(customers).
The best way to find a good salesperson is to ask others who own the type of car you are considering buying where they bought theirs and how they were treated. Dont be afraid to ask someone at the gas station or in the parking lot at the mall, If someone has an opinion they will usually be glad to share it, good or bad.
People do business with people, it doesn't matter what your selling, if I dont like you I wont buy. If I do like you and feel you have your best to help me make an important and expensive decision I will probably pay a little more.
An educated coinsumer is also an important part of the whole process. In this day an age of instant access to information there is no excuse for allowing yourself to be taken advantage of. You can get the actual invoice for any car in the world as well as the value of your current car in a matter of minuites. Information is power. BE POWERFUL.
If you dont understand the information you receive there are forums such as this with lots of information and opinions. Consider that in your lifetime you may buy 10 cars, a crummy salesperson sells 10 cars a month. The deck is stacked in their favor due to your lack of experience and information. ARM YOURSELF.
You are in control of the process, get informed and get a good deal, be ignorant and get taken advantage of, your choice.
Da Wizard
Use paragraphs. They imply (possibly falsely) that you have a well-thought-out position to discuss, point by point.
Remember that those of us in North America have (very) short attention spans. Plus which, everyone has a need to ingest information in useable bits.
Phone numbers, credit card numbers & all other numbers had better be in 3- or 4-digit groups, or they become hopeless to work with, as you may have noticed.
Better develop a longer attention span....you might miss the finer things in life.
I would like to purchace, but I do not want payments of over $500/month and I will most likely just want the 07 when they come out next year, so I am considering a 1 year lease to hold me over until then.
Here is where we ended up.
Sale Price: $35,879
Money Factor: .00184
Residual Value: $29,941
25k miles
$3,000 due at signing
$470/month (actual number was $469 something, I just rounded up cause I dont have the exact number here with me)
Is this about right for the sales price and lease numbers? I seem to recall seeing about the same car with lower 1st payment on here...
Thanks in advance!
Oh yea, Liquid Platinum with Slate if you care to know
Yes, there are nasty costumers every where but it doesnt justify to treat everybody the same way.
thanks!

Since I am purchasing it out of the state and in cash, the dealer will not collect state sales tax on out of state residents, and I will be responsible for the tax when I register the car in my state.
I have not purchased any vehicles out of the state, can someone please tell me how the registration process will be different? Am I going to have to pay extra since it is an out-of-state purchase? Thanks.
make sure you have factored in the $2500 manufacturer to dealer incentive in the price.
I live in South Jersey; so the dealers in the Philadelphia area as well as those in Delaware will do the other state taxes and DMV work. This only works in a regional area, I couldnt go to Harrisburg(central Pa) and expect them to do NJ DMV work but the dealers in Philly will.
All you have to do is check with your states DMV services. Sometimes this can even be done online. There should be no extra costs associated other than the cost of the temporary non-resident registration you are probably driving around on.
You will also need to get your vehicle through a state inspection if your state requires one. You may be able to contact the local dealer and have them inspect your car, but may cost you a few dollars.
Good Luck,
Da Wiz
Thanks,
Dealers call it a "doc" fee and people pay it. If they called it what it really is, "additional dealer profit," no one would. As far as I'm concerned, the cost of filling out paperwork is PART OF THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS. Next, they're going to charge you for using their pen to sign the paperwork that they're already charging you for.
I got a new G35 Coupe 6MT Premium Package w/ Sirius radio, diamond graphite.
I paid invoice +$800. I called around ~8 dealers (all in Texas), and the lowest price over invoice ranged from $300 to $1000, with the median at $750 over invoice. I could probably have negotiated more off my deal, but I found the exact package/color I was looking for and the dealer was the closest to my home and pleasant enough to deal with. A couple notes: dealers will try to stick you with the tinting/clear bra installation/satellite radio. Pay at most $200 for the tiniting, $400 for the clear bra. Also, dealers will tell you they have to charge ~$600 to cover cost for a satelite radio if not factory installed. Mine was not factory installed, and the dealer agreed to match the invoice price of $302 for a new installation.
Overall, a very pleasant buying experience, and the car rocks.
I called all dealers around Chicago. I could get a black/stone with a some options for invoice. But I wanted that piece loaded and black on black. I paid $1,000 over invoice. I also had to wait two weeks.
I too had a pleasant buying experience. I did spend too much time at the dealership. However, this car does rock!
I just returned from picking up my car, G35x, twilight blue and the rep that was delivering my car, for my sales rep.wanted me to sign everything before I saw the car. Be sure you see the car before you sign anything. My car, though polished and detailed was a mess. Paint had some sort of blemishes all over the hood and trunk, there was a scratch. Bottom line....did not take the car.
GM came out and looked the car over and said, i swear he said this,"we can switch the hood for you." Hmmmm, lets see almost a 40k car and he wants to switch the hood??? Nice try but nahhh. Then the old " want a different color routine and I'll throw in the satellite radio?"....hmmmmm...no thanks, I want the twilight blue.
Now, there is a dilemma as I cannot take delivery of the car until after Labor Day due to prior committments. Guess he doesn't get that car in Augusts billing...tsk, tsk.
Just a simple suggestion when you go to pick up your NEW CARS. Before you sign anything, be sure your car looks the part of a NEW CAR and is in perfect shape for delivery. After all you are spending what $35K-40K you should be getting what you pay for.
Now where is that Infiniti salesman on here that asked what I did for a living and that no one should be expected to work for free. What say you about this bit of nonsense I had to put up with with my NEW CAR....Hmmmmm????
I think MSRP a little over $38k.
Would anyone jump on this deal? It's either this or a 2006 Acura TL w/Nav for $32,000 before tax and title.
I drove the TL and found a little hesitation when I press on the gas in traffic. Not sure if this is what Edmunds.com referr to as "could use more low-end torque".
The AWD seems inviting.
Any feedback appreciated.
So I guess this isn't such a hot deal after all. How low do you think I can go with this quote?
Dealer didn't have my color w/o sunroof. so threw in the sunroof for the earlier agreed upon price.
'06 G35, Prem C Pkg, w/NAV, Wood Trim
Invoice $38,200
Edmunds TMV report was $34,239 so we said we wouldn't pay more than that.
Initial Cap Cost $34,200
Residual 67%
Money Factor .00052
I also got $4,000 for my trade-in (CarMax tried to low ball us and offered only $2,000)
No $$$ out of pocket...they took my 1st mth's payment ($289.13) out of the trade in.
