I think you got a great deal on your MDX. Your price of $39,400 is like $400 over invoice. The $500 you paid for the running board is not bad actually (I believe is $550 at the dealership) but think about all the other extra stuff you got. Can you tell me who you dealt with on the phone and at the dealership?
I just put down a $500 refundable deposit for a Red 2004 MDX with Nav for a price of $38,160 (rounded). Basically the deal is $500 over invoice price. The reason for the deposit is the red color that I wanted is not available at the dealership and they got one arrive around 3rd or 4th week of August. Do you think this is a reasonable deal? I should of negotiate for the cargo net and all that. For the running board, they will charge me about $500. They said that is their cost. Is there anyway to get invoice prices for these accessories? I want to get that price list so if I decide to get any of these accessories I'll know what they should cost.
I am about to finalize my purchase of a 2004 MDX W/ Nav. Included in the deal is the body side molding, tailgate spoiler and the protection pac(wheel locks, cargo tray and all season mat's)Those accesories add up to a little over $1,100 installed from the dealer. After all is said and done the final price they are willing to give me the vehicle for is $39,789. Total MSRP w/accesories is $42,850. My savings from that is about $3,061.
I am planning to buy a Acura MDX '04 with Touring package. I would like to know what price can I pay to the dealer. I am planning to buy it from Ed Napleton Acura. I saw the message # 1390 by a person who purchased it from the same dealer. Can u please suggest me the Salesman's name. The invoice price for the vehicle is 35,132. How much more above the invoice should I pay to get a good deal.

How much more above the invoice should I pay to get a good deal.
I got a quote for a base model from there for 33,997 recently. It was to match a price from out of state. Email me if you want additional information. Or you can ask the internet manager.
At this time most Acura dealers will sell aggressively to get rid of the 2004 stock.
Doubt that this year will be much diffeent than the past -- Acura has not produced any quantity of "next model year" MDXs until well into the FALL. They have not been "stuck" with current calendar year MDXs. In fact, with color changes and such there has been a bit of rush to FIND specific exterior/interior combinations.
Acura salespeople, like most, will be a bit more flexible at "month end" and AFTER the details of the "new models" are out, but Acura has been pretty tight lipped for all three years of MDX production.
These factors, as well as the excpetional value of the vehicle, have contributed to outstanding 'retained value' and I expect that to continue.
We are considering purchasing a 2004 MDX base model within a month. We live in Edison, New Jersey. Are there any recent MDX buyers from this area who can provide how much over invoice or under MSRP they paid for their 2004 MDX?
We are looking at purchasing an MDX in the Tampa,FL area and was looking for anyone that might have any recent purchase experience in this area or close by. We are willing to travel a bit to get the best price. We also had some questions regarding the different trim levels and hope someone can shed some light on this, such as:
What is the difference in these trim levels? MDX Premium and the MDX Touring? is the extra money worth it?
We are not real interested in the Nav as we do not thing that we will use it at all.
If anybody out there can help us out on pricing and what not we would sure appreciate it. This forum is a great tool to get some great info. Thanks in advance....
You should be able to get info on other styles from there by selecting "view all styles." You can then hit the "Reviews & Specs" tab for the packages you're interested in, and you'll find a link to standard features for each one. Hope that helps you get started!

Please email me the salesman's name. I am planning to buy it this Friday. My email address is raman_mahadevan@hotmail.com. I am planning to get an MDX 2004 with Touring package. The invoice is 35,132. Also could you please tell me what should i pay for running boards.
Hi to all, I would really appreciate any input on this matter. On 07/27 (last friday) I signed up for a Deal on Acura MDX Touring with RES for $2700 below MSRP. Put down $1000 deposit. They did not have the car on the lot so they they promised to get me one in 24-48 hours. My salesman called me yesterday and told me they have the car. I asked him if they brought it on a truck - he said they do not do that for local exchanges (and my deal is too good for them to bring it on a truck..). In any case, he said that they drove the car and that it has around 55 miles on it. I have to take delivery tommorrow so just wanted to see what you people think: (a) is this a normal practice (b) how maany miles did you guys generally have on the car when you bought it (c) should I go ahead with the deal or back out
Also beginning active search for same vehicle in Twin Cities. Received one quote from Bloomington Acura, but I think I can do better. How is your search going?
Any luck with your search? I am beginning my search for 2004 MDX with NAV. I received one quote in person, but just now beginning more intensive search.
saint1, I would go ahead with the deal. While I am with you in preferring that they truck the vehicle up, I don't think it is unreasonable for them to drive it. In my experience, the dealer has always driven the car from another dealership.
I've been impressed with a test drive and good reviews. Thinking of pulling the trigger and buying one, but want to wait for the model-year change to work my best possible deal. Anyone know when its likely to happen? Also, any pricing info relative to Atlanta-area dealers is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I really thought that I was making the right decision trading my 2001 BMW 530 in for an 04 MDX. I needed an SUV and the MDX made the most sense. However, between the break thunk, gas slosh and now the tranny problems I'm hearing about with the 2003's (which has the same tranny as the 04's)I really miss my bimmer.
Got rid of an '01 RX300 for the roomier MDX. Needed the 3rd row and couldn't justify the extra cash for the GX. The gas slosh is bordering on ridiculous!
I STRONGLY URGE anyone thinking about purchasing an MDX to test drive it with a full tank of gas and with the radio OFF. Let the car go forward about 1 to 2 feet and hit the brakes. The sloshing noise coming from the back is laughable... that is, if it weren't a 35K automobile... now it's just frustrating.
First and last Honda product I will EVER purchase. Really miss the Toyota/Lexus smooth and quiet ride.
I think it will come down more. Last year(in October) my friend bought it below invoice(1k). But then there is a risk you might not get the color you are looking for.
Even though MDX isn't everything I bargained for, it's still the best SUV on the market for my needs. Lexus 330 - Too small and hate the look Volvo - Expensive and probably not as reliable Tourag - Looks great but not until VW gets a handle on thier rel. issues The only other option was to look at Pathfinders or Four Runners but I didn't want or need a truck.
I'm will probably buy the BMW all wheel 5 series sedan when it comes out in a few years.
nesc, have you gotten any response? I just moved here from So.Cal. and was startled to find dealers only willing to go $1500.00 under MSRP! Does this have anything to do with the lack of sales tax here, or is it because there are fewer dealers and little competition? I would be willing to go as far as Seattle (no tax if transaction is handled right).
Do you think we should both go in together and play good cop bad cop with them?
I just bought a 2004 MDX from Greenwich Acura and am very happy with the whole experience. I paid 39,900 for a fully loaded (Navigation & DVD)MDX and the salesman was very friendly and knowledgeable about explaining all the features of the car and the schedule of services. If you live in Fairfield county, CT. or Westchester, NY, I would highly recommend this dealership.
Two weeks ago I bought a Silver MDX with Navi/Res for ~3K below MSRP from Acura of Portland: $40245 + $300 for the protection package (rubber mats/cargo tray/wheel locks). I had to drive down there from Seattle since none of the dealerships here had the car I wanted and the deals were about 800$ worse than in Portland.
I used the Edmunds "contact the dealer" form to get in touch with them.
Who was your salesperson? I'd like to get a hold of them and see if they are willing to do a similiar deal, although I am still strongly leaning to waiting for the 2005's to come out.
I've just had a discussion with an Acura sales person over the phone to figure out their lease deals. When it came to fees, besides the standard bank fees, tags, and taxes I was quoted "Freight Charge" of $545 and "Prep Charge" of 695. Sounds outrageous. Is that normal practice for Acura?
"Freight" charge is standard, look it up in Edmunds to make sure they are quoting the right amount.
"Prep" charge, "processing fees" and other dealer added charges are not standard. I've had them wiaved in every car I've purchased since 1984. About the only fee other than taxes and tags I've paid is a nominal ($30-$75) charge for getting the permanant tags. I'd rather have their courrier do it than stand in the DMV line myself.
This time last year I purchased a new 2003 MDX w/nav and DVD From Lindsay Acura in Columbus Ohio. I live in Washington, DC and purchased from them because they had the best deal. Because of the service I received, I contacted them about buying a 2004 TL w/nav. I was told that they are selling ALL 2004 MDX's AND TL's FOR $350 OVER INVOICE! If anyone has questions about an out of town purchase, you can contact me, or read post #564.
Congrats on your deal. It is a shame that some dealers still want to play games. If Montgomeryville is not out of your way, I would drive over there, show the salesperson your deal(paperwork) and also ask for the owner of the dealership to tell him about how one of his employees is losing them money.
Just closed the deal on a sage bush pearl MDX/NAV. Using Edmunds info, got two quotes and went with my local dealer (Sussman Automotive). Whole process was smooth and easy. Cost was invoice+$650. Not as good as some others have gotten here, however, I'm satisfied.
Only disappointment was Acura financing. They quoted 4.9% on a 36 month loan. I went elsewhere and got a better deal.
Picking it up tomorrow. Between now and then I'm going to have to figure out a way to pry my wife out of the driver's seat.
Funny thing is, I know the owner! I was a commercial real estate broker before becoming a developer and sold him the land in 1988 that they are now building a new Acura store on. The salesman actually told his son that I was in to buy an MDX and this is the treatment I got. Needless to say, in the car game it's not who you know but what you know!
The board host deleted my post because I mentioned the first name of the internet manager at Davis. I edited and reposted but it has not appeared.
After using Edmunds to determine the real numbers I visited my local dealer and then requested a price quote via the Edmunds site. The closest dealer (Montgomeryville Acura) must have confused me with a fool because they offered to sell me an MDX Touring for $1000 off of list. After a bit of back and forth they took another $500 off. Needless to say I thanked them for their time and departed. One day later I received an email from Davis Acura in Langhorne, PA offeringme the same MDX for $1200 over cost. I spoke to the internet manager directly and told him I would be purchasing the car within 4 weeks. He was very accomodating and suggested I call when ready. Ten days passed and on 7/30 I received an email saying that because it was month end they would sell me the car for invoice if I purchased now. I confirmed the price and called Montgomeryville to offer them a last look although I knew they'd balk. Well...I was right and they spent more time telling me that Davis couldn't deliver at the price they quoted. I visited Davis the next day, signed the paperwork in 15 minutes and returned that evening with my wife to pick up the vehicle. All in all a painless experience and the Davis salesman was awesome.
This morning at 9:00 I received a call from the Montgomerville salesman asking if I was ready to buy the MDX, I asked him what he didn't understand about the conversation we had last week? He acted like I was lying about the Davis price. If anyone who lives in the Philadelphia burbs is looking for an Acura I suggest you avoid Montgomeryville.
Just closed a deal and drove home my new 2004. Out the door it was $33,837 for the base model with a pin stripe thrown in. Dealer in Eugene Oregon had the car on the lot and was ready to do business. It was definitely worth the 100 mile drive (although I was also quoted a very attractive discount on a 2005 locally)
I am sorry. I didn't read the forum's prohibition on salesperson names. I'll repost and leave that stuff out. I just thought it might be helpful. Should I leave my name out as well, or do you think it would be helpful with those who are trying to deal with dealers in Portland and Eugene so they can't claim that they never offered that deal to anyone.
If anyone wants to contact you they can email you by looking up your address in your user profile. Just be sure to make it is set to visible so they can see it (refer to the "Town Hall Profile" link near the top of the left column on this page.)
