Just signed the paper for 34k + 1500 in options (roof rack, running boards, cargo tray/liner/cover, all season mats, side molding and wheel locks). This is not including TTL - but everything else. So. Cal taxes take it to $38.8k out the door. Used Edmunds a lot this year - THANKS! But 50% dealers didn't quote when I did the e-mail thing - played best prices off the credit union and now I just have to show up and grab the keys.
Don't know if I'll trade in the '96 Accord EX coupe w/ 89k miles or try to sell myself (if anyone has some advice on that - I'd love to hear it). Good luck to you all. I took to heart something I read - that ultimately the car you choose to buy is an emotional decision, not a scientific one.
The '05 sticker for $1000 more than the 04's, and dealers are not doing $300 over invoice on '05 yet. I suppose the '04 inventory will start moving once people realize the price difference on essentially the same car with a couple new gadgets.
For the money nothing comes close to how this thing drives and feels. After 500 miles, averaging 18mpg. Got the exhaust rumble at 2000rpm like most folks, but doesn't bother me.
p.s. They throw in wheel locks in free for all their cars and they don't try to sell you warranties or lo jacks or any other after market stuff.
I am sure you all can get a great deal on MDX these days. the dealerships i went all have rows and rows of MDXs on lot, good for us,
PS: just checked email, the 3rd dealer was willing to go for $2100 under invoice...
I asked if I could buy the car in California and not pay tax since I'm in Oregon, but California passed a law that forces tax payment on any purchases in the state.
I like the car but it just feels like I'm paying more than what I should...any thoughts? Some guy at the Salem dealership even wanted to charge me MSRP (42k)!
The dealer is Orr Acura in Shreveport, Louisiana. They are very nice people to deal with. I got a 2005 MDX Touring with Nav and rear-seat DVD for $41,500 + TTL. They came down another $345 since my last post. This represents $2,845 below the $44,345 MSRP (including destination). I'm sure this price is still well above invoice, but I figured it is probably the best I can do for a 2005 that is not even out yet. It is scheduled to arrive around the end of the month.
Thank you in advance if you can provide me with this info.
I was at a dealership (northern area) today and they didn't even want to negotiate at invoice.
Thanks.
Thanks!
Clarification- The pricing $2100 under invoice for MDX TOURING was a misquote.
The salesperson was quoting MDX BASE for $33600.
I believe the best price is the $1000 under invoice which was mention in msg #1559
thank your for the clarification! i just examed all of his emails and found there is NO mentioning of 'touring', although i clearly requested bid for 04 touring. his phrase of 'we do have your exact car, blah blah ...' somehow convinced me to believe his quotes were on touring. luckily i didn't go there!
my appology for the misleading information with regarding to the 2100 under invoice quote
Thank you for sharing your info with the rest of us.
It's a '04 Touring w/ Navigation, running boards and wheel locks for $1,000 under invoice. I think I could have gotten more off if I waited but then there would have been less and less color choices.
The buying experience was great with South Coast Acura.
Are any dealers around here better than others? I.e., do any give free oil changes, free service, or the like?
Thank you to all!!!
Princeton Acura, NJ
$125 doc fee.
Overall buying experience is good.
When I got to the dealership there is no admin. assistance to greet us (unlike Lexus/Infiniti dealership I went to). All salesperson are busy w/customers on a Sat. afternoon. I waited in the service area for a bit until someone is done (20 min?). I did not decide on getting the RES until today. We were able to finish the transaction without having to come back (would have landed same deal in another dealership or bought Infiniti FX35 instead if proved to be too much aggravation). I think the price paid is fair and left enough for dealership profit considering people are getting $400 above invoice for 2004 models. It depends if you need the enhanced tech features or just need a good SUV.
FYI my sister bought 2004 MDX RES from them last year but I didn't use her salesperson. I first went to Acura.com requested quote within 25 miles of our zip code. I was going to buy FX35 but waited to see what kind of deals can be had for 2005 MDX because I like the nav. better (can program w/o having to stop the car). If MDX were selling at MSRP I'd have went w/FX35.
I am also looking for a 2004/2005 MDX touring/NAV/RES in NJ. I have got a quote for $39500 (500 over invoice) for a 2004 MDX for above mentioned options and $43245 ($1000 off MSRP) for a 2005 with same options from Open road acura. Your deal for a 2005 MDX with DVD/NAV (I guess touring is a must as well for these two options) is approx. $1800 less for a 2005 vehicle than what I got a price quote for. I have just request a internet price quote from princeton acura. When are you getting the delivery and does your price any accessories.
I have also test driven a fx35 and the ride is much more sporty than MDX and the 2004 FX35 is now available $1000 to $1500 under invoice.
Can you share what you paid?
Also, is the LCD screen standard w/ the trip computeré Thanks so much!
Best of luck.
I took a turn and hit a bump at the same time. My wife and daughter were in the back. My wife ended up on top of my daughter's left leg. The ride is OK if you are holding on to the steering wheel, but sucks for the passenger and SUCKS big time for the rear passengers. Some fx35 owners on the edmunds boards say their kids get nauseous in the car.
Anyway, that's why we bought the plain vanilla mdx.
Here's the rub: if you compare the specs on these two cars, it looks like they are the same car with a different shell: the engines are same, both 3.5 liters, both same horsepower and towing capacity, and the dimensions are almost exactly the same (height, etc). In fact, the Pilot has more legroom and cargo capacity, including more space for the third row.
So, outside of image, why are you folks buying the MDX? What am I missing here?
I live in houston. My wife leases an 01 4runner limited. The sticker was actually as much as a base MDX. It's up in about 10 months. I was wondering if anybody would be brave enough to share what they put down, and are paying a month on a base MDX lease.

PS. Any thoughts on the lexus RX330?
It was anywhere from $20 to $50/mo. better than other dealers.
With no trade, options or financing - my price was $2,350 under MSRP + TTL
There was a $45 doc fee in the contract
May not be the best deal out there as it felt I left something on the table - but had another dealer who was not even willing to talk about anything near $2K off in spite of my being ready to sign.
Hope this helps...
