We are looking for an 04 MDX touring with NAV here in Vegas. Only 1 dealer here and they quoted some un godly out the door of 45k. How close is the best deal? Willing to drive to St. George or SO. CAl to save the thousands the folks here seem to be. Reading here, the one we were offered STINKS!
I just bought a new 2004MDX base model. I live in Portland Oregon, and initially got offers at $1500 to $1800 off MSRP. I have never paid that much over invoice before. I began contacting internet managers from Seattle to Eugene with the help of Edmunds. I ultimately found Kendall Acura in Eugene Oregon who had the car on the lot and sold it to for $33,837.00, much better than the earlier offers. I even got a free pinstripe
To cap it off (not to annoy anyone) there is no sales tax in Oregon. I must admit I was also seriously tempted by an offer made by Tonkin Acura of Portland of $2000 off a 2005. If you have any questions you can contact me by email - it is public in my profile.
(PS to the web host - I hope I did it right this time. Thanks for the help)
Hi there. Did you end up buying the MDX? I am also in Tampa and looking to purchase the MDX within the next couple of weeks. Do you have any advice? How much did you end up paying if I may ask?
Have two dealers I'm working with, both right at $41K for 2004 MDX w/Nav and DVD as well as Running boards, side body molding, and wood trim wheel; they value those 3 add ons about $1.6K so I think I'm looking at $39.5. Neither will budge any further; decent deal? Cig
I have a question pertaining to buying a 2004 MDX when the 2005's hit the streets. If the dealer is quoting 500 over invoice today and the urgency to sell the 04's is raised at that time does the following theory make sense. I am purchasing a vehicle that is a year old and has suffered that year's depreciation ($7000 according to edmunds). Why would I still pay invoice or higher for that auto? Even if you figured the depreciation at 1% that is still a $3500 deprecation. Would this rationale work with any dealer?
You may be able to do better, but not in DC. I bought a 2003 MDX w-nav and dvd last year from Lindsay Acura in Columbus Ohio, and I live in DC. Go to post 564 in this forum where i detail the entire deal. They are currently selling ALL 2004 TL's and MDX's for $350 over invoice, which would be $39,357 for your model. You can go there and pick up the vehicle, or they can deliver it to your door(that's what I did). If you look at post #564, I paid $559 for the black side steps, and $80 for the side molding. I did not get the wood wheel, but i do not think it would cost you $1000. You can contact me if you have any questions.
Hi EddieMac: Saw your note and read your earlier post. Sounds like you got an excellent deal. I think I'll pull the trigger today as it sounds like it's a good price for the area. How do you like the vehicle at it's one year anniversary? Is it meeting exepectations?Cig
So far, so good. No problems whatsoever after 13k miles. We are leaving Saturday to drive to Myrtle Beach, SC(about a 7-8 hour drive). This will be the first long distance trip.
First of all, where did you come up with $7k for the first year depreciation?
You must remember that when the 04's came out they were going for at or around the list price.
You must also look view the depreciation over the life of ownership of the vehicle not the day you drive it off the lot. The curve decreases dramatically the longer you own the vehicle. If you plan on getting rid of the car soon then I would just lease one...
Another factor that Edmunds doesn't take into consideration, I believe, is availability. Try finding a MDX on a used lot. I haven't been able to find any in my area. This increases the value of the vehicle by perception and demand.
Also, your car, although an '04 model year has effectively 0 miles and in excellent condition, you will be rewarded for this over the life of the vehicle in increased value or reduced depreciation however you view it.
The only way you are going to get below invoice is if the factory gives you or your dealer an incentive to reduce inventory, however, I haven't seen ACURA need to provide these incentives in the past to move their inventory. It moves itself.
I bought my '99 TL beginning of the model year and paid sticker. I just bought a '04 MDX and paid 40,100 for NAVI/RES and protection package - the body side moldings on May 11 through the internet sales manager.
I will guarantee the '05 will have a higher sticker price because of 1. inflation, 2. Weak dollar and you will pay near sticker for the '05 vs invoice on the '04.
I've been reading all through this forum over the last couple of days and I find myself wondering what people think about prices next month after the 05's come out. I'm looking for a base level MDX in the DC Region. and I am hearing prices around 34k.
I'm wondering if I can expect prices to dip at all or if I am better of just getting the job done now.
I'm planning to test drive a MDX and FX35 this weekend to determine which vehicle I want and have a question about purchasing. If the dealer doesn't have the car I want but can have it delivered from another dealer, am I committed to buying the vehicle. I would want to test drive the car before I buy but am not sure if a dealer would be willing to have a vehicle delivered without a guaranteed sale.
I just picked up my 2004 Acura MDX Base Model (Redrock Pearl) with 3 accessory items: Roof Rack, Woodgrain Shift Knob, and Woodgrain Steering Wheel. Pricing is: $33,637 ($300 over invoice for base vehicle) $663 for Parts & Labor to install accessories $2,058 for PA Sales Tax $123 for Tags/Documentation $36,481 Total Out the Door Price. Purchased at Apple Acura in York, PA. Had similar offers from Reading Acura (Reading,PA), Motorworld Acura (Wilkes Barre, PA), Baierl Acura (Wexford, PA), and Lehigh Valley Acura (Emmaus, PA). All were offering internet quotes at or close to invoice for 2004s. Some would only deal with vehicles on the lot, others (such as Apple) were willing to go find the vehicle from another dealer. Based on my experience you should have no problem getting a vehicle close to invoice at this time (at least in PA region). Only issue may be finding the color combination you like. This is the third vehicle I have purchased using the fantastic information from the Edmunds Forums as benchmarks. Thank you all for sharing your info as it has been incredibly helpful!!!
According to Automotive News "Future Asian products" , the new 05 MDX changes will only be new color or colors and XM radio. Model will be reskinned for the 06 model year. I bought my MDX base model in June and got $2,500 off sticker which I felt was a great deal. When I went shopping in Dec 03 , everyone was only offering $500 at the most off sticker. Last year , my buddy bought one at sticker price. MDX prices are now at great prices , I say buy a 04 today. The 05's won't change but prices will be higher and dealers won't discount as much. Depreciation really won't change too much , esp. if you are planning keeping it at least 3yrs. Word of advice to everyone : Buy the $100 body side molding it worth it. Also save yourself thousands of $$$ and buy the fully loaded base model (its really not a base model). The touring model is just a waste of money, too much extra $ for what you get. I am very happy with my 2004 MDX and have no problems. I don't hear any swishing noises when I fill my up. I am getting 23mpg highway/suburban driving with high test gas, I am very happy with the gas mileage.
If you'll check the postings in this forum from the first week of Nov 2003, you'll find that the new and re-designed 2004 MDX's were sold at $1,000 to $2,000 off the MSRP. Taking into account that in the last 12 months Acura has even more competition from newer SUV's, I'd expect 2005 to be priced by the dealers at or better than last year.
For your base model, the spread between MSRP and invoice is $3,600. Even if I could find a 2004 car at invoice, for $2,000-2,500 more I'd rather wait for 2005 model.
From what I can tell, the Pilot (EX-L) is getting a fair number of improvements/upgrades for 2005 that will place it that much closer to an MDX: Increased horsepower, Upgraded navigation system, Moonroof, Side curtain airbags, stability control, 6-disk in dash changer, XM Radio.
The only improvement to the MDX I've heard of is XM radio. I was having trouble justifying the price difference between an MDX and Pilot for the 2004 model. For 2005 I suspect anybody not completely infatuated with the Acura brand name will have an even greater difficulty justifying the price difference. Especially considering the MDX is being redesigned for 2006 and a 2005 will be out of date in less than 12 months.
For me personally, the dilemma is even greater. I got exceptional service from the Honda dealership in my S2000, certainly every bit as good or better than I have experienced with my two Acura's. And, for whatever reason, the MDX exterior style is not as attractive to me as the Lexus GX470, the Volvo XC90 or, for that matter, the less expensive Pilot.
It looks to me like the MDX will limp through 2005, awaiting what will need to be a substantial re-design. A very nice vehicle for sure, but just not nearly as price/value/feature competitive as it once was.
According to Automotive News , an industry trade paper. The 2006 MDX will not be redesigned but just freshed up (headlight or taillight change), MINOR changes, and this means that the body(sheet metal) will not be touched. The 2008 MDX will be redesigned , all new body etc. I am surprised , because I too was told that the 06 MDX would be totally redesigned. Automotive News is not sold on newstands but by subscription only , some libaries do have it. Reference 8/16/04 issue.
If that's true, I suspect it will be near fatal for the MDX. Can you say "RL"? My Acura dealer has a 2004 RL in his showroom that is now listed for $35,900 (sticker $46,500+). It wasn't a bad car 4-5 years ago, it just got completely leapfrogged, even by Acura's own TL.
Volvo is coming out with a high efficiency Yamaha V8 for its XC90, Lexus is upgrading the engine on the GX470, the Pilot is getting substantially more than a "face lift" for 2005. Almost every other competitive vehicle out there is already "fresher" than the MDX, even after their token headlight/taillight change for 2004. How many times does Acura think it can facelift the MDX before the consumer catches on?
IMO, the 2005 MDX cannot command an $8k premium over the 2005 Pilot simply through a bit more leather, fake wood trim and an extra year on the warranty. I'm considering SUV's that range in price from the $32k Pilot to the $50k Lexus GX470 to the $60k Cayenne S (I know, very impractical). So I could easily afford the $40k MDX if it offered real value over the Pilot. But I don't think it does and if it remains essentially unchanged for 2006, Acura is going to be giving them away.
P.S. We will be dumping our 1996 Trooper. Remember the gussied up version called the "SLX" that Acura tried to sell for about $10k more than the Trooper? Perhaps not. Acura sold about 11 of them nationally the last year they were made. You would think they might learn a lesson from trying to milk the Acura name without offering real value. Lexus and Infiniti learned similar lessons several years ago and seem to have gotten back on track.
P.P.S. Just to give credit where it's due, the Honda S2000 I owned offered EXCEPTIONAL value. The state of the art engineering that went into that limited edition hand built $32k car was truly amazing. The next closest competitor is the $60k Boxster S. So it's not like Acura lacks the ability to keep the MDX in a leadership position. It just needs to want to.
The MDX sales are not declining , are even with 03 sales. The days supply is only 33 days supply, which is below the 60 day average rates. Some SUV have over 100 day supply as of Aug.1 MDX sales are in the 50-60k per year range .
I just bought my MDX from a Tampa, FL dealership. I got the Sagebrush Pearl Touring model with no added accessories (I will be buying and installing some accessories on my own). I had internet/email offers from eight FL dealerships. $36,300 was the best offer though it was 2 hours away. My local dealership came through on $36,700, plus tax and tag and title. Not too bad of a deal I hope!!
Send me an e-mail(just click on my name) and I will give you the name of the Internet sales manager who is handling those transactions. I purchased mine fro him last year, and I have a co-worker who is getting a 2004 tl-w/nav from him next week, also for $350 over invoice.
I have been offered a deal on a 2004 MDX Touring w/Navi for $38157. Is that good? I really wanted XM, but can't imagine that I will get this good of a deal on a 2005, just to have the integrated XM. What are your thoughts? Anyone have any feedback on the heated seats? When I test drove, they didn't seem to get very warm.
Sounds like a good price to me. I was offerred that price at Lindsay Acura in Columbus, OH several months ago. None of the DC area dealers were matching this price.
For "taboo" - I find the heated seats to work very well (of course I live in Houston so my cold weather may not be cold to others). We rarely use the high setting. Note that the passenger seat only heats the seat itself because of the SRS sensor in the seatback.
For "inemer" - I am currently looking to buy either an RX330 or an FX35; to replace my TL-S (NOT the MDX). In my mind the MDX is the still the best all around 7-seat vehicle available. We are on our second MDX (recently traded an '01 for an '04) and love it. BUT it is our high capacity family car. IF one does not need the space the MDX offers then I'd certainly consider alternatives.
I have no problems with the RX330 and would buy it again. With all the small problems with the MDX, I am happy with the RX330.
Originally I wanted the MDX for its great looks and extra capacity (7 seater). My wife wanted a smaller SUV which would fit in the Garage. Since I already have a Odyssey, I went with the Lexus.
However you should choose what is good for your needs. Both have advantages and disadvantages. However the thing that really pushed me against the MDX is the rating in the KBB. Too many complaints for the MDX compared to the RX. Prasad
I have owned 2 MDX's (still own one) and am the Number 5 Poster on the web's top dedicated MDX Forum; so I know a little bit about MDX related problems. Its not perfect but its the best car I've ever owned and I consider it the best value on the market for a 7-seater.
As stated earlier, I am seriously considering trading my TL-S for an RX330 or an FX35 (so I am not bashing either one - I like them). What has been my biggest surprise in my research is how problem prone the Lexus RX is! I have been following two of the top dedicated Lexus Forums and have been disappointed to see the very high percentage of problem related threads. I can assure you the percentage of problem related threads to non-problem threads is MUCH higher for the RX than the FX or the MDX (it is a very simple exercise to do a Google Search for the specific forums and see for yourself).
I have also done thorough research on the two and gone through the forums. The biggest problem with RX in view is its slow transmission that can get you killed in heavy traffic. The lag behind throttle and torque response is slow that forces you into becoming a senior citizen driver! Lots of compalints on this on DOT website. In addition, the transmission seems to fall apart after 70K. No surprise that RX 330 tyrannies replacements are back ordered!!
I'm in the market for a 2004 MDX Touring w/ Nav. and looking for the best price to use for negotiating w/ nearby dealers here in NJ. Any suggstions? Also, any recommendations on NJ dealerships or ones to avoid?
Anybody know of any dealers willing to deal? Will go to Portland if need be. Have been getting run around on pricing all over the board. Have to trade in an 01 Suburban 2500 LT with all the bells and whistles. Chevy dealer offered me $20K for it, but I owe $23K. Acura dealers are telling me they don't want the Chevy because it's 2WD, and in Oregon, I guess you can't have that. Am looking for a less than $500 a month payment on a 48 mo. lease/12 mi./yr. as I don't intend to keep the vehicle after lease it up, I need low as possible payment. Whatever happened to dealing with Fleet Sales? Is Internet Sales supposed to be the same as Fleet at these Acura dealers? No exp. buying foreign brands. Thanks for any help. It's getting very frustrating. Last internet deal got me within $25 of my desired monthly payment, but the Internet guy would not meet my price and would rather, apparently, lose the entire deal over $25/mo. more. Sigh....
12bluex...live in Vista CA near Temecula. What model did you purchase? You say "premium" is that Base with NAV and DVD? If so may I congratulate you! Screaming deal! Who was your sales rep/ e-mail rep? Im not sure how to send you my email address but I know Im not supposed to on this spot...New to site. Thank you. scosh
The 05' MDX will have very little changes. The redesign MDX will be 06' model.
Up to date, the sale of MDX is down by 2000 units. 43,500 units manufactured compare to 45,100 units this time last year.
MDX wish list will be the 300 HP V6, new trans. with 6 speed, DVD/CD comb., bluetooth, Sat. Radio, new colors, new console, 2nd row seat folds flat to the floor, new and better leather interior like the RX330, improve Navigation system, larger moonroof, intellegent frontal detection.
I am interested in buying an 2004 or 2005 MDX or possibly a Honda Pilot. Does anyone know of any good deals out there? Also, pros and cons of the two different SUVs.
As of Sept. 1,2004 calendar yr. 04 sales are higher than 03 (slightly) in the USA. This is worth noting because most SUV sales are down this year some by 20% or more. Second , the MDX WILL NOT be totally redesigned for 06 , just freshed up (ie. new grill and or taillights, maybe a new dash etc.) but the body (sheet metal) will not be changed. I keep reading that the 06 will be a new model , but according to Automotive News , which is a trade paper with close sources to the automobile companies, the MDX will not have a major change until 2008.
Finally got the MDX, Touring w/ Nav and DVD, paid about $700 over invoice, excellent service from the internet dept. This might be a little more then other prices from Lindsey, but I don't have any delivery fees.
Premium is the Base Model. MDX has: Premium (Base) Touring (Bose, passenger memory seats, roof rack etc.) Touring with NAV Touring with DVD Touring with DVD+NAV
I can't post names/emails per rules here. However, if you just shoot several e-mails to local dealers via Acura website, you should get competitive deals, especially now with 2005 coming around the corner. You should be able to get the 2004 very close to invoice.
Thank you 12 bluex and the rest of you. I was able to get my MDX Touring with NAV, from Temecula dealer in CA. 42,000 out the door that included sales tax, licence, running boards, protection package. I used the e mail service and the telephone. I never went up there until I was ready to buy so that was convienent. I used not only the Edmunds prices, but this forum and the Consumer reports wholesale price,as well. The info here sure did help. They did pull the "I have the car you want, It is here" then it wasn't. I also had another dealer say that the Temecula dealer was lying....so watch out, the games are afoot....
You can get a 2004 MDX Touring version for $500 over invoice at both Springfield and Bridgewater Acura in NJ.
Also, here are the major changes for 2005: - Standard XM Satellite Radio - Acura HandsFreeLink Bluetooth wireless phone interface included in optional Touring Package - OnStar on all models equipped with navigation system - Larger fuel tank - Electronic Brake Distribution - In-Dash 6 Disc CD player on models equipped with Rear Entertainment System - Enhanced Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) system (active yaw control added) - Enhanced navigation system (quicker response time, additional voice recognition commands, more points of interest, ZAGAT Guide) - LEV-2 ULEV emissions system - 3 new exterior colors including Desert Rock Metallic, Billet Silver Metallic and Steel Blue Metallic
