That's not correct, there is a very large markup on accessories. If you want to check what is a reasonable price, go to www.handa.com. They stock all the Honda and Acura accessories and have prices posted. They are usually about 40% under dealer. You will have to install yourself, which usually isn't a problem, since they also have install instructions for almost everything. I got my dealer to install accessories for what the website posted the price to be for my '05 MDX.

Leoniv, we just bought an 05 MDX Premium for $33.7 over the phone. I live in CT but bought it in NY because CT charges a $300 Doc fee and NY doesn't. Plus, a lot of the dealers in CT and NY we spoke to over the phone and email were rude about even negotiating. They said we didn't know a good price when we saw one, blah, blah, blah. Hey, if I'm paying all this money for a car, I am going to search around for the best deal.

If you want a lower price, keep calling/emailing around.

mdx2005 according to edmunds acura has a 3% dealer hold back on the base MSRP.
  • leonivleoniv Member Posts: 120
Thanks for the reply and info. I'll keep searching.

Anyone purchase a MDX from either Alabama or Tennessee? I'm close to both states so trying to get an idea of their doc fees, if they have any.
  • alexashaalexasha Member Posts: 51
Well, I tried to deal with mississippi dealers. Wanted to buy MDX Touring with Nav with couple more options and extended warranty. They offered me ridiculos 44395, claiming that they HAVE to make at least 1000 on each car. Any way to counter that?
  • mdxorpilotmdxorpilot Member Posts: 1
$33.7 - wow - can you share the name of the dealership (its allowed by the rules of the message board) I live outside of Boston but am willing to go to NY for that price. What do you have to do about state taxes and title/license etc... if you bought from out of the state you live in...
  • bweechbweech Member Posts: 6
Yeah. Tell them they are already making over $1k just with the 3% dealer hold back even if they sell at invoice.

If you really want to buy local I would contact some dealers via email outside your area, maybe in nearby state to get some quotes and then ask you local dealer to match your best quote.

    Good luck.

I just got mine in bay area, california: 2005 MDX touring with navi, dvd at $39180, which is $1000 below invoice. I add all-season floor mat at $121 and running boards at $631 installed. dealer charge $45 for doc fee.

had no problem today buying an entry level MDX for 33,300. with roof rack and nothing else, had a number of dealers agreeing to this price. out the door for around 36,500 and it wasn't even hard. Just called the internet sales managers at my local acura dealers (san francisco peninsula area). Each one was willing to go lower than the last as soon as I provided specifics about what the last had commited too. I gave details as to which person at which dealership had offered what. So I worked my way down a couple hundred at a time.

very happy with "hopkins acura" in redwood city, CA. No run around and delivered just what they said on the phone. and financed most of it at 0.9%.

Thanks edmunds for the info that let me do this!
I got a better car than the honda pilots I had been considering--and with side curtain airbags in all the rows and for just a little more

I've been shopping mdx. Two ny dealerships have given me sign/drive for base model at 480/mo plus 50/mo for touring and 40/mo on top of that for nav. Guess that is the going rate. NY has the wonderful tax of 8.625 plus aquis fee of 1095.
Is this what most of you are hearing??

also, redesign is in 07 according to rallye acura

I finally got an 05 MDX Premium today after much searching/shopping with multiple dealers in the Atlanta area (also AL and TN dealers). It appears dealers in the Atl. area are not as willing to deal on the MDX's like other areas of the country. If you even ask them for invoice they turn you down immediately. I finally found a dealer (the only one) willing to let me drive out for $36,897 which included 7% sales tax and $399 doc fee (other fees were small, $21 for tag/title, $3 for lemon law). He also threw in a "free" roof rack (inlcluding labor). I basically got the truck for $300 over invoice then he threw in the roof rack. He beat the prices for the side molding/running boards from hondacuraworld so I was happy. Definitely not the deals like up north or out west, but the best I could get in a town full of suburbanites. Next closest price was $37,100 drive-out from another dealer in Atlanta. TN (Chattanooga) and AL (Birmingham) were a waste of time. They wouldn't even touch the prices I got from dealers in Atl. While I was @ the dealership waiting for the papers to process, the queue to get financing was a few hours. They had no shortage of demand for the X so I can see why they don't need to come down. Other dealers in Atl were the same way, cars we liked were gone within a day or two. Also, the 1.9% over 48 months is nice too (special financing good thru June). Glad it's over, now just ready to enjoy our new MDX. :D

Thanks to this great site and discussion we finally got the MDX this weekend. After looking at the prices paid by some of the people here in SoCal we got a Silver with Ebony with Navigation and DVD, wheel locks, mud guards, running boards and all weather mats for $39,750. We also got the 0.9% financing deal. I think we did well. We were debating between the pilot and the MDX for a while and with the current prices/finance deals and the extra toys made us go for the X. So far we are enjoying the new MDX. I am having a lot of fun playing with the voice commands and the nav. Bluetooth is great but phone book integration between the phone and the nav unit would have been sweet.

i just bought an MDX today. I purposely waited until 8:30pm on the last day of May. Got a base MDX out the door for $35,600 TOTAL. I'm pretty stoked about it. It took 10 minutes over the phone.
  • helen001helen001 Member Posts: 12
I've replied to this board several times but they keep taking my messages off. I bought a base MDX for $33,700 at Heart Acura. I tried leave my email address here also but they took it off. I paid an additional $205 for title/registration plus $10 & $12.50 in other fees. Still cheaper than the $299 conveyance fee CT charges plus other fees.

Please post your message with the dealership name, city.
    Thank you

    Hi Concaruser,

I got mine in San Francisco Bay Area, which is N. California. the dealer is Los Gatos Acura which is located at Los Gatos, California. I contacted the fleet manager which you can find from their website.
The fleet manager originally gave a quote at $39380. the price I paid for rinning boards and floor mats seem little bit high. let me know if more infor needed.

I have been quoted $334.20 (body molding) and $893.90 (fender flairs) for a new MDX Touring...this price is installed. Is this fair? With these accessories the total quote comes to $37,995.10 + tax. Is this in line with what others have been getting? Thank you for your help.
  • leonivleoniv Member Posts: 120
I got my body molding + installation for only $195 from the dealer. $334.20 is way overpriced. I didn't get fender flares, but that price sounds high too.
  • fish2575fish2575 Member Posts: 23
So your $35,600 included tax and licensing? Do you know what the price on the car was before taxes and license? You have 7.5% tax right?
  • ca179ca179 Member Posts: 3
Thanks for the info. Right now I am dealing with folks from Columbus, GA. Which dealership did you deal with? Also, when you say MDX Premium what does that mean to you? Touring with Nav and DVD? Just Touring? Lastly, will you breakdown you purchase price again with all the fees and things? Thanks for your help.

In the process of getting online quotes from various Acura dealers, my path crossed an online rep for Island Acura on Long Island, NY Cosmo Clemente.
He had previously given me a quote and when I came back with a quote from another dealer things got ugly. His reply to my email was:

"My payment is LESS than xxxx's. It's $491.00 Didn't you read my first e-mail??"
Opps my fault was my 1st thought, then he follows up with another email:
"NO WAY you're getting the MDX with only the 1st payment for $510.00 for 36 months from xxxx. Good Luck when you go to pick up your MDX at that price"

Maybe I'm a little sensitive, but why would anyone want to spend their hard earned $$$ at a dealer that treats customers that way? I can imagine how he'll treat/talk to me AFTER I've given him my $$$.
STAY AWAY FROM ISLAND ACURA in NY
  • leonivleoniv Member Posts: 120
Columbus, GA huh? I know that area pretty well. I grew up there, but live in Atl. now. I never got a quote from the Columbus dealer while shopping. I dealt with Nalley Acura in Marietta, GA, just north of Atlanta. Out of the Atlanta dealers, Nalley was most willing to deal and give you a great price on the phone. MDX Premium means I got the base model, no Touring Package (Touring Package is required for DVD or Nav so I have neither). I don't have the papers in front of me, but I do remember my negotiated drive-out price as $36,897 with a mounted roof rack thrown in (roof racks don't come with Premium models). I added running boards ($575 installed) and body molding ($195 installed) before I drove out so total drive-out was around $37.7 after all the accessories were added. Other than the Doc fee ($399), the rest of the fees were minimal, $3 Lemon Law, and around $41 for tag/title. Good luck.

    Raphster,

I just picked up my MDX at Island Acura on Wednesday. I had an EXCELLENT Experience. I did a sign and drive at $479/mo for the Premium (Base Model). My salesman was amazing!!! No pressure, just understanding. Guess you just had a bad experience!!! I even got a box of brownies last night.
  • p_gp_g Member Posts: 3
Hi Bruce9, I got it from Acura of Mission Viejo. Small dealership which was very recently bought by Norm Reeves. Very nice people.

Interested in purchasing an MDX with NAV +/- the DVD entertainment system.
As per Edmunds, Invoice for NAV is $38260. A dealer mentioned there was a $200 invoice increase? Second, which DVD system do readers recommend? Audiovox vs Acura. Price paid. Thank you.
  • sonyswsonysw Member Posts: 34
I purchased the car today for tha above price. It seems they are selling around $1000 below invoice for sage brush. The invoice price is $39200. The lease deal for Acura is excellent. They used the Honda lease company with residual value of $24,300. Initially want to get Odessey but the one with Nav is hard to get. It ends up almost the same for lease price because of the residual value.
Out the door $931 (license, tax and frist month payment) with $514 (with tax monthly) for 36 month. What do you think ?
  • mdxfanmdxfan Member Posts: 1
They're a bunch of cheaters. I'll write more details later this week.
  • goterps1993goterps1993 Member Posts: 3
$35600 was total out the door, including taxes, tags, freight, processing fees, etc. i'm in md so the tax is 5%. i'm not sure what the price was before all of that. the reason i usually give them an out the door price is because i've run into situations where mysterious unknown "processing fees" show up where it then doesnt really matter what the price was before all of that. hope that helps. if you want, i can still check the price, but you can probably figure it out going backwards. it was close to $33500 which was a few hundred under invoice.
  • raphsterraphster Member Posts: 13
    slccpa,
Sorry to say this, but I believe you over paid.
the $510 quote was for a sign and drive for the touring model
the $30 diff translates to roughly $1,000 more on the cost of the vehicle.
I guess the price I got was too low for Island Acura to match and being rude is thier way of saying so.
  • melaniebmelanieb Member Posts: 9
goterps1993 - What dealer did you use? I'm talking to a bunch in the metro DC area.
  • otomikotomik Member Posts: 2
Guess I should add my two cents worth since prices seem to vary from region to region.
Two weeks ago, I just purchased a 2004 with Nav., trailer pkg., and 24K miles--the dealer's courtesy vehicle from a No. Calif. dealer. No haggling and got it for $31K.
He offered to sell me the extended warranty for $100 over cost, but I declined.

Just two days earlier, I purchased a one-way ticket (from Sacramento) to an Orange County Acura dealer that said he had a '03 that was Acura certified. It turned out being a piece of crap. They wouldn't even pay for my return air flight.

Beware--Not all certified Acura vehicles are truly certified by Honda Motor Corp. Some dealers claim it is just to avoid selling to wholesalers, or they are into it too much. Make sure you pick a dealer with a reputable service and sales dept.
I've worked in dealership for over 15 years and know the ins and outs.
