Thanks to all the tips on this forum, I was finally able to secure a billet silver/ebony touring MDX with NAV/ DVD in Connecticut..err...New York. The best price (with destination) I could secure around the Hartford, Connecticut area was $ 40,350, slightly above the Edmunds and Carsdirect invoice price of $ 40,180. All I received were uncomfortable pauses on the telephone when I spoke about the $1500 dealer incentive and they would not budge on the price. Following the earlier messages, I got in touch with Heart Acura located just across the state border who offered $38,800 for the vehicle. This was close enough for me as I wanted to get the vehicle for this weekend road trip.
To make a long story short, I placed a deposit over the phone on Tuesday, secured Honda financing for 2.9% and then picked up the vehicle Friday. The internet manager was very easy to deal with over the phone and was very solicitous and helpful when I went there to finalize the deal. It was a different experience from other dealerships (like Toyota) where there was the inevitable, "let me talk to my manager about that" or other shenanigans we have all been used to. The mood at the dealership was very calm, quiet, almost meditative. The experience was very pleasant and I would recommend to other members in the Northeast to try this dealership as other posters above have suggested.
Lastly, I was having second thoughts about the ebony interior versus the quartz interior (ie. looks, heat issues etc) but after driving the vehicle yesterday, the ebony interior IMHO is very sharp looking and had no heat issues as the climate control is very powerful. The quartz interior IMHO, does not go along well with the faux wood trim in the vehicle and also seems too plasticky in some places (especially in the two toned areas).
Overall, this vehicle is an excellent value and for the current below invoice prices, cannot be beat especially with the excellent financing offers ( Imagine the Lexus RX330 being offered for the same price as this vehicle without the idiot proof navigation system, rear DVD, third row seats etc). I am extremely happy with this buy and hope all you guys will be too. :shades:
Going to lease a 2005 MDX Touring with navi in the next 3 days. Anyone had a good experience/great deal to share. Any dealer who did a deal that gave the incentive kickback?
I just got back from Pohanka. I got an MDX w/nav and dvd, for $38,500 including tax, title, and fees. Looks like the post above talking about Pohanka offering crazy deals was true! Thanks to everyone on the board for the information shared.
In WA dealers are still stuck above invoice, whereas one of my friend in Bay area is getting 2000 below or more. I am wondering about the thought but not sure what happens with the taxes. I know if I buy from OR then it is not an issue since we dont pay anything to OR and we pay the taxes to WA DMV. However CA dealer says that they will charge all the taxes and then we get credit in WA for the taxes paid. I wonder if any one has similar situation and generally what is the norm? Are there any extra overlap taxes that might offset the gains? Experience with other states will also help? Thanks
Honestly, I don't remember the breakdown. During negotiations, I only dealt with bottom line, out the door pricing. It was up to them to figure out what to apply towards the car, destination, title, etc. You could back the 3% sales tax out of it, and subtract the $570 destination, to get a ballpark idea. I would guess my price was probably right around $36.5K - $37K, before the fees.
It was both Navi and DVD. Sticker price on it was $45,500. Chevy Chase Acura was offering me the same deal (they initiated it), but Pohanka matched, and were closer to me. I have found it best to bargain with out the door prices, including tax, title, etc. Let the dealer worry about backing it out to figure out what they are letting the car go for. That way you don't put yourself at risk for junk fees. I started my offers to the dealers over email, but putting what I thought was a ridiculously low offer to them. It was by chance that one of them accepted, and I had the other dealer match it.
I just checked my sticker price. MSRP was $43,975, and w/destination, it came to $44,545.
After negotiating this, I added side moldings and the cargo cover, bringing my final out the door price to $38,900. They did not deal on the accessories, so I paid the regular price on them.
I was told that had I not gone through the internet department, I would not have gotten such a good price. Also, with the incentives ending at the end of the month, this price will not be good after June 30, when the $1500 incentive expires. Hope this helps.
By the way, Rosenthal would have matched and beaten the lowest price by $200. It wasn't worth my time to go too far from home.
Anyone from Southern California/Greater Los Angeles area who got a deal below invoice. Or got some of the dealer incentive passed back?
I am going to get an MDX on lease in the next couple of days. So tips and pointers are appreciated. If it was leased what was the finance terms (money-factor).
Armed with the $1500 off of invoice info and knowing what others have been paying- thanks to this message board, I called some Internet Sales managers in the Boston Area. Felt much more in the driver seat doing it via phone. Acura of Boston Internet Sales Manager (listed at Acura.com) provided the best price after some negotiation. For $32,400 price includes: MDX base, with roof rack installed, all season floor mats, cargo cover and cargo tray. The Doc prep of $193.75 and TTL not included.
Internet Sales Manager provided a verbal offer and when we got to the dealership they honored the price and after the test drive the paperwork was completed. Acura of Boston was very easy to deal with and we had a good experience.
I'm selling my "04 MDX sagebrush pearl touring w/ nav, running boards (bars), in perfect condition and just under 10k miles. I want to set a fair price and according to Edmunds, the TMV for this car is $34,374. I would imagine my car might appeal to someone who is about to buy a new vehicle but is willing to buy a slightly used one to save a few bucks. Do you think 34,374 is fair? I thought it seemed a little high since people are apparently getting new MDX's under invoice. Thanks for any input on this. In case anyone is wondering, I'm selling it because my wife finally realized that a minivan is a better vehicle for us, with a two year old and a 5 week old.
2. Go to www.hondacuraworld.com, and PRINT out their accessory price sheet.
3. Take the sheet with you to the dealer, and ask them to meet the price(the dealer prices are more than hondacuraworld's).
4. If they do, them make sure that they only charge you the regular labor rate for installation(you can go to the service dept. and ask them what the hourly rates are)
5. If they will not meet the price, then order the parts from hondacuraworld(free shipping) and either A- Install them yourself(you can download the instructions from the hondacuraworld site), or B- go to ANY Acura dealer service dept. and have them install for you.
Hi All, Was just doing some research on Acura financing, and read the terms on the 0.9% offer they have going on. In there, it says as an example, $42.06 a month for every $1000 financed. Is it just me, or does that work out to $505 a year or 50.5% interest??? Someone please tell me what I'm missing here...
Hi, Thanks for the answer. If you read my question again, you'll see that I did check the Edmund's TMV and it seems high to me, but I'll go ahead and list it at that price and see what happens.
First - I want to thank everyone that submitted their valuable information to this forum. I stumbled across this forum just days before my purchase of a Honda Pilot EXL, and because of this site and the information it provided allowed me to make a very informed buying experience of a Base MDX instead. Also, it saved me tons of money. I chose the MDX over the Pilot EXL for a couple of reasons: 48 month/50K mile warranty roadside assistance loaner car for servicing/repairs side curtain airbags drive/comfort/trim/luxury
The difference in out the door price was $4,300. I felt like I got a lot more for my money with the MDX - although I recognize the Pilot is an Awesome vehicle itself.
My purchase price (including $570 destination) was $32,563. It came with All Weather mats and cargo tray and had 14 miles on it. The final break down was: $32,563 Purchase Price $977 3% NC Tax $398 Dealer Doc/Junk fees $ 62 Tag/Registration $34,000 Out the Door in NC
I did what everyone said. I called the dealerships that they referenced and received phenomenal quotes. Then feeling confident, I called the Acura dealership here in Raleigh, NC (Leith Acura) and they gave me a beautiful song and dance about how other areas of the US may be in repressed markets and that is why they were discounting so deeply. Finally they gave me a purchase price of something ridiculous like $33,800 which would have made my out the door price somewhere around $35,500. Also, that price would only apply to in stock vehicles of which they did not have my Black and Tan. I was obviously an informed buyer to this dealer and I couldn't believe that he was so confident that his car should cost more than others no matter what distance they were away. It was an insult to my intelligence. I called 3 dealerships within an hour and a half drive and they all had it in stock. Fayettville Acura agreed to $34,000 out the door over the phone. 2 hours later, I was on my way back home to Raleigh driving my brand new MDX (in the rain ).
Fayettville Acura exceeded my expectations in every way and I can't recommend them enough.
I realize my deal was not as sweat as some others around the country, but it kept me from taking too much of my valuable time to travel to pick it up. Good luck to others in their pursuit and purchase of this awesome SUV.
Say you finance 30k at 0.9% over 36 mos. Your payments would be $844.95/mo. Multiply that by 36 mos. and you get total out-of-pocket for the life of the loan to be $30,418.07. Subtract $30k from that total and you get $418.07 in total interest paid over those 3 years. Divide $418.07 by 36 mos. and you get $11.61 of interest paid per month, on average. I say average b/c you pay for most of your interest up front (like your mortgage). You would have to look at an ammortization chart to get the real breakdown. For example, on a 5 year car loan, the last year is all principle so no point in paying the loan off early after 4 years. Hope this helps.
ok, not sure i get it quite yet -- understood everything you wrote, but the key question is, where are they getting the $42.06/month for every $1000 financed? are you saying perhaps that that's the payment amount, _not_ the interest amount? let's see -- for $30k financed then that would make it a $1200/month payment... still doesn't seem right, does it? maybe they're giving a 24-month example?
I came in right between you both, bought my Black on Black MDX Base last Thursday, could have got a Silver with Black from the local deal and he had lower doc fees but the wife likes black on black, she says it has more attitude :surprise:
$32,300 MDX Base (invoice less $1,500) $ 253 roof rack $ 1,953 PA sales tax $ 129 doc fee $ 61 PA tags $34,696 Out the door
Used it yesterday to bring home a crib for the the new addition (is it just me or do other people buy new cars when they have a new kid?).
Plenty of cargo space, but sadly I left the tailgate up after unloading and while I was upstairs in the nursery following the easy to read assembly instructions my dear old Pop (he and Mom are here to help with the baby) closed the garage door resulting in a $350 scrape on my new MDX liftgate
Looks like the car was christened before the baby....
mdx4me1, so the price was quoted by Chevy Chase Acura, and Pohanka matched? Did you talk with Radley? Sorry for so many questions - I want to wrap this up tonight.
Yes, Chevy Chase quoted the price, and Pohanka matched. I didn't get to speak with Radley, as I got a price I didn't expect to get, and wanted to buy from a dealer close to home.
If you do not get the price you want, and if you can, wait until Thursday evening (last day of the month), and you will most likely get the price you want, or much closer to it. I've done this in the past, and it has worked beautifully. 4 more days may save you a few hundred dollars. But, you risk getting a specific color in case they are gone by then.
Hello all, Please help me evaluate this offer: (western NY)
Interest rate: 4.5
$35,200 purchase price-this seemed high to me based on this forum and carsdirect.com
3 yr lease 15k miles/yr 3984 down (inc tax, 1st payment) 425/month 61% residual
they also offered the same deal with 1958 down, but the monthly price went to 487 per month. Over the 3 yrs this works out to be more expensive by a couple hundred dollars.
I want to counter offer but am not sure how much lower is reasonable.
Also there is only one acura dealer in my area, the one an hour and half away said he could not beat this deal.
I was planning to lease the base model and our negotiated purchase price for the car was $34,112 so you can probably go lower. We decided to purchase because the current $1500 dealer incentive only applies to purchased vehicles. So you might not be able to get as low a price on a lease as some of the other people on the site are getting for purchases. As for the lease I don't, it seems like a high amount to put down. At our total purchase price of $34,395.50 (the $34,112 plus $283.50 for an installed roof rack our numbers were:
3 yr 12k miles (I know that 15k miles a year makes the monthly amount higher) $2611 down (includes doc fee, TTL, first month, and Sec. deposit) $407 a month 63% residual .00178 money factor
I wonder if anyone noticed that in www.hondacuraworld.com there are two body side molding, one regular and another wider. The prices are slightly higher for wider. Do we know that whether that is a legacy from previous model years or do we have two different option for the 2005 MDX.
I tried to look for the 2.9% financing deal on the Acura website but all I find is the 0.9% (24-36 mo). Was this offered to you or did you ask for it? I live in Fairfax, VA...about 10 minutes from Pohanka Acura.
They could be using a 60-month loan as an example b/c in that scenario you would be paying more interest per month due to the longer loan term and higher APR. Not sure where they got their numbers. I just plug the numbers into Excel and get the payment. Also, I'm sure Edmunds has a payment calculator somewhere.
I wonder if anyone noticed that in www.hondacuraworld.com there are two body side molding, one regular and another wider. The prices are slightly higher for wider. Do we know that whether that is a legacy from previous model years or do we have two different option for the 2005 MDX.
Not only noticed but have bought both types. The thin BSM is indeed a legacy from the 2002 model year. The wide BSM was introduced in 2004. For those colors that span the years both were made, the owner would indeed have a choice of two BSMs; however not all colors have this option.
FWIW - I prefer the wide BSM :shades: We had the thin BSM on our old '01 Mahagony and we have the wide on our current '04 Sage Brush.
Kudos to everyone on the board!! I got my MDX for $36,830 ($2K under invoice, destination included) last Sunday night. Although it is not as good as the deal in N Virginia. But it is good enough in bay area and got pretty good deal on the accessories also. Here is the price break down.
Touring with NAV Sale Price: $36,830 Accessories: $370 (labors included) 1. Cargo Cover P/N 08U35-S3V-210(Black) (hondacuraworld price: $116.70) 2. Cargo Net P/N 08L96-S3V-200 (hondacuraworld price: $37.70) 3. Cargo Tray (hondacuraworld price: $102.70) 4. Floor Mats-All Season (hondacuraworld price: $97.50) 5. Wheel Locks (hondacuraworld price: $35.50) 6. Chrome Side Steps P/N 08L3-S3V-200D P/N (hondacuraworld price: $487.50)
And I also got 0.9% 36months financing from Honda. According to the finance manger. The general rule of thumb to qualify for this is the monthly payment doesn't exceeds 20% of your gross monthly income.
Short story of my buying process and experience: Send out requests for quotes stating I knew about the $1500 rebate and special financing from Honda last week. I got 2 quotes back. One from San Jose with $2K under invoice, the other one from Colma with $38150 chrome sidestep included. Since the dealer from Colma is much more closer, so I asked the dealer from Colma to beat the price from San Jose. He reply back with a quote of $37,236.25 sidestep included. Then I made him a final offer of $37,200 with All of the above accessories installed. He accepted the offer. Here I am a proud MDX owner. Good luck, everyone.
I had an offer for the MDX Touring w/NAV & RES for $39,679 plus $399 documentation fee. That's a total of $40078. I did not take this because of the distance from me. It's at Flow Motors, Winston-Salem, NC.
Hello I just wanted to clarify. The deal I got was invoice minus a 1000.. Still a great deal. Very happy with our new MDX and the service we got at Heart Acura.
I picked up my silver/black mdx/nav/dvd for 38700 yesterday. negotiated on the internet, mentioned about 1500 incentive.
when i went to pick up the vehicle, dealer politely honored the price, no hidden charge, and only $55 document fee, and as a courtesy act, they included floor mats and wheel locks without having me asking it.
overall very nice and friendly buying experience. now this is a good business model. they surely get me as a lifetime customer.
went out of the door with the new mdx in 2 hours!!
I have heard that the $1500 incentive in over on the 30th, is that true?
I am looking at a black/touring with no Nav/DVD. It has a clear bra only at -$495.00 Sticker is : $40,650 I was given the price by the internet manager of $36,650 I thought I would offer $35,000 + 295 prep.
Does that sound like a good deal? What should be the MAX I would pay for this car.?
it is Piazza Accura in Ardmore, PA. I had to pay NY Tax since I register the vehicle in NY. Therefore, I paid tax on the difference between 38700 and my trade-in. I believe that TTL was included also.
The dealership was very professional and well-mannered. I never felt mis-treated or ripoffed. It was such a sharp contrast to the NY/NJ dealers who wouldn't drop their prices, trashed my trade-in value, refused to acknowledge the 1500 rebate, added huge (and many) bullsh*t charges once you go to their dealers.
I called back each and single one of the NY/NJ dealers today, and shoved the deal up their @ss, shutting up on all those "impossible, absolutely not a single cent lower, and blah blah bs from those salespeople". that felt so good.

Just wanted to clarify. Was this an MDX with Navi and DVD or Navi only?
Sorry so many questions but I want the same vehicle in the DC area. Thanks!

And I also got 0.9% 36months financing from Honda. According to the finance manger. The general rule of thumb to qualify for this is the monthly payment doesn't exceeds 20% of your gross monthly income.
Short story of my buying process and experience:
Send out requests for quotes stating I knew about the $1500 rebate and special financing from Honda last week. Good luck, everyone.

when i went to pick up the vehicle, dealer politely honored the price, no hidden charge, and only $55 document fee, and as a courtesy act, they included floor mats and wheel locks without having me asking it.

I am looking at a black/touring with no Nav/DVD.
It has a clear bra only at -$495.00
Sticker is : $40,650
I was given the price by the internet manager of $36,650
I thought I would offer $35,000 + 295 prep.
Does that sound like a good deal? What should be the MAX I would pay for this car.?
