    MDXMEW:

The primary variable factors in a lease are:

1.) Vehicle Sales Price: In your instance, you know the Invoice Price ($35,785), you know the destination fee ($570), you are aware of the manufacturer to dealer incentive ($1,500) that you can get the dealer to pass onto you, and you should be aware of the "holdback" amount, which is an additional 2-3% of the MSRP ($800-$1,200) that the manufacturer will pay to the dealer upon the dealer getting that vehicle off of his lot and out of inventory. A low lease payment starts with a well negotiated sales price.

2.) Vehicle Residual Percentage: You state that in your deal it is 63% for a 36 month lease at 15,000 per year. That sounds like a very generous item on behalf of the dealer. I was under the impression that Acura MDX was at about 55% residual on a similar deal structure. Acura's book has it at 53%. [Obviously, the higher the residual percentage, the lower amount of depreciation you are paying for and therefore the lower your monthly payment.] In your case, Acura is stating that upon lease termination, the Acura MDX will have a market value of 63% of the original MSRP. Therefore, Acura will be asking you as the lessee to pay for 37% of the MSRP as the depreciation of the vehicle. Take MSRP, multiply by 37% and then divide by the length of the lease (36 months) to get the depreciation portion of your lease payment.

3.) Money Factor: Next to price, this may be the most subjective variable in the equation. Money Factor is used to calculate the portion of your monthly payment that is the financing portion or the "carry cost" for the unused portion of the vehicle's value over the life of the lease. As a simple rule of thumb, you may simply multiply the Money Factor by twenty four (24) in order to convert the Money Factor into a simple interest rate that we all understand. As a reasonable range; I would be suprised if your interest rate was less than 4.5% and it really should not be greater than 6.25%.

4.) Fees and Costs: Each dealer is different on how much horse trading or negotiating they will do on Acquisition Fees, Lease Administration Fees, Document Fees, Processing Fees, Security Deposits, etc. Bottom Line: try to minimize each.

MDXMEW, based upon what you have told me to date about vehicle costs, trade ins, taxes, etc. I would say that an aggressively priced lease for you would be in the $430 to $450 per month range.

Does anyone have any suggestion about LoJack for MDX? They are trying to sell me the LoJack for $700. Wondering if I should get it? Please help...

Also Extended Warranty, anyone have experience with that?
  • skigreatskigreat Member Posts: 6
Someone would have to explain to me what LoJack does over and beyond OnStar which already comes with the car. Besides, if your car's stolen, do you really want it back after they trash it?

You should budget for maintenance and repair of your vehicle for as long as you own it. Very few things you spend on keeping a car on the road is going to be covered by (extended) warranty.

Looking for a Touring "NO" DVD or Nav. in the DFW area. Does anyone know if the $1500 dealer rebate is still going on or if the 2.9% financing will still be available through July.
  • sailorbearsailorbear Member Posts: 1
gman65, $1500 dealer incentive and 0.9% financing will expire on 07/05. So I think you still have Tuesday. But who knows what new programs Honda will run after this. After all, August and September is the clearance time when dealers have to get rid of 2005 cars for 2006 ones.

Hey Skigreat, how's your MDX? Enjoying it? I have a question for you. Like I said before, I put an and order over the phone on Friday, but it seems I won't be getting my car until this coming Friday but the dealer is asking me to sign and fax back forms so they can luck in the program (1500 off and 0.9). But I do have a little funny feeling about this. After all, who can trust car sales / dealer? How did you feel about Ramsey? I wonder should I just go to other dealer more local instead of waiting??

    Everyone, feel free to advice...

I just bought an 05 MDX w/NAV from Montclair Acura. I called the dealership to check if they had the color combo I wanted. Sure enough, they had it in stock. I named my price $38,080 and requested 2.9% financing for 60 months. The sales guy agreed and they faxed me a credit app. I faxed it back to them along w/ my insurance info and DL. I made an appt to pick up the MDX 2 hours later. During that time, the dealer prepped the MDX for delivery (wash and vac). I had to sign all the paperwork at the dealership. It took 3 hours from when I walked in the dealership to when I drove away. Of course, the finance sales guy trys to sell you various add-ons like LoJack, payment insurance (in case you lose your job), and other maintenance items, but I declined all of them. This was by far the easiest car buying experience. I was able to shave about an hour or so off the entire process by negoiating on the phone and faxing my info to them.

  • fun6889fun6889 Member Posts: 27
You sure did have the best deal. Can't believe your #. Sounds like the dealer is giving you the car for free. How did you got that price? Did you know someone there?
  • mdxmewmdxmew Member Posts: 8
I'm being told that Acura can't work with invoice pricing less the $1500 rebate good through today. However I've seen other posts showing invoice less rebates so I know they can do it. Any suggestions as to how I get a good deal?
  • mdxmangtamdxmangta Member Posts: 12
Call every dealer as far north/south/east/west as you can practically drive or go... once you get a good price then use that as the baseline and works towards closer dealers... you can get a feel which ones are likely to negotiate...
Sometimes it might work ... if not fly out ... try to finish paperwork today so you get the financing and price?

Else wait till September or so and hopefully there may be some better offers for 05 once 06 is out ...

I sent out an e-mail today proposing the following to a number of dealers in the Atlanta area:

    Acura MDX (Black/Pearl White)
    Saddle Interior
Touring, Navigation and DVD Entertainment Packages
Price: $40,000 (including tax, tag and title. "Out of the Door Price")

Is this an unfair offer? I have been turned down by one dealership so far, and although I want a good deal, I don't want to be unfair in my proposals. I think the MDX is a great value at that price point. When you start moving north of this number, other luxury SUV's start giving the MDX some pretty stiff competition (BMW X5, Volvo SUV, the new Landrover, etc.), but if I can can get the MDX at this price, I think I will have made a good purchase. Thoughts?

    Fastlyf,

You can do better. I purchased mine for $38,500 Out the Door, including everything. I had nav and dvd on mine. This was in the Northern VA area, and I had 2 dealers accepting that price. I basically sent several dealers my email, stating I wanted the MDX in a specific color, with NAV and DVD, and was willing to pay $38500, including tax, title, etc. If they agree, I would pick it up over the weekend. One dealer agreed, and another then matched that price.

Just bought an MDX Touring Silver/Ebony (no Navi or RES) w/ running boards and BSM - got it for $896 below invoice. Other quotes in upper midwest area were $1,120, $824 and $350 below invoice and one for $951 above invoice.

Thanks for the fast response MDX4me1. I was hoping that I wold hear that. I received the first refusal and got worried that I wouldn't be able to pull it off. My only issue now is whether there will be a substantial MDX update for 2006. If the body stays the same, I'll take the plunge. I don't know if I can wait until September for the care. If I can get a 2005 in the high 30's, I'll do it now. Anyone else out there torn on whether to buy now or roll the dice and wait?
  • mdx4me1mdx4me1 Member Posts: 25
The new MDX will not be out until the '07 model, in about 1 year. I know someone on the inside who told me this. So basically the '06 should be pretty much unchanged (my opinion). Also, I doubt you will get a good price and financing on an '06. Thats why I took the plunge.

Let me know how it turns out.
  • bsg64bsg64 Member Posts: 7
Thanks to all - this forum really helped me make sure I got a fair deal on my new MDX (signed the papers a few hours ago and pick it up tomorrow). Here are the details:

MDX Touring plus NAV (Sage w/Graphite Interior)

    Price: $37,000
    Title, doc, reg: $263.75
Tax: $1,235.00 (note - tax rate in MA is 5%, this is net of $12,300 for my trade)
    Total: $38,498.75

Not the best deal out there, but pretty good. Thanks again.

Hey fastlyf, I too, like you, tried to deal at my local dealer here in NYC and was turned away at $40K out the door for a #189. That was my limit and I was expecting the dealer to take it, but I guess not. I'm sure they're still making decent money at that price. Guess it's time to wait till the 06 model to come out to try to deal for an 05 again. It's been an interesting experience. Good luck to the rest of you. My 8 month old son is just gonna have to make due in our civic coupe. LOL. :)

Sorry fun6889, I didn't get back to you earlier. But, I don't hang out here everyday, now that I have my MDX. I faxed in the signed credit app and they faxed me the contract including the VIN.
I've been babying the MDX, but there's so much technology in the thing, I would have to study the manual for sometime now. Don't you miss the days when you get into a brand new car you already knew everything there is to know?
  • fastlyffastlyf Member Posts: 6
Broke Dude: That's too bad. Here is my basic scenario: I sent out the e-mail offer today and had the one negative response. I visited a local dealership in Atlanta where I am located, and was thinking of buying last weekend. The guy at the dealership gave me a price that I saw from the boards was a bit high, and I kept my distance. I called him today and he seemed a bit surprised. I told him the exact offer I made to everyone and added that I had some indications of interest (which was technically true . . . although it would have meant a bit of a drive). I caught him in a bit of a bind because I pointed out that despite my good credit, he failed to offer me the 2.9% rate that was available. He was surprised that I knew about that. He suggested that he'd see what he could do and that he'd call back.

I immediately called another dealership and explained everything (including the omission of things like the 2.% financing option and the $1500 dealer incentive. I made it clear that I was tired of games and was willing to deal with someone ready to give me a straight deal. He said he'd call me back tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes on both fronts.

I think information is power and may really be able to assist some on the board by keeping a real record of our experiences. This is the most expensive car I have ever purchased so it is a big deal for me. Any help is definitely appreciated.

First, thanks to everyone who posted here. The information was relative, factual, and helpful. I only dealt with four dealers and had hoped to end up purchasing from the one located only one mile from my home, but they would not match. So, I drove 100 miles to pick up my new Silver Billet Ebony Interior MDX Touring Navi with spoiler, all-season mats, clear coat bra, and cargo tray for $38,181+TTL. I bought from the dealer in Colorado Springs. They were wonderful and professional. I may even drive down for many of my bigger services. It was very nice to return 100 miles in my new MDX--my first road trip. Unfortunately, where I live sales tax is 8.16% so that hit hard. I financed about half of the cost at 1.9% over 48 months. I don't think these same deals will be around tomorrow, but there seem to be a lot of MDX's on the lots. Some dealerships evidently have policies that just won't let them deal to an extreme limit so don't hold it against those dealers. Just go somewhere else. It's similar to Nordstrom's having a $39.95 sale on nice button-down white shirts. I'm not going somewhere else and pay $69.95. The only thing that disappointed me is that I had taken my 1990 Legend LS to the dealer close to my home for over six years and felt there was a relationship there (for all needs)--evidently not. There is nothing quite like the aromatherapy of the inside of a new automobile to keep you smiling. I hope this little bit of information helps some other people navigate the purchase. I really felt I owed the entire group my thoughts. Now, as someone else said, "Now, let's figure out how to operate all the new gagets."
  • bigdaddy7bigdaddy7 Member Posts: 2
Don't be afraid of the internet. All four people I talked with at the Colorado Springs dealership were very aware of my offer, what I wanted, and made me feel like they knew me even though we had only met over the internet and telephone. I felt I could trust them implicitly. So, don't just look at the price I got. They really WON my business by their sincere interest. In the end, they could have been a little higher and I probably still would have made the drive.

    Fun6889,
I don't know anyone at the delearship. Some one else in the past posted on this forum about the delear and the price they bought it for and hence I called the same delear and mentioned the price and bargained a little bit to get to this price. Thanks again to this forum in helping me get my MDX at a good price.

Where is the dealer that you went to?
  • fastlyffastlyf Member Posts: 6
Here is the latest offer on the table after much negotiation between two dealers:

2005 Black/Saddle leather MDX with Touring, Nav, DVD and Protection Packages

$41,900 out of the door (including 5% tax, tags and title)

I will also get the 2.9% financing assuming I qualify (I know they may use this to get over on me so I'll get confirmation before going in for the purchase).

That gives me a fully loaded version for somewhere in the 38,900 range before the TTL.

    Is that good?

    Hello mdx4me1

Sounds like you got a good deal. I live in Fairfax too. My son totaled my '02 MDX last May and thank God for the great safety features he was unscathed and partied the same night in his brother's RSX.

I'm shopping to replace my MDX this month. Which dealer did you get yours from? Radley or Pohanka.

    Cheers,

    jcwingchun
  • mdx4me1mdx4me1 Member Posts: 25
I got mine from Pohanka. I didn't approach Radley, as I didn't think I could get a better deal than what I got, plus the proximity to me was much better.
  • jcwingchunjcwingchun Member Posts: 3
Thanks for your quick reply. I got my '02 MDX at Radley but I had better experiences for service maintenance at Pohanka. I will certainly give them a try this time.

If you don't mind, what's the cost breakdown on the $38,500?

    jcwingchun
  • mdx4me1mdx4me1 Member Posts: 25
To be fair, I did add a couple of accessories, totalling $408, which was added to my $38,500 figure, bringing my real total to $38,908. My price for the car (and $408 in accessories) was $37412. Processing Fee of 249, Tax of $1130, and a couple of other fees added to my final out the door price of $38,908. Again, this is with NAV and DVD.
  • jcwingchunjcwingchun Member Posts: 3
Thanks for the breakdown. It gives me an idea how to start my negotiations with them. Best regards. jcwingchun.

I came across your dialog w/MDX4ME (?) and was glued to my computer screen. I too am in the market for an '05 MDX w/Navi & DVD. I live in the Tidewater Virginia area...have only spoken to one Acura dealer here...there are two. But now, armed w/your collective experiences and insights, I feel better prepared to do business. I'm researching now and waiting till the end of the month to get serious. Thanks for sharing your experiences...I'll post an update once I make my purchase. Who knows, I may end up driving to (and hopefully from) Fairfax w/my new MDX . Regards, PadmanK

I am looking to buy a 2005 MDX Touring - no RES or NAV. Does anyone know what deals are being offered post-7/5? Can anyone recommend a Florida dealer?

    Thanks

Hey Fun6889...how'd things go with the car? I'm guessing that the accessories are what is/was holding you up until Friday. (At least I hope that is all it is.)

Based on your posts and skigreat's, I called Ramsey Monday afternoon after I had a not so thrilling experience at Springfield. (If you don't have the car I want and can't give it to me for the price I want fine. Don't tell me that I have to take delivery of the car by Tuesday (not true) but is how they were trying to convince me to take the color combo I was not interested in and waste more time then I had to spend.)

Anyway, on the way from that dealership to a bbq, I spoke to the asst mgr you suggested and he agreed to a navi for just over what skigreat paid (+92). I probably could have gotten him to drop, but since I was willing to pay $300 more to Springfield (which they never got to) I figured if he saved me anymore headache it was worth it (and it's all of $2 and change a month). He took no deposit just some info and I faxed my license and insurance card over yesterday morning.

Picked it up last night without a problem. PAINLESS! I turned down the LoJack and Extended Warranty although I may rethink the latter and buy in the near future. We'll see!

Skigreat and Fun...Thanks for all your advice. Again, Fun, good luck with the car!

PS. I'd like to say I'm enjoying the new MDX, but I'm driving my 9 year old Maxima that needs new brakes  while the wife and our newborn are tooling around in the new mobile listening to XM :shades: . ARGH! I can't wait for the AWD TL!!! ('07???)
  • fun6889fun6889 Member Posts: 27
anyone who has MDX please let me know about this. Does MDX comes with floor mats? or everything is extra???
  • fun6889fun6889 Member Posts: 27
Good to hear you have great experience w/ the dealer. Hopefully I didn't give out wrong dealer like I did late time w/ bridgewater. I am going to pick-up my new ride tomorrow, hopefully... And will come back to update everyone for sure.
One thing is, looks like the offer I got was "fair" but not the best. Oh well, everyone have to make a living right? I guess that's what I have to tell myself, otherwise I will be upset.. hahahaha...
  • mdxmangtamdxmangta Member Posts: 12
I know in Oregon and WA area most dealers have MDX that already have what they call NW protection Pkg (Floor mats, wheel locks and cargo tray) and they factor that cost into the quote.
However in general standard mats are the usual rug type of mats. If you take all season floor mats as an option, then they will leave the standard set in the car. My suggestion first ask what is there in the car that you are going to pick from stock. Many times there are various options that you care or don't care and they are already there.
Dealer would be willing to cut margins on options that are already there... however if you declare your needed option list ahead of time then they will quote full price for that ...
    Hope that helps...

Does anyone know if that $1500 incentive will be extended after 7/5/05? I would think it would be extended in the wake of all those employee pricing programs. I am planning on buying a 2005 MDX with Nav. in VA in the next week. Thanks...

Great find. How was the dealership experience and is there a premium plan associated with the vehicle (e.g complimentary pickup/dropoff/loaner?)
  • bsg64bsg64 Member Posts: 7
The dealership was quite good. I bought a TL in October from another dealer (Herb Connolly) and thought that Acura of Boston was much better. While we quickly settled on the price of the car, it did take some time to agree on a fair value for my trade-in. I do think this is a weakness of Acura of Boston (trade-in value was how they lost my business for the TL). That said, we were able to come to what I felt was a fair number on the trade and they clearly wanted my business.
  • brokedudebrokedude Member Posts: 13
According to a dealer I am trying to work out a deal with, the $1500 incentive has been extended but I don't think the special financing is extended as I could not find it on acura.com's website any longer. This sux cause I really wanted to purchase with the low financing rate but none of the ny dealers were willing to sell at a reasonable price. Now it is just a waiting game again.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
You are so right, Skigreat. With the technology that comes with new cars nowadays, you'll have to spend a few days studying the manual before you know how all the techno gadgets work. LOL.

A friend of mine is also from Bridgewater and, like you, she loves to ski. In fact, she is a ski instructor. The last I heard is that she is moving to Colorado -- the state for skiers. You wouldn't happen to know her, do you?

I'm also shopping for an MDX and this board provides great info. With the $1,500 incentive (assuming it is being extended beyond 7/5), it makes the MDX a valued purchase. Thanks for your invaluable contribution to the board, as quite a few posters have benefited from you info and advice.
  • fun6889fun6889 Member Posts: 27
Yes. the $1500 incentive is still available but the 0.9 APR is gone. My dealer told me that yesterday when I pickup my MDX.

I am so so so so happy, i finally picked up my MDX with Navigation. I can't believe how much you can do with the navigation. I was origonally looking at the Sequoya and i'm so happy i didn't go with that. Anyways, I paid about 1400 dollars under the dealer invoice i would assume because of that discount that Acura is offering. I had an absolutly wonderful buying experience at Open Road Acura of Wayne. Anyways, i told my salesman that i would post that here because he did such an outstanding job really helped me out. His name is Dave and i think he's the only Dave there, i forget his last name, lol. But anyways i would definately recomend the MDX to anyone and if you do decide to go with it, I hope your buying experience was as wonderful as mine.

This may be out of place, but here goes...

I got my MDX a couple of weeks ago, and so far am averaging 12-13 miles per gallon. Will this improve with more use of the car? I've only put 200 miles on the car, and this is my first tank of gas with it. What are other's experiences?

    Thanks.
  • carusercaruser Member Posts: 12
mine is about 14 mpg for the the 600 miles I put on my MDX. my daily commute is 1 mile to school + 4 miles to work, 5 miles back to home. the short distance driving & low average speed make mpg low.
  • ltazeltaze Member Posts: 17
I drive a 2002 with 33,000 miles on it and my mpg avgerages about 15. Although sometimes it feels like less.

Can anyone recommend a good Acura dealer in Florida. The one in my hometown wants $2-3000 over invoice. Much different experience from what I am reading here.
