We bought the Aspen White MDX Touring with DVD and Navigation this past Saturday. It has a spoiler, chrome side steps, wood grain steering wheel, body molding, wheel locks, and cargo tray. We paid around $41,000 before fees. I thought we got a good deal but looking at this forum, it seems like I could've done better. Anybody get an MDX with similar options/accessories?
  • knvmdxknvmdx Member Posts: 8
Do you all think that the 2.9% Financing will come back. Also when do you all think the new 2007 MDX is going to hit the market.
My dealer on Sunday tried to sell me a MDX with Navi and RES for $39,500. I did not take it. Hope he will get more deperate next month.

Just started to look and wont be buying until the end of the quarter at the earliest. Just got an internet quote of $36,000 for the Touring model (not looking for extras).

What do you guys think? Also, How high (and when) do you think the incentives will go? Thanks
  • larryallen707larryallen707 Member Posts: 174
    What do you guys think?

I think you should be AT LEAST $2,000 below invoice. For simple math figure invoice is 10% below MSRP (Acrua's window sticker NOT dealer's). So if car has MSRP of $41k then invoice is about $37k so you should pay about $35k + tax/lic. TOPS. By the way, check out the navi before you decide. I didn't want navi "for sure" until I checked it out. That is really cool. I am jealous I didn't get it in my Infiniti last year. My wife gets all the toys!

You can get the Touring model only for around $34K in my area. Also, I know of several dealers willing to sell the Touring w/Navi model for $37K. Any yes, these prices do include destination.

So $36,000 for Touring only is not a very good price. Take a road trip down to the DC area if NJ dealers won't go any lower than $36K on a Touring only model.

Yes. I believed the 20¢ excess mileage to be non-negotiable. I was wondering if there was anyway to negotiate on the back end (next time) with entering a new lease in the balance.

Can the dealer get us out of our excess mileage with Acura in order to get us into a new MDX? I doubt the dealer can do anything other than wrap the excess charges into the new payment. We rejected this approach and decided to pay the excess directly to Acura.

We will go over miles with this new lease, but we will try to keep it reasonable. Absent any insightful ideas, we will probably just pay ourselves mileage for vacations and such to apply to the excess miles at the end of the lease.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Bought an MDX with Navi/Res last weekend. The dealer close to my home gave a great deal. They offered me a car with RES eventhough I didn;t request one. Since the price was good, I thought why not. Everthing together I paid

    37000+320 for side molding+ tag+tax.

Send me an email and I will provide the name of the the sales agent and company.
  • miked3470miked3470 Member Posts: 25
larryallen707 ... Hey, did you get it from the same dealer that we got ours from (I believe I sent you an email, letting you know of the dealer and salesperson's name)? Sounds like the exact same deal we got this past Monday ($37k for Navi/Res).
  • steve777steve777 Member Posts: 41
So far the best price I've gotten is 38,785 incl. destination for the touring w/o extras...that's about $900 below invoice.

I'm gpoinmg tp waot until near the close of the quarter come late June. Anyone doing better in the tristate vicinity??
  • larryallen707larryallen707 Member Posts: 174
Miked- No. I am out in California. Deals don't seem to be as good out here.
  • steve777steve777 Member Posts: 41
I meant to say the best price I've gotten is 35,785 incl. destination for the touring w/o extras...that's about $900 below invoice.

I'm going to wait until near the close of the quarter come late June. Anyone doing better in the tristate vicinity??

Dealership names ARE allowed, salepersons names are NOT. So what is the name of the dealership? Pohanka was quoting me $37,750 for NAV&RES w/ no dest. charge.
  • miked3470miked3470 Member Posts: 25
Freq ... you know the name of the dealer. I had posted it on the other MDX forum, where I see you frequent as well.
  • freqfreq Member Posts: 14
Yes miked, but when I called the best number I got was $37,750. I need/want to save the extra $650 that you did. I guess I just hafta' wait until the end of next month (June) which will also be the end of the Quarter and the Half way point thru the year hoping they need sales numbers.

miked did you deal with internet sales or a regular sales guy?
  • miked3470miked3470 Member Posts: 25
I believe I got my deal with one of the internet people. The dealership must have anxious to move one of these by the end of the month (end of April). I got ours for $37k even, so it was $750 less than the price you were quoted.

I've got my Onstar 1 year free subscription going now. Onstar gives you 30 minutes of calling time over a 2 month period. They also give you a personal phone number so someone can call into the vehicle, even if you have no cell phone with you!

How? If holdback is about $1200 and incentives are about $1000, how can you get more than $2000 below invoice? Where does it come from?

Did you do a trade-in or buy one with some miles on it?
  • freqfreq Member Posts: 14
    Smells like SPAM.
  • whoshegagawhoshegaga Member Posts: 7
larryallen707, I really appreciate the details. With $1000 incentive and $1300 holdback, and $40,442 invoice (including dest) I don't know how you did it: that's less than $400 over dealer cost, or less than 1% profit for the dealer. Not only that, but you got special financing for all that AND you talked them down on options? What was your leverage? Was there another manufacturer's specail going on that I missed? Please help.
  • larryallen707larryallen707 Member Posts: 174
First of all, I am obviously not a world class negotiator so I can't feel to proud of myself... since Miked and some other guy above did better than I did. My deal was clean with no trade-in or anything. Car was brand new. You can often get a dealer demo for less but that was not the case here.

Second, why does it sell below "cost?" I imagine they are still making money somewhere! They made several hundred on the options. Not as much as others pay but still a profit. Slim margin? Possibly. Also, it's last model year and they have a HUGE inventory of cars. Check www.niello.com if you are anywhere near Sacramento and you will see a HUGE inventory of MDX's.

    Good luck.
  • steve777steve777 Member Posts: 41
Where do you go to find out what the "holdback" is. I know about the $1k dealer incentive but was unaware of a $1200 holdback.

I've been getting quotes of about $1k off invoice. How much of the holdback can one expect to get( off invoice) as well?
  • larryallen707larryallen707 Member Posts: 174
    Steve-
You should get ALL of the holdback AND all of the incentive. They make a few bucks on options, warranty if you opt for that, kick back from banks on financing, etc.... Don't forget car dealers have VERY large houses so don't feel bad or try to rationalize it... and certaintly don't believe them! You should be about $2,500 below invoice at least. Based on Miked in D.C. even more below invoice! Good luck.
  • whoshegagawhoshegaga Member Posts: 7
Holdback should be about 3% of MSRP, not including destination. Edmunds used to publish holdback rates, I don't know why they stopped. You can buy a pricing report including invoice, incentives, and holdbacks online from Consumer Reports for $14. I don't know how much profit comes from arranging the financing.
  • whoshegagawhoshegaga Member Posts: 7
Thanks for the tip. I will be headed to Sacramento before the end of this month for other reasons, and I see Neilo has a great inventory.

It sounds to me like you did great. I mean, these guys need some profit to keep the dealerships alive. How did you price the options? Do you have an invoice price to start with?

Did you give it up in other areas (trade-in, financing, miles, expensive options)? According to consumers, your price doesn't leave anything for the dealership. Just wondering if CR is missing something.
  • larryallen707larryallen707 Member Posts: 174
    Whoshegaga-
I took the retail price off the niello.com parts/service department and I added a few bucks. The rear spoiler, for example, was $350 so I said to make it $400. We got rear spoiler, side bars, door guards. I was GIVING them money but they were willing to do everything that day so I could drive the car home when I picked it up. Other dealers wanted me to buy first and pick it up a day-3 days later. Niello was very friendly about doing everything that day which made my wife happy which makes the whole world happy! :)
  • whoshegagawhoshegaga Member Posts: 7
Thanks for the details. My price quotes were pretty close to yours, which is better than I had expected. But I probably will just buy the extras online to avoid some of the dealing.
  • miked3470miked3470 Member Posts: 25
Our deal at $37,000 for the Touring with Navi/Res (brand new vehicle, not a demo or showroom model) was $3,442 under dealer invoice. If you figure the dealer holdback at approximatley $1,320 plus the $1,000 incentive to dealers, they took a loss of about $1,100 on our vehicle. I'm sure they figured they'll make up for this loss on selling a new RDX (which will take my vehicle's place soon, on the lot) at slightly less than or at full MSRP. And once again, I sold our previous car privately (so no trade and therefore no playing around with the numbers).

But I probably will just buy the extras online to avoid some of the dealing.

All I did was send a fax to the salesguy which said XXX is the price on your parts/service website and I am willing to pay yyy. No dispute. It was easy, everything was installed and we drove off into the sunset!

Does any one know what the interest rates are in May? I know the 2.9% deal is over....

Priced 2006 MDX Touring with Nav/Ent and was wondering MSRP is about $45,000 and Dealer Invoice is about $38,500.00. My dealer does not seem to want to deal. Maybe I should move on.
  • larryallen707larryallen707 Member Posts: 174
    Maybe I should move on.

Move on. My dealer didn't go for it at first. He got to $39,500 and was so uninterested he didn't even ask for my phone number. I called the next day and ended up getting for $38,500 as detailed in previous posts. Plus, as you saw from MikeD you can do even better than me so I would certainly not pay more than $38,500. I would make $37k your target. Do not worry about MSRP, invoice, if the dealer is "losing" money, just tell them you want to pay $37k and you KNOW others are paying that around the country. Good luck! :)

Went outside Richmond to Pohanka in Northern, VA and I was faxed a quote for $38,900 for 2006 MDX with Nav/REN. So from discussion, sounds like I can probably get it down some more but thanks for the advice. I will aim for the $38,500 as my maximum.
  • miked3470miked3470 Member Posts: 25
That's disheartening, getting a quote of $38,900 from them. We bought ours just over 2 weeks ago from Pohanka for $37K even (and that included destination). Same exact vehicle ... Touring w/Nav & RES. That's a huge disparity in price, especially for being from the same dealership.
  • jervalawjervalaw Member Posts: 4
$37,000 seems below invoice how did you do it? Any particular salesman? Did you deal with the Sales Manager? Was there any particular discount going on?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,072

We got it at $3,442 below dealer invoice (or $7,815 below MSRP). I guess the dealer took somewhat of a loss on the vehicle they sold us, but they must have really wanted to move some inventory off the lot. We bought it on Sunday, April 30th.

Sorry, but I'm not allowed to give out the salesperson's name (per this forum's rules).
  • freqfreq Member Posts: 14
Let me know how many white MDXs Pohanka still has on their lot, especially NAV & RES ones. :D

    Please and Thank You. ;)

I just bought a 2006 MDX from David McDavid for $34,300, including roof rack, side molding, wood steering wheel, window tint and roof rack. Decent people to deal with, but the car wasn't finished out when I paid them for it. It's got to go back in for the accessories to be added.
  • tyggertygger Member Posts: 59
What does that $37k price include? OTD?
  • tyggertygger Member Posts: 59
Does anyone have experience buying used cars? For instance, if a used MDX is listed as $35K at a dealer, typically how much lower should I shoot for? I'm guessing $1-2K lower so I should offer $3-4K less than their selling price? Or can/should I expect to pay even less...

    Thank again
  • larryallen707larryallen707 Member Posts: 174
I would say 10% off asking price is reasonable. Of course you need to look at kbb.com to get a good value range. I say "range" because you need to see what wholesale is to know roughly what the dealer paid (at most) and then aim toward that. Good luck.
  • rlee323rlee323 Member Posts: 1
Pricing in the Northeast seems to have gone up in May versus April - also, no financing deals. Would it be better to wait until june to buy?
  • miked3470miked3470 Member Posts: 25
The $37K for our Touring/Navi/Res included everything except Maryland state sales tax (5%), MD 2 year registration of $171 and VA dealer processing fee of $299 (mandatory in the state of VA).
  • sl1288sl1288 Member Posts: 58
What kind of numbers are you getting for the MDX Touring with Nav? I'm looking now and the dealers in RI and MA have a ton of inventory.
  • freqfreq Member Posts: 14
37,600 incl. destination here in PA.
  • mayritzmayritz Member Posts: 4
freq can you let me know what dealership and City you dealt with in PA? I'm seriously looking at an MDX Touring w/Nav and that price is awesome. Do you think they would be willing to negotiate that price for a lease? Thanks. ;)
  • miked3470miked3470 Member Posts: 25
I know of several dealers in my area (Washington DC metro area) that were willing to sell the Touring/Navi version for between $36,700 and $37,199. The price of $37,600 sounds just ok.
  • steve777steve777 Member Posts: 41
$36,700 is $2,300 under invoice!! Am I mistaken here? If not, how do they do that??
  • stuart1966stuart1966 Member Posts: 3
There is no way you paid 37k for a 45k MDX. Can you post a bill of sale? I highly doubt it!!!
