I'm in the market for a new 2006 MDX touring with NAV (NO RES) in the MD/VA/PA/NJ area. The best quote I've gotten so far is $36K before TTL, but including destination. What does everyone think of this quote?
  • onelifeonelife Member Posts: 15
This is a plain Touring, no Nav. and DVD.

They wouldn't do as much discount for the Nav. and DVD version as they are more popular than the plain touring. Man, I wish there is more competition in Memphis though. It would benefit all buyers! :)

That wasn't my experience with them. The guy I talked to via email was busy when I got there and so we talked to somebody else. At first he gave us list price for a MDX Touring with Navi but then when I explained that the price listed on this board had been confirmed by one of their reps, he went back to his bosses and, after about 15 minutes, they agreed to a sale at the $35,670 price. I'm picking it up tomorrow so I'll let you all know.
  • acs1464acs1464 Member Posts: 2
They also quoted me a price of $35677 for a '06 Touring with NAV only. I'm a little leary to go with them given the experiences of some of the others here on the board. Would love to hear what happens when you go to pick up your MDX.

I ended up buying from Montclair Acura after my experience with Springfield at about the same price - Base model with protection package and 1st oil change for $30,795 + TTL.

I expected some sort of shady tatics from Springfield (mostly alerted by some of the fishy traps in the email exchanges where they tried every possible way to avoid responding to clearly stated terms). But when I eventually received all the terms on an email together with back and forth history, I felt comfortable that I wouldn't get screwed. Everything was on track when I met the internet manager in the showroom. But soon after he made himself unavailable, things went downhill from there..

Most dealers these days will give you the run around and try to trick you in one form or another. Springfield is definitely in a different league and went over-the-top.

Having read the previous posts, I was definitely on guard all the way thru and expected things to go wrong at some point.. I guess the bottom line is expect the worst and do not trust them until the car is picked up. That's just the reality. If you want to save the hassle, buy from somewhere else, the prices are pretty leveled in NJ.

    Jazzeum,

We bought one of the first 2001 MDX from them in at MSRP and have done all of our service there from day 1. They initiated our trading/buying a new one a few weeks ago. But the price was higher the $30,795 after a dozen phone calls and a lot of "outside involvement". Could you confirm that price to me that you got at Montclair Acura and if anyone else in the area has gotten a comprable or better price within 5o miles of Montclair, NJ.

    I would be deeply apprecative

Sorry My last posting was confusing.

We bought our MDX from Montclair Acura. They initiated our buying new 2006 to make up for past problems in servicing, radio, and other issues.

They reluctently agreed to price for new 2006 MDX Premium
of over $31+ to make up for trouble.

It is important that I confirm that 06mdxnj and/or other folks paid $30,795 (plus protection package and oil change) for $30,795 in order to decide on if I could/should trust these folks.

    Thanks,

    Mitchell

can you tell what dealership you bought from and what whole buying expirience was overall?
  • jazzeumjazzeum Member Posts: 16
After reading all the above posts, I was ready for anything when I went to pick up my MDX today at Springfield. However, everything went off without a hitch. Pricing was as agreed and the car is great. I'm not sure what happened with other people but I have no complaints. They even gave me two free oil changes today.

It could be that after somebody posted here what prices Springfield was quoting they got more inquires for that pricing than they liked and decided to hold the line at MSRP or slightly below. I'm not sure. All I know is that I had no problems.
  • ohohohohohohohoh Member Posts: 5
I sent email to 5 nearest dealer to get the quotes. At the second day, I got the quotes ranging from $32595 to $30295. I tried to some of them to match the lowest quote, but none will to match it. Definitly I choose the lowest one, Tischer Acura at Laurel, Maryland. There are only two Premium left. The whole buying process is very smooth. No need to pay extra accessaries. I pay $1000 by credit card and take 60 month finance with 4.9 interest. I also get free wheel lock, first time oil change, life time car wash and $50 service credit.

Does anyone have 3 children in carseats? I'm close to purchasing a 2006 MDX and would like some real world advice. I have 2 children in booster seats and a newborn in an infant carrier. I would like to put all 3 seats in the 2nd row. I tried the seats at the dealer and they fit. Any advice from someone in the same situation? BTW don't suggest a minivan, my wife won't drive one. Thanks!

Also, any good experiences with dealers in the Tampa, FL area?
  • roluxrolux Member Posts: 3
Please confirm this quote was for a premium and included tax, destination, etc. i just got an instaquote from Open Road (Wayne) for 36,616. Montclair's quote is 37,895 and they're not budging after two visits. was this the original quote or did you negotiate further?
  • roluxrolux Member Posts: 3
Have to reply to my own post as follow-up. New to this vehicle, obviously. thought premium was a nickname others were using for the top of the line. the prices i quoted were for the touring at w/nav and ent. still would appreciate opinions on quotes if anyone has purchased the same in this area (central to northern NJ.)

Does anyone know what new incentives will be offered tomorrow for a 2006 MDX?
  • pcsdpcsd Member Posts: 5
I did try Hoehn. Poor experience. I told them that I received a lower quote and was going to go to OC to see the car. They gave me quote fo $36,400 and said that we should stop by because they would be willing to negotiate more. Once arriving, and telling them the price that I wanted ($35,700), they said absolutely no way they were coming down from $36,400. Seemed like they were trying to pull the bait and switch.

Ended up leaving, and driving to Acura of Mission Viejo, took my quote in ($35,900), did the paperwork and drove off in the car. Took about 1 1/2 hours with no hassle.

It seems that San Diego dealerships have no way of competing with the LA or Orange County dealers. And they try to sell you by asking you to 'stay local'. If Hoehn came down to $36,000, I would have bought from them, no problem.

But, in response to your last comment, I would say that Hoehn is the most responsive among the SD dealers that I dealt with. But Kearny Mesa and Escondido are both owned by United Auto Group, so they're basically the same. And I've heard that UAG does not deal at all.

In the end, I have a great car and had a great experience with the purchase. I would recommend Mission Viejo to anyone in the market for an Acura.

Just finished paper work and pick it up from dealer in NJ for premium model. (no DVD, no nav. no touring)
    $30,650 (incl. Destination)
    $2145.5 (NJ sales TAX)
    $ 298 Documentation
    $351 Registration
    Total $ 33,444.5 OTD

If you want to share your info, specify like this to be helpful to others. I owe a lot from this forum so I am sharing.
Try to get 2.9% rather than 4.9%. you will save more than $1000. ( I failed to get it. 4.9%/5 years)

    --Overall experience
Springfield-- heard many bad things. I got a quote also. try to contact with final price, but can't be reached. so I didn't even visit there.
Park Ave.-- Usually about $900 higher than lowest. Can't rely on 100%. One dealer contacted me with price. When I try to finalize, he sent email with $1000 higher price and just said he doesn't remember or it might be a mistake.
bridgewater, Mahwah, Ramsey, Greenwich CT-- not cheap.

I don't want to post my dealer shop because i am not working for them.

Thanks for your info, which is very helpful. I just got a premium model without buying the mat/side moulding stuffs from the dealer. I couldn't find a seller on eBay of mats for less than 90 bucks. Do you have the name of the eBay seller or the link?

    Thanks.

We decided on the MDX Touring over the Pilot EX-L AWD. This board was very helpful for determining fair pricing, so I wanted to post our price and fees paid. (The one critique/comment I have about this board is that it's confusing when posters don't indicate if their price includes destination or not. Not including this information represents a potential $615 pricing discrepancy.)

Vehicle: 2006 Acura MDX Touring (no Nav or DVD) with 7 miles on the odometer.

Date of Purchase: 5 Sep 06

    Price: $34,100 (including destination)

    Dealer Fees: $45
    NY State Fees: $22
    CT State Registration Fee: $155
    CT Sales Tax: 6%

    Financing: 2.9% for 36 months.

    Hey pcsd,

What a coincidence ! I picked up a red rock Touring from Mission Viejo, too, last Saturday. Hoehn didn't have the color I wanted, and Mission Viejo (MV) did. MV gave me the lowest quote, $33,095 + TLL for the Touring. The next lowest quote I got was from Tustin ($33,217 + TLL).

I thought you wanted to buy in San Diego. That's why I said to try Hoehn. I showed Kearny Mesa the quote I got from MV. Their Internet guy said that his mananger won't give up the dealer hold back ($1500). So he told me to drive up to OC, which I did.

So I took the family and left SD at 8am. Got to MV around 9am. Didn't leave there until 1pm. They had to prep the vehicle. I was told there were (are) some water marks on the roof and it took a long time to get them off. They finally released the vehicle because I was waiting too long. But I have to bring it back so they can detail it properly. Plus, I'm getting the Teflon paint coating treatment. So I have to bring it back anyway.

I concur, I would recommend Acura of Mission Viejo to anyone looking to buy an Acura in the SD and OC areas. I had a very pleasant experience there.

    Congrats on your purchase.

Bought a 2006 MDX w/NAV & RES, no weather mats, side steps or running board

Sept 5, 2006 from Open Road Acura in Wayne, NJ

Price: $37,000 inluding $615 destination fee
    Document fees: $ 298
NJ Sales tax: $ 1750 (after deduction of trade-in)
    NJ Reg: $ 351
    Tire fee: $ 7.50
    Total: $39,406
and a voucher for free 7,500 mi service (about $260)
    Financing: 4.9%/60 months

    Montclair's price was $37,985 + fees = $40,098
    Springfield's price was $37,639 + fees (didn't get details)

    Montclair's sales department was a little more impressive (respectful of time, detailed computerized quotes print-out with all figures); they got me set up for test drive, demo'd the car's features, evaluated my trade-in while I was out and talked numbers and gave me three print-outs all within an hour visit; but they wouldn't budge & had a take it or leave it attitude and tried to talk me into leasing instead of working with their numbers;

Wayne took longer than I would have liked, I had to repeat what I was looking for even though I had sent in a detailed quote request and had their quote in hand (their internet person didn't give this to the salesperson). Salesperson kept talking too long before I got the bottom line out of them, but finally worked it out. Their general manager made the final pitch about their after-sale treatment of customers and threw in the free first service so we went for it.

    Hope this is helpful

I just bought an MDX w/nav and RES from Clinton Acura for $36616 + delivery.
I contacted a variety of Central NJ dealers via the Internet; the cheapest quote I got was from Open Road in East Brunswick; they gave me an Instaquote certificate for $36616, which I printed and took to Clinton Acura, which is closer to where I live. (I had also had a negative experience with Open Road in the past, so I did not necessarily want to go there). Clinton Acura agreed to match the offer, and had the MDX in the color I wanted; I also traded in a minivan that they gave me Kelley Blue Book value on.
The entire experience was very simple; the people I dealt with were all pleasant and professional, with no bait-and-switch tactics or run around. The whole interaction took a total of less than an hour and a half from the time I showed up to the time I arranged the 3 year/2.9% financing and drove away in the MDX.
It may be possible to get a better deal, but I thought it was worth at least a couple hundred dollars to buy from closer to home, from a dealership that, unlike many of the others, I have not heard or seen anything bad about.

    Hey Guys,
Here is the quote I got from few dealers for the above specified car without any dest.:

    1. 32,918
    2. 33,000
    3. 33,202
    4. 34,175

Is there any room for bargaining with the lowest quote, or these are best quotes? Anybody....

    Hey Guys!

Thanks for the help along the way while researching prices! I ended up going for the base model after negotiating for the Touring from the Internet Mgr. Here is the deal that I got on Sun 9/3:

    Car- $30,900 (with Destination included)
    Fees-$499.50
    Tax- $1,675 (6.5%)
    Tag- $100
    * I traded and got KBB value (very fair since I knew the value of my current car)on an older car.
Final price $29,281 they did have financing but paid cash-he mentioned that the financing while be around longer.

FYI, He quoted me $33,850 (with destination charge included for the Touring)

He also threw in the all weather blk rubber mats, cargo liner, wheel locks and a discount on the roof rack.

Gatorland Acura Gainesville - easy and nice going no games.
Thanks again for all your help along the way! Good luck to all.

Hi Paul, I'm sorry you felt you had a poor experience with us at Hoehn. However to be fair, no where did I guarantee that we would absolutely move lower on price. Below is cut and pasted from our last email. Had I known with certainty, that the manager on the desk that evening would not attempt to price match (as they have done on the majority of occasions)I would not have asked you to stop by and waste both of our time. Remember, I was staying several hours overtime without pay, based on the hope that we could meet your requirements. Thus, I take offense to the claim that there was a "bait and switch"

I bought my 06 MDX Touring on Sept. 4 (Labor Day).
    MSRP $39,950, Invoice $36,002
    The price I negotiated: $33,600
This includes the $615 destination fee.
    Plus:
Body side moldings, cargo cover and wheel locks.
Interior/exterior sealants and rear window tint.
Lifetime: oil changes, car washes, loaner cars and roadside assistance. Also can buy accessories for $1 over dealer cost.
With the $50 Doc Fee + $2630 for taxes, etc. my total came to $36,280
Financing: Could have gotten the 2.9 for 36 mos, but chose the 4.9% for 60 months.

    Jeff,

I am sorry if you feel offended by my post. If you would like to revisit the email, it states:

"Speaking with our sales manager, I was told I could quote as low as $36,400. He hinted that he may be willing to go lower if you were here and ready to move forward."

We came in and were willing to 'move forward' with a purchase. Only to be told that there was no wiggle room in the price. We upheld our end of the agreement by coming in and speaking to you. Obviously we were ready to move forward because we purchased a car that night.

Clearly this will not be the only car that we will ever purchase. We would have loved to build a long term relationship with Hoehn. However with this experience, we will have to consider other dealerships.

    In another email you wrote:

"I myself am not personally authorized to match LA, OC prices, however I would be very surprised if management does not make some concerted effort to come to an agreement. Since we are at the end of the month, and we are having an "off" month, I know from experience, that now is the time to approach them for a price concession."

This was a contradiction from what Byron said. He stated that they had done very well during the month of August and would not be willing to take a loss on our sale.

In no way am I trying to insult you. I'm sorry you had to stay late, but if we did purchase a car from you, my assumption is that you would have been paid your commission. I am more disappointed in the way that your sales manager does business. I understand that the price difference was only $500. Was it really worth $500 to lose a potentially long term customer?

If someone tells you to come in and participate in a negotiation and does not uphold their end of the agreement. To me, that is misleading and shows that there was no inclination of negotiating.

    bait and switch
    n. A sales tactic in which a bargain-priced item is used to attract customers who are then encouraged to purchase a more expensive similar item.

We were tempted into coming by with the possibility of a lower price but were pushed toward the higher price.

I appreciate your time in responding to my post. However, this is my opinion of how the transaction transpired.

We wish you well and good luck.

Keep in mind that although the 2007 has many improvements, they are getting lambasted for wrecking their phenomenal TOUCH SCREEN NAV instead using a joystick - this just cost them a customer, especially having been frustrated for 3 years on the Infiniti g-35

I just got a dealer quote for a 2006 MDX touring with Nav (Aspen White Pearl). The quote, including destination charges but not including any options (running board, ipod link) was $38,312. This price seems high to me, given what I've read on this site. Does anyone have any idea how aggressive the pricing is in the bay area? Has anyone used Cartelligent as a comparison?

that sucks. i do prefer the touch screen over a joystick method. remember though the acura nav and other stuff is all voice activated and has live traffic which no other car make has that I know of.

I might be switching from a 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca with touch screen nav to an 07 MDX for the better technology and voice activated nav etc. if i do hopefully i wont miss the touch screen.

I bought exactly the same thing at Steven Creek AutoWest for $35600 on Aug 14. OTD price was like $39000 with %2.9 for 3yrs. I'm not sure the $2500 off invoice is still valid but it'll be crazy to go with their price.
