Hi, we are in Madison, WI and are also looking for a 2006 MDX Touriing with NAV & RES....please let us know what you find in your area and I will do the same. Cheers, bob
Anyone out there in the DFW area with any pricing experience in the last couple of weeks? I'm just starting to get dealer quotes on a 2006 Touring w/ Nav, adding side moldings, towing pkg, nose mask, and iPod link. Will be glad to post the quotes I get in return.
Thought I would share my purchase details since this forum was very helpful to me in making my own decision. We just bought a 2006 Touring w/Nav (188 model) for $35,800 including destination but not taxes and licenses at Stevens Creek Acura in Santa Clara, CA. I received two quotes, one at $36,497 (Los Gatos Acura) and the $35,800. Not sure what planet Los Gatos is on.
I must confess that I didn't really negotiate the $35,800. I probably could have gotten in a bit lower (say $35,500) with some real back and forth, but the dealer had the exact car we wanted and we wanted it now
Based on what I read on this forum $35.8 w/destination seemed like a decent deal on a 188 relative to what others are paying as the dealer cost after rebates and holdbacks is $34.8K and destination is another $600 and change. BTW, OTD total was about $39,100 thanks to taxes and license fees; gotta love California.
I contacted the internet sales guy via e-mail at noon on Friday, he called me back in 10 mins with a quote and I had the car by 7PM. Very efficient. The salesmen and everyone else at the dealer was experienced at dealing with "internet guys" and seemed to know that there was little use in any sales tactics as internet people had very good pricing information. There was no real pressure to buy accessories or service plans, but that said the all-in charges for the accessories (including installation) were kinda of crazy ($500 for rear deflector and well over $400 for iPod adapter!). It's pretty clear that they try to make a lot of their margin there. Partially because of the installation charges, but also because we weren't sure what we really needed we passed on any accessories up front. Seems like you can buy genuine OEM accessories on the Internet and get them installed for almost 50% less if/when you really want them.
This particular dealer has 70 MDXs in stock so my guess is that they will have to be very aggressive to move all of them by the time the '07 starts taking orders.
We did not get the version with the rear-seat entertainment system (the 189) because we plan on getting an aftermarket RES DVD system. If you want an overhead DVD system you can get a much better unit for less than $1000 vs. the $1500 mark up on the 189 (an equivalent 7" overhead system might only be $600) or you can get headrest DVDs for $1000-$1500 (a few models cost more). We think the headrests might be better for visibility and looks but will wait a couple weeks to decide.
An update on Texas pricing on Touring w/ Nav (model 188). I've received two quotes, one from DFW area and one from Austin. Both around $38,500. A lot higher than the $35,800 I've seen mentioned a number of times in other areas. Are y'all having to negotiate down to that or are the Internet managers coming right out with that price? I can't imagine there's that big a difference based on geography.
It's all depend on how many the dealer have left and how much pressure they're are in to clear the inventory require by Acura. I bought that #188 model from same place Steven Creek for $35600 on Aug 12. Just call around and ask the Internet fleet manager that you see ppl has been paid for this price for this model see if they can match it. I've to call 4 or 5 places and back and forth on phone with the place I bought a couple time to get that prices but it real easy over the phone, no hard feeling whatsoever. I really like the Steven Creek guys, real easy to deal with.
The pricing previously posted for MDXs is real. I talked to a salesperson today and confirmed the price quoted here. Perhaps as November gets closer, they'll go down farther.
I am looking for comments from anyone who has recently purchased an MDX w/Nav in or near Iowa. I currently have any offer of $37,300.00 but see many posts one to two thousand less than this, however, they are from TX, NJ, and CA. I need to purchase in the next 30 days.
I got the $35.8K price from Stevens Creek right up front. I think one key to getting decent internet quote off the bat is to make it clear that you are an informed and serious buyers (for example refer to the "188 Model" and mention that you heard about them on Edmunds.com).
Sounds like the other guy who bought there did a bunch of back and forth between several dealers and was able to get $35.6K from the same dealer. As I mentioned, I think with a little effort I could have gotten a bit lower, but we wanted that specific car that weekend.
In terms of your quote for a 188, $38.5K seems way out of bounds for a 188 no matter where you are. You should tell them you know about the $2500 factory cash to dealer, perhaps they think you aren't wise to that. While pricing does depend somewhat on supply and demand, you could get a car professionally shipped from CA for well less than $1000, so that price just doesn't make any sense to me. I would tell them just that and see what happens to your quote.
Also, make sure that they are quoting a 188 and not a 189 (the one with rear seat entertainment). $38.5 would still be high for a 189 though.
Then again maybe your dealers are dyslexic and meant $35.8 instead of $38.5 all along.
I was quoted $34000 for '06 MDX touring package without navigation. The price includes destination charge, chrome side steps and all-season mats. Doc fee $189, registration $300 for 4 years, plus 7% NJ sales tax. What do you think of this quote? Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you.
I'm also in the market for a touring in NJ. Based on previous posts, 32.3k looks really good.
However, consider this - I went to 2 dealers this past weekends and found that each had approximately 100 tourings in their respective 'warehouses' (separate parking lots not too far away from the dealerships).
I would wait it out - I suspect the incentive will increase as the new fleet of '07 mdx rolls out in oct/nov.
I guess that's pretty good deal. The lowest quote I got so far from boston area for MDX with touring is 33750 including destination charge. Not sure about waiting it out. Does anyone know if the 2500 rebate could be extended after August?
We got an offer of $37,400 including destination (always ask to make sure quote includes this) for 2006 MDX Touring w/NAV & RES in Chicagoland.....cash deal with no trade-in.I suggest you call all the dealers in your area...there are 9 in Chicagoland...ask for a sales manager...
Thanks for ther perspective, bilxma. I've been explicit in my requests, mentioning the 188 model number. I think the higher quotes in the DFW area are at least partially driven by lower inventories - at least they say they don't have much in stock. I received a $36,697 quote from a dealer in Houston, and they said have a lot of availability, and now the DFW guys are willing to match. Starting to get more reasonable. Still waiting for some more quotes, though.
Springfield and East Brunswick Acuras. A sales guy from Springfield drove me to the 'other' lot to show me the car that I'd wanted. To my shock, the entire lot was filled w/ MDX's, mostly tourings.
East Brunswick also had 2 separate lots filled with Mdx's and TL's..
Thanks for the info. I was planning to go to Springfield Acura Friday. I may still but it makes sense to hold off. Hopefully the pricing will go down as we get closer to November. No dealer wants to get stuck with that much inventory.
Anyone had experience buying 2006 MDX Touring+Nav in Seattle area recently? I plan to get one at the end of the month. I saw those incredible deals people got else where, but I wouldn't expect the price to be that good in Pacific northwest. I'm willing to go as far as Portland for a good deal.
Also I'm monitoring the local dealers' websites for their inventories to see how fast they are selling them. These sites list their available vehicles with vin numbers. How accurate are those data? I saw one dealership had 17 of them 2 weeks ago, but now they have 21. That's strange.
Just bought 06 MDX Touring with Navi and RES for $35,900. plus destination, tax & license out of the door for $39976. from Serramonte Acura thru Internet Sales Manager. Completed deal in less than 2 hours which included financing for 2.9%. No trade-in and no accessory on MDX except for the free wheel locks. Very professional people at dealership to deal with. Had same oral quote from Oakland Acura which fell through because they did not have the color I wanted when I got there (claimed they just sold it) and they wanted extra $700. to get one from another dealer, so I walked out. Also got same oral quote from Marin Acura but I did not get the chance to go visit them. Now I wont have to. Thanks to everyone' input at the Forum. I am estatic!
Does anybody know if the 2500$ Marketing Support will be extended in September? :confuse: I am looking to buy 189 soon. If the incentives will be extended I would like to wait for a month or so...
My wife and I are shopping for a new vehicle (for her). We've test-driven the 2006 Acura MDX Touring and the 2006 Honda Pilot EXL AWD (and various minivans). The main differences I see between the MDX and Pilot are: The MDX engine produces 9 more horsepower and 10 ft/lbs. more torque than the Pilot's. The MDX wheels are 17" vs. 16" on the Pilot. The MDX has a power passenger seat (unavailable on the Pilot). The MDX has 6 cubic feet less cargo area and 1 less rear seat than the Pilot. As far as I can tell, they are essentially the same (Honda) vehicle except for the few differences noted above and some minor cosmetic changes. Am I missing something else that justifies a $7K price difference between the 2006 MDX Touring and 2006 Pilot EXL AWD?
Hondas (Acuras) typically go well beyond 100K miles before requiring any major repairs. It's this proven reliability that makes them so popular with consumers. Nonetheless, in the unlikely event I had to rebuild the Pilot's engine at 61K miles, it wouldn't cost $7K. Although we prefer the body style of the MDX to the Pilot, I'm not convinced that some minor cosmetic differences, a few nice "extras" and a slightly longer warranty period add up to $7K.
What may be a "minor" cosmetic difference to you is worth the $$$ for others. You are comparing apples to oranges. Acura is a higher end version of Honda. The new RDX is probably going to cost more than the Pilot... is it worth it? ...probably not for you... but may be for others.
I test drove both the MDX and Pilot and I like MDX more because it got a stiffer suspension which make it's more fun to drive while the Pilot is a bit bouncing during sharp turn. Pilot may be good for long distance trip but for a day to day driving the MDX is a much better car for its agility.
Actually, it’s more like comparing Valencia oranges to Navel oranges. Comparing a BMW to a Volkswagen would be like Apples to Oranges, two completely different vehicles by two completely different manufacturers. Let's face it, the Infinity is a rebadged Nissan, the Lexus is a rebadged Toyota, the Acura is a rebadged Honda (and the Mercury is a rebadged Ford, etc.). The bottom line is that these are essentially the same vehicles with a few different features and options. That said, there are some first-rate features offered by the Japanese "luxury" brands; but are they worth a 20-25% premium over their "non-luxury" counterparts? Some expensive cars are good values, while some inexpensive cars are horrible values. I drive a BMW because I consider it to be a good value when compared to the competition. Our test drive and research of both the MDX Touring and Pilot EXL AWD suggests the Pilot is a much better value. It's not that the MDX isn’t a good vehicle, I’m just not convinced that it’s THAT much ($7K) better.
I did not asked for quote for Navi only (model #188). If I were you just go in and make an offer. I was able to get the Internet Fleet Manager to agree to my offer within 10 minutes after I walked in. They seem very eager to get rid of them. On Sept. 1st Acura is scheduled to release the 2007 MDX's specs and infos. 2006 models' price will only go lower and lower. I only bought now because of the 2.9% financing which ends Sept. 5th. If you are not going with financing then just wait a little longer, but you might get fewer choices. I saw at least 10 MDX in various color on the lot, they might have more. I got the Sandstone which comes with the saddle interior.
One salesmen, who sounded knowledgeable, said he thought now the 07 would not be out until January, and they would call it a 08
Would enjoy hearing any thoughts as we think about the 06, which they are clearly trying to move, or waiting until the 07 is out to compare-product, price and value
Hi, we just purchased today a 2006 Touring w/NAV&RES for $37,443 (including destination) in Chicagoland....cheapest I could find in Southern Wisconsin and Chicago area and I called a lot of dealers. Bought ours at Mullers Woodfield Acura in Hoffman Estates (north suburbs). Got the original offer from Nick and closed the deal with Jack...no muss, no fuss, no sales talk...asked for a price and got one...they basically gave us $3000 off invoice.....our only consession was that we take a car off the lot...fortunately the color combination was what we wanted....they would have charged us a few hundrud more for the hassle of a dealer trade.....I felt we did alright....we drove 100 miles and saved $1400....
MDX Base model (aka Premium) is more comparable to the Pilot EXL and the difference in price between that and Pilot EXL is less than $5K. The touring adds memory seat bluetooth and a few other things. The interior leather quality is slightly better I think on the MDX.
MDX is a 'cheap luxury' SUV and it is made cheap. If you are looking for value for money get the Pilot EXL. Acura adds the warranty and then there's another major factor called prestige or whatever else you want to call it, that adds the rest of the remaining $$$.
Well, I think it's the subtle details, tech goodies, outside look, and the feeling of prestige that costs the extra $$. With the 06 MDX price coming down so such, I think it's worth it. Of course, it varies for everyone. I'm going to get 06 MDX soon; do I want to pay even more $$$ for the 07? Probably not.
Anyway, I test drove both, I felt the MDX generates less road noice (better insulation materials?) and better sound system [Bose....]
Thanks for the info, and congrats on your new puchase. Guess I'll purcahse the 06 between Sept 1st - 5th. Don't think I will go for 07 anyway due to huge $$ gap; unless this extra spec/info from Sept 1st can make a difference.
Thanks. You’re right; the MDX Base model is much closer in trim-level to the Pilot EXL. I also noticed the Leather was better quality in the MDX (Touring). The numbers still don’t add up. As far as “prestige” goes, I measure that by who has the bigger bank account/net worth!
I believe we are getting close to pulling the trigger on the Touring with Nav and DVD rather then waiting for the 07 for $8-$10K more. Alot of school bills
What does everything think on accessories. What accessories are advisable and what is the price. I do not need towing and like things understated
test drived Pilot EXL AWD today. Don't like it at all. The leather looks ugly, much worse than the accord ex I am driving now. MDX at least looks at similiar quality level as accord... Not sure if it's becaused I test drived a lexus RX350 just before that...
greenavenue - First my disclaimer - Accesories are a personal preference. Having siad that here are my thoughts
I bought a touring with nav earlier this month. I did not get any additional accesories other than the standard wheel locks. I am thinking now to get the "resist all" package that protects the interior and exterior for 7 years from fades, stains,...for $500.
IMHO - the MDX is loaded with all goodies one needs.
Most accesories can be bought later at a much cheaper price from ebay or HondaAcuraAccesories.com. Check these websites for actual prices before you start your negotiation.
But here are things that I have seen most
1- Body Side Mouldings - Buy Later. This claims to protect against door dings, There are many different opinions about this. I would say it betters your odds by 50%. My suggestion - after you buy the car, buy this on ebay. Install is a breeze.
2- Side Steps or Running boards - Buy Now. If you need these get them installed by the dealer. Negotiate prices down to match an ebay price
3- All Season mats - Buy Later - you can get this on ebay for less than 90 bucks, most dealers charge 130+
4- Towing Package - Buy Now - If you need this you have to get it installed at the dealer, you have the best leverage to negotiate when buying new.
6- Wood Wheel / trim - Again if needed best to negotiate upfront and get it installed
Hello all...I am really surprised to see such a good info in this form. I am planning to buy 2006 MDX Touring in next two weeks. Can someone who bought MDX recently in Columbus/Dayton/Cincinnati share me some price info and dealership details. This is my first SUV...am kind of nervous :-)
It sounds like the best Price so far on the Touring with Nav and DVD is $36.7K ($40.5K-Holdback 1.3K-Incentive$2.5K)
Can anyone tell me definitely, can you get the Holdback and Incentive and get the below market financing they are offering. Someone told me because financing is from Honda and the Incentive and Holdback is from the Dealer, these two are not tied together, but it sounds like they may be do good to be true

wiil do.

Good luck with your own purchase!
Is it good deal? Please advise.
