wiil do.
Thought I would share my purchase details since this forum was very helpful to me in making my own decision. We just bought a 2006 Touring w/Nav (188 model) for $35,800 including destination but not taxes and licenses at Stevens Creek Acura in Santa Clara, CA. I received two quotes, one at $36,497 (Los Gatos Acura) and the $35,800. Not sure what planet Los Gatos is on.
I must confess that I didn't really negotiate the $35,800. I probably could have gotten in a bit lower (say $35,500) with some real back and forth, but the dealer had the exact car we wanted and we wanted it now
Based on what I read on this forum $35.8 w/destination seemed like a decent deal on a 188 relative to what others are paying as the dealer cost after rebates and holdbacks is $34.8K and destination is another $600 and change. BTW, OTD total was about $39,100 thanks to taxes and license fees; gotta love California.
I contacted the internet sales guy via e-mail at noon on Friday, he called me back in 10 mins with a quote and I had the car by 7PM. Very efficient. The salesmen and everyone else at the dealer was experienced at dealing with "internet guys" and seemed to know that there was little use in any sales tactics as internet people had very good pricing information. There was no real pressure to buy accessories or service plans, but that said the all-in charges for the accessories (including installation) were kinda of crazy ($500 for rear deflector and well over $400 for iPod adapter!). It's pretty clear that they try to make a lot of their margin there. Partially because of the installation charges, but also because we weren't sure what we really needed we passed on any accessories up front. Seems like you can buy genuine OEM accessories on the Internet and get them installed for almost 50% less if/when you really want them.
This particular dealer has 70 MDXs in stock so my guess is that they will have to be very aggressive to move all of them by the time the '07 starts taking orders.
We did not get the version with the rear-seat entertainment system (the 189) because we plan on getting an aftermarket RES DVD system. If you want an overhead DVD system you can get a much better unit for less than $1000 vs. the $1500 mark up on the 189 (an equivalent 7" overhead system might only be $600) or you can get headrest DVDs for $1000-$1500 (a few models cost more). We think the headrests might be better for visibility and looks but will wait a couple weeks to decide.
Good luck with your own purchase!
Is it good deal? Please advise.
Thanks,
Sounds like the other guy who bought there did a bunch of back and forth between several dealers and was able to get $35.6K from the same dealer. As I mentioned, I think with a little effort I could have gotten a bit lower, but we wanted that specific car that weekend.
In terms of your quote for a 188, $38.5K seems way out of bounds for a 188 no matter where you are. You should tell them you know about the $2500 factory cash to dealer, perhaps they think you aren't wise to that. While pricing does depend somewhat on supply and demand, you could get a car professionally shipped from CA for well less than $1000, so that price just doesn't make any sense to me. I would tell them just that and see what happens to your quote.
Also, make sure that they are quoting a 188 and not a 189 (the one with rear seat entertainment). $38.5 would still be high for a 189 though.
Then again maybe your dealers are dyslexic and meant $35.8 instead of $38.5 all along.
I was quoted $34000 for '06 MDX touring package without navigation. The price includes destination charge, chrome side steps and all-season mats. Doc fee $189, registration $300 for 4 years, plus 7% NJ sales tax. What do you think of this quote? Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you.
We almost signed it, unfortuntaly the dealer did not have the interior color we wanted
However, consider this - I went to 2 dealers this past weekends and found that each had approximately 100 tourings in their respective 'warehouses' (separate parking lots not too far away from the dealerships).
I would wait it out - I suspect the incentive will increase as the new fleet of '07 mdx rolls out in oct/nov.
Not sure about waiting it out. Does anyone know if the 2500 rebate could be extended after August?
Thanks for the info, can I talk to you. The price you mentiond is with out tax and registration right???
Also, can you provide me the dealer info..
East Brunswick also had 2 separate lots filled with Mdx's and TL's..
Also I'm monitoring the local dealers' websites for their inventories to see how fast they are selling them. These sites list their available vehicles with vin numbers. How accurate are those data? I saw one dealership had 17 of them 2 weeks ago, but now they have 21. That's strange.
I am looking to buy 189 soon. If the incentives will be extended I would like to wait for a month or so...
Any idea? :confuse:
The MDX engine produces 9 more horsepower and 10 ft/lbs. more torque than the Pilot's.
The MDX wheels are 17" vs. 16" on the Pilot.
The MDX has a power passenger seat (unavailable on the Pilot).
The MDX has 6 cubic feet less cargo area and 1 less rear seat than the Pilot.
As far as I can tell, they are essentially the same (Honda) vehicle except for the few differences noted above and some minor cosmetic changes. Am I missing something else that justifies a $7K price difference between the 2006 MDX Touring and 2006 Pilot EXL AWD?
6yr/70K powertrain warranty vs. 5yr/60K...
Roadside assistance... most dealers offer free loaners..

Let's face it, the Infinity is a rebadged Nissan, the Lexus is a rebadged Toyota, the Acura is a rebadged Honda (and the Mercury is a rebadged Ford, etc.). The bottom line is that these are essentially the same vehicles with a few different features and options. That said, there are some first-rate features offered by the Japanese "luxury" brands; but are they worth a 20-25% premium over their "non-luxury" counterparts?
Some expensive cars are good values, while some inexpensive cars are horrible values. I drive a BMW because I consider it to be a good value when compared to the competition.
Our test drive and research of both the MDX Touring and Pilot EXL AWD suggests the Pilot is a much better value. It's not that the MDX isn’t a good vehicle, I’m just not convinced that it’s THAT much ($7K) better.
Secondly, can you get one and have it installed \
Pls advise
Thanks
One salesmen, who sounded knowledgeable, said he thought now the 07 would not be out until January, and they would call it a 08
Would enjoy hearing any thoughts as we think about the 06, which they are clearly trying to move, or waiting until the 07 is out to compare-product, price and value

MDX is a 'cheap luxury' SUV and it is made cheap. If you are looking for value for money get the Pilot EXL. Acura adds the warranty and then there's another major factor called prestige or whatever else you want to call it, that adds the rest of the remaining $$$.
Anyway, I test drove both, I felt the MDX generates less road noice (better insulation materials?) and better sound system [Bose....]
I believe we are getting close to pulling the trigger on the Touring with Nav and DVD rather then waiting for the 07 for $8-$10K more. Alot of school bills
What does everything think on accessories. What accessories are advisable and what is the price. I do not need towing and like things understated
Price on acc I have heard 80% of List

Don't like it at all. The leather looks ugly, much worse than the accord ex I am driving now. MDX at least looks at similiar quality level as accord...
Not sure if it's becaused I test drived a lexus RX350 just before that...
I bought a touring with nav earlier this month. I did not get any additional accesories other than the standard wheel locks. I am thinking now to get the "resist all" package that protects the interior and exterior for 7 years from fades, stains,...for $500.
IMHO - the MDX is loaded with all goodies one needs.
Most accesories can be bought later at a much cheaper price from ebay or HondaAcuraAccesories.com. Check these websites for actual prices before you start your negotiation.
But here are things that I have seen most
1- Body Side Mouldings - Buy Later. This claims to protect against door dings, There are many different opinions about this. I would say it betters your odds by 50%. My suggestion - after you buy the car, buy this on ebay. Install is a breeze.
2- Side Steps or Running boards - Buy Now. If you need these get them installed by the dealer. Negotiate prices down to match an ebay price
3- All Season mats - Buy Later - you can get this on ebay for less than 90 bucks, most dealers charge 130+
4- Towing Package - Buy Now - If you need this you have to get it installed at the dealer, you have the best leverage to negotiate when buying new.
6- Wood Wheel / trim - Again if needed best to negotiate upfront and get it installed
Good Luck.

It sounds like the best Price so far on the Touring with Nav and DVD is $36.7K ($40.5K-Holdback 1.3K-Incentive$2.5K)
Can anyone tell me definitely, can you get the Holdback and Incentive and get the below market financing they are offering. Someone told me because financing is from Honda and the Incentive and Holdback is from the Dealer, these two are not tied together, but it sounds like they may be do good to be true
Thanks
