i'm at sacramento, ca area. i made a carsdirect.com quote to niello acura and i got a reply showing the price of $3000 off msrp. i went there, talked to the internet sales guy and requested to talk to the finance manager trying to get cheaper price. he proceed to edmunds.com's tmv for the car and it's indeed higher compared to the dealer's price. at that point, i was pretty much 'defenseless' so i made the deal and was able to squeeze a free all season mat. btw, the car comes with bodyside moulding and wheel lock (got them at dealer's cost i think, definitely not retail prices). the bad thing is i already ordered $1000 of accessories from the net :-) (running boards, front & rear garnishes, and cargo cover).

when i asked about why slashing that much off for new models, the sales guy said they want more people to check out the dealership and it's a january special. he guaranteed the price will not be that comes february 1st. whether or not he lied, i'm happy with the price and the service...

Congratulation on your new purchase!!! That was a great deal. I'll let you know that when a salesperson tell you the reason for such a discount especially through the internet dept. He is telling you the facts for what they are. It's not whether he is lying or not. The lying doesn't begin until the customer begins speaking. (YOU)!!!

no offense on the lying part, richtex69 , the stereotype of car salesman as vultures have been there for a long time and customers also have equal shares of lying on car buying process.

this aside, i do feel internet car buying reduces the needs to lie on both ends because it's a more honest buying process. i read somewhere in edmunds about near extinction of traditional car salesman job which i found interesting. only time will tell.

i learned a lot from edmunds and all of you so thanks again making my car purchase painless and a pleasure -- never think i could say this in a million years

Haven't been on this site in a while so sorry for the late response. In any event, I purchased my MDX from Pohanka of Chantilly. I was treated very well. I did almost all negotiating thru the internet sales department--Alex Kresin was a true professional. He was very busy but made sure he spent time with me throughout the process.

The invoices on all Acura's invoiced after January 2, 2007 have increased 1.5%. There is no adjustment to the MSRP.

Did you get the Entertainment with this or just tech? What dealer? For tech and RES I'm getting quotes of $43500 in NJ and PA.

I live in NJ and almost went with a deal from Park Ave on a Tech model - $40,800. But my trade-in was the deal killer. Travelled 50 miles to Feder's Acura in Middletown, NY and got the Tech for $40,660. They gave me $800 more on the trade-in. Added the Ipod link for $340 (Park ave wanted $410) The deal was no hassle and no pressure to add on extras. Highly recommend them - ask for Joe G. Picking the car up tonight.
p.s. try to get out of a well-to-do area to buy your car, going out of Bergen Cty where they think everyone is a sheep paid off.

The price before taxes and title was 40,920, the list price was $44,165. In addition to sales tax which was about 6%, there were other bs. taxes around $200. Total out the door as I said before $43,540. No RES, and no other options.
The dealer is Jones Acura. I called the internet sales dept on Saturday. They didn't have the car when I called over the weekend and I had to wait for 3 days. Overall service was very good and courteous. No hard sales pitch to sell any other options..

I'm in Philly area too and had posted previously that I was waiting till i could get 07 MDX with Tech for 40k even, no matter how long i have to wait, as I have an 06 model SUV with NAV and the industry leading AWD plus RES (which i wasn't going to get on the mdx to keep price down) among other things.

So that price of 43,540 doesnt sound too great and the fact that you had to go to lancaster at that.

Thing is now i'm hearing that the Sport is really good and you get a lot of worthwhile bells and whistles with it? If i get just tech, am i really going to miss the sport.

what all exactly do you get? is it worth the extra cost?

Entertainment package i figured i didn't need though it is annoying that the power lift gate isn't an option but rather part of that package which doesn't really make sense unless you consider a power lift gate entertaining, heh.

anyway i've rarely ever used the RES dvd in my current suv so though i could keep cost down by not getting it this time with mdx, but i do have a kid on the way so it might be a nice option plus as i said i have it now so not getting on next car would be downgrading in that area.

So the rse dvd comes with the entertainment package? but you can get just RSE with teh sport package? so you wouldn't get power lift gate though right? and what else comes in entertainment package besides RSE that you wouldn't get if you just get sport with rse option.

Also, does the sport package have everything that the tech does but just adds more? cus i dont see anyone saying, tech, sport and rse, just sport with rse and i cant imagine getting sport package with rse but no nav.

wow .. too many questions ..

anyway - sport has everything that tech has, and adds on: active damper (suspension) which basically adjust your suspension according to road condition, auto-leveling Xenon HID headlights (not sure about how the auto-leveling works??), better leather trim, better wheel design, better interior trim. I think it's worth the cost because if you're willing to spend that much (40k something), then may as well add another 10-15% to get top of the line.

Entertainment package (can be added to Sport and Tech Trim) gets you: RES (Rear Entertainment System), 115-volt power outlet, power tailgate and heated 2nd row seats.

Gee ... I feel like an Acura salesperson. Dealer reading this better send me some commission ... :shades:

Used KBB dealer quote service. These are the best deals I got from 5 Southern California dealers:

Base MSRP 40,665 Quote 38,383 (2,282 off)
Tech MSRP 44,165 Quote 42,283 (1,882 off)
Tech+Ent MSRP 46,365 Quote 44,573 (1,612 off)

Most dealers were within $400 of each other. Looks like Acura overestimated the demand for the base model and underestimated the demand for the RES.

From a buyer's viewpoint, the fact that you can get such a big discount this quickly (the MDX is still a new design) indicates the bargains will only get better!

Picked up my Tech/RES last night. Paid $43265 including dest., $1170 over invoice. Dark Cherry Pear with parchment interior. Was going to go with Sport but found out it does not do well in the snow, even without it car handles great.

I am curious as to where you heard about the sport version not performing as well in the snow? I can't imagine why a stiffer suspension would decrease a vehicle's ability to do well in the snow.

I am also interested in the sport package and will be using the SUV in the snow quite a bit.

Did you have to do much negotiating? If you did negotiate was it difficult to get the deal? Is this dealership moving them off their lot quickly... do they have many in stock? I live in Louisville, KY. We haven't tried to negotiate yet at this point. Any suggestions?

I found a few instances of people who had the sport and said it was not good in the snow- it was not on this site, I don't remember where it was. According to them it was becuase the tires were summer rated and they were 19". I was concerned and specifically looking to find out about snow performance becuase my Infiniti FX35 with sport package and 20" tires is horrible in the snow.

I pretty much did everything online. I got quotes from about a dozen dealers and even though they were about $1500 over what I got elsewhere they willing to match the price to make the deal. I did this on the web, spoke with them maybe once or twice on the phone, lots of emails. Of course they then tried to make up their money on my trade- so that was a painful in person negotiation. But in the end I'm happy with the deal and I got a killer 6.49% rate on 72 month loan. And compared to any car dealer I've dealt with (except BMW), they were pretty straightforward and never played the "will you buy it today" game.

I emailed our dealer today for a quote. They insist on us coming in to the dealership to negotiate. They refuse to mention whether or not the will even deal down, the closest was "we are aggressive in pricing to stay competitive".

I read the brochure and found no evidence of different type of tires being used for the SPORT trim. It's only being specified as All-Season. The only difference on sport the wheels are specified as: exclusive alloy-wheel design. I don't see any wheel size difference either between base, tech or sport.

Enlighten me if someone out there knows this is not true (for sure) ... hearsay is not helpful.

I don't know about the tires, but Sport does have a different wheel design. My Sport came with Michellen 18 in tires. I don't think there is any size difference across the trims.

After months of research and test drives we have finally decided to bit the bullet and go for a MDX with tech package. I have to start my negotiation circus now. Need help in the following areas ?

1. What is the starting price i can start negotiation for a 2007 MDX with Tech ? This is around Denver/CO area and we have just three dealers here.

2. Also What is out-of-the-door price people have paid for this?

3. What are the costs involved ? I need to get a good idea of this so that i do not end up loosing on part of the deal ? I am aware of the following break downs

The price of the car
Destination charge
Taxes
and warranty am i missing anything here ?

Fxsport, you are confusing two different options on the MDX. The sport package has a stiffer suspension and comes with sport wheels (18 inch and I think 5 spoked). The 19" wheels are an upgradable option on ANY package and are considerably more "sporty" looking than the sport package wheels (in my opinion). The 19" rims, surpisingly, are only compatible with performance summer tires as of now. This was a fact our dealership failed to mention when purchasing the vehicle with the wheel upgrade. So yes, the winter/snow is an issue with the 19's but should not be a problem with the sport package 18's and all-season tires. We've had all sorts of problems with the 19's and are having the 18's put back on for the winter months.

Dont know about chicago, just booked a MDX Nimbus grey with taupe, Tech + Ent MSRP - 1500. This is through costco network and this is the best price i got so far. No hassle, no bickerring, it was pretty straightforward. Will get our car in two weeks time.

I bought 07 MDX in nimbus gray (TECH/ENT PLUS roofracks/crossbars and chrome side steps INSTALLED) for 44,000+tax/title/etc.. back in December 31, 2006 in NJ.

This was substancially below MSRP but it involved a fair amount of painful haggling with the salespeople.

Regarding the COSTCO deal... the dealer didn't even really care about it. I showed him the COSTCO sheet and he came back with some ridiculous number (MSRP - 1000). To which I promptly said, "are you kidding me?" and essentially was about to walk.

that was when they moved down to my price.

just remember, they need to sell the car more than you need to buy it. Also, go at the end of the month!

You mentioned you had to wait for the car. Does that mean the dealer had to actually order and get the car for you, or you just bought whatever they have in their lot?

Typically, when you get the one on the lot, you can get better price.

They didn't have the Nimbus grey with taupe int the lot but there was one en route, so they told us it would take a max of two weeks. That being said, just not got a call from the sales guy, looks like it already arrived and ready to be picked.

We did try to bargain for the ones in the lot and they wouldn't budge more than 1500 of MSRP.

Hello everyone,new to this forum. started shopping in Dec.'06 for a new mdx sport. Price started at msrp. Walked away. Then in early Jan. sent out internet messages to the local dealers(3). Long story short over the phone

Also, the best trade-in on my '04 Touareg $23,000.The dealer still honored the price from his first quote 3 weeks prior.

I also ordered the wood steering wheel from Acura of Augusta online and installed myself. Great price and great people. The wheel looks awesome its thicker than stock and feels great. Good luck with your shopping.

Just got Sport+Ent, Nimbus/Taupe for $46,500 on Valentine's at 9:30pm , excluding title/tags. The price included about $1,200 in installed accessories (roof rails, all season mats, cargo liner, wheel locks, rear view mirror). This brought the car itself with destination to $45,300, which is $3,170 under MSRP.

we are also looking at an MDX.

i test drove one at the local dealer. Sale guy sat down wtih me and offered to go $1000 under MSRP..but said that was it. i told him i'd sleep on it. there is another Acura dealer close to my home and he commented that if i went there and tried for a better offer..they migth beat him bya "couple hundred" so he said to come back and let him try to beat any other offers...making me think there is clealry more wiggle room in what they are offering.

We were looking at an MDX w/tech. NO RES. *why would any of you want to waste the money to buy the entertainment package. the rear DVD system to me is a waste. kids watfch too much TV today anyway. i have a 5 year old and a guarantee you..get a RES in your car..and every trip to costco will be met with whining to "put on Nemo"... sure. long road trips, it would be nice..but i see 99% of people zipping around town with the boob tube on and their kids glued to it. it's a $$ pacifier if you ask me. you can buy a portable DVD for $150 for the long roadtrips...otherwise, leave the TV off in the car.

power liftgage - like my arms don't work? c'mon, how hard is it to put the liftgage up/down by youself? if you're a midget...ok...if you are over 5'...it just is a frickin wate.

heated rear seats might be nice if you routinely carry people back there..in the cold...for all the parents iwth kids in carseats - big waste. unless you want to heat the car seat base..

anyway...
is there any REAL reason I should be considering the sport package? i drove the base and loved how it handled. not too hard not too soft. i'll never take the MDX offroad..maybe a dirt road here and there if I happen to be in an area w/out full pavement..but i'm not buying the thing to offroad or go in snow/rain. it might see heavy rain down here in So cal..but you know how the weather in San Diego is...AWD is almost a waste...like I need AWD in sunny San diego..yeah i know ithelps hadnling..but i'm not goin to be doing any skidpad runs in my MDX...

out of curiosity..have any of you cross shopped the pilot and driven the pilot back to back with the MDX. aside from the luxury niceties...does the pilot drive different than the MDX tremendously to justify the price jump?

what is the most off MSRP you've seen dealers go on the MDX?

The dealer is Frankel Acura in Cockeysville. According to Edmunds the invoice(not including holdback and other incentives we'll never know about)is $42,004 with dest. so I paid $994 over "invoice". I really don't think the trade was a large factor because they said it was going straight to a wholesaler and after asking my friend who buys at auctions, said he was surprised at such a strong trade. Carmax offered me $21,000 for the VW. I think dealers are getting pretty desperate to make a sale. After I bought, the other 2 dealers I shopped at were calling me and the BMW salesmen has called me twice already.

MY other car is a 2003 Pilot. It's been great so far with 113000 miles. Just replaced the timing belt a month ago for maintenance. The Pilot is much more utilitarian than the MDX so I don't mind beating it up. Handling is night and day. The Pilot is wishey-washey on any cornering or on/off ramps under power however great in snow with any of the tires I've had on it. Right now I'm running with the Bridgestone Dueller H/L Alenzas. Great tire for this car and my old VW. I'm courious to see how the new '08 Pilot will compare to the MDX.

Open Road Acura though not a dealer that I like, provides something called InstaQuote where you don't even need to talk to a rep to get their price on a new car. I got a quote of close to $2000 off MSRP on a 46k MDX tech & sport pkg. without any haggling and being that they make a bit less than 5k on the MDX I'm sure they can be had for around $3500 to $4000 under MSRP...after all the gas mileage is only 17 / 22

Thanks lectricman. Just so happens my office is about 5 minutes away from Frankel. I also have a Pilot but haven't driven the new MDX yet - sounds like a significant difference. Did you go in cold or use Edmund's internet buying service? Surprised to hear they're letting them go at less than $1,000 over invoice. Things must be slowing down considerably.

Just bought a base MDX for $38,182 - about $2,500 off base MSRP or $1,400 over invoice. I worked with 4 different dealers. Could I have gotten better - possibly but two other dealers told me they couldn't match the price so I was probably really close to the bottom. They also allowed me $1K more for my trade-in compared to two other dealers.

By the way, the best deals seem to be on the base models. The higher you go up the food chain the less the discounts. My dealer wasn't discounting the Sport + RES model at all as he only had one in stock. The Tech + RES model is also in short supply. Could be an inventory issue - maybe Acura underestimated the demand for the top of the line model and overestimated the demand for the base model.

I choose the base model because I didn't need the roughness of the sport, didn't feel like paying $3.5K for a navigation system I might use once in my life (buy a map) and didn't feel like paying $2K more for the RES (buy a portable DVD player for your once in awhile road trip) - to get the RES you have to get the Tech or Sport package so it's pretty pricey unless you needed navigation.

people keep talking non sense to confuse others about how much they paid for "their dream 07 mdx" i am in texas, just bought a brand new, loaded 07 MDX just a day right before xmas (12/23/06. my car got everything, sport, enter., chrom side bar, roof rack and cross bar and all season floormate, tinted window and free loaner car for life (i actually used that option several time, driving brand new 07tl, 07mdx demo) and free oil change for life. total drive out is 50,700 for all that. this is the real number, not to mention that they gave me a very low interest too (5.6%) this is real, not a nonsense number people here keep talking about 3k, 2k ect off msrp, off invoice price....

i got mine at JOHN EAGLE ACURA, talk to LAWRENCE, he is the sale manager, i think i like the guy who is willing to go an extra mile to be fair for both buyer and his boss (the dealer).
