I also notice a $1+ spread from RUG to diesel, but I guess that's not new. Little Caddy "recommends" PUG, so mid grade will do.

PUG at the neighborhood Chevron is $5.30, IIRC. 10 cent cash discount. Costco is about 50 cents less. WA state is highest in the nation now thanks to a poorly implemented carbon tax, which has added much more than initially claimed, and is more regressive taxation.

I paid $4.04/gal for Kroger mid-grade last week.

Put 1/2 a tank of PUG to top it off in the Mustang yesterday, 6 1/2 gallons @$4.499 a gallon.
This was in the greater Cleveland OH area.

Saw a couple stations this morning with RUG under $3 a gallon,
You have to be in their program to get that price, tie rewards card to your checking acct.

Back from a trip to CT for my grand niece's 1st birthday.
We got gas at a couple of Sheetz stations. At both of them, gas for all 3 grades was the same price.
Took my SIL's 2017 Explorer. It got the job done but feels underpowered compared to the newer turbo models and uses a lot more gas.
Second time we filled up at Sheetz, I put in some mid grade. It seemed to run better, especially the 5-6 upshift at the top of the hills. On RUG it could feel somewhat abrupt, but much softer with some mid grade fuel.
I couldn't find out anything about why the prices were the same for all grades.
They do have a high ethanol content 88 octane but I didn't want any of that, and didn't see it at the pumps.

That's really weird.

Don't you have to have a flex fuel vehicle to use E85? (maybe, the Explorer qualifies?)

From what I've heard, MPG really drops off with E85.

The 88 octane is 15% ethanol. Still don't want it.
I don't think the Explorer has a Flex Fuel badge on it.
One of my kids filled up with E85 by mistake once.
Check engine light came on after 40 or 50 miles.
Dealer said just to top off every 100 miles or so and the light went out after a few top off's.

Some states now allow up to 15% ethanol in their normal grades.

Article in the local paper last week about a "gas war" here in Denver, with a few stations advertising RUG for under $2/gal.

I need to fill up today or tomorrow - I think RUG where I am is around $3/gal, and a bit more for midgrade, which I use in the Outback.

Filled up with BP PUG for $3.499. RUG was $2.559. Lowest I saw was $2.499 for RUG.

Well, I'm not trusting Gasbuddy as a source of prices anymore.
Usually I use BP PUG, 93 octane, but I saw their gas was no longer rated as a top tier brand.
After filling up a couple of times wth a local brand GetGo, which is supposed to be top tier but only 92 octane, I didn't like it.
The engine ran louder and not as smooth.
Yesterday, I used Gasbuddy to check the local prices and the BP station price was posted a few hours earlier as being $4.259 a gallon.
When I got there, it was $4.599 but I filled up anyway.
Checked again today and Gasbuddy still lists it as $4.259, updated today.
Maybe there is some kind of discount program, but 34 cents is a lot.
Engine running smoother and quieter, so there is that.

I wonder if the spread is kind of a western thing - in WA I don't think I have seen a spread more than 50 cents or so, and for a long time it was a dime difference per grade.

It is mostly a dollar spread, here. Sometimes, 0.80-0.90 cents

Locally I doubt it is over 20 cents per grade, I want to say the little neighborhood Chevron, which tends to be among the pricier options, is around 15 cents per grade.

I usually never get gas at Costco, because there isn't one nearby, and I rarely have a membership, unless I've made a large purchase.

But, had a meeting just a half-mile away on Wednesday, and drove the Cayman.

I wasn't even sure their PUG was 93 octane, but it is.

RUG: $2.64/gal
PUG: $3.33/gal

I was shocked at how cheap PUG was, so drove by Shell on the way home.

PUG: $3.99 (!!)

For the Outback, I paid $3/gal for mid-grade this week in CO (mid-grade is 87 octane here).

Also filled up the Sportage hybrid. It still has less than 1000 miles on it, so I'm sure the engine isn't fully broken in yet. First tank was around 32 MPG, second tank over 33 MPG. I suspect that the daughter has an above average amount of lead in her right foot.

Saw a sign in Illinois for a Love's, where Diesel was cheaper than RUG. 3.499/3.599.

I filled up today with some Tax Free PUG on the Seneca Indian Reservation for $3.299 a gallon.
So far, best mileage I ever gotten in the Explorer. Rated at 24 MPG highway.
Mostly downhill but 3 people and lots of cargo.
