Dealer I wanted to work with got back to me, thanked my family for our years of patronage, and undercut my offer by $328. I've never had a dealer counter with a lower price before! $27000 out the door. THANK YOU for all your help and guidance!
    stever said:

Seems like people are shooting for $1,500 below invoice (it gets a bit confusing because around here as we generally consider destination to be part of the invoice cost). I do invoice (with destination) and mostly ignore holdback. Holdback is what enables dealers to sell below invoice, along with hood money and other bonuses we don't know about.

    So, $25,158+$880 = $26,038. Minus $1,500 = $24,538.

No need to "check your work". You're spot on. :D

Just make sure the dealer understands that your $27.3 number is out the door with every last thing included. If you think that's going to confuse them, you could start with the $24.5, but really, you shouldn't have to.

    Good luck!

Just a quick update - so far, the best pricing that I have been offered is very close to the Edmunds TMV in Denver: $25,967 including $469 Dealer fee, essentially $71 under invoice.

    Good morning,
We're interested in a 2015 EX AWD - Denver area TMV shows 26,174. Am I wasting my time to offer ~$1,200 below invoice ($24,8xx) inclusive of dealer fees? I know that it won't hurt to try, just interested in your thoughts.

    Thanks,

    Congrats @orpheus82!

@orpheus82, you may have missed the most recent bargaining window now that the 4th holiday is over. Next "bonus days" will be at the end of the month.

It also sounds like you're in a hot market with a booming economy up there, fast home sales, etc. The dealers may be selling cars so easily they don't feel the need to dicker much. Maybe you can hint to the dealer(s) you are working with that the deal isn't good enough and you're taking another hard look at the CX-5 or the Escape or whatever.

If you don't need a new car fast, then stringing the dealer along for ~3 weeks could work in your favor.

I don't know if it would help to expand your search to Colorado Springs or somewhere else out of your metro area.

Thought I share my son's deal today (as we benefit greatly from the forum).

Black LX AWD from Sport Honda in Silver Springs MD.

$21,328 + $880 destation - $500 college rebate + 6% MD tax + $299 processing fees and other misc state fees. 2.3% for 60 months from American Honda.

Missed out on their 4th of July ad car (would have been $500-600 less) but whomever got it was in front of dealer's door hours before opening. Thought the deal was good enough so told son to jump on it as he is looking for an foul weather CUV. He is happy with whole experience and the car.

PS: Had intended to lease but decent loan rate and good resale made buying as attractive as leasing.

Just purchased 2015 CR-V EX 2WD for $23500 OTD (excluded TTL). Car sale price is 23201 (include 880 destination charge), documentation fee $299. Free windows tint but no additional accessories. I think it's pretty good deal, what you think?

    Hi,

I'm from Chicago area and interested in the CRV EXL AWD trim.
The lowest base price I have received is $27,272 (including destination)
    Tax: $2,280
    Title/License: $221
    Dec Fees: $168
    Total OTD: $29,942
Is this a good price? how much lower do you think I should target?
    Thanks !!

@altx11 - I looked into an EX-L FWD here in the Dallas area and the best price I got was $26,600 (includes all dealer fees and add-ons) + TTL. I'm not sure what the price difference should be between FWD and AWD but maybe that'll help you get some idea of where you stand.

@dealskiller - That's an amazing price and I'm a little jealous. The best price by far I was able to get for my EX FWD in the Dallas area was $24,000. I thought about waiting until the end of the next quarter or when the 2016s came out but we decided to bite the bullet and buy two days ago. If I had your deal, I wouldn't have thought twice about it. That's awesome.

Here's a breakdown of the price I paid for my EX FWD:

Sales price: $24,000 (includes tint, door edge guards, mud guards, cargo tray, pin stripe, wheel locks)
    Taxes: $1500
    Title: $38
    Registration: $62.75
    State Inspection: $23.75
    Dealer Inventory tax: $52.58
    Doc fee: $157.25
    TOTAL OTD: $25,834.33

In case anyone's interested we purchased at Lute Riley Honda in Richardson and the experience was great. The manager we worked with was very honest about the price and easy to work with. The OTD price I was quoted over the phone was exactly the price we signed off on when we came to the dealership. All we had to do was sign the papers and drive away. Very easy and exactly how I expect internet shopping to be.

    Congrats @6intexas!

@altx11, there's about $1,100 difference in the AWD EX-L vs the less expensive FWD version (invoice price).

And it looks like you are $1,200 under invoice, so it looks like a good deal from here.

I need some advice buying a car in Maryland. I emailed 6 dealers in the area for quotes on AWD EXL. Most of them seem to be playing games with me and won't give me quotes through email. The lowest I received was for $26,878 (including destination fee) with an OTD price of $29,300 including pinstripes, cargo tray, wheel locks and mudflaps. Should I take this deal or try and follow up with the other dealers that aren't responding?

Comparing your deal to other states @1593 below invoice minus dealers doc fee charge. Its better than most buyers in here are getting. If you email more dealerships expand your search and wait till the very end of the month you will save a few more dollars . MD and CA have the best pricing in the country on Accords , CRV, Pilots and Civic models.

    Hi Everyone,

My girlfriend's lease is up in 2 months and is interested in leasing a CRV-LX in NJ. I asked a dealer that my has done business with us in the past for a quote and she gave me of:
    - $286/mo with $2,000 down. (after some thought, were going to take the 2k off the table),
    -36 mo
    - 12k miles/yr
for the sake of this post how does that offer stack up? She's claiming there is also a special that model. bringing it down to that price. I've looked after other posts in this forum for the LX and it does not seems getting ripped off. Any help?

If you need more details I can do so. Thanks!

This is a long shot, but I wanted to ask. Since I haven't been able to touch any of the below invoice pricing on the CRV here in Denver, we would consider a purchase in California. Already have a trip planned at the end of August and we could cancel the return and car rental with no penalty. We would save the car rental charge and be able to haul some wine back with us!
I assume SoCal has good pricing, anything in the Bay Area?

    Thanks,

Hey, was wondering if anyone in the NYC area could give me some insight on a 2015 CRV. I am looking at the EX but I would love to have the EX-L for the right price. I was offered the price of 28,800 with all fees, taxes included for an EX but I am unaware of the break down of the price. I would like to have the tailgate spoiler, remote engine start and roof rails. I know the TMV in my area (zip code 11363) is 26,500 for the EX and 28,500 for the EX-L. I am hoping to purchase the CRV really soon and would appreciate some help on some good prices for the EX or EX-L OTD.

I think your next step is to get some dealer quotes. When you (hopefully) get a couple of responsive ones, then you can tell them that you are ready to buy "today" and can they sweeten the offer.

(and yeah, we have a dealer quote service here or you can hit the various dealer sites. Or text them...).

I'm debating on whether or not I should wait for clearance sale or just try to buy at the end of this month. Based on the sales of the 2014 models after October 2014 my perception is there isn't that much of a discount on year-end models?

There is depending on dealer stock but your model/ color choices are very limited. I know lots of folks who wait till the end looking for basement bargains on a year end models.

Hello, I've just started my 2015 CRV EX FWD search. So far, I've surfed 3-4 dealer websites in the San Francisco Bay Area to check out the inventory for EX FWD vehicles. So far, it seems no one have many EX FWD models left, and the ones that are still available are colors which I prefer would not buy (I'm looking for like white or black).

I'm also searching for an EX in the SF area. Did you ever make a buy?

I just bought a 2015 CRV EX AWD......and am wondering what everyone thinks about the price I paid

    MSRP 27,675

    Paid 24,300 with destination

    Doc Fee 199.00

Obviously this does not include tax, reg..etc
  • fallenturtlefallenturtle Member Posts: 4
Is it ridiculous to ask $1500 off invoice in the SF CA area for an EX 2WD as my "you'll have my business today" price? I'm paying cash, but I assume that's not a bargaining chip.
  • dealskillerdealskiller Member Posts: 6
Sorry for the late response, here is the update for my 15 CRV EX FWD. sale price $23201 + doc fee $299 + FREE windows tint + FREE splash guard = $23500 OTD. Need to paid TTL separately, 3.25% tax in oklahoma. Dealership is Fowler Honda in Norman OK. Couple drawback about the deal. I was told by the sales person they would have new cars coming in in a week or so, which included the color I preferred. But when I pick up the car, I realized it has 440 miles on it. Dealer still lied about the shipping the car from another dealership on a flatbed when I pick it up, but I know they drove here. The sticker shows the original dealer, which is exactly 400+ miles away. Another issue is engine vibration from CVT, a known issue. I test drive a CR-V on the lot and didn't find vibration, thought the problem was fixed by Honda, but end up getting one with problem. Done deal, can't complain much now. Good luck on negotiation folks, make sure vibration isn't a big deal if you are going after a CR-V, or use it as a way to cut down the price.
  • fallenturtlefallenturtle Member Posts: 4
Update: I decided to round up and say our bottom is $23,400 (base price). They actually offered it on a copper CR-V they had on the lot. I didn't expect them to come close so it caught me off guard. But we figured if it was that easy and because copper is #3 on our preferred color list to walk away. I hope we don't regret that. This did include a Costco discount of 1k off invoice but with the end of the month coming up hopefully we can find an equivalent deal for a better color.

There aren't any dealer incentives on the CR-V, so it seems unlikely that would happen.

    Hi,

I got quote from a dealer in Chicago, IL for the 2015 CR-V EX-L AWD trim.
    Here is the breakdown;

    Base (with Destination): $26,971
    Tax Estimate (8.25%) : $2,241
    Doc Fees : $193
    Tag/Registration : $211

    Total OTD : $29,616

The dealer is throwing in a door guard package which he claims is worth $399
When I visited the showroom, I saw all the CRV's had a paint protection package worth $599 added to its price which I found to be ridiculous.
What are your thoughts on the deal?

    Thanks !!

Your deal is 1500 below invoice minus dealers doc fee. Good deal in Chicago. Paint protection is a added item dealers make a lot of money on, if they could sucker you ? Most good deals dealers will throw it in.

I would never pay for paint protection . All new vehicles have a baked on clear coat finish after there painted . A couple of good layers of wax on top of your paint every 6 to 8 months will protect your clear coat just fine.

Update on my Denver shopping for an EX AWD - I'm starting to hear back from some of my initial inquiries with more aggressive pricing. Nothing like the $1500 below invoice deals that others are reporting, but improved over the ~$100 below from the first of the month. At this point, I assume waiting until the last couple of days of the month and engaging several dealers is the best strategy?
As close as we are to 2016's coming out, I might wait until this fall to see if there is any factory support to clear their 2015's off the lots.

Since you can wait, may as well give it a few more days and then re-engage. Thanks for the update.

Maybe I mentioned this before but it sounds like Denver is booming. More "flush" buyers may mean the dealers don't have to work as hard.
  • chuckster12chuckster12 Member Posts: 25

So I recently purchased a 2015 CR-V EX AWD and for those of you wondering this is the price I paid. I am in the Queens, NY area.

    Vehicle Pre-Fees: $ 25,537.00
    Taxes and Fees: $ 2553.00

I also purchased a Tire Protection package for $900
    OTD: $ 29,028.05
Without the package it would have cost me $ 28,128.05

I feel like it's a fair price considering it is extremely difficult in the Metropolitan area to get deals as great as others living in more rural areas.

I do have to admit I have a bit of buyer's remorse by not getting the EX-L but that would have brought me over the $31-32K range and if it had led to that I would have probably picked a different vehicle. But for the price I paid I think it was a more than fair purchase.

    Hello All,

Hoping to get your thoughts on the best quote I’ve received so far:

2015 Honda CRV EX-L AWD, no navi
    Quoted price:$27,380 (includes Destination $820)
    Doc Fee (NY): $75
    Plus 8.625% Sales Tax: ~$2,661.53

Hoping for an OTD price of around $30.1k

Is this an aggressive price or should I be aiming lower?

Brian, getting ready to sell my 2014 CRV EX-L 2WD NO NAV private party (talk about that later), and buy a 2016 (Sep/Oct arrival) CRV EX-L 2WD NO NAV. So far I've been pricing the 2015's around the DFW area and have come up with the following:

2015 CRV EX-L 2WD NO NAV - Internet sales mgr (M.C. at Huggins) quoted $25,300 over the phone - Yowzer!!...That's $2,001 below the invoice of $27,301 I'm assuming no dealer adds, and hoping they don't jack up the doc fees and dealer inventory tax charge - I consider $200 for both to be fair. From what I've read the price increase for the 2016's should be flat or very close to the same price as the 2015's.

QUESTION: What are the chances I can land a 2016 for say....$25,900 or less:

Selling price (MSRP plus destination): $25,900
Tax in DFW, TX area 6.25% = $1,618.75
    Registration = $63
    Title = $38
    Inspection = $28.75
    County Road & Bridge Fee = $10
    Doc Fees = $150
    Dealer Inventory Tax = $50
    OUT THE DOOR = $ 27,858.50

Assuming no dealer adds - gravy if I can get them thrown in!! Never pay for them
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I'm looking forward to reading about your running the numbers on your private sale vs the trade-in tax credit you'd get on the '14 CR-V. This is an older Google link but everything being equal (like the dealer giving you private party value - yeah, right), you could save a few hundred bucks trading the '14 in on the '16.

Here's the deal I made back on Nov 29, 2013 (Black Friday I believe) at Vandergriff in Arlington.
    2014 CRV EX-L 2WD NO NAV - White Diamond Pearl/Beige Leather
MSRP plus destination on sticker = $28,525
    Dealer Adds:
    Rear Tailgate Spoiler = $699
    Body Side Moldings = $399
    Window Tint = $399
Pro-Pack (Splash Guards, Wheel Locks, Cargo Tray) = $499
Zaktek Sealant Paint Protection (3 yrs free exterior details) = $599
TOTAL Vandergriff Retail Selling Price = $ 31,120.00

Accepted offer after arm wrestling for 2 hours!
    Selling price = $ 26,190
    Sales Tax 6.25% = $ 1,636.88
    Dealer Inventory Tax = $ 58.05
    Doc Fees = $ 150
    Registration Fee = $ 57.75
    Title Fee = $ 33.00
County Road and Bridge Fee = $10
    Inspection Fee = $ 23.75
OUT THE DOOR PAID PRICE = $ 28,159.43

I've had this CRV for almost 20 months and it's in mint condition with 15,480 miles. Looking to sell private party here in DFW soon. Looks like the value is around $25,000 from what I'm seeing.

My idea is buying new and flipping withing 23 months (sweet spot) with low miles. This will cost me way less than leasing (AKA...fleecing - according to Dave Ramsey). If I can get a 2016 for say $28,000 Out the door, and sell this one for $24,000 - then I wound up paying $4,000 to drive a nearly hard loaded CRV with leather for 23 months at only $173.91 per month ($4,000 divided by 23 months) try getting that quote on a 24 month lease - not likely!! Also, this way you typically have nothing due at signing, no security deposit, no mileage concerns, etc. This is how the lease companies make all the money - not you! It's why fleecing is so popular with these car companies - they make the cheese - not us! In fairness however, it's not easy selling a car private party (test drives, qualifying buyers, etc) not to mention trying to collect 24-25K in cash - most people need financing. Any thoughts are welcome!
