    I started out with a AmEx car buying program quote around $20,600 for an Accord LX. I punched in my information and started getting emails from a flurry of dealers. One quoted me a price of $19,458 plus tax, title, and doc fee. I'm thinking of pulling the trigger.

    What do you think?

    Any buying service is going to get a flat fee or percentage of the sale price as a commission...I tried Costco, TrueCar, and a couple others and their prices were always higher than what I could negotiate on my own through internet sales. I simply contacted 5-6 dealers in my area and asked them for their lowest price quote. Ask the dealer, What Dealer Installed Accessories are installed in this vehicle, and how much are they? They can remove any dealer installed accessories and you are not obligated to buy them. Beware of all the dealer-add ons the salesman will push as you are negotiating as well as the finance manager. Also, make sure that the price they quoted you accounts for the delivery fee. One dealer I was negotiating with wanted $499 as a vehicle inspection fee. I told them I would not pay that and they said they couldn't remove it. So they lost my business.

    I paid $24,500 (=$26,844 OTD) for an Accord EX-L, from Norm Reeves Honda in Irvine, CA. Something like $4700 under MSRP.

    No dealer add-ons, and a very quick and pleasant buying experience, except for the five awkward minutes while I explained to the paperwork guy that I was not paying for extra stuff.

    I am looking for an Accord XL in VA, I am not in a rush to buy but very nervous about the process since it will be the first time I buy a car and I am a female. Could someone please explain how the incentives affect the price paid, how should I account for an incentive when trying to reach my target deal ($$ below invoice)?

    Also, does anyone know which dealerships are good to deal with in Northern VA? I heard that the 2015 model will get discounted because of the new 2016 model, when should I start shopping in order to get the 2015 model for the best possible price?

    Brian, I wish you could help in the Civic forum, I am looking for a smaller car but because of the 2016 model I am thinking I could get a better car ( Accord) for nearly the price of the Civic if I buy at the right time. Could you shed some light?

    Use Honda Dealer Rater for your area. Make a list of the better rated dealers that others purchased from then email / call those dealerships for pricing. Cash incentives from the manufacturer are subtracted off the price of the vehicle. you always need to verify and double check if cash incentives were applied to any quotes given. That's why I always preach doing your pre- homework before you start negotiating with dealers. Have a target list of dealers. Know your prices/ dealers doc fee charges. Know what Incentives your entitled to. Know the exact model, color, and options if any. Have a low and high target price to buy. On the day your negotiating is the day your buying vehicle. Always try to buy at the end of the month. Last 2 days, last day or at one of the ending sales Quarters. These simple things will help you make the best possible deal in every area.

    Most dealers if you call / email for a price quote will subtract that cash incentive off the quote. Incentives given directly to the dealership and not the customer is used at Dealers discretion.

    Give me both models ....Civic and Accord you are thinking about buying/ when you want to buy? . I will give you target price ranges for both models. Buying either 2015 model will net you the best deals. 2016 models wont be as favorable.

    Click on my user name @brian125 read thru my 3600 Comments on how to make your best deal. After reading some of my comments on negotiating and buying you should have a better understanding about How this game is played. Then you will be ready to negotiate.

    Invoice w/ dest charge on the EXL model = $26,816 This deal is $1931 below invoice minus 499 doc fee = 1432 below invoice on this deal.

    Sport model is 2000 below invoice minus 499 doc = 1501 below invoice.

    Both excellent deals in CT. Can you do better???? THERE IS ALWAYS THAT POSSIBLITY

    Accessories + (Mudguards, Wheel Locks, Trunk Tray, 3M Door Edge Film Guards): $691.00
    Administrative fee: $599.00
    Ga tax: $1,641.50
    GA Title: $80.00
    Total Drive-out Price: $23,300.50

    Of course, I do not want the accessories, but it is already installed.

    Two questions:
    1. How does this sound?
    2. Should I wait for the 4th of July sale?

    Your Sport model price................. Is a good deal AS is . You may be able to cut Accessory fee's in half . That's all there worth. My suggestion is find another Sport, or have dealer sell you same vehicle without the $691 options in them.

    Going with your suggestions on this forum, I contacted a few more dealers meanwhile and I received $22000 OTD quote for a 2015 Honda Accord Sedan Sport CVT. Another one quoted $22250 for the same car. But other dealers say this is an unrealistic number, gimmicks to get you on their premise. These are supposed to be new cars. I cannot think of anything that could be wrong with the cars. What questions should I ask? Is 22K really unrealistic?

    I am going to purchase a 2015 Honda Accord EX w/CVT in the near future and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on if it would be a better idea to wait until after the 4th holiday or at the end of July to buy instead of before that time.

    Also, the best price that I have received so far is $24,915 OTD in the Orlando, FL market. I believe that I can get lower so I'll probably wait but just wanted to get the group's opinions.

    I'm getting 22,900-23,100 OTD (tax,fees,etc) around Philly suburban area for a 2015 Honda Accord Sport CVT on the first round. Not what I'm willing to pay. Will try again tomorrow, although I don't anticipate miracles.

    I plan on buying a Honda Accord coupe EX L trim. I am a first time buyer so have absolutely no experience with the buying procedure. Also, I am new to the area so would want to have negotiation done on phone/email. As of now, I am getting a deal for $24,611(plus tax,fees,etc). Is this a good deal ? Or can I push in a little more? Do car-dealers have some specials on 4th july weekend?

    I paid 22191 OTD in MD in the middle of the month but taxes/registration is slightly less in MD. The other dealers also warned me that there might be some catch but there wasnt. The pricing looks real competitive now but still wonder if it will get better with the next model coming out. In my case, I needed a car now so I couldnt really wait anymore.

    $30,250.00 (includes delivery charge)
    OTD price (w/taxes, registration, license, doc fees): $33,312.00

    I bought last night for $19,485 for a black Accord LX. That included destination charge, but not tax, or doc fees. Tax was 7%. Had $149 doc fee, and like $18 in other charges. $21,014 OTD. I was happy with that.

    Hey guys, I just want to preface this with the fact that I'm a first time car buyer. I had a horrible experience with some dealership psychology and sales tactics.

    Quick version:
    2015 EX CVT - 36 month lease with 12k miles per year - $3800 down including all TTL, additions and first month's payment - $211.89/month for 35 months with Sentinel care package (before the care package was added the terms were $3800 down, $210/month). RV was 57%.

    Long version:
    I live in the DFW metroplex, and the best deal I could find for an Accord was the LX for $137/month and $0 down excluding TTL and fees for additions.

    I wanted the 2015 EX CVT model for the moonroof and upgraded speakers, and after looking at the differences in MSRP, found that there was around a $2000 difference between the LX and EX models. This equated to about a $60 increase in monthly lease payments over the LX.
    So the deal I came to the table with was- $0 down, $0 TTL and $200/month for the 2015 EX CVT Sedan without navigation (not sure if you can even get an EX with navigation). The lease terms were 36 months with 12k miles per year.

    They came back with a bunch of numbers trying to show me how with an increase in TTL and additions, the price would actually be around $365/month with $0 down, obviously far too high.

    Residual value was 57%, and the MSRP of the car with destination fees was $26,650 ($25,830 MSRP and $820 destination fees). Additions to the car totaled around $1900 (stuff I couldn't negotiate like pre-tinting windows, adding a stripe to the side, bumper guards), TTL was $1665.625 and other fees were around $700 total.

    At this point they said that was the final offer and that they couldn't budge, so I was ready to walk out. Then the sales guy told us to offer what we thought would be a reasonable price.

    Here is where I think I made my first mistake.

    I said $3800 down, including first payment with $200/month for the next 35 months inclusive of TTL and all other fees. This seemed reasonable because I calculated the residual value after 3 years of the car to be $15190.50, which meant the car depreciated $11.459.50 over the 3 years.

    They came back with $3800 down and $237/month, and I told them I wouldn't budge from my number.

    They came back with $3800 down and $210/month inclusive of all TTL and other costs, and I did some calculations which basically looked like this: $3800 + $210*35 = $11,150.

    This is where I think I made my second mistake.

    I assumed that because I was lower than the depreciation cost of the car that I was getting a good deal. To the more seasoned car buyers, was I wrong?

    The rest of the deal was annoying because I had to sit with a racist and hotheaded finance manager who pushed the sentinel care package on at $238/month, and I adamantly refused any increase in cost until he brought it down to $211.89/month.

    So the final deal was 36 month lease with 12k miles per year, $3800 down including all TTL, additions and first month's payment, $211.89/month for 35 months with Sentinel care package.

    How did I do? What could I have done better? Any advice is appreciated.

    First, congratulations on the new Accord! You'll enjoy driving it long after the feelings you had during the purchase process are gone.

    A couple of notes - think of it as a learning experience, which you'll get to apply in 3 years when this lease is up:

    We don't recommend making a down payment on a lease - if the car is stolen or totaled, you lose that money. The total cost of the lease stays the same, but the monthly payment, as you've seen, goes down.

    Not all of the $3800 you put down was a true "down payment" - I suspect that $2400 taken out to pay taxes and the other up front fees. (side note - leasing in Texas is more expensive than in other states, as the sales tax is calculated against the entire selling price of the car, not just the monthly payment). So, the remaining $1400 was used as down payment. Over 36 months, this is about $39/mo, so your "true" payment is closer to $251 - still a great deal on a car that stickers for almost $27K.

    Second, we don't recommend negotiating on the payment .. negotiate the best selling price you can and make sure the dealer isn't marking up the money factor (interest rate for a lease). It's rare for Honda dealers to do this, but we don't really know in your case.

    So, overall, a decent deal.

    When ready for your next deal, save yourself a whole lot of aggravation and frustration - do all your negotiating via email dealing only with Internet folks at the dealers. This takes a lot of the emotion out of the process and you can analyze the quality of the deal at your leisure with a clear mind. When you've narrowed your dealers to the few you trust are being straight with you, you can establish phone contact to concentrate on the details. Also, like Michael said, do not ever put that much cash up front on a lease, especially when very low money factors are involved. If there are incentives available, use that as the drive off, otherwise don't put any more than $500 up front - roll everything else into the lease payment.

    Congrats on your new Accord EX - they are fantastic vehicles!

    1) It is possible to buy 2015 Honda Accord LX CVT for $19,000 (or ~OTD $21,000), and
    2) Honda Accord Sport CVT for $20,000 (or OTD ~$22400)

    A huge thank you to Brian and all those who have posted here which helped me close the deal yesterday in southern Minnesota on an Accord LX cvt champgne with no accessories to start, but I requested and got splash guards and trunk tray thrown in.
    Negotiated price (incl. $820 destination and $75 doc fee) $19,500
    Sales tax 1,263
    City tax 20
    License 355

    OTD 21,138

    Sent initial email to 12 dealers in 100 mile radius on 6/29 at noon. Offer of $20K incl. dest. and doc. quickly accepted by first 2 dealers incl. local dealership. Amended offer to $19,500 to other 10 emails....3 accepted. Yesterday (6/30) emailed local dealer first asking them to match $19,500 and add splash guards and trunk tray...accepted.
    Doing everything via internet was great! I feel that it leveled the playing field vs. being in a showroom which is their turf and they've got you out-numbered. It makes it much easier to think clearly.
    Gut feeling is I could have maybe pushed a little harder and/ or strung it out in to the 4th. July weekend hoping for a better deal. Decided to pull the trigger knowing champagne color was tough to come by in an LX around here, local dealer had it and money kept in the community, and I'm more than satisfied with the bottom line.

    Yes it is possible in some area's . Buyers beware!!!! Don't be fooled into thinking your area should net the same deal as above...It may not. How you determine this is by getting as many dealerships involved in the price wars as far as your willing to travel to make your deal. This process then represents your area's market price on that particular month your buying. That's how you make your best possible deal.

    I wont beat a dead horse here..... That's why I always preach BUY last 2 days, last day of any month . You played it beautifully. Avoid the first , 3 and half week nonsense dealers pull on us. . You have the dealers full attention at months end. Especially dealers needing those sales quotas..

    Yes it is possible in some area's . Buyers beware!!!! Don't be fooled into thinking your area should net the same deal as above...It may not. How you determine this is by getting as many dealerships involved in the price wars as far as your willing to travel to make your deal. This process then represents your area's market price on that particular month your buying. That's how you make your best possible deal.

    $1000 more off a Coupe model is not happening. @ras-cha deal is already at over 2200 below invoice price.

    I'm guessing you meant for a sedan exl model not a coupe.

    I'm in Los Angeles area, a very small dealer quote me 2015 Accord EXL w/ Navi 4cyl for $25600 + TTL, a friend got LX from another dealer for $214K OTD from OC, I think it maybe few hundreds lower this weenend. But the dealer that quote EXL is small, only 1 color available, the next lowest quote is $26.1K and $26.2K. Will go to dealer tomorrow.

    Btw, how did you do? I'm in CA too. Are you looking at sedans or coupes?

    Another data point. Thanks in a large part to this thread I was able to negotiate a deal on a new 2015 Accord LX, white/ivory for $21700 out the door in So Cal. That equates to just under $19000 for the car. Financed at 0.9% for 60 mo. I also picked up a 8yr/100k extended warranty for an extra $1300. I am very happy with the deal.

    Its a very good sale price on the lx-s model at 2175 below invoice. Check in the Accord leasing forum that dealers numbers are correct. Excellent price on deal #2.

    I am looking to purchase a new 2015 Honda Accord CVT LX or EX at month's end and was wondering what prices you currently have each of those trims going for. What would a good target for an OTD price for each trim? I live in the Orlando, FL area.

    OTD pricing Consists of your States sales tax , dmv fee's and dealers doc fee charge. There probably are a few other small charges like Tire disposal fee in some states or a Internet charge, etc. Have dealers breakdown your OTD pricing. Remember every state nets a different OTD # due to these prices.

    LX model most likely will net you a better deal cause most dealerships still have plenty on there lots. EX models might not be as many resulting in a smaller savings.

    A good target price range for the end of this month is $1400 to as low as 2k plus below dealers invoice.


    In FL. getting that best price of 2k plus below Invoice may be very hard. You will need to work for that number pitting dealers against each other/ finding dealers with a lot of stock on there lots, or finding that 1 or 2 dealers at months end needing final sales incentives. A good deal will fall in between that price range.

    Pricing in CA are excellent. If above prices are only good for today you may have to wait till the very end of this month to make a similar deal.

    I wanted to share what I think is a good deal that I made in Dallas, Texas (DFW) yesterday (7/6) and pass along props to Rusty Wallis Honda. Here's what I got:

    --$27,899 OTD for a new 2015 EX-L V6
    --the following extras were included: Honda protection package, splash guards, cargo tray, floor mats, window tint, wheel locks, color keyed molding package, pin stripe, and 2 free oil changes and some other benefits as part of the dealership's platinum rewards program.
    --also got in on the 0.9% Honda financing deal that ended yesterday

    Not sure how brian125 or others would calculate how far below invoice this works out to be. But it seems better than what others in Texas in general and DFW in particular have been reporting, AND much better than some area dealerships told me was possible here (hahaha). I'm very pleased with the outcome and purchase experience.

    I can't overstate what a pleasure it was to work with Rusty Wallis Honda, starting with Alan Stowers in the internet dept who was professional, respectful, honest, forthright, and exerted zero pressure or slimy sales tactics and kept his word throughout as if he didn't know there's any other way to be. Xavier Maldonado was the same way when he helped us complete the transaction and take delivery of the car. John Haddock in the finance department was equally courteous, professional and easy to work with, reflecting the opposite of the stereotypical finance guy who plays the role of the "heavy" at the end of the transaction. I kept waiting for the conflict to start and to have to fight for the OTD price we agreed to in our email exchanges, but it never came. What a breath of fresh air dealing with Rusty Wallis Honda!

    There were a couple other dealerships that quoted me the same price or were within $500 of it. Manny Garza, the internet sales manager at Honda of Fort Worth was great to negotiate with -- a no nonsense straight shooter. I would've bought from Manny without hesitation but got delayed and couldn't make it to his dealership before they closed. Honda of Rockwall was also very competitive. Other dealerships were $1000+ higher, some of the bigger ones didn't even try to compete (McDavid, Honda of McKinney, John Eagle), and others didn't even respond to my emails or lost my business by not taking my inquiry seriously or playing the usual "let's get you in for a test drive and we'll talk price" game.

    I've been buying my cars online for 15+ years using the same methods brian125 and others so helpfully describe in these forums. I can wholeheartedly endorse this approach. Thanks to the Edmunds community for once again contributing to a successful car buying experience for my family.

I basically sent by Invoice -1300-750 end of year sell down. I know that there is probably 1K or more available for the selldown, but I didn't think I would get those numbers.

    Forgot to say this was in New York on Long Island. It is slightly tougher to get the great deals here that I see elsewhere.

    Huntington Honda. Hit the wall with Nardy and Baron, although they were both pleasant and up front. Atlantic said they'd beat any 'real deal' by $400, but I had a bad experience with them once and frankly, had car dealer fatigue.

    Atlantic Honda has gotten better. I send a lot of buyers over to Huntington. Nardy and Baron are garbage time.
