    Hi,
I am interested in buying a Pilot, 2007 EX, no leather/DVD 4WD. I in on long Island. I stated getting some internet pricing from local dealer.
2 prices came back so far, they are $100 difference between the 2 quote.
    MSRP $ 30,945
    Selling price $ 27,867
This price includes all fees, only need to add Tax and DMV
APR was 2.9% for 3 years. Is this a good price? Also this will be our 3rd Honda. Does Honda offer loyalty rebates. I did not tell them yet that I was to trade in a 2000 Accord. Any info would be appreciated. My wife is expecting in the next 2 weeks and this will be a present for her.
    Thanks, Mark

    MSRP $ 31,540.00

    Mark,
I am in NJ and I have to admit that is a high price for pilot without any excess trim. I have been negotiation for the past 2 weeks with several and I have several dealers down to $28000 including destination for a 2wd Pilot with navigation. A
Your qoute at 27K for a base version is less than 2000 difference. I am not ready to pull hte trigger on my deals as yet as I think that by the end of the month with memorial day weekend I am sure the price will go down more...

One other thing. While I understnad your wife will soon be due, do not buy on impulse, try to get a better deal...

I also am looking for a 2 wd Pilot elx with res in NJ or eastern PA - can you share with me some of the dealers that have given you the quote of 28000
  • todostodos Member Posts: 13
Pilotnj1 I have been dealing with the following dealerships for the 2wd exl w/nav:all these also include destination. EXL with Res is always going to be at least 500-600 cheaper than that of the Nav, so you will be right in the 27500-28000 arena if you are a good negotiator.

    Joyce Honda price quoted $28,700.
    Honda of Essex - $28,500
    Hudson honda - $29,000
Metro Honda in NJ I have a guarantee in writing that they will beat my lowest price $28,500 for any quote from a dealerhip within 50 miles by 500-1500. They also throw in on the weekends per their online add which you ahve to take with you a free DVD, NAV or remote starter for any new purchase. But you must bring the add to get the offer. Therefore with them, once I bring in my emailed docs I will be shaving off up to a grand off $28,500.

The key is to let them know you are shopping around and do not be afraid to walk away.

Im looking to buy a Honda Pilot (in Fort Lauderdale) but do not particularly want all of the gadgets and add-ons, so an LX is fine - of which there are no posts! Does anyone have an LX and an opinion about it?

Doing a few calculations from all the posts on here, Im anticipating getting to a price of not much more than $22K. Any thoughts? Tips? Prices paid elsewhere?

    Thanks!

First post here. I am looking for a 2WD base EX.
I can go with either Nimbus grey or Silver.
Do you think $26,400 OTD is reasonable? Seeing that gas prices are rising and dealers seem to have a bunch of them on the lots. If anyone knows a dealer in Houston that will do this price, please reply.

I'm looking for a 07' EX 2WD. Edmunds shows the TMV price is about $26000. Does it already include the $2000 rebate or I should negotiate more by substrating $2000 from $26000 = $24000? Thanks a lot.
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Folks are getting 6000+ off now, so if you can work 6000+ off an ex and only 5000 off an lx (there aren't as many of them) you know what to do. Check out message 8672 in this forum and 14394 in the accord prices paid section for more info.

Yes, you want it for about 6000+ off MSRP, so your 23-24000 number is it. In many regions the 2wd is scarce so you may get a better deal on the awd especially if choosy on colors(and a much more useful vehicle) Check out message 9070 for more info. You can lose a lot, especially in the 20mpg segment, by paying attention to edmunds TMV.

Ok, so just keep things updated I will share where I am at so far.

I requested about 13 quotes and the best I have at the moment is $24,495 + TTL from Honda of Santa Ana. (For an EX 2-WD)

I was trying to point out to the Santa Ana guy that I intend to pay less and he told me to move down to the LX. I have not told him that I intend to pay cash (Credit Union financing) yet.

I guess my question is are there any particular tactics used when negotiating via Email? All I have is to give an idea of confidence that I will pay less than what he is offering. (Any suggestions would be appreciated) Should I just start taking his quote to other dealers to see what I can work it down to?

    :) Hi there,

we just bought a Ex AWD here in northern Cali, so idon't know if Santa Ana is in California as well. The best quote that i got for an EX 2WD was for 24,700 + TTL.... We didn't go the 2WD route since the three dealers we visited hardly had any 2WD in stock (and i know of some dealerships that were sold out).

My opinion is 24,495 is a decent deal IF the dealers around your area are low on 2WD stock. Here is what i would do, i would e-mail him and say " i will buy the car today if you had it for this price $xxxxxx " see what he says. if you are in no hurry then ask the other dealers around you to beat the price.

our experience was we visited 3 dealers on saturday that we were playing e-mail tag with for about a month. dealer 2 and 3 had the AWD for $6K off MSRP (no 2WD in stock). dealer 3 made a really strong offer of $1200 more than what dealer 2 was offering for trade in. told dealer 3 that i would go home and think about it, they tried to get me to buy THAT DAY, threw 3 different people at me (this made me think that there may be a little wiggle room to go). Went home ;) . E-mailed dealer 2 and asked him how close he could get to dealer 3 price he says his price was rock bottom and maybe i should look into LX (sound familiar?). Called dealer 3 Sunday morning and said i like the car, but going to visit some other dealers, WHAT IS YOUR BEST PRICE.... Call came back $300 less than saturday price. went down/testdrove/bought out of there in 2-3 hours

    some suggestions:
*** dealer 1,2,3 had the best quotes on the pilots (this was after playing can you match this price via e-mail for ONE MONTH).
    1) go to the dealership. look around, is the dealership empty (mine was empty!! on Saturday AND Sunday!!)
    2) how long have they had the car in the lot (had mine for 90+ days)
    3) do they have more 2WD than AWD's?
    4) Have a price written in your head, IF they MAtch that price then Buy the car and Be HAPPY :)
    5) There will be people who get a better "deal" out there, but as long as you are happy that you were well informed buying the car and were not "taken" by the dealership then that is all that matters :)

GOOD LUCK AND LET US KNOW HOW IT TURNS OUT
1 month ago i stumbled on this site, used their tips and am know a happy owner of a Pilot AWD!!!
  • hondahenryhondahenry Member Posts: 35
Thanks for the info. Did you tell the dealers upfront that you were trading in? Should tradein be a separate deal to negotiate? Thanks again.
  • 07pilot4me07pilot4me Member Posts: 52
i got the quotes before they knew i was trading in. So basically, got the lowest quotes (1 month process), showed my trade-in vehicle to the three dealers and one dealer showed me the money ($1200 more to be exact).

so you can say that that dealer won by offering me more for our trade-in. by the way, our trade in is not a very popular car, it had no inquiries for the month that we were trying to sell privately.

my suggestion is make the trade-in a seperate negotiation, one dealer might give you a good price on pilot but not on trade - in,,,, but at same token look at the final price and see if you agree with it (pilot +/- your trade-in value)

GL and keep us up to date

Yes, do get competing bids from 10-30 dealers within a radius of your home. Give your cell # to the winners of round 1. The honda dealer locator makes this easy. Time it for last week or so of the month. Check out my message 9070 for more info.

You are shooting for 6000-7000 off a 31000+ pilot. 7000-8000 off last summer was common. Preferably get an awd model as there are more of them in most regions. Work the top 3 against each other. Sometimes the last few days become dueling banjos in your favor.

    --jjf

Thanks for your excellent advice. My wife and I have been researching cars off and on for about 6 months now and have pretty much narrowed our decision down to a Piolet. I am considereing your advice to seek the best offer from dealerships w/in a 50 mi radius. However, we live w/in driving distance to the Dublin Honda dealership; in light of your positive experience at this dealership, would you recommend that we seek an offer with the Dublin dealership and if so, do you have a contact you can recommend, or would you still suggest that we seek offers from multiple dealerships?
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
Yes, solicit bids from 20-30 dealers via the honda website last week of the month. You are buying before end of month and are contacting 20 dealers. Give your cell # out to the best after round 1. Check out my message 9070 for more info. You may develop a shooting gallery among 2-4 dealers at this time (or maybe not) and just work them lower. In some parts of the country the 2wd is scarce so get bids on the awd also. You may get a much better deal--within $600 of a 2wd (as well as a more useful vehicle)

    Good Luck

New to Pilot world. Here's the price I've received today from a "clear and simple" dealer, and another local dealer reluctantly matched.

The selling price with discounts is $28,431, but the out the door costs are $30,587.
This is how its broken down:

MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price: $33,840
Our discounted Clear & Simple Price is: $30,831
Honda Discount in lieu of leasing: -$2,000
    Cardinal Honda Internet discount: -$400
Final price before Fees, taxes & reg: $28,431
    Dealer Processing Fee: $269.00
    State Sales Tax 6% $1,700
    Motor Vehicle Registration: $165.0

costs including discounts, dealer processing fee, sales tax
and motor vehicle registration is: $30,587

.... Is this a good deal/decent deal/ bad deal? Any other incentives, negotiating strategies I might employ?

    Any help is much appreciated?

Also, Anyone have commentary on Branfon Honda in Brandford CT?

    thanks

I have been negotiating with several dealer, internet pricing, I am almost at the $5,000 off MSRP, currently at $ 4,664 off Pilot EX base model. I have not mentioned that I have a trade in. In some of the email there were questions asking if I had a trade in and that will affect the bottom line selling price. Based on Kelly blue book value for my car ( 2000 Honda Accord LX 42,000 miles, excellent condition) the trade in price is $ 8,275 for excellent condition and $ 7,710 good condition. The private party sales are about $ 1,700 more than the trade in.
What could I, should I expect for trade in price? What is the best way to negotiate this?
    Thanks, Mark

I purchased 2007 EX-L 4WD (No RES, No NAV) at Fair Honda in Danbury CT on April 30th.

I paid $29550 out the door (dealer threw in wheel locks for free). So you are paying about 1K more than what I paid.

    dvsrikanth :
thanks for the update, much appreciated.
Any insight on where I might negotiate further? I had a $2000 Honda purchase incentive, and what was described as a $400 internet special.
    I'm blanking. What is (RES?)
I mentioned Dealer Holdback, and they never want to discuss.
Branfon Honda was relatively quick to match, when I presented the offer from Cardinal, noting what a good deal, etc etc.
Any suggestions where I might be able to obtain a comprable quote from FAIR honda in Danbury.
Alluding to "I heard from someone who paid $29550" out the door won't likely get me to far.
I appreciate any insight you may offer.

    thanks

Been soliciting offers from various dealerships around the town. Received quite a few with a big range of price ($26000 -$28000) for EX 2WD. Can somebody tell me how to press a dealer to match another's price? Shall I just bring the name of the dealer and their price to another? How can I get a lower offer than the ones I already received? Thanks a lot.

I just picked up my 2007 Silver Honda Pilot EX-L AWD for 30600 OTD which means 27980 for the vehicle. No added accessories or warranties. I live in California where the tax is 8.25%.

    The breakdown is as follows:

Pilot: 27980 (includes dest) (5840 off MSRP)
    Doc Fee: 55.00
    Tax: 2312.89
    DMV: 257.75
    --------------
    $30605.64

I followed what everyone has been saying. Solicited emails only from multiple dealers 200-300 mile radius and found it locally. I did a large mile radius to make sure So Cal isn't cheaper than Nor Cal or Sac Valley. Then I ask one dealership to match the price and he did without even hesitating. The Pilot is awesome!

I'll buy the warranty later. There was a lot of pressure to buy it, but I heald my ground so I won't get ripped off. Boy did they make it sound like you were risking your life away!

Hope this helps! Good luck to all.

Which dealership did you buy from in N. California? I am looking at the same vehicle you purchased. The "best" deal was like $400 more, but this was early in May.

I have been reading these forums because I am looking for a 2007 Pilot EXL with Nav and want to get the best price.

One thing that has confused me is all the talk about AWD vehicles. All I have seen is 2WD and 4WD. Am I missing something? I have no desire for off-roading, just a comfy vehicle to use around town and travel in. I have a Great Dane so I need enough room in back for her to travel comfortably.

Thanks for your help. I will continue to read and learn.

Yes AWD=4wd (at least discussing a pilot)

Myhondawarranty.com for one of the best prices on Hondacare warranties. (purchaseable just before 36000 mile factory warranty is up for just a bit more.) I'll bet you their prices were at least $600 more than the online prices.

    Thanks jjf.

Another question then. Is financing from an external source, e.g. Capital One or something, the same as paying cash? They offer a rate 1 point over the Honda one, so about $700 more to pay back... thus anything over $700 additional knocked off the price would be a good deal.

What would a good LX/EX discount be for a cash deal?

I researched this for a while. I live in Smithtown but Nardy would not or could not give me a good # and huntington was like visting a carnival.... not comfortable at all.. I will use Nardy for service since I live about 2 miles from them. I ended up buying a PILOT EX-L with RES from Atlantic in Bayshore on Saturday.. Paid $30,464... sticker was $35,440 If you want I can give you the name of the sales person. She was great. That whole team did whatever they could to make the deal.. Good Luck. ;)

I live in MA (state tax: 5%). I just picked up EX-L 4WD for 29,246 OTD

    Breakdown:
Price of the Pilot (incl dest): $27732 ($6108 off the MSRP)
Tax (reduced due to trade in): $1200
    Documentation: $244
    Registry: $70
    Total: $29246

Also got extra set of wheel locks and floor mats included in the deal. There was some pressure to buy the warranty but not too much. Looks like a good time to buy 07 Pilots as dealers want to makw room for the 08 Pilots.

    Hope it helps!

Thanks for the email. The prices you gave Paid $30,464... sticker was $35,440. Was the $30,464 out the door or before taxes/other fees? How much off MSRP did they give. Atlantic was by far the worst with me. They only have me $ 1,500 off MSRP. Nardy still waiting on, Huntington, I am actually close to a deal. We are now negotiating my trade in. They seem to be willing to give me the best price I got so far of $ 5,122 off MSRP from a dealer in CT. Thanks,

I saw all purchases towards EX or EX-L. How about LX trim? I am looking for a Pilot LX 2WD. Any inputs are appreciated.

Thank you again for the great advice. I will take your advice, and will e-mail bids to several dealers in the N. Cal area and will post the results. I will also take your advice to wait to the end of the month.

Does anyone have advice or experience with a trade in? Is it a critical factor in the overall purchase price of a Pilot? I am thinking about selling my current vehicle, vs. negotiating with the dealer on a trade-in. I understand that the price dealers are willing to pay is less than what you can sell a vehicle on your own. Any advice would be appreciated for this part of the deal.

So far the best price I have found is $28,895 which includes the navigation system and destination.

I do not have to buy now. Trying to go from 3 cars to 2 but really no hurry. Do you think I should wait? Or is $5475 off MSRP about as good as it gets?

I am in very south Georgia, Atlanta is 250 miles north. Haven't tried Jacksonville Fl. Anyone have any experience there?

it was 5K off MSRP. Talk to Yvette and or Bruce Deichtman at Atlantic. Tell her/him that John from Smithtown who bought the Pilot on Saturday said you would match the type deal I got :)

I've e-mailed about 10 dealers in a 70 mile radius in Western NY and the best price I received was exactly invoice minus the $2K on an AWD EX-L ($28,696). On the second round round of e-mails, I haven't had anyone beat it and only one match it even though they've been told invoice is what they are up against. My target price is $28,000, which I haven't released to anyone, but I'm getting the feeling another $700 off isn't going to happen. Unless I run into a motivated seller, should I resign myself to just working on what I can get for accessories at this point and be happy with getting a price at invoice or is getting under invoice something that will likely have to be done at the dealership?
  • tuggerstuggers Member Posts: 52
Had to go to a small town 45 miles from home today to see a doctor so decided to stop at the local dealer (who quoted me $30,500 from email inquiries)for a test drive. I had not driven the Pilot until today.

I thought it drove fine but I was a little surprised that even the EXL was not a little more plush. Looked good and sturdy though. I was not expecting column shift but he said they all come this way.

He emailed me after I got home and came up with $28,2000. His email said that it included everything (including wheel locks) except TT&L and dealer 'fee'.

Now I'm really confused. They are not a big dealer and they had about 10 on the lot. Maybe with the price of gas and the '08's coming out I should wait a little?

    Opinions please.

Thanks to everyone for all your posts and help. I just picked up my pilot last night after two weeks of haggling with dealerships. For all those shopping in the DC area, here is the best deal I could get...

2007 Pilot EX-L AWD w/ DVD RES (Silver Billet)
    MSRP - 34845.00
    Destination - $595
Added Options - Appearance package plus wheel locks

    Negotiated Price - $28988.00
    Destination -$595.00
    Processing - $299.00
    VA Tax (3.17%) - $947.26
    Title & License - $58.50
    Out The Door - $30887.76

This is 2500 under invoice and about 6K under MSRP. Pilot was purchased from Tysons Honda. All other dealers were 400-600 higher and most flat out refused this price...

Good luck to all - Tysons was top notch to deal with. No surprises, no shady attempted upsells...

    Trae :)

Is this a cash payment price or using the 2.9% APR that Honda is offering? It looks like there is $2000 incentive on all cash, and $500 in case you take financing. So it is hard to figure out if the price quotes includes financing or not.

    Thanks!

It wasn't specified. Just got the quote yesterday from
Gwinnett Place Honda in Atlanta. It wasn't mentioned if it was LX or EX, I am assuming LX at that price.

I asked to be quoted on EXL 2WD w/Nav.

So far haven't gotten a response back as to the trim for that quote or a quote on what I asked for.
