What should I expect to pay for a 2007 EX-L AWD (without RES or NAV) in the New Jersey area?

Is $6,500 off MSRP reasonable if I buy at the end of this month (quarter end)?
  • mgns59mgns59 Member Posts: 4
The best deal I can get for 07 EX-L AWD w/RES in Detroit metro area is 29,400 + doc fee +6% tax. Is this a reasonable deal? Anyone else from this area - please share your buying experience.
  • dampmpdampmp Member Posts: 9
    FYI
After contacting many dealerships, I also got within a few dollars and mean only dollars of your quote from same dealer. Will probably be going back to them to purchase soon. The guy said nothing changed for June.

I got $5,600 off MSRP in Los Angeles for EX-L AWD (no RES or NAV) through Internet quotes. $6,500 would be a great deal, but might be tough to find.

You never know, but in July the mfg-to-dealer cash might go up (I believe it was $3K last year), but then the inventory of 2007 models might be small because the 2008's will be on the way soon.

I purchase my Honda Pilot with EX-L w/ NAV from Spirit Honda of El Monte with $6400 off MSRP. I recommend negotiating a deal with Spirit Honda.

Thought I would post my buying experience also. This and other sites were a help. I may not have gotten the absolute best deal, but I think it was reasonable.

I didn't go about it exactly like people here have posted. I actually got the best price from the first and only dealer I visited. After getting that first quote, I left hoping I could get a better deal through online quotes. I sent requests throught Honda's website to 12 dealers. Not a one of them came close to the deal I originally worked at the dealership. I even got as many as 4 re-negotiated quotes and no one would come down further without me visiting the dealership. I figured that since no one was close (within $900), I might as well go with the place I visited.

The price seems in the middle of the decent deals here, so I figured it wasn't bad.

MRSP (including destination and no dealer addons) - $34,140
    Negotiated price - $28,140
    Tax (6.25%) - $1758.75
    Title, License, etc. - $236.63
    OTD - $30,135.18

Basically, $6,000 off MSRP. I didn't get the appearance package, extra warranties or anything. In addition, I had no trade-in. Straight OTD price. I think it was a fair deal. I don't think anyone in the area would have done much better even if I would have visited them and this dealership was the closest to where I live.

    Thanks again.

Currently shopping for SUV, here is what quote I got from the dealer here in Portland, OR:

2007 Pilot LX (w/ mudguards, cargo tray)
    MSRP $28,990
    Offer $24,500 w/ 100k warranty
    Fees, Taxes $26,714 OTD price.

Is that a good price or should I continue shopping? Any suggestions?
  • 07exlres07exlres Member Posts: 11
What are they charging for the extended warranty? A good price target of $6000 below MSRP would put you at $22,990 for the vehicle, meaning that the warranty is effectively (in this case) costing you $1510. You can buy the warranty online, after the fact, for around $1200. I'd shoot for an offer price of @24,200 or less, including the warranty, or under $23,000 for just the vehicle.

What is your tax rate? Hard to evaluate whether there is any "hidden" profit in the deal without knowing how much of the difference between the OTD and the offer is taxes (pass through for the dealer).
  • pogiru96pogiru96 Member Posts: 13
I tried pushing for $23,000 just for the vehicle but they wouldn't budge  . They started laughing and telling me that I expect too much  . The tax is 8.5% roughly $2,100 and titling fees are the rest, so the car itself is $24,500 not including taxes and registration. What kind of tactics can I use to make the price go down?

When bargaining for the price what should I do about the options like mud guards, cargo tray, and etc.?

Thank you for your great help and insight. All help is greatly appreciated.

I'm in Rhode Island. Dealer offer 28,400. I left and said I'd think it over. I will probably counter-offer 27,500 and see where it goes from there.
    Questions:
    1) Is low APR (2.9/4.9) still available from Honda? No longer showing up as incentive on Edmunds, but Kelley blue book shows it is on till 7/2/07.
    2) Does the dealer still get the $2000 Manf>dealer incentive from honda if I finance through Honda...one dealership told me they don't and I want to verify that. I imagine it would effect the best price they would be willing to give me.

Any good recommendations for northern NJ Honda dealers who are negotiating good prices for Pilots and Odysseys ?

Also, if anyone recd fair value for their trade ins, please inform the name of dealer. I am looking for a 2005 Highlander V6 with 12k miles on it...and am afraid I will get hosed on the trade-in. Would like to get $16-$17k for the trade in, is that unreasonable? Thanks.

I'm also in RI, and have gotten several online quotes. (Plan to buy the Pilot at month's end.) FWIW, the best offers I have so far are:
    Boch: $27,500 which includes destination
    Metro: $27,950 also including destination
Majestic: came in about 1K higher but said they would match or beat any deal I could show them.
Saccucci: Said they could sell the Pilot for "less than 29K, but that the 2K incentive expired at the end of June." I told the salesman no thanks.
I have not counteroffered any of those prices, just emailed the dealers and asked for their best price.
Good luck and please post what you end up with!

I just started negotiating for a 2007 Pilot LX 2WD, and so far got down to $22,800. I;m shooting for $6k below MSRP ($27,095 - $6k = $21,095, then add $595 dest charge = $21,690). Do you guys think that's asking too much? Let me know. Thanks!

    p.s. Love this forum!!!!!
  • pogiru96pogiru96 Member Posts: 13
Highly improbable, first things first I don’t know what kind of dealer options it has installed (mudguards, wheel locks, cargo tray, etc.), but lets assume it has nothing.

Second, dealer invoice with destination is $25,000 so what you trying to tell us is that you want dealer to sell you this car $1,300 under invoice (not counting rebates because they come from factory)? There is very high possibility that this is will not happen. Even with dealers hold back of $950 and all the bonuses, he will still be in the whole by couple of hundreds of dollars.

What I will do is try to nock it down to $22,500 and buy it. At this point you are paying $500 under invoice, what dealer has paid for this car, plus $2000 rebate. The end result is that you getting a great SUV under $2500 invoice.

    Hope this helps
  • jwhomjwhom Member Posts: 16
Ok, just got another quote today. $22,684 for 2007 Pilot LX 2WD. Price includes destination ($595). Tax and license are extra. What do you think?
  • pogiru96pogiru96 Member Posts: 13
Play hard to get and tell them that you want it for $22,400 and maybe dealer would agree to sell you around $22,500.

I just bought mine 2007 PILOT LX 2WD, mud guards and hole bunch of other stuff for $22,500.

    Hope this helps
  • tinatinatinatina Member Posts: 388
According to this article, the incentive is $2,500.

  • pogiru96pogiru96 Member Posts: 13
I think there are 2 things combined in this article. One of them $500 for the financing and the other $2000 if you buying straight out. It is either or, but not both.

Can anybody verify this by calling to the dealer?
  • dbtdbt Member Posts: 298
You may want to see the discussion here, noting the 2 different incentives on the Accord:
    Accord Incentives"

"Hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question but is the $1200.00 dealer incentive separate from the $750.00 marketing support money?" "Yep.....that 1200.00 is "Dealer Cash" the 750.00 is "Finance Cash" "

This may be the same thing you are seeing with the Pilot.
  • jwhomjwhom Member Posts: 16
ok, will do. I think it also comes with mud guards and wheel locks. What else did you get? Do you think I can negotiate with them to add those items on at little or no cost?
  • jwhomjwhom Member Posts: 16
Does anyone have an idea if there is going to be more Honda incentives? Like Factory to dealer? More than $2k? Does it increases in the next few months???
  • dbtdbt Member Posts: 298
Current incentives run through July 2. New ones will come out July 3. They could go up, or down, or stay the same. Last summer, July is when the incentives went up to $4000.

you are best to sell your toyota on ebay

as for north jersey try metro
    or planet

tell them you want to pay triple net

    invoice__________
    -minus holdback__________
    -minus dealer cash________
    +plus doc________________
    +plus plates_____________
    +plus njtax

This is the dealers true cost and some will sell at or below this price.

5 of the 6 hondas I have bought/helped buy in the last three years were at or below triple net

I have gotten a quote of $22k even including dest for a 07 LX 2WD. I probably can do better but I figured I would email the dealer I bought my Ridgeline ( paid $21,600 for new RT there ) from and see if they could sell me one for this price. There are in Bristol Tn, if you are close by. Email them telling them you are offering $22k for a LX and see what they say? When we are ready to buy I'm going to see if they can do a EX 2WD for around $23k range.
  • jwhomjwhom Member Posts: 16
Sounds good. But I'm in So California. But this info will probably allow me to get them to at least 22k. Also was interested in EX. Let me know what you get. The lowest quote I got (wasn't really actively looking though) was $25,400. I thought it be lower. Either way, let me know. Thanks!
  • jwhomjwhom Member Posts: 16
What do you think? Should I wait?

I am looking for a EX 4WD and have been learning a lot from everyone here. I got a quote for a LX 2WD from Spreen Honda in Loma Linda (So. Cal.) for $21,684 including advertising and destination fees. You may want to check it out.
  • pogiru96pogiru96 Member Posts: 13
Seems like a great price, but I doubt they will sell you the car at that price. A lot of times this price is served as the enticement to get you into the dealership, but once you are there they will offer more expensive model.

How popular 2WD in California, is there a lot of them there? Because where I am at there sure not a lot of them?

WHAT DOES EVERYBODY THINK ABOUT 100K WARRANTY

While shopping for brand new Pilot I noticed that dealers highly push their 8 years 100K warranty. Does anybody know if it is worth paying for it? Or this is another hype that dealers trying to make money on.

What does this kind of warranty usually cover?

So.Cal has a lot of 2WD. My best quote for a EX 4WD is $25,841 (including destination fee) in the area.
  • pogiru96pogiru96 Member Posts: 13
That seems to be very good price, $5,700 under invoice.
  • jwhomjwhom Member Posts: 16
Carlsbad quote me $25,400 for EX 2WD just yesterday. Probably could get it down a little more.
  • tiburon41tiburon41 Member Posts: 3
Just got a quote from a dealership in South Jersey for the Pilot EX 4WD:

    2007 Honda PILOT
    Description: 4wd EX
    MSRP: $ 31,540
    Invoice: $ 28,728
    Internet Price:$ 26,133

Plus tax, tags, fees, dest., and any additional equipment that may be on a specific vehicle.

This was my first quote on this vehicle! I'm waiting to see how much better this can get. Do you think I should wait until months' end to REALLY get it down a long way, or even until July?
  • kelimaankelimaan Member Posts: 2
First off, I want to say how much I appreciate the information shared in this forum.

We purchased our '07 Pilot EXL (no NAV or RES) last night.

    MSRP: $32,540
    OTD Price: $28,265

For us a big issue came down to color. Choices were pretty slim for the EXL w/out NAV or RES. I'm satisfied with the price we paid, but I do believe there will be better deals to be had in early July if you're not hung up on color.
  • john187john187 Member Posts: 1
That's a good deal. I bought it @29,700 + plate + tax last month. Where do you get the offer ?
  • ikooikoo Member Posts: 1
kelimaan, thanks for sharing! that's a good price. Which dealer did you buy your car from?
  • kelimaankelimaan Member Posts: 2
We ended up at Goodson North. We took our best internet quote to them...and they beat it. The most painless car buying experience ever.
  • smokyblueridgesmokyblueridge Member Posts: 5
To begin with,I really appreciate the information shared here.
I have received a internet quote for EXL 4WD/NAV of $30,000.00
This is OTD and includes dest.I guess I can get it lower.
Does anyone have an idea of whether this is reasonable for Western NC?will it make any sense to wait till July?
  • cb13cb13 Member Posts: 10
For Pilot EX-4WD, is $26018 + tax title registration good price. Are better incentives expected in July :)

Also, what are the additional items that the deals charge and can be negotiated. I am getting charged 7% tax + $195 documentation + $343 registration. Is that normal?

    Thanks,
  • jwhomjwhom Member Posts: 16
So far the lowest quote I got for EX 2WD is 23,700, TTL extra, and no dealer added equipment. I made sure to ask about that. For the LX 2WD, down to 21,700 TTL extra and no dealer added equipment. What do you guys think? LX? or EX?

I got a quote for Pilot LX 2WD which include "Honda Appearence Package" (mud guard, wheel locks, door edge guards, fender well trim & pin stripe) + Life time warranty as long as you own the vehicle regardless of years or mileage for engine, transmission, drive axle system & internally lubricated parts for $23400 OTD. Do you think it's good price or should I wait until July to get more discount? Thanks.
  • tegal3tegal3 Member Posts: 13
Forgot to mention that the dealer also offer me $500 service coupon.
  • jwhomjwhom Member Posts: 16
What's the breakdown? And what state? You should probably figure out how much each portion costs, i.e. car, package, tax, license, etc.

If in CA, that would probably a good price.

    Where did you get it?
  • patankarpatankar Member Posts: 1
What area is this in? I am planning to buy the exact same model. 2WD EX-L with DVD. I am in the Houston area.
