Here is the picture you are talkng about, and afterall this might be it, its got the big headlamps, the Pilot grille, and i do like this picture ALOT. well 'till Honda releases pics of the 05 ODY this might be the closest thing to it. Enjoy!
lok888, I talked to my Honda dealer today. They told me about the EX-with entertainment lease for $259. I have the EX cloth now, and leather would be nicer. It's a great deal though with DVD. I'm paying about $450 for my lease, and $259 is a HUGE difference. I did get a quote for $33,400 for EX-L Navigation and leather steering, and $400 less for DVD instead of Navigation. I'm going to talk to the guy who leased me my car 3 years ago. I think the price is too much for a car that came out last September. Do you think he would give me a brake? I sure hope so, especially that the 05 is coming out.
If the picture that p4 posted is the true 05 Ody then it is a huge disapointment. It looks very much like the previous generation of Ford Winstar: Old and dumb. Toyota here I come.
I was hoping that the ASM would be the US 05 ody too, and even after the release of the Elysion, because from the design point of view, to stretch a van is a lot easier than totally redesign one, just like the Grand version of the DC. But after some message indicated that the big headlamp and dumb Pilot grille is the one for US and that Honda was requesting that all preview boards to remove the 05 ody's info. I'm pretty sure that the big headlamp and dumb Pilot grille is the one for US market. Because the Japanese almost always reserve the best for their JDM, and give the US and Europe market much less sophisticate one, like the dumb Pilot.
Wow, that pic may be the real deal. If not, it sure is a clever hoax. But it's starting to make more sense. It looks like Honda is trying to unify the appearance of their "light trucks" - the category that Odyssey falls under. The styling cues are definitely borrowed from the CR-V and the Pilot. And it does seem like a trend for Honda to produce larger headlamps - even the current Accord has relatively large ones.
At first glance, the pic does remind me of a ford windstar/freestar. But at second glance it seems much nicer. For one thing, the hood, seems less pronounced than in the wind/freestar. Overall, it seems like a nice blend of fresh looks and conservative styling - qualities that us Americans seem to crave. If you can imagine looking at this minivan rendition head on - I think it'll have a nice, agressive look to it.
I have to commend some of you guys - especially neighbor and bamaboy. Keep those leaks coming .
looks OK to me, but IMO in the minivan catagory, styling is of secondary improtance. Just don't go too bizarro, and bland is OK. Frankly, the Sienna is nothing special to look at, but doesn't hurt the eyes either.
The interior is significantly more important than the exterior on a van, since there really isn't much you can do with box, especially if you don't want to compromise interior room for the sake of a stylish exterior.
If you have the features, handling and live-ability that people crave, why risk it with aggressive or different styling? Aggressive, bizarro styling is what you do if you lack market share and need to take a chance to try to capture it. Honda already has market share...they need to hit a home run with engine, comfort, features, etc and just not screw up the outside too badly.
The green pic above is just about exactly what I would expect.
And if it reminds a bit of Freestar/Windstar, what's wrong with that? Those were handsome cars. They were not great sellers because, as stickguy said, styling is secondary, and Ford did not get the features, engine, handling, etc right.
Thanks to shelleymeister2 & player4 for bringing the pic to our attention.
Ive just started reading in this thread- so much activity? If anyone has the time to provide a brief synopsis of whats new and different for the next Ody, I'd much appreciate it. Also, when will it be hitting showrooms?
About that picture- I dont think its as bad as some feel it is. I prefer the current generations sleeker fascia, but its no Windstar, IMO.
late summer is the expectation (August/Sept.) to arrive in the showrooms, based on what has been rported here.
If you scroll back, there are some comprehensive lists of features, but off the top of my head, some new stuff is split rear bench, roll down side windows, variable cylinder management (engine runs on 3 cylinders under light lodad conditions), new dash layout (shifter on center stack) and guages, moonroof available, power liftgate (yuck). I'm sure there is some other stuff, much of it packaging, but that's what I recall OTTOMH.
Okay, but there better be some chrome on that front grille! The Pilot has no chrome around the grille except for the "H" logo itself. I don't know. I think they screwed up if they used the Pilot's grille instead of the '04 Ody's grille, which looks more like an Acura.
Yeah, no kidding. That dumb Pilot! Isn't that like one of the worst looking grille and interior you've ever seen? Oh, I'm, hope I didn't offend anyone:-)
Now I am mad! Get off the road 'cause I'm and angry Ody driver!
Well, that's true, but please don't give me that Honda Pilot treatment. Let's keep it conservative and keep the '04 Ody's grille and get the Honda Accord's interior treatment plus the gated shifter on the dash.
I have been reading many posts about Acura RDX here. What it has to do with this board?
Yes. It was the green Odyssey that I saw few months ago. It looks the side mirrors have turn indicators like the Acura TL. It doesn't look much different from that angle with less boxy look.
The Honda Elysion (JDM) = ASM concept. I can't believe it can fit 8 people. It is not a bad idea to badge in Acura brand.
giay1170 - Is the lease end some time in June? And I think the lease is for EX (cloth) with DVD. Of course you can get a great deal on any '04 model. I think you are better off with the '04 lease with less monthly payments and with no MSRP like the '05 model will do. Keep that money for gas or extra DVD movies. Oh! I thought 6 to 9 months is the average time for a car sales person on the job. Three year seems longer. Good luck!
It is very wise of Honda to make Ody 05 ugly.. This ugly and boxy car attract conservative, religious, boring or relatively 'mature' kind of people; these people rarely drive over the speed limit. Honda can statistically prove that Ody is very 'safe', based on the number of accidents.
The big, angular box generates tin can noise when driving on interstate highway. It is irritates and keeps driver awake at the same time, another safety feature.
With the new Ody, many people will be turned off..ahha! the maket for Elysion is opened up. They actually try to drive people to buy Elysion.
lok888. I decided I'm going to get the 04 model. The dealer I leased it from quoted me a EX-L DVD for 28,480, and another dealer quoted me $2400 less. They might match it or not. It seems that the 04 that I want is hard to come by, especially when my husband wants it black or white. I'm bored with the white since I had it for 3 years. Any other color to me would be fine. My lease does end 8/6/04, and I would have no problem getting out of it. I actually sat in a red one with leather today. It is SOOO much like the 01, except for the leather and the 04 has a more powerful engine. I just can't believe the difference on the lease price I have now $447 EX only compared to a 04 EX-L DVD for $295. This time I would purchase it so that I won't be stuck in a lease, and maybe in a year or two I can get the newer version of the Odyssey (if I like it). Thanks for all your help. I'll keep you posted.
While the Green Machine is interesting, it's not the 05' Ody. Remember the accesories that were posted on numerous web sites prior to Honda making them remove them? One of the options is "Under Body Spoiler Kits" Look at the Elyison, notice "Spoiler Kits" in the pic. Now try to imagine them on the "Green Machine" Pic above, just doesn't work on there.
Until the new Ody comes out, we can say whatever we want with regards to what it will look like.
That little green Ody pic looks like someone got creative with the current Ody on Photoshop and superimposed the CRV's facade onto it. That's why the entire hood, including grille and headlights, look exactly like the CR-V. Check out the CR-V:
I saw a much better picture of the Ody on the OdyClub forum. Someone got really creative and superimposed the '05 Acura RL's facade onto the current Ody, instead of the CR-V. It looks hot--like an Acura minivan.
So I don't think the '05 Ody will look anything like that little green picture. That pic is a joke.
True-True. All of the things that we are all saying are just guesses we dont know nothing official (for real), so lets just i'd say keep guessing until Honda releases official information about the 2005 Odyssey.
I don't think the picture of the green van is the 05. The side is identical to the 04. The green van would be more of a cosmetic change for the 04 instead of a total redesign which the 05 is due. I don't think the green van would give current workers a great dislike if it is the 05.
I agree 100%! That pic is just someone getting creative with Photoshop. At this point anything is possible, but that green image is NOT the '05 Ody. Besides, like neighbor said, the sides of the vehicle are identical to the current Ody.
to the one they saw in the factory. and that's why many of them hate it. Big headlights + Pilot front =very close to US 05 ody EEEWWWWWWWWW, Yackeeeee...........
Two items can look very much like each other yet one can look good and the other not as much. Small details can make a big difference. Ever seen twins wher one is "the pretty one" even though they look almost alike.
There is hope for the new Odyssey even if it looks like (but not identical to) the green pic.
Is that mean you can get a better deal from another dealer for an '04 Odyssey EX-L with DVD for $26K? Then it sounds like a great deal. I bought my '00 EX for MSRP of $26K and waited four months back. I traded it for an '04 Sienna few months ago.
I am not interested in lease simple I drive quite some miles each year and I intended to keep the car few years longer. It is because the '04 model will be replaced with an all-new Odyssey this fall. I bet you won't see any deal for '05 Odyssey for the first year. You may see some reliefs in second year.
Come back and tell us more about your buying experience in other Odyssey discussion forum. But feel free to join us here about the '05 Odyssey. :-D
June is almost here and the new 05 ody is supposed to go on sale what aug? sept? Why is Honda keeping a such tight lid on the 05 model? Whats the big deal?
That's Honda's way!! The most recent Accord wasn't "shown" until a couple of weeks before release. I recall reading on forums that nobody knew the price of the TSX until it was rolling off the trucks at the dealerships.
back again guys... with some final news on the new ody!
Honda will be doing press confrence in July '04 to debut it's all-new Odyssey (U.S. Model) All the info will be available online at that time. Don't expect anything to be released in N.A. anytime before - because it can affect it's current '04 Model sales.
The reason they didin't release anything in the NY AutoShow because the 2004 Odyssey is due to last it's full year unlike what Toyota did with it's Sienna with early model year debut. The current odyssey has lost it's share to the new Sienna but Sales numbers are still higher than the other competition which includes the new Quest from Nissan, the restyled Mazda MPV and Kia Sedona.
How could releasing any information about the '05 Ody prior to July affect sales of the '04 model any more than what is already known? How stupid does Honda think the car buying public is? At this point, only a small percentage of shoppers in the market for a new minivan would be unaware that the current model is on its way to extinction. Are there that may clueless Odyssey buyers out there?
Here's what a guy told me about the upcoming Odyssey, he has alerady seen the 2005 Odyssey (I cant say who told me this) here's his opinion on the 2005 Odyssey.
I'm a dealer from PA and was recently at a meeting where we were given a sneak peek some new models including the new US version Odyssey
I won't PO my Honda guys by divulging too much, but lets just say that this Japenese model (Elysion) does not share much in common with the Odyssey which we will see here.
But what I can tell you is that the US model will totally destroy its competitors...its really that good. It has supposedly scored amazingly high in tests against anything else in the market.
The dealer body was really impressed with what we saw. Features were outstanding...interior was unbelievable...and the exterior looks were damn nice.
Desert Rock Mist Silver Pearl Metallic w/ Gray and Gray and Black on Touring Ocean Mist w/ Gray and Gray and Black on Touring Slate Green metallic w/ Olive or Gray
Touring It's a new model that extends beyond the typical top of the line "EX" designation for Honda. It sounds like it's their answer to the $38000 Sienna, though I'd be really surprised if it got anywhere near that price.
Ocean Mist sounds nice, and Honda finally launched a trim higher than the EX designation. I wonder if they'll use the Touring designation on other models too. Picture a CR-V Touring with leather, panorama roof and body colored cladding!
A little bird whispered the following in my ear not too long ago ;-)
* Motor is uprated to 250HP, will use VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) * Moonroof (only on EX-L+) * Standard VSA (Vehicle Stablity Assist) * Auto door locks (lock above 10MPH). * 3-Zone climate control. * DVD system & voice activated navigation system available together. * 360W 7-speaker Stereo System with subwoofer and 6-disc CD Changer. * DVD screen enlarged from 7" to 9" * Drive-By-Wire (Electronic Throtlle). * IP shifter. (instrument panel mounted) * New touring model. * Adjustable pedals and front & rear parking assistance on touring model. * Convex "conversation" mirror. * Power liftgate. * 60/40 Split 3rd row seat. * 17(!) cup holders. * Available Plus-1 seating on the 2nd row. (3-passenger 2nd Row) * No head rest removal needed to fold 3rd Row. * Body rigidity improved by 20%. * Radio antenna now inside the glass. * Side curtain airbags on all models. * Power windows on rear sliding doors
That is not the Pilot front. Look at the Pilot and CR-V. That green pic is the Honda CR-V FRONT---the ENTIRE FRONT, including big headlights and grille.
Unfortunaly the little bird did not tell me anything about if it was gonna be quieter, but im sure it will because whenever a car maker redisigns any of their models the improve everything from engine to seats so hopefully the 05 will be quieter!!.

As you all can see it hasthe Pilot grille, and the big Headlamps as the guy that works at the plant said, so this might be it!

That's a mighty big fast moving object!
I just can't believe they would do a "CRV" Acura and not an "Odyssey" Acura!
The Pilot has no chrome around the grille except for the "H" logo itself.
I don't know. I think they screwed up if they used the Pilot's grille instead of the '04 Ody's grille, which looks more like an Acura.
Just like most people hate the Quest's looks, but some people actually like it, like our host Steve:-)
It looks a lot boxier than the '04.
I thought they were trying to get rid of that "box on wheels" image?
"No! It can't be. It's impossible!"

Oh, I'm sorry, I don't know where that came from:-)
