05 Honda Odyssey is supposed to have roll-down second row windows. From that P-shopped picture and compare it with the new Sienna (which has roll-down windows), you will see that impossibility. The rear half of the design was clearly ripped from current 04 Odyssey. The front was a mix of CR-V and Pilot.

It is made small so that it is hard to tell. It also has very little reflection because it is difficult to "fake" the reflection from surroundings.

    Anyway, just MHO.

You're right. I understand you're just telling us what your friends told you.
It could be the new Ody. Did they get to see the interiors?
Did you ask them about the interior? Like woodtrim? Gated shifter? Looks like the Accord?
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
Oh, I agree 100%. I think that picture looks great. I think it looks better than both the '04 Sienna and '04 Ody.
But is it "too good to be true"? You know how that saying goes!
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
I also noticed the 2nd row window compared to the Sienna.
Then again, how do we really know the '05 Ody has row-down windows on the 2nd row?
But yeah, I still think it's photoshopped, although I would not mind if it were the '05 Ody, except for the grille. The grille needs some serious chrome like the Elysion or JDM Ody. I don't like the CR-V or Pilot grille at all.

This was a quote from just another person on the OdyClub regarding the green Ody:

"I drive on I-65 between Nashville, TN and B'Ham, AL alot. I have seen several disguised "05"Odysseys driving together on the Interstate. They looked nothing like this. Yes, I could tell even through the disguises. To alter them to look the way they did compared to that pic would mean adding a brick wall to the front! You can tell anyway that the pic name is "2nd gen". The 05 will be 3rd gen in the U.S. D.M. And, the pic is hosted at some german site, AND the windshield wipers are on the wrong side, AND the plate on the front says another Honda model name!!!! Putting pictures of something like this up and giving Honda the disrespect of saying this piece of crap Fonda Freestardyssey is the 05 Odyssey is gonna send people straight to the Toyota and Chrysler dealers!!! I repeat this is NOT the 2005 Honda Odyssey! Thank you."

The photo may be manufactured. Whoever made the photo probably saw a drawing board photo themselves. They assembled it the best they could. The worker I showed it to said that was it. That probably means it has the general appearance to what he saw. I did not interrogate him. He just took a quick glance at the photo. I'm sure details in the photo may be off some but the new van will have the general appearance of it. The side may not have the groove in it, but even without, a side is a side. Put the toyota side on the picture and the guy would probably still say that was the 05 odyssey. (quick glance-bad small picture)
One worker said the grille definitely looked like the Pilot. Huge headlights.
The two I have talked to both saw the inside.
    1. Shifter in dash.
    2. Roll down middle windows
    3. Split 3rd row seats.

They are not inside reporters getting every detail. These are just obvious things they saw. One person said the van (appeared) bigger.

I haven't pre-ordered any cars before. But I ordered mine with particular color choice and desired equipments when the cars were official release to the public for sale. So this seems like you have a propriety to choice the color and equipments. The dealer will sent the request to the factory like the way I ordered my Sienna LE with package #7?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,494
There really isn't anything to factory order with a Honda, since there aren't options per se. Really all you are doing is picking a model trim level and color.

Usually putting your name on the pre-order list just gets you first dibs, but you have the choice to wait for a unit that is what you want. Really you just lock in the price (asusming that they might initially go for MSRP +), and cut out the wait time (if there is one).

I hope this interior is as nice as I expect (based on the current Accord), and that supply isn't too tight. I'm pretty sure my wife will want to get one, hopefully by Christmas.

I will be waiting and see. Just curious what's JDM getting? Redesigned LaGreat? Or it just dropped out the auto line-up and replaced by Elysion?
  • m4mulveym4mulvey Member Posts: 11
I certainly hope the green picture is NOT the '05 - it is BORING! It looks like something Mazda or one of the other "also-rans" might have dreamed up. The current Ody has distinctive styling (I know some people don't like it but at least it is not an overgrown jellybean or other contrived shape a'la Nissan). I'm sure Honda can do a lot better than that.

    I guess we'll soon know...
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
    Not soon enough:-)
    No thanks to Honda!

Green one is almost as 2004 model. Just headlights and slight shape change in grill as mentioned before. From one side I think it could not be next generation Ody because of so conservative look and small amount of changes. But from another side it could be it, because exterior changes in Accord 2003 and 2004 are not so drastic as Between Maxima 2003 and Maxima 2004 for example... But I really think that VCM and seating/interior/configuration features will be key features in Ody 05 sales.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
the interior is where Honda put all their resources if the exterior is only mildly changed.

What about this version. I know it is not the most reliable source, but the interior seems to have many of the mentioned upgrades. Dash shifter, split third seat, upgraded materials etc.
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
That is the new JDM Elysion, a narrower 8-passenger minivan.
Go to google.com and search "Honda Elysion". You will find a lot of the info. It is NOT our Odyssey to come. However, you may get a feel of the features that could go into our Odyssey, though.
  • rctennis3811rctennis3811 Member Posts: 1,031
The green "05" Odyssey also looks like a photoshopped 04 Odyssey to me. The side of the car looks exactly the same and the only exterior difference is the front.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
The green thing is definitely photoshopped.
However, since the Ody is so popular, I don't think Honda will take a risk and totally change it's looks. Thus, there will be changes, just not drastic. I can see Honda taking the Ody, keeping most of it the same, but make it look even more balanced and pretty.

We've been through this, but the JAPANESE Odyssey is different from ours...

Our Odyssey is called the "LaGreat" in Japan.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
we will not get the Elysion here, although a few of us on this board including myself think the Elysion could be stuffed with the TL's engine and make an excellent Acura 6-7 seater minivan.
  • ladamsladams Member Posts: 2
I work at the Canadian assembly plant in Ontario, Canada. I have sat in the new odyssey. There are several on site.

Nice looking van whether it's the one for North America or not
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
c'mon..throw us a bone. What does it look like, interior/exterior????
  • rcf8000rcf8000 Member Posts: 619
Too bad we don't get the Japanese Odyssey here. It's gorgeous. It's really a station wagon, though, at 61 inches high.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
the JDM Odyssey would make a great Acura sportvan.
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
BTW..if you do throw us a bone...change your online name. "ladams" might be easy to trace for Honda Alliston.
  • rctennis3811rctennis3811 Member Posts: 1,031
Then if you know what the new Odyssey looks and feels like, why are you giving us the link to the JDM Odyssey which is not the one the US is getting???
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
Tru, i agree with u on that, if u do kno how the 05 ODY is, why r u giving us the link to the Japanese odyssey?????hmmm
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
that's the Acura edition we've all been wanting?
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
Wouldn't it be nice if Honda was releasing 2 Odysseys. The regular and the XL. Kinda like Chrysler has two minivans, and GM has Yukon and Yukon XL. It sure would be nice to have two, after all they have 4 SUV's (if you include Acura).

Of course it won't happen, but it would be nice.
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
Just like the way they sell US Accord at Honda, and European/JDM Accord under Acura badge, I believe Acura could sell the JDM Odyssey at Acura in near future. After all, it is a handsome van with very nice interior. Besides, Honda/Acura need more light trucks to boost their total sales. Civic and Accord sales numbers are dropping.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
where's your source that's saying that Civic and Accord sales are dropping?

My dealer says ordering a Honda fromthe factory is not worthwhile since they do not have the myriad combinations of optional features that other brands do. Once you pick model (EX versus EXL, etc) and color there are only a couple of possible other choices to make...so when I tellhim what I want, he hunts through cars coming into port and grabs one that matches my choices.

He may try to convince me to take one that is almost exactly what I want and then it will be up to me to wait or not.

I test drove a 2004 Toyota Sienna and really liked the tight turning circle. Is there any info about the next Odyssey's turning circle? In addition, is there really going to be an 8-seater version of the Odyssey? I hope it works better than the armless Sienna. I am like most people, I think, waiting to see if the new Ody will trump the Sienna. I hope it isn't any fatter (wider). I also hope they put LATCH in the third row. Can't wait for the new ODY.

there's supposed to be plus one seating, which is an 8-seating combination.
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
jchan2, I should rephrase it as
"Honda's total sales dropped by 4% in April compared with last year." Among all, Accord sales dropped 5.8%. Civic sales actually INCREASED 5.6%. For details,
    http://www.hondanews.com/CatID1000?mid=2004050352054&mime=asc

    My mistake on Civic.
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
Turning circle? Sienna's 36.8ft is hard to beat, Current Odyssey's 37.7 isn't bad either. I could take U-turn with ease on most tight two-lane intersections. That is what matters. I don't expect the new ODY to have worse than 37.7ft turning circle unless there is new trick at the front axisle.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Here's an interesting question to ponder: Why are Accord sales dropping? There's been highly favorable reviews, the Accord is CR's top rated 4 cylinder family sedan and there's a special lease deal on it. Is it because the Camry has higher incentives, more than just an attractive lease deal?

I found this link ... a nice teaser with pics.

Pics are of the Honda ASM concept introduced at Tokyo. We'll see how close this matches the real van.
  • rctennis3811rctennis3811 Member Posts: 1,031
Yea, that's the ASM concept which became the Honda Elysion in Japan - the van that WON'T be our next Odyssey.
  • cericceric Member Posts: 1,092
Jchan2, it does not matter whether Camry has incentive or not. Last time I heard, Toyota is still one of the most profitable companies in the world. If you want my opinion on why Accord sales is down? I would put it on the look. Personally, I think Camry has a better look than Accord. Which is exactly the opposite of the last models.
  • samnoesamnoe Member Posts: 731
If the new Odyssey will look similar to the Accord, then they will have slow sales for the Odyssey, too.

A friend of mine recently visited in Israel (?) and he told me that the Honda Accord over there is much nicer than the US version, and have beautiful rounded tail lamps (Similar to the Mazda6). Seems that Honda reserved that design for the next refreshing cycle.

I really hope the new Odyssey will be nice outside. Nothing like the Quest, and even not representing the new Sienna. I don't mind boring, but not extreme. I can't look at the rear-end of the Accord. It's simple awful.
  • rctennis3811rctennis3811 Member Posts: 1,031
Yup, Toyota Motor Corporation is one of the most profitable companies in the world, and the MOST PROFITABLE car company in the world, even though they are extremely bland.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Personally, I prefer the Accord look to the Camry.
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
clearing throat....Is this a Toyota / Accord thread or 2005 Odyssey thread? Not quite sure....

Now back to regularily scheduled programming...
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,494
wouldn't bother me if they came back with the same basic style, maybe tweak the taillights a bit, and do a nose job, just to distinguish it from the old model. The imfamous green van doesn't really look bad, certainly not enough to keep anyone from buying.

Anyway, given the reputation of the Ody, and the built in loyalty to Honda, they might not be able to make it ugly enough to not sell well. THe Sienna ain't no raving beauty itself.

I think the Quest doesn't sell better because of the interior, not the exterior, although that is a matter of personal taste certainly.

Looks like this thread will be just spinning its wheels until either the Odyssey gets officially launched with full press or we get a spy picture from test Ody's on public roads in Alabama. We're just rehashing the same old info.

    Thoughts?
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
'04 Ody looks better on outside overall, but Sienna looks better on inside.

'04 Camry looks better on outside, but Accord looks better on inside.

Can't we get something that has the best inside and outside looks?
