lok888. I got a quote from my current dealer for $27000 and $26,080 from another dealer for the 04. My current dealer has the black one in stock and the other, doesn't. I'm supposed to meet with my salesman from 3 years ago this week. Now my husband is freaking out that I want the 04 model. He is asking me why would I want a 04 that is going to be phased out and came out last September, and looks exactly like the 01? I have no idea how much the 05 would be, but I think it's deal, right? I see messages that the 05 is coming out in 42 days, July 3? I really hate what Honda is doing to the people who anxiously are waiting on this new vehicle. It's not fair! I guess I'll have to make the decision very soon for the 04 or 05. I really would like to get into an new Odyssey soon.

42 days till Honda debuts the 2005 Odyssey.
  • shellymeister2shellymeister2 Member Posts: 115
The debut is just that.... A DEBUT. You will NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE HOME A NEW '05 Ody until at least Labor Day. So we are way more than 40 odd days away.
A debut means that the new Ody will be unveiled and that official info will be officially released.
By my reckoning we are about 100 days away from actually driving one.
  • shellymeister2shellymeister2 Member Posts: 115
That I mentioned a few days ago that restarted this whole debate about wether it is the new Ody or not.
Any one willing to wager against me that it is NOT the new Ody?
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
Thats what we're all waiting for, the official pics and spec of the 05 ODY!!
  • pottebaumpottebaum Member Posts: 15
I don't know if I can see the Ody getting much better. I mean, you can only make a minivan look so good.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
We give that minivan to Lexus or Acura, and I'll bet you they'll find a way to make it look damn good!

For example, why not get the Lexus LX 470, stretch it to 205 inches long, add dual power sliding doors and power liftgate, add 2nd and 3rd row Magic seats, and you got yourself a cool looking Lexus LUM--that's Luxury Utility Minivan or Lexus MX 470!

Well, alright, okay, now I'm really drifting off to Lola land:-)
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
The little bird said the new Ody is quieter than the '04, but not as quiet as the '04 Sienna.
This makes sense because the new Accord is quieter than the last Accord, but still not as quiet as the Camry.
Let's face it, Acura/Honda will NEVER be as quiet as Lexus/Toyota.
But as long as it is quieter than the current Ody and has better equipments and better price than the Sienna, we'll just have to find it in our little hearts to forgive Honda.
  • dako_tiandako_tian Member Posts: 298
The Hondas are every bit as quiet as the Toyotas,....

...when they are turned off and sitting in the garage!

    ;-)
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
You may just have a point there:-)

Apparently we just can't have it both ways. That's just life.
But I'll take better instrument panel, better NAV, and lower price over quieter and smoother ride.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840

But I'll take better instrument panel, better NAV, and lower price over slightly quieter and smoother ride.
Okay, the current Ody is 2 dBA louder than the Sienna according to C&D's latest issue. But if the new Ody can match the T&C @ 69dBA, then that's pretty good. You never know though. C&D might have the Ody @67dBA and Sienna @68dBA, and then change it later:-)

I mean come on. What's more important? A good looking front grille or quieter, smoother ride? Why, of course, it's the grille. I rest my case!
  • ac00lraac00lra Member Posts: 69
    Ouch! That hurts! :-)

That's like saying Toyotas handle great, if you drive it in a straight line only. :-)
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
    And yet another good point.

Hey, wait just a minute here. Was dako_tian saying that Hondas are loud except for when they are parked inside the garage?
Or was he just saying Hondas aren't that much louder than Toyotas especially when they're parked inside the garage--as a joke?
    Man, I feel slow!
  • dako_tiandako_tian Member Posts: 298
(but then I always know what I meant to say!). A Honda parked inside a garage will be every bit as quiet as the Toyota parked next to it.

Which reminds me of a famous philosophical question (slightly mangled version): If a man speaks in the forest and no woman is there to hear him, is he still wrong?

The little bird came today and told the colors of the 2005 Odyssey, 4 new colors Slate Green, Ocean Mist, Silver Peaarl, and desert rock. Olive interior makes and appearance, Navi and Res available together, and the Touring Edition available in EX-L and EX-L w/ Navi and RES
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
ok, what exactly is in the Touring Package? Is it kind of like the Limited Package on XLE Siennas?
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
Yes jchan2, it is kinda like the Sienna XLE Limited, but on the odyssey it should be Odyssey EX Touring....? The Touring model should compete head to head with the $38K Sienna XLE Limited, though ill doubt that Honda will ever go that high on pricing the ODY Touring. But from what ive heard it is a #1 competitor with the XLE-L but way cheaper!
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
Can that little bird use a digital camera and supply some images? ; )
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,495
I hope the EX-L will have the moonroof without having to get the touring package and a bunch of other crap. If the equipment levels are consistant with the current model, and they add the roof, and hold pricing comparable to the '04, my wife probably just found her next car.

Compitition is grand. Maybe this will force Toyota to add a power drivers seat to the LE, and actually produce some moonroof LEs for the NE.

I learned that the '05 Pliot will have sunroof on EX-L model. I hope the sunroof will be standard on '05 Odyssey EX or above model. So some people don't have to buy the leathers seats, navigation system or DVD RES. It has been years for Honda to put sunroof their EX trimmed vehicles.
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
Interesting that the Canadian Sienna LE has the power driver seat standard.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
We are always getting less good stuffs or don't even exist in the states.
  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
Interesting comment. The way I see it, the car companies match options and models to what the market will bear. The Sienna XLE Limited is not even an option in Canada. Why? Out the door pricing would be $65,000 + which means they would move less than 1,000 a year. On the other hand, all Honda Odyssey models and trim levels are consistent between US and Canada. It demonstrates that Honda builds vehicles that have value and are not priced out of the reach of normal 2.5 kid families. If the next EX has the standard features that are rumoured and price points stay similar to current, it will just kill the sales of the Sienna LE. As an example, The EX with 2 power sliding doors standard vs. the 1 on the LE is a big selling point. The second power is not even an option in the LE. You have to sign up another $7,000 for the XLE.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
It perhaps the Toyota Sienna is designed and built for North American markets, particular for the states. About 8-10% of the XLE Limited are being built these days, 120K units were built last year = 9600 to 12000 XLE Limited on the roads. A fully loaded with AWD, HO package, DVD RES and navigation system could cost USD$42,000.

I agree the '05 Odyssey EX will hurt the sale of the Sienna LE. My Sienna LE has one power sliding door and no power driver seat like I used to have on my '00 Odyssey.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,495
Honda does a better job of matching the options/trim levels to the price points. Toyota has a tendency to make you spend a fortune to get one item, and I'm sure they do it on purpose.

In this case, my wife insists on a power drivers seat. On the Sienna, that means an XLE for 3K plus extra, with none of the difference anything I really want.

That's why I think the Ody will force TOyota to at least offer a power/convenience package, taking a few things from the XLE and adding them to the LE.

force them to create a new trim line for the Sienna, sort of like a Special Value Package.
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
I hope Honda does NOT make the sunroof standard on any models. They should make it an option on EX models like leather. Sunroofs take away too much headroom, and not everybody wants them.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,495
I don't think the loss of headroom will be an issue on a van this size. On a low slung car maybe, but unless you are in the NBA, shouldn't be an issue.

Now, if you just don't want one, that is a different story, but the Honda tradition is for the EX model to come standard with the roof. From what has been surmissed here, it sounds like the roof will be on the EX-L only, so you can choose between roof and leather.

The picture of the green van has been identified. The green van is the 05. I was told this without hesitation. They looked at the picture and said "yep, that's it". He used the word sleek to describe it. He liked it. Sides the same but front and back different. Said lot of options. Said gas mileage should beat Toyota and Nissan. This was from a different person than the one I first talked to.

Plant closes for the week leading up to July 4. When they start back, they will work 4 hours on the 04 and 4 hours on the 05. 8-11-04 will start the 05 all the time. He was told to expect to work on Sat.
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
Well if it is the 2005 Honda Odyssey, then i like it i dont love it but i like it, i have to look at the rear and make my final desicion. When Toyota released pictures of the 2004 Toyota Sienna i didnt like it because the fron looked horrible the pictures was a Sienna XLE in Gold i was kinda blurry and i did not like it, and now that the picture of the 05 ODY is official i like it and might as well buy one!!
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
Thanks for the updates. I agree the gas mileage issue because of the VCM engine. So someone should get one by late July or early August.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
No. If no woman is around him, then he's always right:-)
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
    I wouldn't say it's "official" just yet.
How creative is Honda taking the old Ody and old CR-V, merge them, and call it "totally redesigned"?
No way. There may be similarities, but not the same.
Doesn't it seem suspicious to get a picture like that? Where's the background? Wouldn't it be easier for someone to just take a picture with a digital camera?

With that being said, I don't think that green picture is bad looking.
And the main concern will still be the interior.
  • andrewtran71andrewtran71 Member Posts: 840
Did they feel uncomfortable giving you all these info since they are sworn to secrecy?
Aren't they affraid of getting fired?
Did bamaboy get fired or did they just give him a warning?
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
    Priorities for me.

3 accross seating in the middle row.

good gas mileage (if VCM improves mileage by the 20% that DC claims for the hemi, then hwy mileage should push 30)

Reasonably priced and available. (hopefully the improved Sienna will help in this area)

Not too concerned about safety, because I know that will be good, nor am I concerned about handling because I know it will be "minivan like" but secure enough.

Hi all! It looks like I'm going to wait for the '05 model instead of the '04 Odyssey. If I buy an '04 now, I might regret buying it when the '05 style comes out. By the way, does anyone know when I can go to my dealer and order one? Are those the only colors, and not black? So, I'll have to pay more for the '05 EX-L-RES than the '04 with same, it's ok. The new model is different and improved, and that's going to be exciting. I can extend my lease and register my existing car for another year (even though I'll use it for another month or two), then hello new Odyssey! Is it true it will be available to drive off the lot by September? That would mean 1 month more of my '01 Odyssey, and I can deal with that.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
andrewtran71 - Don't be upset! We will tell in days. It may look different when we actually see it. Sometime the shape and color may look different from picture. The picture is so tiny and we can't enlarge it. No one want to gamble with their jobs especially with a signed confidential agreement, according to bambaboy.

You can pre-order your 05 Odyssey,

    Here's the link:

  • dannodanno Member Posts: 114
Call your dealer as preorders vary by dealer motivation levels. Black is not discontinued, these new colours are adds. You will definitely pay more for the '05 vs the '04. If you are 1st on the dealer preorder list, September drive off the lot is realistic.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I assume there is no pricing, color and option information at this moment. How dealer or Honda know what you want by leaving the deposit and putting your name on the list? How this thing works? Someone must show you what's the cost and what's come with then you can make a decision to buy or not. Is it guarantee that you will have the color of choice and desired equipments? Or you will have the priority to pick what you like? Sorry, I don't buy car in this way.
  • neighborneighbor Member Posts: 10
I know several workers. None have ever expressed they were sworn to secrecy. They may have signed something when they were first hired but who is going to pay attention to that. Most of the people I know are just plain old line workers. Surely Honda knows out of the 2000+-employees someone will say something. Maybe the high up employees are sworn to secrecy when the van is in design stage. At this late stage in the game the competition can't do much to change or improve their vehicle. I don't think Honda cares very much if information is leaking out at this stage in time. It just builds excitement.

As for the picture. He said that was it. Take him at his word or not. Does not matter to me.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I actually liked it. Looked more aggresive than either the Quest or Sienna. Now, we'll have to wait for how the back end looks.
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
    Jchan2, I agree with you 100%!!
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I hope the interior looks nice. Do we have any color swatches for the Odyssey yet? I want to see how the 05 would look in Ocean Mist.
  • player4player4 Member Posts: 362
A big picture of the 2005 Honda Odyssey in Black, with 17" rims, also the interior in Gray with wood and NAVI, i also want to see the rear end of the 05 ODY!!!! I dont care what color it is!

Interesting that the 2005 has been under our noses for 8 months without us realizing it.
Also, interesting that this picture is hosted by a European website. Beyond the reach of Honda's legal department?
  • gjay1170gjay1170 Member Posts: 67
How do you know if this IS the '05 Odyssey? Is it off the Japansese website? Also, is it bigger than the 99-04 models? It looks smaller in this picture. I hope it's worth waiting for. My dealer said I can order it now, if I want. I might do it in a couple weeks. It's too bad nobody has pictures of the interior.
  • ecarmackecarmack Member Posts: 161
If that is it, I'm surprised Honda still didn't hide the door tracks. Not a big deal for me, but it always seems to be pointed out. Still looks like a photo shop to me, with a different front and the crease on the side removed.
  • fbearfbear Member Posts: 117
Dealers do not have specs to write a detailed order. My local dealer just wrote order as "2005 Odyssey at MSRP". I paid a $500 deposit which is fully refundable if I change my mind.

So long as you trust that the deposit is indeeed refundable (which I do), it seems like the way to go to me. As soon as details are out, you sit down to formalize the order and you are at the top of the list...and if the Ody is a disappointment, you just take the refund.
