I'm looking at a lease on a 2015 GL450 and it appears that a number of people were getting large discounts in December ($6-8K off MSRP). Has anyone seen discounts like this in January? Any additional information on dealer incentives/discounts? Does MB have a loyalty discount? I'm currently leasing an Audi that ends in March.

I've been offered a $3,500 discount off a $78K MSRP with a 0.0016 MF and 61% residual on 36 months/10k. This is without any negotiation. I know the money factor is inflated and will obviously work to get that reduced...however the big question is what to shoot for on a discount off of MSRP! Any info would be appreciated!

Base MF is .00130, but your residual is correct..

The nationally advertised leases only assume a discount of $1625 off of MSRP. We don't have any information on actual sale prices, however.

I'm working on a lease for the GL450 and wondering if it makes sense to wait and have one built or just take one off the lot. Do you think the residual and money factor rates will get better or worse in the next 2-3 months. I'd hate to order a car and then lease it with significantly worse MF and RV. Do these rates typically get better as we get into March or worse? Given the 2015 has the TT V6 and not the V8, I wonder if it will sell less than last year and force MB to still offer aggresive rates for the next several months. Any help/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hard to predict what will happen with the lease numbers over the next few months. The GL is not a big seller, regardless of engine type. I don't see MB having to aggressively market it .. the clientele is not that price-sensitive.

Yeah...I spoke with the dealer and he doesnt think the rates will move much. A lot of it depends on how quickly these new 2015s with the V6 TT sell. Hopefully, its slower than expected. Thanks for the help.

    thaud01,

There are thoughts out in the MB community that people may not be happy with the V6 in the GL 450. There is a lag acceleration from the stop position from the V8 in prior models that appears to be worse in the V6 models. I believe this may affect sales in the GL 450. The GL 350 should remain about the same and one may see more sales of the GL 550 due to it having a V8. If you could wait this may be better for you to see further feedback on the V6 engine. This is my point of view, but I unfortunately cannot predict the future.

Just to share I got offered 5k ~ 6k off sticker in NY. There are a lot of dealers and a few of them are willing to be competitive. This is without fleet, and / or other discounts. Might have to pick another car to save a few $$ but this could be a very good deal considering the high residual.

I am in the midst of attempting to negotiate a lease on a 2015 GL450 and am having trouble getting anything close to the lease terms that are being talked about here. I have been given tax credits that get my tax payment down from 6.25% to 1.5% (applies to full MSRP of the car in Texas); however, the dealer is using a money factor of 0.00225 and a residual of 61% for a 36 month / 10k mile per year lease. Additionally they are only reducing the sale price of the car to $72k from $75k. The residual seems fine but the money factor is high and the discount from MSRP seems way too low. They are telling me they have done everything they possibly can and this is the best they can do. Any advice?

The base MF for the GL450 is .00130. I confirm the 36/10 residual of 61%.

Perhaps it's time to reach out to a new MB dealer?

How do I prove that to them? They insist that the money factor comes directly from MBFS and it is 0.00225. They said to get 0.0013 they have to go outside of MBFS and then it will result in a much lower residual that would cause payment to be higher than what they are offering.

Are you sure they are quoting for a GL450? All the other GL models use the standard MF.

Yes. Very frustrating. One last question: does Mercedes still apply multiple security deposits in order to reduce the money factor on leases?

Okay, so if they stick to their guns on the 0.00225 money factor, then that would be considered standard and I should be able to buy it down with MSDs, correct? They told me I cannot.
  • mlevinemlevine Member Posts: 591
    scotts11,
I had a local dealer 3 years ago inflate the money factor. The finance person said the money factor that I told her to use was incorrect and she wanted to use the standard money factor. I said thanks, but no thanks. General manager called 15 minutes later and the money factor all of a sudden dropped, but was still too high. I went to a different dealer and was able to get the vehicle I wanted without any mark up of the money factor and a better discount. Difference in payment was about $150.00 a month on the lease. Go find another dealer as the current one is ripping you off.

New to this forum, hope I am posting in the right place.

We are looking at a 2015 GL550 $5K off sticker. Dealer says current money factor is 0.0025 with residual of 53% for 36/12K. From reading through this forum those numbers seem like a poor deal. Does anyone have the latest money factor and residual that should be possible? Thank You.

    .00130 MF and 60% residual.

You sure they aren't quoting a 42 month lease?

Either way, they are really raking you on the money factor.

Thank you for the quick response. I thought the deal didn't seem right. I understand there will be new numbers out next week for Feb so I'll wait to see what they are, perhaps you could post when they are available. The car won't be delivered to the dealer until around 2/20 so we have sometime to make a decision. At 0.0013 and 60% the lease is much more attractive.

I don't think the GL550 has a 60% RV, when I was leasing it last year, it had an RV of 55%.

The lease numbers can change any month; MB may very well have increased the RV to make it more attractive to lease.

Yes, my numbers come from MBFS .. dealer is allowed to mark up the MF for more profit.

I don't think many GL550 customers are price sensitive...

So the MF on the 2015 GL550 went up from 0.00130 on Jan 31st to (.00180-.00220) on Feb 1st? Also, why is there a range. And the residual dropped that much (from 60%) also?

I would be interested to know the MF and residual on a 2015 and a 2014 GL550. I'm not sure what the minimum miles are - but for the min and then say the next 2 increments up.

    Thanks!

We don't know the actual standard MF from Mercedes, but we think it's in that range quoted.

MF for both 2014 and 2015 GL550 is standard.

    2014 residual - 45% for 36/15

    2015 residual - 53% for 36/15

    Deduct 2% for 12K, 3% for 10K and 4% for 7.5K

Interested in comments/feedback on the following lease deal. The quoted MF & residual does not seem aligned with whats been posted on this board.

2015 GL450 (premium 1 pkge, trailer hitch, lane tracking pkge, etc) and quoted price, which includes prepaid mtc for 36 month lease with 15k miles:

    $76,295 msrp
    $70,206 selling price
    $1,325 prepaid maintenance
    $15,500 trade value
    $14,000 payoff (est)
    $188 registration fees
    $134 sales tax upfront
    $499 dealer fee
    $1,095 lease fee
    $1,505 cash due at delivery

Money factor is 3.672%, residual is 58%.

Selling price above includes the USAA fleet discount ($2,000) plus the dealer discount of approximately $4,089. Comes out to monthly pymt $946 (all in).

Is this a good deal? Thanks in advance.

What is the net cap cost? Using the numbers as given, I get a pre-tax payment of $892.66/mo, so your quote of $946 may be OK, depending on the tax rate where you live.

I'm in CT and tax rate is 6% so the pre-tax number of 892.66 +tax would come out to $946.22.

Wondering if this a solid lease deal for this vehicle or should I continue shopping around for something better?

    Thx

I don't think I'm the right person to ask ... never been in the market for a luxury German SUV.

I don't think the X5 or the Q7 will lease any better, frankly.

    ctdan,

What is the $15,500 trade value and $14,000 payoff? I am assuming $1500 applied to the cap cost. The dealer fee(no way to get around this) and extra $300 lease fee are all profit. Need to find out what the $1,505 breakdown is, suspect 1st month, motor vehicle fee, and other little fees. How I analyze a lease is to find out the invoice of this vehicle. Take the USAA discount off this number and also $1500 from your trade. Work your way up from this number when negotiating. You will need to add prepaid maintenance, registration fee, sales tax, dealer fee, and lease fee. I would give very little down at delivery.
  • ctdanctdan Member Posts: 38
I'm trading in a 2011 Volvo and they are giving me $15,500 for trade-in and payoff is $14k. The intent was to put zero down but dealer is telling me even with zero up front i still would need to come up with roughly $3k out of pocket at signing for the fees you mentioned. That ~$3k is offset by the surplus from the trade-in so only $1505 due at signing.

My concern is that the MF of 3.672 (equivalent to 0.00153 if my calculations are correct) and residual of 58% are different then what I thought I saw on this board and want to make sure that I am getting a solid deal from this dealership. Are those numbers MF/Residual accurate for a 2015 Gl450?

    ctdan,

Residual is set by MB financial. The money is being increased for extra profit. Adding your up front fees you mentioned, is about $3200. Using the $1500 surplus your about $1700. You can look up invoice pricing on this site and deduct USAA discount. Compare this number to the selling price. Look at MRSP only as a number to calculate the residual. By the way, I would push for money factor of 0.00130 and also use auto pay and this will lower your payment. If you want to remain with MB in the future, they usually have pull ahead programs. With these programs, I actually put prepaid maintenance into the lease and also dealer fee and lease fee.

I'm not sure where in CT you are, but there are plenty of MB dealers here as well as in our neighboring states. NY dealers can only charge a $75 dealer fee while the dealers in CT can charge whatever they want as a conveyance fee. $499 in your case.

That's interesting @nyccarguy. I'm in Fairfield county so very close to NYC in fact I'm there for work quite a bit. I'm curios what other fees a NYC based dealership would charge that a CT dealer would not. My assumption is there would be some ridiculous tax or fee simply to cover their space - like every other NYC based business.

There has got to be other hidden costs or is it really possible to get a luxury vehicle cheaper in the city than in the burbs?  Although if there was a state more expensive then NYC it would prob be CT.

    Appreciate the insight.

I'm not even talking about the city. Westchester county (White Plains, New Rochelle, Mount Kisco). Rockland county (Nanuet). There are no other hidden fees. You'll get a temporary plate and the dealer will overnight you the real plates when they come in. New York State has a law that regulates the documentation fee a car dealer can charge to $75 (CT & NJ don't). I think they also charge a $12.50 tire and recycling fee in NY as well. I live in Stamford and have bought my last 2 cars in NY. A 2011 BMW 328xi at Wide World BMW (Spring Valley, NY - Rockland County) and a 2015 Subaru Legacy at Rye Subaru (Rye, NY - Westchester County).

Make sure you look at the lease deal as a whole. Selling price, money factor (some dealers mark up for extra profit), Acquisition Fee (MB lets dealers mark this up for extra profit), and "conveyance fee." If one of the CT dealers is selling you the car for less money than a NY dealer but wants to charge a $499 conveyance fee, the n that is OK. Add up your total cost of the lease and see who comes out the cheapest after 36 months.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

The current MB numbers expire on Monday, 3/2/15. We should get the March numbers sometime next week.
