Ok..sorry to ask again..if my MSRP is $62,715 and my selling price is $54,584. the residual value (56%) is on the selling price in this case? Thanks.
Nope, on the $62,715 - 56% of that is $35,120. The difference between your selling price and the residual value determines the depreciation portion of your payment:
$54,584 - $35,120 = $19,464. Over 36 months, that works out to $540.67/mo.
Then you add the rent charge (interest) to that, then sales tax to the total of the two.
Hi...I am working my first lease and wanted to get some insight since I have learned so much from this site already.
2015 ML 350 4Matic MSRP: 61731 Sale Price: 54323 Out the door price: 57973 (taxes & other fees included) Term: 36m/12k miles mf: .00149
Option 1 out of pocket: 4000 payment incl. IA taxes: 698
or Option 2 out of pocket: 1775 payment incl. IA taxes: 796
It seems like a good deal but I am not sure about the 4k out of pocket since their quote doesn't show it being applied to the final price. Is there anything else in all that that I should be looking for? Thanks!

.00099 MF and 55% residual.
Get a breakdown of the OTD price. Make sure all of the charges are relevant to a lease. Also, make sure you know how Iowa taxes a lease. Is it on the monthly payment? Collected upfront? Do they tax the full purchase price on a lease?
Also, ask for the CAP cost on those two examples, and what is added or subtracted from the selling price to get there.
We already know that they've marked up the money factor. Need to find out what else is hiding in the numbers.
Hi Michael, I am looking at a ML 350 4MATIC as well (posted a GL question in the other thread) to see which option will work. going b/w 5 and 7 seater choices. Can you help me with the MF, Residual for 36mths for12/15k miles? The MSRP of the one I looked up is $62,530 and has premium, park assist pkgs. What would a typical deal look like for the above SUV?
This is a great forum BTW! so much good information. Thanks!

No, if taxes and fees are being added into the selling price, the payment will be higher, which is why we need to know the net cap cost.
And, as your other thread mentioned, if this is for the ML250, then my MF and residual numbers are wrong. MF is around .00200 and the 36/15 residual is 57% instead of 53%.
Using your price information, I get a payment of $664/mo.
Please help - very new at this leasing thing. My husband and I looked at two cars yesterday and we are not sure if we are getting a good deal.
2015 M350 4matic - 61k msrp, discount of 5k brings it to 56k; 36/12 lease around $770 per month after 2k down for first month payment and other fees; I'm not sure if this price includes sales tax??
Next car is exactly the same except it has 7k miles (used as a loaner); discount would be 8k off msrp bringing it to 53k; same down payment, monthly payment around $700.
We are in MI, sales tax is 6%; when they give you those final prices do they typically include tax? We are going back tomorrow to possibly finalize. Are we getting as good of a deal as they say on these "older" models or should we pursue the new 2016s?? How much are those being discounted off the MSRP realistically?

.00099 MF and 55% residual.
On the 1st one, I get $712/mo.+tax, or about $754/mo. That's not far off, and your numbers appear to be rounded off, so that could certainly make up the difference.
Price quotes aren't typically, anything. Generally, if you assume something is included, it's not..
If your quote includes tax, the calculations are pretty close. Whether it's a good deal or not? I'm not sure. We see some pretty big discounts from MSRP at model year end. Scroll back a few pages and look for other's examples.
I would definitely take a demo on a lease for a 10% savings in payment.
Thanks kyfdx. I spoke with the dealership again today and those numbers did include tax. My husband tried to get another $2,500 off the MSRP on the new car and they refused. They said maybe another $500 off max. We also got the MF which is 0.00122 and they refused to lower that to 0.00099 as well. So we walked away from the deal. We will either shop around some more or maybe pursue the GLE model around Christmas time. I hope we made the right decision
I have another question. How do you know the money factor is 0.00099? Where do you get this information? If I base it on the advertised 2.99% APR then I get a MF of 0.00124 which is closer to what the dealer is offering. The reason I'm asking is because if they ask where I got this 0.00099 number from, what can I tell them? Thanks.

The information is not public. However, you can politely but firmly inform the dealer you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF. They know what the base rate is.
Ok great thanks! I got in touch with another dealer - they're willing to give the 0.00099 MF but said they won't go anywhere near 5,500$ off MSRP. So we are starting to think maybe the other place is giving us a decent deal and will negotiate the MF next.

Yeah, the dealer can make money either by reducing the size of the discount from sticker OR using the base MF --- you gotta find the one dealer willing to negotiate on both.
Over the weekend was able to negotiate the MF down to 0.00099 and 7% off MSRP on a 36/12 K lease for 350 ML 4matic. Dealer was very abrasive when negotiating the MF hence it took hours to get them down to the base MF. Should have I pressed for more off the MSRP?
My wife and I were a little fatigued after hours at the dealer and were satisfied with our payment so we took the deal.

Remember, the dealer is in business to make a profit. They can do it by either reducing the discount from sticker or marking up the MF. Some try to do both.
If you're happy with the deal, just enjoy the new MB. The pleasure you get from driving it will last far longer than any feelings you have about the financials.
i was looking for a ML350 and the MSRP is 60,345 for the one that found near my house. I tried to search on the forum to find a good deal people got. I am looking to lease for 36/10. I could get the monthly payment using the calculator however now sure what discount to expect. The dealer mentioned that the car is a demo car and has done 6k on miles. Should 15% be a good discount on the MSRP even if it has some miles on it or should I expect more.

I don't track selling prices; read back through the last few pages of this discussion to see what others have been able to negotiate.
The 6000 miles will allow you to get a better selling price, but the lease residual will be lowered as well.
Thanks a lot Michael. You have been very helpful. Does the bank and other fees seem reasonable?
Bank fee is marked up from base of $795 ... doc fee is annoying, but about par for what I've seen in NJ (it's close to $500 here in CO). Everything else is government mandated.
Thanks. Just realised that my current visa is valid till 2017 ( not a permanent resident yet) and the dealer is now working on a 24 month numbers. Would you have the 24/10 numbers for 4matic. I am guessing it would work out slightly more expensive overall considering the fees and all would be same regardless whether it is 36 or 24
Comments
$54,584 - $35,120 = $19,464. Over 36 months, that works out to $540.67/mo.
Then you add the rent charge (interest) to that, then sales tax to the total of the two.

I'd ask the dealer for two things:
1. Net cap cost, and how they arrived at that number from the selling price
2. MF; dealer is allowed to mark it up on you for extra profit
