Looking at doing my first lease ever. I've been quoted the following:

    Outback 2.5i Limited
Eyesight package (moonroof, keyless access, push button start, nav, etc.)
    PZEV
Auto-Dimming Mirror, Approach Lighting, Rear Bumper Cover, All Weather Mats, Splash Guards, Rear Seatback Protector, etc.

    MSRP: $35,176
    Quoted: $31,976
    3 year/12k
    $1800 down

    $355/month

Sound right or am I getting squeezed a little?

    .00120 MF and 63% residual.

If the quoted price were the CAP cost, then the payment would be about $338/mo.+tax.

Not knowing the CAP cost, or how the $1800 is allocated, or your state/tax rate, it's hard to say, but it certainly looks like you are in the ballpark.

Dealer quoted a lease price of $387 + tax. I'll have to ask what money factor and cap cost they're using.

    Thanks for the help.

Dealer made it sound like the MF of .0017 is non negotiable. Makes around 30-40 difference per month vs .0012.

Sure, that's what they want you to think. You explain to them, politely but firmly, that you won't sign a deal with an inflated MF. They know what the base rate is.

And, reach out to multiple dealers. Being the end of the month, you may find one willing to meet your numbers.

Anyone know if there are any dealer/Subaru rebates or credits on leases currently? I'm specifically looking at the Limited 2.5. Looking at the numbers people have shown above it seems that these are going close to invoice right now, which is surprising to me unless there are some rebates or credits. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Michaell,

I read all your replies in this thread and they are really helpful! So, I was wondering if you could help me with my question below.

I'm planning on leasing the 2.5i Limited Outback. I'm just wondering, when I reach out to the car dealers, do I tell them that I'm looking to lease the car or I negotiate the price with them until the very end before I mention about the lease? I saw on the some website, it says to not mention about the lease until I'm settled with the final price because the monthly payment is based on the price I settled on.

    Thanks in advance! :)

P.S. Sorry that I've also posted this message in your activity page. I'm a Newbie here and I'm still getting to know this website.

You can let them know you are leasing and still negotiate the selling price.

The problem with starting the other way, is they may be giving you numbers that aren't valid for a lease, due to incentives and rebates that are purchase only. Then, you tell them you want to lease and the price changes, and you think you are being screwed. (you could be..lol).

I let them know I want to lease, and I know the base rates and expect them to be used on my deal. Then, negotiate the price. If you have trouble with the lease math, then the way you negotiate won't make any difference. You need to have the numbers down, before you start.

    Hi Kyfdx,

Thanks for your detailed response. So far this is what I got from one of the dealer. For the 2.5i Outback Limited, the MSRP is $35,461 and selling price is $32,390 with 0.00135 MF and 65% residual.

Can you help me calculate how much will my monthly payment be?

    Thanks again!! :D

Those are the numbers for the Premium model, not Limited.

If those are the numbers, and selling price = adjusted CAP cost ,then $335/mo.+tax

    Hi Kyfdx,

Thanks for the caculation! I'm also getting ~$330/ month, which is not very different from yours but the car dealer came back with a monthly payment of $349+tax. I did ask him if the MF is 0.00135 with 65% residual and he said yes. He said that because there's a $595 bank fee that spreads throughout the lease. So with the $595 included in the monthly payment, I guess this makes the monthly payment a total of $349. Does this sound reasonable to you or do you think I might be able to go lower? FYI, it's a 2016 Outback Limited PZEV, with optional package #23.

Then he said I just need to pay $790 upfront (for document fee, license fee, DMV fee, CA tire fee n etc).

    Thanks!!!

The acquisition fee would definitely make up the difference in the payment calculations. We do not track selling prices so can I tell you if you can get a lower price or not.

    Hi,

May I know how much more can the dealer mark up the MF? In other words, what's the maximum MF can the dealer give out for the Limited Outback?

Also, if I decide to go for $0 down payment, does it mean that all the fees such as acquisition fee, document fee, license fee and etc should be added to the cap cost?

    Thanks!!

Max markup on MF is .00050.

$0 down is not the same as $0 out of pocket. You can choose to roll in those fees to the cap cost, or pay them at lease inception.

Down payment (aka 'cap cost reduction') is used to decrease the amount of the cap cost used in calculating the lease payment. We recommend against it, as that money is lost if the car is stolen or totaled during the lease.

    Hi Michaell,

One of the dealer said that I can roll in the acquisition fee to the cap cost. As for the rest of the fees (document fee, license fee, DMV filing fee and tire fee), they are due when I sign the lease. Would you recommend paying those fee upfront or it's better to also roll in those fees to the cap cost?

    Thanks!!

It's better to pay up front ... the more you roll into the cap cost, the more interest (rent charge) you pay.

    Hi Michaell,

You are right that the more I roll into the cap cost, the more interest I'll have to pay. But if I pay these fees upfront, isn't this amount of money gonna be lost if the car is stolen or totaled (just like the down payment)?

    Thanks!!

    Hi Michaell,

You are right that the more I roll into the cap cost, the more interest I'll have to pay. But if I pay these fees upfront, isn't this amount of money gonna be lost if the car is stolen or totaled (just like the down payment)?

    Thanks!!

If you live in a state that taxes the monthly lease payment, you want to pay non-taxable fees upfront. Otherwise, if you roll them in, not only are they subject to finance charges (which is okay), they are also taxed, along with the rest of the monthly payment (not okay).

Hi Michaell, thanks for all the info you provide here. Can you tell me the residual and MF for 2.5 Limited, 36 mo, 12k miles for California. Also, is it the same for Arizona?

And you likely don't know, but when a big public recall like the one on the Outback happens, are prices lower or incentives higher in the following months? And historically, do you know if the residual and/or MF change late in the selling season? There are apparently very few Outbacks inbound now, so they've got to clear existing inventory before the '17s start coming in.

    Thanks again!

.00120 MF and 63% residual, nationwide.

No history you can rely on, when it comes to rates/residuals.

Hi, May I please have the money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease (15k per year) for a 2016 Outback Premium in Chicago for the month of May 2016? Also, what would be the same for 12k/yr?

    Hello,

I'm looking at leasing a Subaru 2.5 Limited in WI for 36 months/12K per year. Are the figures quoted above, .00120 MF and 63% applicable across the country or are there regional differences?

As long as the dealer uses Subaru Motors Finance (aka Chase), the numbers are nationwide.
