Price Check: I am looking to buy a 2016 Odyssey EX-L in Northern Virginia. I have been offered $32,700 OTD but wanted to hear whether folks thought this was a good price or whether I can get a better price?
Finally pulled the trigger on EX-L in Greater Columbus OH area on April end at close to $30,100, with the Honda $1K loyalty program which requires me to take the Honda 0.9% APR loan and no penalty if I pay all after 3 months. Note that the $1K off comes off at the end of all costs/fees, i.e. cash back.
Could not wait any longer for the Chrysler Pacifica 2017 to pressure Odyssey 2016. My old odyssey is getting very close to the big maintenance package (timing belt etc), plus I am taking extended summer off soon. If I have newer Odyssey, would have waited till end of May~July, or even next year.
Sale price: $31,100 document fee: $250 Tax: 7% Title fee: $34 Total price: $33,578 Minus loyalty money $1000 Grand total = $32,578 OTD
Pretty good deal. What year was your old odyssey that got you qualified for loyalty money.

Hi Sean2000, this is an amazing deal. Could you tell me the name of the dealership? Thank you! Rik
I got the following quote from Honda dealer. What are your thoughts? Any input is appreciated.
Model: 2016 Odyssey EX-L Sale Price: $31,500.00 Document fee: $0 -- waived they have a special going on right now. It used to be $499 Tax: 7% ( I live in Indiana) Total price: $33,705.00
They said I could get a $1k off for Odyssey loyalty program, but I don't have 2006 or newer Odyssey.
Basically I'm asking what other "fee's" will attempt to tack on? Is this a good deal or should I negotiate more?

Hi Rik, I see invoice at $33,856 and TMV is a few hundred bucks less at $33,420. (That's for a 47401 zip and those number include the $900 destination).
So your quote looks good, well under invoice and TMV.
Other fees? Tell the dealer you are ready to buy and that you want to know the "out the door" number. Saying OTD is code for "give me a good bottom line number". Then you can compare that number with the $33,705 quote you think you have.
Don't think there's one for the Odyssey, but feel free to post away in here. Or start a new discussion if you wish.
When you drill down to get TMV, there's a line item at the bottom that sets out the CPO target price. Here's a shortcut link or look for the What's My Car Worth tab up top.
General rule of thumb for an Odyssey is that a CPO one will be ~$1,000 more than the dealer retail price.
I negotiated through the phone for a price match from another dealer. The dealership where I bought the car has 7 year/100k mile power train warranty for free but with $100 deductible.
The 7-year/100k warranty is exclusively at their dealership. This is my 3rd Honda since 2009 and they were very reliable for me, no issues, whatsoever. I'm almost positive I won't need to use the extra warranty.
I've negotiated $40.1k OTD price, it was $40 less than that because I used The tag from my trade in in my new Odyssey.
Don't know which state you are in. But I don't like this cheaper dealer asking customer to pay it's business license tax. What his profit is used for? Counting on the $12 or $10 to confuse buyers?
It's better to ask more dealers in your area to compare. You can use the edmunds.com feature to send emails to many dealers and let them to compete.
In my purchase 2 weeks ago, the lowest price is about 1500$ below the others, which many dealer told me that was an impossible price. But I bought it at that price in a very close dealer, with not too much negotiation.
This is the model year end and wish every get a good deal. There are tons of Odyssey in dealers parking lot waiting to be moved.
The out of door price should be only the sum of this: 1. car price, included destination charge already. 2. local tax pay to gov 3. car license fee paid to DMV 4. a reasonable doc fee, $60-80.
In California, I still see the deal can be as low as INVOICE - $3000 for an Ody. I bought my EX with INVOICE -$3500, brand new with only 5 miles on it. I like this deal.
Im in market for Odyssey EX-L - base package - no RES or Navi. All I'm seeing here in upstate NY is 34,000 price range. Whereas some are scoring $31,000 price rang here. Should I wait for 2016 model ? Is there anything better coming out in 2017 ?
I bought the 2016 Odyssey Touring Elite at Fredericksburg, VA from Pohanka Honda for $40.1k OTD, but that includes outstanding balance of $883 to my traded-in vehicle, so effective OTD is $39.2k. Sticker price excluding handling and destination is $44.9k. I don't care how much dealer fees they put in as long as my OTD is $40.1k and they paid off the remaining balance of my loan, $883.
While I got a good deal, they will also make money from my traded-in car.
I'm happy overall. I dealt with a good salesperson and it was a smooth transaction, 0 downpayment, 0.9% apr.

To novabuyer2, I am impressed with your quote. Could you let me know the dealer? The best I got is 34K OTD. Thanks.
Can someone help me with this? This is my very first car purchase so i ah e no experience. i'm got 2 offers from the same dealer for a brand new 2016 honda odyssey elite.

Be very careful even to get the OTD total numbers. This dealer is cheating. You may complain them to Honda. Every month you pay $65 more, in 6 years you will pay $65 X 60 = $3900 more than you should paid.
I think Honda is not going to play this kind of game, the dealer is bad.
That's a great price. I'm also in the Bay Area and looking for an ex-l. Would you mind sharing which dealership and or salesperson you got that price at?
A number of dealerships in the Bay Area are offering $30,988 +TTL for the base EX-L. I just called the one I was most comfortable with and negotiated from there.
If you would share the dealership name with me, I'd appreciate it. The lowest I've been able to get anyone to quote me is $31,382 and getting that was like pulling teeth. Thanks!
Looking to buy over Memorial Day and trying to finalize the numbers, looks like very best OTD price is around 32,700 for EX-L. I'm in Tampa, Fl, anybody have any better numbers than 32,700?

People should stop comparing OTD prices as taxes and fees not only vary from state to state, but from county and street addresses in some cases as well.
Ok, thanks for the clarification. Can someone confirm reasonable base price before TTL? I have seen a range on these forums but want to make sure I at least get close to what everyone else is getting for Ex-L./

Hi @tampagator2000, Invoice is $34,597, MSRP is $36,950 and the TMV average is $32,446 for your area. Those numbers include destination but nothing else.
TMV is quite a bit lower than I would have guessed before running the numbers.
TMV plus TTL would get you to around $34,880, assuming a 7.5% tax rate (that's using our fee schedule, which often seems wrong, but you can double-check that easily enough).
Throw in a reasonable doc fee and the target OTD to beat would be $35,000.
I pulled an Odyssey EXL with RES in Northern VA. Here are the numbers:
Van MSRP $32,265 State Tax $1,323 Registration/Title $63 Dealer Fee $499
Total - OTD $34,150
No extra options were installed on the Van.
On top of this I paid $1400 towards Honda Care for 7 yrs/80K Miles Extended Warranty. Since the van had too much electronics and power door/tailgate options, I went for it.
This forum is fantastic and very much appreciate its existence.
My process was to review this forum then solicit internet prices from up to 200 miles from my house. I ended up submitting about 8 requests on a 2016 Odyssey EX-L RES. I received a great initial offer from Paramus Honda (NJ) for $33,861 with no destination fees. I followed up with others that contacted me and found one dealer at Carbon Honda (NY) willing to go down to $33,500 with no destination fees. I picked it up on Saturday without issue.
Price $33,500.00 Fees $147.50 Plate transfer fee $15.00 Plus tax
With the only contingency that I finance at least $5,000 for at least 3 months. My local Honda Dealer was unwilling to match the offer.
Very nice experience all around.
Hi,
What is your OTD for 2016 Honda Odyssey EX-L with RES? Can you send me dealer details?
I pulled an Odyssey EXL with RES in Northern VA. Here are the numbers:
Van MSRP $32,265 State Tax $1,323 Registration/Title $63 Dealer Fee $499
Total - OTD $34,150
No extra options were installed on the Van.

After contacting a bunch of dealerships the best quote I could get in the SF Bay Area on an Odyssey EX-L was $30,949 plus TTL. That dealer sold the color combination I wanted, so I started calling around to try and get people to match the price. The first two dealerships would do around $31,300 but wouldn't go below that. The third dealership declined to match at first, and then called me back. So I will be paying $30,949 plus TTL and then getting the Honda Dream Garage $750 credit for financing through Honda.
Based on my experience, the prices listed there (Tell Me The Best price) already include he destination charge. Last Sept in Columbus OH, I get best quote EX-L was $30,800 (include Dest charge), while the TellMeBest was at $30,600.
With Pacifica 2017 coming out now, I hope Odyssey prices would get hammered. just in time for me to pick one up next Month.
Sean2000, never mind. After reading through all of the posts I see that you already answered my question. Congrats of the new Honda!
Finally pulled the trigger on EX-L in Greater Columbus OH area on April end at close to $30,100, with the Honda $1K loyalty program which requires me to take the Honda 0.9% APR loan and no penalty if I pay all after 3 months. A reporter is looking to speak with someone over the age of 50 who recently purchased a new vehicle within the last six months. If you're willing to assist, please reach out to pr@edmunds.com by June 2, 2016.
Sean2000, Thanks for the information! Did you get any accessories like navigation or remote start? I'm looking to buy an EX-L this month. Enjoy your new Honda! -Thanks Matt
No, just base EX-L, nothing else. At the time of my purchase, I did not realize there is Honda Dream Garage $750. I did try later but seems could not get it. Some said it re-opens later and then closed again.
Does anyone know the MSRP and Invoice are for EX-L with Navigation? The "Tell Me The Best Prices" only shows EX-L and EX-L with RES. I'm trying to negotiate with a couple different dealerships in the Columbus Ohio area and the best price I can get so far for an EX-L with Navi is $35,057 OTD with all season floor and trunk mats and roof racks/rails. I was hoping to get for around $34K, but that may not be a reality.
The lowest price I was able to get in NY/NJ are was 31,800 for ODY EXL. Has anybody received a better deal in the area? Should I wait for June end? There seems to be no new supply of ODYs. That makes me think may be the production has stopped since the new model may be coming out soon.

For the 1year 12000 miles, I think the "eligible" for maintenance means free of charge to any new car owner.
Add $2,000 to TMV for your approximate taxes and fees and you wind up with $34,404.
So it looks like your quote is about $1,700 below TMV and more like $3,000 off invoice, if my backward math is close.
Looks like an excellent price from here.

Dealer’s Business License Tax: $ 35.00
Purchaser’s Online Filing Fee: $ 10.00
Title Fee: $ 12.00
Less Trade-In (negative trade, we owe more than the traded in value) $ (884.00)
Total OTD $40,060.00
Effective OTD $39,176.00 (less $884) --> since we rolled over what we owe from our trade-in
What do you guys think?
This thread has been very helpful for my negotiation.
So your price is great, even after the inflated "Processing Fee for Consumer Services". Why don't they just call it extra profit?
I'm not a fan of those "free" extended warranties. I bet there's a lot of exclusions involved.

1st option:
OTD: $40,856

Loan: $35,856
APR: 0.9% for 60 months
Payment: $676/month
2nd option:
OTD: $41,856
Down: $5,000
Loan: $36,856
APR: 0% for 60 months
Payment: $678/month
I want to ask that. How did they come up with these payments? (Not so good at math so
Example 2 is ZERO% interest, so just divide the loan amount by 60 payment and you get $614.27
Example 1 at 0.9% interest and $1000 less loan amount = $611.37
Not sure where they are coming up with the extra $65/mo. on either one.

This is what I get for a 43085 zip for an EX-L with Nav:
Invoice - $35,680
MSRP - $38,950
TMV - $36,285
Going by the $1,014 "adjustment" we show for that zip, it sounds like your negotiations are going good. Must be a bit of a hot market.
Honda car sales in May were down 5% per the news blurbs out today. Maybe you can use that to scare up a few more bucks.
Good luck!
