Anyone have unused Honda dream garage code ? I like to get one for my new honda purchase.

Best check with your dealer - the fine print says "The $750 Honda Dream Garage offer is available to individual bearing unique offer code" so my guess is that the code isn't transferrable.

I am preparing to purchase a 2016 EX-L Honda Odyssey in the next few weeks. Please advise on an appropriate price for purchase in North Carolina (and appropriate time of month to offer bid). It looks like stan1990 recently negotiated $29,950 before TTL (in Northern Virginia). If I am looking at this correct, this would be almost $4000 below invoice pre-tax/tag. Is that what I should offer here in NC? BTW, thank you for this forum. It has made two recent CRV purchases phenomenally easy! Best regards, Tim

So, invoice is $33,971, and TMV is a good $1,400 below invoice at $32,571. That's for a Raleigh zip and includes the $900 destination.

Since TMV reflects the average price paid, some buyers must be getting around $2,000 to $2,500 below invoice. Not sure is another @stan1990 deal is available, but you can sure try for that. NoVA has aggressive dealers (may want to shop out of state).

Usual advice applies - shop multiple dealers and the best deals seem to happen at the end of the month. Could be some 4th of July deals too. If you need to wait 3 weeks, then you could start your search then, aiming to close at the end of July.

My feeling is that car sales are easing and that new incentives could hit the table on July 6th.

Good luck Tim, keep checking back in, and thanks for the kind words!

@tsc4 I have not pulled the plug yet on the Odyssey but yeah that $29950 deal is all sewn up. I am not sure if I will be making a mistake by waiting for July incentives to kick in. I have 1 more day to make up my mind and then the decision will essentially be done.

    After two days of negotiations:

    2016 Honda Odyssey EX-L

    Vehicle: $31,130

    OTD $33,500 (6.25% tax)

Includes tint, splash guards, and they threw in a free Honda Sentinel plan

End of the month plus end of the quarter so I felt no need to wait for July 4 specials

Congrats! The free oil changes are nice too.

    I am being offered

2016 Honda Odyssey EX-L no navi

Vehicle Price: 31,655 before tax, title, doc
    + perma plate for 499
    + tint for 355

What do you think bite or wait a little longer? Not as hot as some others have been getting.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
PermaPlate is worthless imho. The tint could be okay, but it's my understanding that the aftermarket shops can get you better tint for less.

Some areas of the country are better than others for buying Hondas.

Texas isn't so hot (you mention tint, so maybe you are in down here in the SouthWest somewhere).

Tomorrow is "the" day though - try calling your other dealers, assuming there's some more within an hour's drive, and see if any are willing to beat your quote.

Thanks, ya Permaplate is worthless from what I read. So I def will re fuse that. I am in Arizona so the tint will be helpful. I just am not thrilled with the price. I have been going back and forth without any budging. Any other things I should negotiate? I saw free oil changes so I would ask for that for sure.

What are your thoughts about waiting for the 2017 model since its release is pretty soon? I am willing to wait another 2-3 months.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Guess it depends on how badly you need (or want) a new car. I always wait for the latest and greatest myself. That's why I haven't had a new ride (off the showroom floor) since 1998. :)

Deals should be getting better as we get closer to the new model year, but the 2017 Odyssey will be a redesign. That's usually a good thing. The new Pacifica might increase minivan interest across the board, but it's hard to imagine that minivans will hit big sales numbers anymore.

Just bought an EX-L with list price of $36,950 in MA. I missed the Dream Garage offer, but qualified for the loyalty. These prices were obtained without promise of any trade in (I had gotten a written quote from Carmax and was prepared to sell it to them). The dealer gave me less than the Carmax offer, but still $500 above clean trade-in, and I saved the difference in sales tax, so it came close to a wash.

For the 2016 Odyssey, Boch Honda Norwood's price was $30,886 +399 doc + TTL - $1000 loyalty credit

Ultimately bought the car for $29,988 + 350 doc +TTL - $1000 loyalty credit from Herb Chambers, and they even delivered the car to me out of state. I did have to finance at 4.9 for 90 days to get the loyalty credit, but we will pay that off. I am not sure this offer could be replicated -- the BDC manager made an error and quoted me an erroneously low price via email. but they honored the quote, so I'm very grateful.

For anyone interested in a lease-buy comparison, I purchased an EX-L Ody back in 2010 for a great price at the end of the model year (with the help of this forum). Given what I got for the trade, I figure I drove the car for 6 years for about $230 a month. No repairs beyond routine needed (1 battery, tires, oil, brakes).

Thanks for the price info and congrats on the new minivan!

Hi guys, need some advise on this one. Here's my story. I was looking to getting a Pilot exl and there's one dealer giving it to me for $35K. All others were either doing it for MSRP or a little below MSRP which is at $36,995. Got to the lot and they only had the pilot exl-navi left which the manager was okay to give it away for $36,000.

Then I saw the Odyssey (Touring Trim - RES, parking sensor etc...) inside. MSRP $43,205 and invoice at $39,948. It was on Manager's special for $39,033. After the talk, manager said best he could do is $37,000. I can get on the 0.9% APR for 60 mos. or lease it for $270/month tax included with a $9000 (minus trade in tax of about $600) trade in. Car has residual value of $21,690 after 3 years which I have the option to buy at this price should I decide to. Is this a good deal? Should I lease or buy it with the trade-in or lease to buy? Any input is highly appreciated. Thanks!

Can't help you with the lease vs. buy question, but we do not recommend using trade equity to buy down the lease payment. If the car is stolen or totaled, you lose that money.

Thanks Michaell, I appreciate it. What is the official MF and RV for the 2016 Odyssey Touring then? Sorry I have to ask this. I just want to confirm the nos. that the sales rep verbalized to me. Also, is $37,000 a good deal for the car considering the MSRP is $43,205? And if I lease, should I just pay minimum down payment?

.00041 and 49% for 36 months, 15,000 miles per year. $1750 total lease cash available, which I'm sure is accounted for in the dealer quote.

In Orlando, FL. After dealing with 5 - 7 dealerships all over Central Florida we closed yesterday.

2016, Honda Odyssey Touring Elite, Black with Truffle Interior. 20 miles

    Vehicle Price: 38,741
    Dealer fee: 699.99
    Dealer Incentive: 500.00
    Trade-In 7000.00 (2005 Honda Odyssey EX-L 69,345 miles) *Dealer made a mistake, I'll explain.
    Taxes: 2108.60
    Total: 34048.60

*We were initially offered 6000 on the trade. During the test drive, the Manager said to me "Were you told about the Odyssey to Odyssey $100 dollar incentive?" I said "No" and played dumb even thought I knew it was for 2006 models and up. They admitted their mistake and gave us the $1000 in the trade-in value.

This is our first new vehicle purchase since 2005 so my husband and I have been nervous, however we know we are getting a quality vehicle that will hopefully last us 12 years that our old van.

    Happy Fourth of July everyone!

Happy 4th of July everyone. I am looking at a Honda Odyssey EX-L (no RES/Navi). Planning on buying today if all goes well. I have been quoted 34771 OTD for 30005 Zipcode.

TMV is 31968. I am really confused as to what is a good OTD price.

    Pleas help

TMV is $2,500 below invoice so that's already a good number. But you may still be able to go a bit lower.

Let's stick with $32,000 for the selling price - we show 8% sales tax for Georgia (best double check that though) and average DMV fees are low at $40. Where the dealers get you is high doc fees and they are almost as bad in Georgia as they are in Florida.

So $32k x 8% puts you at $34,560, plus the DMV fees so call $34,600 as a good OTD price. There's no doc fee in that number, but everything else is, including destination.

Since TMV is an average, some people are paying less. I'd shoot for $34k OTD and work my way up a bit, but with the selling price already so much below invoice, and the dealer not hammering you with a crazy doc fee, you'd doing fine just as you are.

I'm seeing a blurb on the Build and Price page advertising "Save up to $6,000 with Edmunds Price Promise". $6,000 off MSRP would be $31,000. So you may want to get a Price Promise certificate and see how that works out. Some Price Promise dealers may play games with the destination or other fees, so you still have to watch the bottom line.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

$39,616 for a 2016 ody touring elite. White/truffle. Extras included were window tint, wheel locks, 3m chip prevention on side mirrors and handles, and splashguards. We purchased at autonation Honda in Renton, WA.

I was offered $38,750 at another dealership, but with around $2k in accessories that I didn't want nor had the energy to negotiate off, so we went with the afforementioned offer. (The other dealership was sims Honda in Burlington, and mark ruderman there was incredibly easy to communicate with and extra willing to go the extra mile).

Both dealerships honored a lower quote right away, but were not interested in participating in the "fighting chance" email/call blast method earlier in the month when I contacted all local Honda dealers. It wasn't until the sales manager at automation Renton emailed me on 6/29 following up on leads that they jumped on the Sims offer.

This is my first post and I'm now a very happy ody owner. This is my third Honda. I started with a del sol in 96 followed by an element in 2006. Apparently, I buy a new Honda every 10 years...ha!

Hello all, first time poster here. These forums have given me a lot of good information.

Can someone advise on whether I'm getting a good deal? Hoping someone can respond to me early on July 5th, as I have until the end of the day to accept the below offer on a 2016 Honda Odyssey SE (I'm in North Jersey):

    $30,800
    $2,156 in taxes
$406.50 in other fees and registration
    $33,362.50 TOTAL

The TMV is $30,745, which I guess is before taxes and fees?

    Thank you in advance!

Yes, TMV includes the $900 destination but nothing else.

TMV is an average and your quote is right in line with TMV. You probably have room to go a bit lower if you want to haggle around a bit and shop your quote.

From another angle, invoice is $31,530 (with destination), and there are some "end of the month" deals recently posted for $2,000 or more off invoice (i.e., $29,500 selling price).

It does sound good - Invoice is $35,315 and TMV for 20001 is $34,127. So your quote is ~$3,000 below invoice. Cheap - even makes the doc fees tolerable.

The yen keeps falling against the US dollar and that could be putting some more price pressure on Honda - even though the US Odyssey is made in Alabama, there's likely a good bit of overseas parts in it. And the new generation 2017 model is due "soon" so Honda may be trying to thin inventory. (spy shot from Left Lane News)

Who knows - NOVA has been a great area for Honda buyers for a few years now.

(Might want to check the VIN against the latest gas tank recall).

Other than the Military, New Graduate deals are there any Cash Incentives right now for Financing, etc? Is it best to just wait until August?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
In addition to the military and grad cash, we show low APR financing through Honda Financial Services.

There could be some more cash in August but it's tough to guess what the manufacturer's will do. If Honda has been winding down the 2016 inventory, they may not feel a need to blow them out the door. Who knows.

The Special APR money is good through 9/6/16.

You should check Honda's website too and plug in your zip code. Occasionally there are regional incentives that we don't hear about.

Pretty sure there is $1250 dealer cash on Odysseys, right now. Whether buying, financing or leasing.

It's a dealer incentive, so it isn't published.

Hi If a dealer is giving EX-L with rear entertainment for 33k OTD, does it sound reasonable ? State tax in my area is 3% by the way.

    Hello everyone,

Looking at buying new 2016 Odyssey EX-L base (no Nav or Entertainment). Trying to get the best deal and am hoping to get some advice here . I am located in the Greater Columbus area and have seen some pretty good deals, just not quite sure how to go about getting there. For example, I'm looking at several vans that fit what we want (basically new with the right color) and dealing has listed between 36800-38800. I'm seeing deals of people getting down into the 31s, which would be great. I know some of the tricks (waiting until end of the month, leverage offers, etc), but what number is a fair number to throw at them first that keeps them negotiating? Don't want them to think I'm not serious and refuse to work with me.

Something to consider, we are able to pay cash (not sure if that helps...I imagine it would but also can see them getting kickbacks from financing deals), want dealer to throw in Luggage Rack and Tow Package (just to have it down the road).

    Would love any advice!

Car taxes are 3% here. For Las Cruces, invoice is $35,316, MSRP is $38,550 and the TMV average is $34,882.

So TMV plus 3% is about $35,900.

Your area dealer is way more aggressive than the ones near me. Sounds more than reasonable.

@roxybell35, you're doing great on your research.

I would tell the dealer that you're planning on financing although you may just pay cash. Don't be surprised if the dealer says the deal will be sweeter if you finance. I've had dealers tell me to finance to get a better deal and then just pay the loan off a week or two later. It's unusual these days for there to be a pre-payment penalty.

Instead of throwing a number out, send out some emails and ask for quotes. It'd be a shame for you to decide on a good selling price and then learn that a dealer had a lower number in mind. At this stage in the game, it's okay to call or get a quote in person. Just know the numbers beforehand so you can grimace when the dealer floats the first number. :)

Don't be afraid to shop the quote(s) around and it's okay to tell the dealers that the one with the best deal gets your business. Many dealers hate to lose a deal to the store across town or in the next county.

Thanks for the help -- we've been looking for some time but now with #2 here we definitely need the space. Initially we were looking at preowned but dealers just were not moving that much and it seemed the value was just better to go new. With the new 2017s out in a couple months, I'm also resigned to waiting a little bit longer to get a better deal on a 2016.

Had around 3 dealers matching the price for me and willing to give at 33K OTD.

That's a good deal. Where in NC> Which Dealer? I'm looking for EX-L (base). Thanks.
