Odd how hard it seems to decently style a van. That new small Nissan is the New York cab, right? Nothing great to look at.
Shifty teased me the other day with a pic of the '01ish VW concept van. It still looks good, in that retro VW sort of way.
My favorite van ever. If the Aztek had had a moustache like that, it would have garnered much more respect.
If that is a picture of small Nissan van I've seen at the dealer for a while, the rear suspension looks like they used leftovers from Elkhart trailer manufacturer.
On foot for 45 mins, saw 4 Teslas, a Fisker, and a 2014 Range Rover - the latter lacking the turn signal option pack, of course.
Was a van like that ever in a bank robbery movie? For some reason that what I thought of. Is there a manhole cover underneath it?
Nissan NV200 in dark blue. Looked okay. Really narrow in the rear view mirror. About 68" wide vs 75" in our '99 Quest.
Saw a Ram Promaster van - in appliance white.
Saw 2x CLA today...quickly becoming not so new. Also a new 3er wagon.
Saw what might be a mythical beast, what looked like a base CLA - no sunroof.
That was the one base unit they imported in order to say that CLA's start at under $30K.
Went to the local new car show.. The one they had on display stickered at $40K..

There homologation special, in a way. I don't think I've seen another lacking roof.
On the rare base model topic, there's a base 1990 LS in my area too, cloth interior. I can't recall if it had a roof or not, but rare car either way.
Edmunds has a long term CLA that I'm pretty sure doesn't have a sunroof.
Good catch, I didn't notice that initially. Their car appears to be modest but not base spec, but still rare without a roof.
I notice customer reviews here are positive, too. Maybe it isn't the hateful thing as claimed by CR.
I spotted a CLA45 AMG yesterday. Black with deep tinted windows. $45K seems to be a bit steep for a compact, FWD biased sedan.
After seeing a few, I've reached the conclusion that the styling of the CLA is trying to hard. Compared to the staid styling of the rest of the lineup, the CLA is quite flamboyant. That of course is IMHO.
At 45K, it's a bit of bang for the buck. But most on the lot will be more like 60K, which is harder to accept - with W204 ending production, you can get a C63 for almost the same money, and IMO, it's more car. Upcoming S3 will give it some competition.
Someone exiting the parking lot at work in a new white MKZ. Also an extremely clean or brand new TSX.
Saw a 2015 Tahoe sitting at the Chevy dealer, finally an update to something that predates the parting of the Red Sea
In the parking lot at work, a new black Explorer Sport.
I had a glance at the new Cherokee in traffic this AM and also the other day. Perhaps I've seem the same one twice as both were whiteI thought it looked better in reality than photos would suggest.
I also saw a new-style Avalon and it struck me that I've seen very few of those. They should be more popular in a big retirement area like this. Perhaps the styling is too "out there"
for the intended market although I myself prefer it to the bland style of previous editions.

Toyota was trying to move the Avalon to a younger audience. In that market it has no place as it's not much bigger than a Camry and for those wanting something upmarket they may as well get the ES350. IMO they've ruined the Avalon and it will never sell like the previous generation. I loved my 06.
2025 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4 / 2023 Mercedes EQE 350 4Matic
There's a CLA sitting on the prime real estate corner of the used car section of my local Lexus dealer. I wonder what that's all about.
They couldn't guarantee my car would be done today, so I got a loaner:
Not bad - build date 11/13, 200 miles on it - has pano and sport package, no nav, base lighting. They used to get loaners from Enterprise, now do it in-house.
And my car is back already - they just unjammed the telescoping feature. Seems like it was a freak occurrence.
I only got to drive the C for several miles - didn't mind it at all, I examined it pretty closely and assembly quality was exceptional. They had a fleet of C loaners hanging around when I returned, some of them C300 4Matics - maybe using them now rather than waiting for them to be unsold later, when the W205 comes out. They have CLS loaners for S-class customers, too.
On the drive home saw a RR Phantom with huge wheels, probably 24" or larger. Gaudy.
Saw a new S Class on the road already. Looks like a nice evolution of the previous model. Also saw a new BMW 2 Series. They have much nicer proportions compared to the previous ones.
2016 Audi A7 3.0T S Line, 2021 Subaru WRX
Fin, I like the C class much more than the CLA. Much more comfortable inside.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Saw a new, white Impala today. That color made me realize that while I think the new Impala is a pretty nice looking car; it, like many of the different recent redesigned cars, all seem to have more than a little of those Sonata like generic styling cues. I'll call it aerodynamic wedge look (including the rear profile) for lack of a better term.
I haven't seen a 2er that I recognized yet, but I have seen a couple 4ers, with the questionably styled "bimmerang" fender decoration.
The C has aged really well for something that entered production 7 years ago. There should be some screaming deals on leftover W204 before the upgraded replacement hits the road this fall.
Regarding Impala, it's that 6 window thing, a fad among many mainstream sedans right now.
Sighted yesterday:
-New Mini Cooper S, a little larger (but still smaller than Golf/Focus), less cute, more butch.
-New Jeep Cherokee. I pulled up to get a good look at the side profile of the pointy nose. From that angle it's certainly a bit odd but not screwy-odd like the Juke. I thought it looked good overall in dark grey and distinctive.

For the Cherokee, there are two different nose profiles - the more "pointy" one is the "Trailhawk" edition, which is more off-road ready.

? They both have the same grill, right? The Trailhawk has a bit more prominent bumper, it seems.
The Cherokee is one of those designs that has grown on me (unlike the Juke). It's OK, now...
The idea is that the approach and departure angles on the Trailhawk are higher than those on the other versions.
I, too, like the look of the Cherokee. Just not sure of the build quality and the strength of the new 9-speed auto. And, it's pretty pricey - a Limited version with the options the wife and I would want comes to between $35-40K.

Rather than mentioning seeing a Tesla, maybe it is time to count them - saw 5 of them this evening. And in one incident, one beside a Fisker Karma. Maybe it's because the Tesla was stopped and the Fisker was moving, but the Karma made the S look like it had the panache of a 15 year old Camry.
Also saw a 4er, surprisingly dirty.
Fisker is a beautiful car in person--my friend's dad has one so I get to see it now and again. The Tesla S is large enough to notice but by my tastes seems to strive to be unoffensive in every possible way. I'd rather look at a Chrysler 300C.
It's inoffensive and modern, which is probably the point. Woo in tech and gadget people.
Do you use a Club or any other similarly manual anti-theft device? That might cause some problem with the auto tilt-telescope wheel.
The current Phantom is hardly the stately car of yore:
Old Phantom:
New Phantom:
The old Phantom looks like a car for royalty or old money. The new Phantom looks like something a rapper or an unsophisticated pro-athlete would drive.
ugly mutt of a car IMO. Nice interior, though.
Nope, never used one - the cars I drive seem to be seldom stolen. It was just a fluke fault, and is now working fine.
That new Phantom in your pic is very much like the ostentatious thing I saw. I wonder how the owner got the money...
Speaking of Phantom's, these are the best:
The somewhat smaller and understated Phantom V from the early 60s has to be one of the classiest and most elegant cars ever built.
Well, the new Phantom is not as stately as the old one in any case. But part of the problem in this comparison is the wheels fit on the new Phantom. Putting those on a Rolls Phantom should be a felony. It would be a closer comparison if you compared the new Phantom with the psychedelically painted one that the Beatles had.
2009 BMW 335i, 2003 Corvette cnv. (RIP 2001 Jaguar XK8 cnv and 1985 MB 380SE [the best of the lot])
Just look at that thing. The molded front bumper that looks glued on, dinky square headlights that look sourced from an RV catalog, and wheels right off a hooptie. The car looks like a cappuccino machine made in Latvia.
It also resembles a Kenworth Semi-tractor>

Boy are there a lot of new Impalas running around Florida, probably most are rentals. While I was there I also saw a number of new Cherokees, they all seem to be dark grey or white.

Saw a 2015 Tahoe on the road this morning, and I am pretty sure a Volvo V60 sitting at the dealer.
I'd sure like to have the chance to at least drive a new Impala. I sure like what I've seen. One kid at Miami U. and another one in college in a year, though. There's no working at the bookstore to cover over $100K in tuition, like in the old days though. The Impala's big, and I could see my wife having nicks all over it though.
I wasn't aware the new Tahoe was out yet. My dealer has an SS but I haven't seen or heard an ad at all about it. I admit that I don't watch much TV though.
What I saw was actually a Yukon (it was dark, but I think I remember GMC) - but the local dealer has at least one 2015 Tahoe visible from the street. Saw a Volvo V60 on the road near the dealer too, not bad looking at all.
The new Impala is a big car - good for hauling people, but maybe a bit big for a commuter. I had that rental last November and was pleased with it, but might not be what I want for parking around here every day. I haven't seen an SS, just the police model.
Subaru BRZ and Dodge Dart.
Hyundai Veloster in white. Just like this one:
Spotted: the Great White Whale, a.k.a. a BMW 5 GT, in white. Followed one today, the usable part of the rear window is almost comically tiny for such a large car:
