I love the picture. Is there a pink tinge to the paint on the car or is that from the camera used to something in my computer's rendering of the picture.

Someone else asked me that about the several pics that were taken that day...no pink tinge, but the Ermine White is creamier than your typical white.

It was a Q4 model - the slip-up was 110% driver error. Money and ability usually diverge.

Uplander, don't worry about posting your Stude - it's a cool car and we know you miss it. I really like the sunroof on those.

I like the 61 Chevy too - like a 60 Ford, an odd evolution between 50s gingerbread and 60s modern. I remember telling my mom a nice driver 61 Impala convertible would be worth 25K - she was shocked. It was an $800 used car in the late 60s. My parents both had much more interesting cars before I was born than after, which is maybe typical (still hard to imagine my mom driving a Beetle with a Porsche 912 engine).

Speaking of new cars, stopped by the MB dealer to discuss a quirk on my car. Not much there, but they had a lot of E-class, and most weren't too loaded up. Must be the lease special ideal. There was a moderately optioned CLA in the showroom, I didn't bother to see sticker. A cool white E63S was in the parking lot.

Before I bought the XF, I looked at the Ghibli Q4. All had summer tires, the salesman said they are working with Maserati to start sending them with all-seasons, but Maserati was fighting them. Performance sedan=performance shoes! But, the salesman said they would (and had done previously) swap the summers for all-seasons.

Wonder if the Quattroporte was wearing the wrong shoes? Or, as you describe, the wrong driver...

Saw a Tesla today with a lit-up "T" emblem, gaudy - like the illuminated star now possible on a few MBs. Money and taste...

Summer tires on an AWD relatively heavy sedan - still driver error, should have known better.

I'm seeing a lot of Teslas, especially because there are no dealers in Texas.

Tesla has 3 galleries in Texas - Dallas, Houston and Austin. They can't sell cars there but people can buy them out of state or on-line and take delivery in Texas.

I wouldn't have the nerve to drop $80-$100k on a car with no dealer around...

Saw a new Yukon today, a new style GMC 2 door pickup, and a new X5.

Spotted a black Buick Encore on Tabor Avenue near Robbins in NE Philly the other day.

I love '61 Impalas--great dash, center glovebox, sorta-Corvette-like steering wheel; excesses of '60 sheared off. I do hate how the radio buttons spelled out "CHEVY" though...an Impala is a CHEVROLET! LOL

I remember the CHEVY buttons on my Dad's 1961 Chevrolet, but he only had a Biscayne 2-door sedan. Dad's car was pretty dressed-up for a plain-jane: Whitewall tires and full wheel discs. My 1968 Buick Special Deluxe's Sonomatic radio's buttons spelled out BUICK.

Saw my first Maserati Ghibli on the road today. Somehwow, looked better, more imposing on the road vs. sitting on the Ferarri/Maserati dealer lot I drive by daily.

I took a ride out to North Scottsdale to the Penske dealer complex which probably has the highest concentration of high end luxury/ sports cars of anyplace in the world. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, Bentley, Land Rover and a bunch of others are all crammed into four or five square miles alongside the Loop 101.

I specifically wanted to see the new Jaguar F-Type. I wonder if they are selling at all because they've been out for almost year and I had yet to see one. There weren't any on view outside of the store so I sauntered in and asked. He pointed me at a white roadster and (apropos of previous comments about white cars) barely registered vis a vis the XK it was sitting next to.

Then I noticed the black roadster sitting nearby and strolled over for a look at this Triple Black example. Oh my! this car had all of the visual excitement and drama promised by the photographs and TV ads I've been seeing all winter. I don't know if black's the color I'd get but I've long felt that there are few cars flattered by the appliance white that's so popular now and the F-type is the perfect example.

Sitting in the car you're conscious of the fact that the car is sizeable, at least as big as a 'Vette and nearly as big as the XK/XKR. Visibility is fairly poor out with the top in place and you sit very low in the car.

Also seen, plenty of Ferrari 458s in coupe and Spider form, a couple of new F12 Berlinettas in the obligatory red, a nice BMW Z4 in Metallic Pearl White (not Appliance White), some slinky Jag XJs and an example of every Porsche and Audi currently made as well as some nice Maserati Coupes and Q-portes which all seemed to be black.

On the way home I spotted a new Stingray convertible w it's roof up. The tan top appeared to be more thickly padded than on previous Corvettes.

The woman who parks across from me at home has replaced her Fit with a new Civic.

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,362

that lady is living dangerously. Watch out.

I stopped with my teenage daughter today at the Honda place. She liked the Accord, but didn't think she would want one, because it was for "old people" like me and the wife. But, she also did not care for the Civic (rear styling and the dash/interior), even though that should be her demographic (in theory).

Lemko, I like the '61's full wheelcovers. At Hershey a few years back I saw a green '61 Impala SS and it had the standard Chevy radio, without pushbuttons. That's what I'd look for to avoid the 'Chevy' buttons! I could sure enjoy one I think. I remember the Buick 'Sonomatic' radios--'Sonomatic' written in large, flashy script. I'm OK with 'Buick' written on the buttons, but it's not shortening the name! ;)

I saw a Lexus LX570 SUV with livery plates - first one I've even seen plated as a limo.

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,423

Saw my first new Mirage on the road...it looks...the part.

Speaking of LX, I got behind a late model (predator face) one today moving like it was chained to a house, and no signal usage either.

  • anythngbutgmanythngbutgm Member Posts: 4,277

Wow, a Lexus as a Livery car, weird...

I actually spotted one of those Lincoln MKT's which had been stretched for limo duty and on the side were placards "Town Car". I haven't seen any news of a replacement so maybe that's Fords plan to continue the nameplate...

Sarcasm or not? I've seen Lexus models used as livery cars - just not the LX570

In 2013, Lincoln introduced a Town Car version of the MKT. The 3rd row is deleted and the second row is moved back 1.5" to allow for more passenger space.

It's a sad use of an iconic name plate IMO. I'd bet those are double to maintain than a Panther chassis.

Other than old guys, Town Car didn't have any value left in it. IMHO, they recycled the name to remind the livery buyers that Lincoln still existed.

No sarcasm at all. I haven't seen any Lexus cars used as Livery (Limo, Funeral use if I understand the term "Livery").

I did get picked up in an ES350 in Boston once using an iphone App-based taxi service.

Saw 2 - yes 2 - Acura RLX's yesterday on my way down Rt 3 from New Hampshire.

Saw 4x new S-class today, only one was in the showroom. Another home run.

Yesterday I saw an i3 on the road, it was just a couple blocks from the auto show, so I don't know if that counts - but it was driving.

Hey fintail, I ended up going to the car show on Sunday at the last minute, I had no way of getting a hold of you otherwise we could have met up. Maybe next time?

    My observations:

-New GM Yukon/Chevy Suburban - too squarish looking for me and they're pushing the CDN $70/$80k range. A tad pricey for something that will be worth about $20k in 4 years.

-Chrysler Sebring - very impressive, and 1000 times nicer than the previous Sebring/200. It should do ok against others in its class.

-Ford Transit minivan - cool van with European feel and flair to it. Totally dig it.

-Hyundai Genesis - very nicely redesigned and loaded to the max with features. I like it too.

-Mitsubishi i Miev- neat electric car but at what price? CDN $30k+. Might as well buy a Mirage for half the price. $15k will buy you a ton of gasoline, about 10+ years worth.

-Mitsubishi Outlander - very bland looking thing in person, not sure it will help the brand.
-speaking of Mirage, base model is $12k, add any half decent options to make it usable and it pushed $18k. A Civic or Mazda 3 would probably be better value.

-New Golf/GTi - very very nicely done. A premium compact car that feels very upscale. Not surprisingly the VW stand attracted the most hipsters. Nearly everyone looking at the Golfs had some kind of a beard, thick framed glasses, and/or toques.

-Lexus - those snouts are not very attractive. Makes the whole line look very goofy. The GX is imo the worst offender.

-Mercedes- loved the E350 wagon. I always loved wagon and this one is no exception. Would take it over an SUV any day.

My favorites were at the BMW stand:
-BMW i3 - such a cool little car with that concept car feel. Love it.
-BMW i8 - same thing, out of this world looking

And my favorite car for sale right now, is still (and has been for the past year or so) the M6 Gran Coupe. What a stunner! I love everything about it, and it would be the perfect "family" car for me.

New Tahoe in traffic. Looked good, better than the last to me, but not as good as some previous generations. Front grill/lights overdone.

Yep we can try again next time. Funny thing, I was going through some data from an old phone, and I think I actually have your number (if it ends with a "0"). I got there right when they opened, to avoid the crowds, and to have some time to dawdle around the city afterwards. I posted a few pics and observations on the "auto show" thread here.

Did you notice their E wagon seemed to be squatting in the back? Something was odd there, it was sitting too low - but I didn't point it out to any of the salespeople/agents there.

I liked the new Transit too, neat little Euro style thing, another rig that makes me think it wouldn't be too hard to turn into a motorcycle hauler - as this one is a little longer than the current model.

The i-series cars are cool. The i3 is funky and futuristic - it might put off some, but I think younger people will love it. i8 is amazing looking, as it should be for the price.

Speaking of new cars - last week a new Civic appeared in my garage, another one is there too - same "pinwheel" hubcaps, this one a kind of maroon coupe.

Yes I noticed that too about the Benz Wagon. I think the wagons have air suspension, but not sure why it would squat in the back.

Yes my number ends in 0, I had the same number for a good 10+ years now.

I got to the show at around noon and had to wait a good hour for tickets. I was a bit choked that for a big show like this there were only 2 ticket booths (apart from the self service credit card stands). And when we got in at around 1pm it was quite busy.

Maybe in the demo mode, or however cars are set up for display, the pressure releases? They definitely have a load leveling suspension - airmatic at rear only IIRC, which on that car gave the appearance of a defect. It reminded me of old air suspended MBs, the rear seems to fail more, and they drag their butts, so to speak.

Too bad about the meet up. When I got there, no line at the self-serve kiosks (which I used), only a couple minute line to get in. I left just before noon, I did notice a line then, and a lot more people inside. Where did you park? The sign at the venue said $25 - I laughed, turned around, and parked on the street a couple blocks away.

I actually took the skytrain in. Didn't want to pay $25 for parking. Drove to my parents house, took a 20 minute skytrain ride (which cost me $10.50 total both ways for me and my dad, and my son was free). Skytrain went right to downtown about 2 blocks away.

Not bad. I parked for $3/hr, which seemed fair enough. If we meet up next year, train might be a good option.

I saw the BMW i3 at the New England Auto show in January. It was locked up, however. But, I found it to be less cartoonish in person than in pix. And it seemed bigger than in pix, could be a great city car. But, like most electric/hybrids (and, BMWs!), expensive.

Nope, not in the trade. For some reason there is a shortage and a year long wait list of new diesel Mercedes GL's here. He got lucky and got one, with no waiting so he was able to actually drive it for about 4-5 months and get all of his money back when he sold it privately.

Spotted a 6 series GranCoupe this morning on my way to work. Yowzah. Love it.

Also a dealer in NH has their first 2 series. a basic 228i with a sticker of about 36 grand. I like the size a lot, it's about the same as an E36.

They also have a slick X5d on display in front. 65 grand...

Passed a Bentley convertible (in front of the Ferrari/Maserati dealer!). No Gray Poupon was exchanged.

Not a Continental GT, although it looked new, must have been a slightly older Bentley. Still, impressive.

Probably an Azure. They cost an insane amount of money when new, much more than a new Continental even in the dollars of 15 years ago.

My local RR-Bentley dealer has several Ghosts and Mulsannes sitting outside the same way a normal lot would stock Civics or Corollas.

  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,181

Yes, I believe that you're correct. An Azure. Much more formal and imposing than the Continental. No local RR/Bentley dealer on my route. But, the Bentley/Maserati dealer is next to the Jag dealer where I purchased. Diagonally across from BMW. Nice neighborhood... Luckily, an inexpensive chain pizzaria between the dealers for me to dine at while waiting!

My local dealer has RR/Bentley/Lamborghini, Jaguar/LR is next door to that, BMW is across the street, Aston Martin is across the street from that with an adjacent special interest dealer. Easy spot to do some fun looking.

  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,181

Parallel-ish universes! That's right, I think the Bentley/Maserati is also a Lambo dealer. I'll have to look closer next time I'm in that neighborhood. Car shopping this New England winter curtailed my wandering about the lot time!

But, is there an inexpensive pizzaria between 'em? :)

Around here, the Maserati dealer is over in Seattle, which shares a facility with Ferrari.

No pizzeria, but a McDonalds next door to the Jag dealer, that counts as food to some :)
