Found a nice white over beige 2014 X1 sDrive28I with 21,080 on the clock, asking $22,998 at a Ft. Lauderdale caddy dealer. Off tomorrow so might go on down there and give a look see. Plum crazy really but like it...a lot! Just hit 21,100 on the way home tonight so similar mileage to what I've been doing. Not the best mpg's, 23 city/34 hwy with a 2.0 turbo engine. Sweet vehicle but would prefer a blue over beige to be honest. Got to do some miles in a 2015 VW Tiguan at work today, the lead driver knew I like these so let me take it on an extended drive to see how it did. Liked the higher seating it has and it just felt right, the 2.0 turbo engine had excellent acceleration with none of that momentary lag my 1.8 turbo has. It was just a pleasure to drive! Again that nagging voice in the back of my head screamed that this is what I should've bought back in December 2013. Might not be a bad idea to wait another year and get a CPO 2016 unit from the local VW used store. Have already paid for the 30K service on the Golf so I could still use it on the Tiguan. As much as I love the Golf, I could see myself in either the X1 or the Tiguan. For the right price, it just might get done...sooner than later!!

Hopefully the X1 has the sport seats with your bad back. I wouldn't even consider it if it doesn't - if non-sport, they are the same non supportive seats as the 2 series that you drove.
I drove a 2016 today. Did drive nice. That 2.0 motor was really sweet. and it had the sport seats (as did the 2 series I sat in while I was there). Yeah, that is a must have, and probably pretty rare on an X1
Good thing I still have 15 months to go, since within the last week, the short list has revised again. As of today, the 2 piquing my interest are the Ioniq, and Civic hatch EX stickshift. Neither of which was a twinkle a week ago!
also finally turned 12K on the Sonata this past weekend on a trip to Saratoga. Almost broken in at this point!
I've got less than three months left on the Elantra lease. Scheduled the last service for the 27th. I've put just over 500 miles on it in the last month.
Also got the XM renewal in the mail. No plans to do anything about it with such little time left.
I'm thinking I could do something on the 27th, with permission. Sonata Sport?
august 27th? Only a few months early, so they would probably pull you forward. Just have the conversation with the wife to make sure you are not going to try and go carless for a while in between. if not, makes no difference if you do it now or in 2 months with them eating the last payments.
Sport with tech is a really nicely equipped package, if you aren't interested in a moonroof.
No heated seats, no folding rear seats, then there's this, which, combined with the awful aftermarket stereo, indicates a clueless owner:
I love the exterior color. Not sure how I feel about the grey leather.
I would never buy a car from a private party who didn't know which wheels were driven and/or couldn't tell the difference between an I6 and a V6- I refuse to deal with complete idiots.

Lease ends 11/7, so just under three months. Two more payments.
Talked with the wife again - the more she thinks about it, the more she's disinclined to share a car. Works for me!
Wonder if I can get her to go to the dealer with me to scope out the Sonata?
my wife was not that enthused the last time we did it either. She would not make a big deal about it, and maybe now (with no kids) it would be easier. But, would probably get old quick.
plus, you have a real job again. No reason not to have a car! And does she really need to see something like that? What isn't there to like about it? Has to be better than the E GT for her!
Not like a Sonata right now is going to cost much to lease. But, you know that.
took a look. Nice discounts. This is well equipped (though not the colors I would pick). I imagine it leases out well! No tech package, but if you have an android phone, at least get maps that way (has Android auto, but not Apple car play)
Anyone else interested in the new Civic Hatch? Looks like they just released some info yesterday. Seems that will be the model they "kick off" the availability of the six-speed manual with the turbo engine. A "Sport" model will be available with 180 hp. Which sounds fun, but also seems to indicate that the Si will be limited to the sedan and coupe, with the "hot hatch" reserved for the Type R.
Given the current turbo model seems to perform about as well as the previous Si, this "sport" hatch seems pretty cool.
I hope Honda has spent some time and energy on their dual clutch transmission, and provides it on the Civic. I know they've used it on the Acura line finally (at least in compromised form with a torque converter to assist in power zapping smoothness). ....

Lots of VW and Audi love on these boards. Only two American cars. Wow.
Here's another: 2016 Malibu Premier. Smooth and quick with the 2.0 turbo & lots of tech. Wife's lease.
ooohhhh...nice Malibu Greg. Congrats. I have a "hopped up" version of that 2.0T motor in my CTS. I love these torquey 4 cyl turbo motors out today. And, the one in your 'Bu is one of the best.
These have been catching my eye whenever I see them on the road. Good choice.
Not sure what MPG you're getting, but with 7K miles on my Caddy, I'm averageing 23-24 MPG in mixed driving, and 28-29 MPG on the highway. That's burning premium, though and I keep my foot in it.
I'm happy with that.
The Malibu is an almost totally around town car getting 20-21 mpg. It continually gives you the average for the previous 50 miles. There was one 50 mile period with mostly highway driving which averaged 33MPG which I thought was pretty good.
I never thought that I would like a 4 cyl car but this 2.0T is pretty sweet. Maximum 258 ft/lb of torque is available from 1700 RPM all the way almost to redline. The result is pretty much effortless acceleration in any situation with the 8 speed transmission downshifting readily when prompted. My wife's previous Saturn XR with the 3.6 motor was probably as quick but didn't feel it probably because the torque peak for that engine was around 3500 RPM and the 6 speed transmission didn't like to downshift.
I am also impressed by the smooth character of the engine even at idle. It is hard to tell it is running from inside and it is very quiet from the outside. My limited experience with 4 cyl cars always left me with the impression of them being "buzzy". I guess these small turbos are the engines of the future and I agree they are nice.....but I don't think their long term durability will be known for a few years
The first 2.0T in a mainstream car I remember is on my beloved '06 A3. Did anyone beat Audi/VW to the punch on 2 Liter Turbocharged motors? I mentioned mainstream because I believe that'll eliminate the Evos and WRX STI's..

Yeah, not sure I can see myself in a black car. And, you've picked a dealer way on the other side of town from me.
I think about including the wife as she might be inclined to drive it from time to time - if I'm not delivering pizza in it, it won't smell like pizza in the car. But, she may not for the same reasons she doesn't like me driving her car - moving the seats and mirrors, changing the radio stations, etc.
I'm still thinking about a Jetta, however - a Sport or 1.4 SE with connectivity would fill the bill nicely. Gotta start looking at how much inventory there is ...
Good thing I still have 15 months to go, since within the last week, the short list has revised again. As of today, the 2 piquing my interest are the Ioniq, and Civic hatch EX stickshift. Neither of which was a twinkle a week ago!

Oh boy - we have about the same number of months left on the Sedona lease...and we're at 27k miles.
And it's not even anyone's daily driver, though it gets heavy weekend and road trip use.
Yep, without sport seats, doubt I'd want that X1. Have a feeling the Tiguan is a few inches smaller in length which is preferable. I was really pleased with the acceleration on the 2015 model I drove yesterday. Had just over 38K on it and no turbo lag at all, something my Golf does suffer from some of the time. Not always but sometimes there's that nano second of lugging and then I'm gone. At first thought it was the petrol I was using so tried a couple tankfuls of premium...didn't solve this issue so went back to 87 octane. Would definitely not mind the 2.0t engine though there is the mileage penalty. And getting the Golf, the improved mpg's was a selling point when I told my wife I was swapping vehicles. While working and driving like I do, might be prudent to wait until I retire again to get a Tiguan. By then, think the new model might be out and if not, could just get a CPO'd 2017. See that my local VW sore has a 2016 Tiguan R-Line with 8305 miles on it. Silver over black which ain't that bad but would prefer blue over beige though. Since I'm n/s today, might mosey over there and take a test drive and maybe price out what they'd give me for the Golf. Besides the cracked fog lamp and a almost invisible scratch on the driver rear door, this rig is spotless and in excellent shape. Also should stop in at CarMax just to get an estimate on trading it to them. Since Florida is one that gives a tax advantage when trading in, would need the CarMax estimate to take this additional amount into play. Something to think about. A rainy day here so might not be a lot of traffic at these car places. Also, if I did swap vehicles, am sure my oldest would take me in as I know the wife would probably have my bags packed when I got home...lol!!!

Then there's the Mazda6 Touring manual, a newly facelifted Accord Sport, the Civic Coupe sure is sharp, a used GLI or GTI, the Jetta as you pointed out....
Looking back, wish I had gotten the Lighting Package as they do look pretty cool. Too bad my timing was off because buying last December would've been the sweet time to buy, just after the litigation became known. Have always said that life is all about timing! It's kind of funny in here. We all get our new ride and are happy, for awhile. But we're still always looking for the next purchase no matter how happy we are. Just like my cell phone, after a couple of years, I want a newer, better one just because I do. No logical reason and most times, it ain't financially prudent either. But we want what we want, when we want it. My being married to a CPA and a few members in here also in the profession, we all know that switching frequently is a bad financial move especially on a depreciating asset. But that makes no difference to that part of the brain that likes pleasure. We all get immense pleasure when we start the search which culminates with the new purchase, be it used or brand new, that pleasure and excitement is what it's all about. Logic goes out the window when we find that perfect vehicle, or cell phone or whatever. We just throw logic out the window! But that's o k as long as this behavior doesn't become a negative financial situation. Luckily, we're all smart enough to say enough, at least for awhile. But, it sure is fun when all the planets align and we are handed the keys to the new rig! I would call it "orgasmic" but not sure we're allowed to use that term...lol!!! But hey, y'all know exactly what I'm trying to say here!!!

Both are nice - as are the other suggestions you've made (Civic Coupe, 6 Touring stick).
I'm likely to lease again and keep the payment around $250-275/mo (with 8% tax). Given where I am with the Elantra (over about 3800 miles, damage to the rear bumper, 2 payments left), there is a lot to bring forward into the next lease.
Which, unfortunately, leads me to believe I'll get another Hyundai. Maybe a Jetta, if the terms are favorable.
Rear view camera, XM, and heated front seats. Using their prices, I get about $208/mo with tax, before adding in any of the charges from the E-GT. For 12,000 miles per year, which ought to be plenty if I'm not delivering.
Of course, every Jetta left at this dealer is Black, Silver or Grey.
Unfortunately I think we may have to hold onto our Escape - wife seems pretty adamant that the A3 will not meet our needs long-term. So, for now, I'm tooling around in it alternating with the GTI and it'll go back in December/January.

Just enjoy it while you have it then. Think we'd all like to be in this same situation to be honest. Personally, I wish I had a 7 car garage so I'd have one for every day of the week. Having just one is not that much fun, think having an extra one, preferably a convertible, would just be ideal. Tried to do this a few years back but all the pieces just didn't fit. Found what I could live with for a few years while keeping the Civic was the plan, keep the miles to a minimum on it and drive the convertible much of the time. It would've meant parking one outside all the time and the wife just couldn't see past that. I thought it was definitely doable but again, she nixed the idea. When the kids are here, we just move the vehicle(s) when necessary and it ain't no big deal, at least to me. My thinking would've me still having the Civic today and eventually trading both in at a later date. Still have the idea in the back of my mind and maybe one day, I'll find the perfect vehicle that she can't say no to!

Jetta is a good value for that price. But I like the GTIs better. If I was buying now, an SE like that, would be too good to pass up. I want that, even with black guts. Will give me incentive to stay on a diet, so I could fit in between the bolsters, not perched on top.
Are all people that buy GTIs built like Kenyan marathon runners? Or just fans of Victorian corsets?

Fit very well in the Golf seats but I'm not that big to begin with. Always sit on my special Relax The Back store cushion in my vehicle and if going on a longish trip in the A3, take it along. At work, sometimes only in a vehicle for 5 minutes with the average time being about 20 minutes. Last weeks trip to Ft. Myers was very unexpected and few and far between now. Something I truly do miss is those trips around the state and from what I hear, both companies I worked for are basically out of the business now. I know Hertz is using more trailer trucks to move their iron where it needs to go. Not sure why but must be financial, like many major decisions businesses make. But I must admit, those first few months I was doing it back in early 2013, we were extremely busy with many weeks working all seven days. Sure do miss them days!!

Ahh yess, the Saab 2.0T. I remember test driving that before I got the A3 in '06. GM must of been using the same 70's engine technology in 2006 because it didn't seem competitive; lots of lag. Lag was even worse in the 2.5T in the Volvo V50 which I liked the looks of actually. I think Volvo called their hot rod at the time (a version of the S60) an S60R? Really liked the seats in those. Volvo had some serious black dots in CR which eliminated them from further consideration either way. I think Ford had rubbed off on them at the time.
I might like a used S60R as my daily driver if any have survived (and don't have all black dots); only the fuel economy wasn't great if I recall.

Well, I had to google dealers, and they came up first. Just a random sample!
Get a limited. Memory everything. A must if you share.
Jettas do drive nice. Smaller, and much different feel. Depends really on what you like and want. They do get great MPG though
Memory seats..... the S4 had it, the TTS doesn't. Cost-cutting engineers must have won that argument to increase the profit margins. I wish the new car also had it, I miss it, but I'm not sure I'd pay more than $250 for it.

Poking around, some pretty strong offers near me too. I like this one. Not sure what the heck an autobahn adds, but this seems loaded. And like it in white.
I don't like it one bit to be honest, quite annoying when it happens. That's the only issue I have with the 1.8t engine. When I drive the Jetta's at work, mostly "S" models, don't feel the same turbo lag so assuming they have a different engine. I didn't notice any lag in the Tiguan yesterday which was a pleasant surprise...guess one gives up some mpg's to get a smoother transition between gears, something I could live with very easily. Interior size wise, the Tiguan didn't feel that much bigger than the Golf and even very similar to the Tucson, something I could live with. Figuring the Tiguan is around 174.5" in length, about 6 or so inches larger than the Golf. And that should fit nicely in our garage. If I do go for a test drive, wil just swing over to the casa and drive it right in and actually see. Did it on the Jetta and Golf, and most of the other vehicles we've bought since living here. A simple exercise so we don't purchase a vehicle that won't fit in the garage as we'd just return it for another model. Very easy peasy!

@michaell Bite the bullet and pay your penalties on the current lease and start over. Otherwise, you are getting something you might not really want, or passing up a good deal, with another brand.
Leasing a certain car, just so you can roll over negative equity is not a path to success in car ownership (or leasing).

Generally agree unless the manufacturer is offering specific incentives to forgive (vs. bury) that amount.

Good advice. I'm still in no rush, however. Last payment due on 10/7, lease ends on 11/6.
If I stick it out to the end of the lease, I've got maybe $1K of mileage charges and another $700 or so of damage (which I'd like to get repaired sooner; the wife disagrees). Plus the disposition charge if I turn it in and walk away.
I'll talk to the Hyundai dealership when I go in for service; I know they won't be beat, price-wise, on any deal. The real question is how much of the extra costs they'll be willing to forgive if I lease from them again.
Yeah, and I heard a few weeks ago the number of people in the U.S. with IQs lower than 80. It was many tens of millions, and they can all vote. Explains a lot.

The Jetta will definitely be interesting to test out - I think that will give a flavor distinct from your other choices, for better or worse.
McDonald VW has been great to work with for us - we purchased our first GTI from there and leased my Passat and the Jetta Sport from there. They're the ones who matched my numbers on the Jetta Sport when Emich rejected it without even countering.
Who else can't stand it when they hear the term "rapid rate of speed" or "high rate of speed".
Rate of speed = acceleration. So rapid rate of speed equals rapid acceleration. But that's not the common usage of the term. Arrrrgh. The pet peeves of an engineer are never-ending!
Yeah, and I heard a few weeks ago the number of people in the U.S. with IQs lower than 80. It was many tens of millions, and they can all vote. Explains a lot.
Below 80 is a pretty bad deal of the cards. I'd like to test all the poor people who do double and triple folds of negative equity into new loans. I can't believe some of the bad deals I read about.
Dear canadien pinhead, your implication that less-intelligent-people are not as qualified to vote as more-intelligent-people is false, unconstitutional, and just plain wrong on every level.
Probably best to invoke a "no Politics" rule for the board. Especially this year!
back to cars, which frankly, is all that really matters.
I suspect that selling the wife on a GTI is not going to be easy. Probably the same with any small, overtly sporty car. But, I can probably do it if I try. Or will just bring something home, and yell "surprise!"
I got a laugh out of her when I described the benefits of leasing another car from the same manufacturer. She said to get another Sonata, because it is a nice car and she likes it (and seems happy with the size of it). But really, getting the same thing a 2nd time, when there were no real changes? Sacrilege.

Sacrilege.
I sort of feel the same way about the same brand. Though, lots of new features and updates since 2013, for sure. I enjoyed my test drive of the Sonata Sport. Would like to test drive the Jetta 1.4T SE, just to compare.
As @breld notes, I suspect it will be a very different feel.

I just looked it up. Non sport seats. Bummer
I drove a 2016 today. Did drive nice. That 2.0 motor was really sweet. and it had the sport seats (as did the 2 series I sat in while I was there). Yeah, that is a must have, and probably pretty rare on an X1

Also got the XM renewal in the mail. No plans to do anything about it with such little time left.
I'm thinking I could do something on the 27th, with permission. Sonata Sport?

Talked with the wife again - the more she thinks about it, the more she's disinclined to share a car. Works for me!
Wonder if I can get her to go to the dealer with me to scope out the Sonata?

plus, you have a real job again.

Also could be he had his GF or wife do the posting for him..... I'd at least give them a phone call to verify the idiocy or discount it to typos; easy to do in a 2 minute phone conversation.

Get a limited. Memory everything. A must if you share.
Jettas do drive nice. Smaller, and much different feel. Depends really on what you like and want. They do get great MPG though

In spite of that, I would also like one. I came very close once upon a time, but chose the G35X for its better reliability.
My S70 T5 had huge turbo lag, but I still loved the car.

Leasing a certain car, just so you can roll over negative equity is not a path to success in car ownership (or leasing).

McDonald VW has been great to work with for us - we purchased our first GTI from there and leased my Passat and the Jetta Sport from there. They're the ones who matched my numbers on the Jetta Sport when Emich rejected it without even countering.

Rate of speed = acceleration.
So rapid rate of speed equals rapid acceleration. But that's not the common usage of the term.
Arrrrgh. The pet peeves of an engineer are never-ending!

back to cars, which frankly, is all that really matters.
I suspect that selling the wife on a GTI is not going to be easy. Probably the same with any small, overtly sporty car. But, I can probably do it if I try. Or will just bring something home, and yell "surprise!"
