You know when you complained about the lack of zip in the Legacy I thought to myself, that's never gonna get better. If something bugs you about a car, it gets magnified over time. I drove a Nissan Altima once. The whine of the CVT was really noticeable. Someone said, "You'll get used to it." At first I thought, "Maybe so." But then I realized I would always hate it. Hope you are happily revving this one!
I always liked the overall package. Plus pretty bullet proof and very long lasting. Only real downside has always been that they are thirsty. Small price to pay!
Congrats @nyccarguy! I think your experience, along with Q's recently EX purchase, has opened some of our eyes to these models. I have to admit in my mind, the G37 had seemed a bit antiquated and perhaps unnecessarily "drawn out" with the Q40.
But based on your description and experience, it really seems like such a gem. @michaell, @jpp5862 and I were talking about it at lunch on Friday - it's sort of like how many of us "long" for the older BMWs like the E90, E46 and E39. The G37/Q40 sort of captures some of that more classic sport sedan feel that has been lost to various extents with the current crop.
Can't argue with what you get for the money. What was it? Low $20k's? For a luxury make, AWD sports sedan with 300 hp and an excellent reliability record. Oh...and barely used at all? Love it!
This evening I took delivery of a CPO Infiniti Q40 AWD Obsidian Black with a Black Interior 7,468 miles on the odometer
Thank-you all for your help and support! I simply love the car! It is very handsomely styled. The chrome accents compliment the black exterior nicely. I keep looking back at it in the driveway.
Delivery was quick and easy. Sign a few DMV forms with the salesman, went to take a look at the car outside. The car is fantastic. Inside and out. We go back in. Chat in his office for a few minutes and then it is off to meet "the business manager." I politely declined the paint sealant, tire & wheel insurance, prepaid maintenance, & extended warranty. Afterwards, the finance guy said I'm going to love the car. He leased 4 of them himself and loved them.
Infiniti's CPO warranty doesn't seem to be as comprehensive as some other luxury car makes. Since my car has less than 15,000 miles, the CPO warranty gives me 6 years or 75K miles of coverage from the original in service date. The remainder of the factory 4 year 60K warranty is in effect until October 2018. Then I get an additional 2 years of power train coverage or until I hit 75K miles. Hopefully I won't have to use any of it.
Now the good part. The car drives phenomenally. Hydraulic power steering is perfectly weighted. Handling is crisp and balanced. The ride is taut, well controlled, smooth, and solid. I love the cockpit like interior. The power is incredible. This is the 1st car I've ever owned with over 300 hp. It is wonderful to have so much power under the hood.
Some random numbers:
3/27 - the day I took delivery of my Infiniti 4/27 - the day I took delivery of my Prelude back in 2002 427 - the big block under the hood of my Dad's corvette. 327 - the size of the small block offered in most C2 Corvettes like my Dad's 328 - The horsepower my Infiniti's 3.7L V6 pumps out 328 - the model BMW I leased before I bought my Subaru 30 - the months I owned my 2010 Acura TSX, leased my 2011 BMW 328xi, & owned my 2015 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Premium. 7,468 - the amount of miles put on my Infiniti before I took delivery. 47,656 - the amount of miles I put on my Legacy in the past 2 1/2 years
Enough blabbering, here are a few quick pics I snapped:
Wow, going over your numbers, you pretty much followed in my footsteps with the length of your ownership period (and miles driven) with your Legacy as I did with my S4. Granted, I never had to complain about the horsepower of my S4 (or lack thereof in the Legacy). Also, your Legacy never suffered a crash.

I always thought the G37/Q40 line was the perfect mix of sport and luxury.
I'd agree those cars are competitive. I really had to nitpick at the negatives on them. Mainly little things and details that they cost-cut and skimp on, which matter when your looking at a brand new car with a printed sticker price. However, in the used/CPO market, they matter little or not at all as the car has appropriately depreciated already.
I think anyone that has ever been in the sport sedan market in the last decade has test driven these cars, and knows they are a complete package.

Isn't it nice driving a lighter car around?
It is hard to define, but it just seems "easier" and more fun to drive it spiritedly. Not to mention easier on the brake pads and front tires as well (all 4 tires to be honest).
And the S4 was only around 3800 pounds depending on who you ask. Every 50 lbs makes a difference, and unsprung weight reduction is about 5X more noticeable.
Now.... this driver could help the car out by losing 20 pounds on the driver's seat when driven.

just watch out for the Mounties. The speed in that car is going to sneak up on you big time.
I really need to go take one of these puppies for a test drive.
I remember an owner/client asking me about my S4 when it was new-ish. He said he had owned a G35 and that it was so nice cruising down the freeway at 130 MPH, and feeling completely safe and stable at that speed.
I acknowledged that not only was the S4 stable at that speed, but that it would get to it in a hurry.

You got a car with a lot of warranty and barely any miles, for about 18k off original MSRP, and about what you would pay for a decently equipped sonata, or civic EXL. I think it was a fine deal.
Or, another way to look at good deal. Flipped a battered, 40k miles strippo legacy for it and only cost 10k to do it. Original sticker delta was at least 15k. Add another 3k for miles.
This my friend was playing the depreciation game like a maestro!

I completely agree with you @breld. The car is built on an older platform using a bloodthirsty V6 engine. Not the greatest thing when you are competing for monthly lease dollars for the people who "want it all" as far as fuel efficiency, tech, & performance go with the likes of BMW, MB, Audi, & even Acura. It is also difficult to justify the sticker price of over $40K (even if they are being heavily discounted). Some people I'm sure even got sick of leasing the exact same car for 42 months, 36 months, 24 months, then 18 months. Even the name change for 1 MY when everybody knows the car as the G35X/G37X is just plain stupid.
Gem is the right word to describe my car. For $24,500 I got a high revving V6 that pumps out 328 hp/269 lb ft of torque, AWD sedan with good old hydraulic power steering. The platform, engine, & transmission combination were in production for quite a few years which in my mind transmits into an excellent record for reliability. They even kept the 3.7L V6/7 Speed Automatic in service for 2 years with the Q50 while they developed their turbocharged V6 motors. Buying new, you can get a GTI Sport DSG or WRX Premium CVT for about $30K. BMW dealers seem to ask for the king's ransom for their CPO Elite cars which have less than 15K miles on the odometer.
I know you are always looking to creatively update your fleet while maintaining some sense of financial responsibility. I went CPO because it was my 1st time dipping into the used market for my daily driver. Infiniti's CPO program isn't that great compared to MB, BMW, & Lexus as they really only give you power train coverage once the factory bumper to bumper warranty expires. As we all know, this car was the same for many years. There have got to be some examples out there for about $20K with more miles than mine, but not a TON more than average.

It is more than sheer weight, though. My G35X at 3700 lbs felt far heavier than my 3950 lb CTS. I would also wager almost any 3500-lb vehicle from this decade would feels worlds lighter than a 3500-lb lump of '70s American pig iron. Modern and sophisticated suspensions are a wondrous thing.

I'll admit it - I really dig this E30. It's all the money, but the condition doesn't disappoint.
You can do a lot better than that. E30 convertibles are cheap and plentiful. I'd hold out for a 325i.
If you want an iS coupe, that's a different matter.
You are right, of course. What struck me here was how unusual it was for a US car- cloth interior w/heated sport seats, hardtop with that weird roof rack, manual, the ice blue color, etc. I can't remember seeing an E30 without leather or leatherette. Anyhow, it looks like someone took care of it.

Two quick thoughts: IIRC you purchased an extended warranty on the Legacy. You should be entitled to a prorated refund on the time/mileage that is remaining. You may need to go thru the dealer to submit the request.
Now that winter is done (fingers crossed) take some time and find some used G37/Q40 rims to mount your new snow tires. Then you don't damage or upset the balance of your OE tires.
Enjoy but don't get any blue light specials!

It's likely that the pro-rated unused portion of the warranty was used to reduce the payoff value; no refund likely.
