interesting paint job on that. Looks OK to me, if you are into attracting attention to yourself!
I saw this one on the site. I like it. But mostly wanted to point out one of the incentives included; "low credit score incentive $1,500". Wow. I thought people with bad credit, paid more! I guess that is to offset the higher interest rate?
The Explorer I drove today was quite the large beast but the seats sure were comfortable. Drove very nicely, smooth with seamless shifts but it felt big, truck big! Think after a few days, the excitement might wear off and then the reality of feeding the beast would be very unsettling. Would go with either the Edge or Escape but for the money, gotta be the Edge. It's like the right size for everything, and if buying a Ford floats your boat, easy decision. The new Nissan Rogue Sport is something I want to try since I really do like the Rogue, even the base model we have at Hertz. Just does everything right and the Sport is supposed to be just a bit longer than my Golf. Great size, nice vehicle. But then we have the Buick Encore, another smaller vehicle that finally hits all the buttons with the 2017 refresh. That goofy infotainment center is now integrated into the dash properly and the new front and rear fascia isn't half bad. Saw one at the Buick store earlier today and I was drawn to it. One that I saw had really nice alloys that really complimented the whole vehicle nicely. Only problem with the Encore and Edge is that they're domestics and not yet willing to put my $ down on any domestic to be honest. The Rogue Sport has been added to the short list. If the changes on the new Golf are nice enough, would put it on the short list to. Saw a pic of the new Jetta dashboard I think and liked it. The infotainment system looked to be more spread out and fit the dash better than my current one. Still a VW fan here.

I've sat in the Explorer, but haven't driven one. I need to start getting to dealers... Dec isn't far off and I need to replace the Enclave right after Christmas!
Oh, and I know I've flip flopped on sedan vs SUV. The Enclave will definitely be replaced with another large 3 row SUV. Wife really wants another one and I have to say it was convenient this weekend being able to move a loveseat and chair from our house to me SIL's.
Short list as of right now: 2018 Traverse or Enclave Explorer Pilot Santa Fe (the bigger one)
QX60 is nice, but no Captain's chairs MDX too, but Captain's only on fully decked out Advance model and even so has a huge console between them.
The pilot is nice, but I really like the bigger Santa Fe. At least it is slightly unique!
@sandman_6472 hear you on all of that and I don't evan drive just sitting next to sum one test driving sum thing no if it is the one or not and fealing all serfaces things like that. injoy it a lot car crazy hear big time.
All will be revealed once the deal is done. Still working out the details. Hint: It's not intended to be a second car and I will be planning on selling the Murano.
Ms. Pensfan has her say but as long as it can carry little man, her, the dog, and myself she has no preference. I know she would like me to have a car she can drive too and why I've opened the options to more than just another manual A4.

$50k for a v6? Yikes! Unfortunately yes. For the options I want thats whay I'm looking at no matter the trim. Add $3K for the Hemi. Steeper price of entry than I thought.
1997 Honda Prelude Base - 2022 Acura MDX Type S Advance - 2021 Honda Passport Sport - 2006 BMW 330Ci ZHP
@pensfan83 - they discount the daylights out of those suckers. A friend of mine recently leased a V6 JGC Overland for $478 per month including tax & 20K per year for 36 months.
2001 Prelude Type SH, 2022 Highlander XLE AWD, 2023 Toyota Tacoma SR 4WD, 2025 Toyota Camry SE AWD
A Jeep (except perhaps the Wrangler) does seem to be a great candidate for a lightly used buy.
@corvette - anxiously awaiting! Yup, negative equity is all too easy to deal with much of the time. So replacing the Murano with something that's not a second car, so must be functional, but something that you're enthusiastic about. Hmmm...
@sandman_6472 - Mrs. Breld pretty much lets me do whatever I want when it comes to cars (as I allow her to as well), which I'm immensely appreciative of, though it probably wouldn't hurt to have a voice of reason here and there.
My wife lets me do whatever for my car, though appreciates being able to give input. She knows I am too cheap to go too far off the rails. Or at least spend much doing it.
She might not love that 2013 mini S I found, but would just roll her eyes and live with it.

That's what @jpp5862 and I are for - sanity check!
Left to your own devices, you'd have 12 cars and live in a studio apartment.
I was dead set on getting one of these to replace my '90 Civic Si when I was graduating college (not in Teal though ). I ended up going with the Prelude instead, which was probably a good choice.
Still, as unloved as these Del Sols were, I still have a soft spot for them. If this were not Teal, I may be more interested. Or if it was the VTEC model, I'd also be more inclined. And last but not least, there's about a 100% markup over dealer retail on this one. It's a rare find, but not all that coveted - a '90 or '91 CRX Si with those miles? They could probably get close to their asking price. But not the lowly Del Sol.
By the way, I'm packing up the Durango tonight to head down to Albuquerque with my older son tomorrow for a baseball tournament. Looking forward to a road trip!

yes but it has a "high power 20W cassette player"!
I'd appraise it at $2500-#3000 clean driver, $4500--5,000 absolutely mint.
My son's '95 M3 with a low, low 224K miles, seems to have survived the overheating episode. New belts, pulley, thermostat, radiator cap and coolant.. He's put a couple hundred miles on it since, with no ill effects.

About $625 including the over-mileage tow from AAA. My guy only charges $75/hr for labor, and he is pretty generous with his time. He said it took forever to get the air out of the cooling system. Then, drove it for 30 minutes after the repair. Later, took the car to get lunch. Then, let it idle for 45 minutes, to make sure there were no issues. He is the shop owner, and a great guy. (plus, walking distance from my house!)

That's amazing across the board. Labor like that here in seattle would be $100+/hr and I'm sure they would not be as generous with their time.

Agreed! Having someone like that makes it much easier to own an older BMW.

Yes, I really like the Santa Fe too. I also know it will lease out cheaper than the Pilot. MF's are equaling 4.8% right now. Honda has a hit and they know it. Won't make any decision until the new Traverse and Enclave start hitting the lots. Both look really nice, but I know the wife is going to think they are too "boxy".

Yeah... we'd already had the discussion. Immediately is evidently open to interpretation.
...My question to all you guys who have spouses, are they always on board when you do purchase something new or just different? I know you single folks don't have to clear large expenditures with anyone else. But us married folk most times do, even if we're spending personal funds and not joint monies. I know how mine reacts and it's always the same. The questions days , weeks and even months afterwards. But just curious if other households are the same. Not all husbands and wives are on the same wave length when it comes to spending money...and on what. Those can be interesting conversations, very interesting!!!
The Sandman
I've been married over 35 years, and I don't understand the concept of "personal money" vs "joint monies". Wife and I have never had a money argument. I guess we're on the same page for spending - live below your means. However, if I want a new car, she's not going to tell me no, as she knows I will have analyzed it to death. Same with her, which is why her car was 16 years old when she got a new one.
Pretty sure a divorce court would scoff at the concept of "personal money".
Pretty sure a divorce court would scoff at the concept of "personal money".
It probably wouldn't if there is a prenup that says each spouse keeps their own accounts and waives the right to money kept in the other spouse's name. I'm a big fan of prenups!
Well, made it up to this dealership to check out the Del Sol.
Overall it's in great condition given its age, but not nearly in any sort of "mint" condition. The interior condition actually comes close - in fact, it's about as good as I would ever expect. No rips or abnormally worn spots in the seats, no cracks in the dash, a/c works well, but I didn't try the cassette.
Exterior has several dings and some fairly minor blemishes on a couple corners of the bumpers. Again, nothing all that bad. The dings could be taken care of easily, and I imagine the blemishes could be worked on too without actual body shop work. Even as is, it's a good example for the year.
It was a pretty short test drive, but it ran nicely and shifted great. Took it up to its redline, which I believe was 7k or so - that was fun. Certainly not a particularly quick car, but I didn't expect it to be. I believe these had 130 hp or so?
In all honesty, if it was blue, or maybe black, I'd be more interested. As it is, I still am interested - not too many 65k one-owner Hondas like this around. I spoke briefly with the manager and said I'd think about it, but one of the main obstacles is their pricing. He claimed to be open to the more reasonable KBB and NADA numbers, but I didn't want to get into any kind of offers without being sure I'd be a buyer at the right price (and said as much).
I think I'd go for it at something around $3,500 'cause, "why not?" At their ridiculous listed price of $9k, doubt they're thinking of going that low yet. But given the audience for that car, I also doubt they'll get any offer much above $4-5k.
My assistant from when I was working bought one of these as a commuter car. She ended up not keeping it very long. The cool factor waned rather quickly when she found herself feeling vulnerable in traffic and running head-on into the impracticality of a 2-seater.
Pretty sure a divorce court would scoff at the concept of "personal money".
It probably wouldn't if there is a prenup that says each spouse keeps their own accounts and waives the right to money kept in the other spouse's name. I'm a big fan of prenups!
You're right. With a prenup, it's a completely different kettle of fish.

God, I wish I could find someone like that around here. Glad to hear it turned out well.
What's going on in here? It's like a flu or something that's going around, this buying new vehicles flu. Must be that time of year where folks are just wanting a change in what they're driving, just because they can. But, I'm avoiding this with all my might because I just am not ready to make a move. Am really happy for all the guys that are buying but unless I win the lottery or something happens to the Golf, I'll just enjoy reading about the rest of the forum's new rides. But, still reserve the right to follow suit just in case that ton of bricks falls on me to, to scratch that itch if it gets to me...if I catch this new car flu! Have already let the wife know that though I'm not actively looking, and honestly, I'm not, to not be too surprised that within the next few months, I pull the trigger on something a bit nicer than my Golf. Just so she doesn't go batshit crazy on me if in fact this does happen. My question to all you guys who have spouses, are they always on board when you do purchase something new or just different? My wife likes spending money all the time, in little pieces and parts for trinkets and purses, and shoes, and clothing, and whatever else.
I prefer saving money, and then spending large amounts (hopefully more rarely than regularly! ) on quality items that are the good stuff in life.
So I have no problem dropping top dollar on a top-notch home audio and home theater system component that I'll enjoy for years, maybe a decade or more if well built (same with cars!). I don't like spending money on cheap items that'll have to be replaced frequently.
Lately, it seems belts (for your pants, not your car) are not made the way they used to be, although maybe being over 200 pounds has something to do with that. I am 6'3" though.

I read somewhere that the percentage of car loans that are sub prime is getting a bit scary.
Good time to invest in a REPO business and reality show then? How much does a flat bed tow truck cost? Maybe a better option than working for Uber or Lyft.

Prefer the 2nd Jeep as that red screams "RED", would prefer a toned down red to be honest. Think that would wear better myself but it ain't gonna be mine. Get what color you like best and remember, this ain't no lifetime commitment, one can always trade out at some future date. At our age, early to mid 60's, if we don't start treating ourselves to some nice things now, might not be around to ever do it. Have seen it too often and in my family even where death has come before the "gifts" were finally given to the beneficiaries and those left behind get use of it all. And though I want to leave my kids a little bit, there's no rule that says we have to leave anything. So, enjoy it now, when you can. And never, ever look back! Ever since I turned 62, that's been my new mantra on life. Have seen my dad, and two siblings die too early, too early to enjoy what they worked so hard to get, never to enjoy the fruits of their labor so to speak. I decided back in November that that's not going to happen to me. I don't go hog wild, but if I want something and can afford it, I get it. And don't have to ask for permission, something else which is wonderful after all those years of saving and paying for all the kids stuff that they need. mine are all on their own, a couple making more than I do. For that I'm thrilled, honestly. Now, it's out time, our turn to just have some affordable fun!!!
I am, The Sandman
One of my internal brain arguments justifying my first Audi purchase wasn't so much being dead before I enjoy the fruits of my labor, but still having the fast reflexes to take advantage of all the driving dynamics such a car offers.

I prefer saving money, and then spending large amounts (hopefully more rarely than regularly!
SUV prices have gone off the deep end. Even lifted wagons (er... I mean crossovers) sell for high stickers.
