It would operate in hybrid mode the rest of the time. My primary errands each day are within 3 miles round trip of my house.

Also, it would be about 40% less costwise on a lease than a comparable Volt.

Looking at one of my local dealers websites, cap costs on the 330e are running $12k or so below MSRP? And residuals are 61% for 12k/36? Go for it!

I would be targeting a demo. I’m eligible for 7500 in rebates and would be looking at a pretty significant dealer discount.  Plus the rates on a 24/10 lease are even better.

Nope; put the car in Battery Save mode and the car will charge itself. A Level 1 charger fully charges the battery in 6-7 hours. Plus, it's RWD and runs the quarter in the low fourteens. It's as close to tree-hugging as I want to get...

So what are we talking here? A $50k car? $38k cap cost and $30,500 residual? A little over $200/mo rent charge? That's absurd.

My closest dealer isn't showing anywhere near that. They want $4300 due at signing and $299*24mos plus tax and tags. $52k msrp

the i3 seems like a deal though. They show $4100 at signing and $99*24mos. And that is a model WITH range extender. $49k msrp

I never go by advertised deals, especially on demos. Demos are a BMW best kept secret, if you ask me. Takes a lot more work now that security deposits are gone, but can still be pretty great.

I like the i3 but isn't practical for us.

When I leased the 2011 Z4 service loaner, I had to scour the country for one that had the right combination of miles and a low purchase price. Most dealers had stupid asking prices ($5000 off a $55K MSRP with 11K miles), but I found two that really wanted to move the metal. (Labor Day, 2011).

Stupid high residuals, low CAP cost, MSDs.. $55K MSRP for 24/10. $335/mo, with $335 plus 7 MSDs out of pocket.

Cost me $150 to fly to Baltimore to get it. They picked me up at the airport at 1 pm. Left the dealership at 3 pm. Home by 11:30 pm.

One week later, my wife says she hates the car. Three weeks after that, I flipped it to her best friend on a lease transfer. $335/month!!

That's my best lease deal, to date.

28FF, if @breld isn’t going to step up before year end, the duty falls to you. No Pressure! ;)

I’ve always felt that the easier the deal, the better the deal. A guy that lives on my cul-de-sac bought a nice Toyota Sequoia (didn’t know they still make those). Quite nice.

He saw me driving down the street to finish up Christmas shopping last night and he stopped me to show me his new SUV. Said he was at the dealership all day Thursday and yesterday making a deal. I guess the snag was he wanted them to throw in a brush guard (understand, this thing will NEVER see anything but smooth pavement) and to have it installed before Christmas. The dealer dug in his heels on price and wasn’t budging. Plus, the time to get it installed just wasn’t available.

After two days of this, the dealer gave my neighbor a due bill for the brush gard at a 10% discount and installation after the NEw Year, but my neighbor was going to “ding” him on the survey because it was so hard to make a deal.

Sometimes customers are just difficult to work with. I rail on dealers who want to “grind” (and I refuse to deal with them). Sometimes, there are customers who will do the same (and knowing my neighbor, he’s one of them).

I find that for me, the easier the deal, the better I feel about the car afterwards. And the dealership too. I loved my 2013 Accord but there was always a slightly sour memory attached to it because of dealer shenanigans at the last minute.

My "favorite" grinder at my store was a well known TV personality who fought tooth and nail over $20/month on his wife's X3 lease. This after a salesperson and I spent over two hours helping said wife find the "right" vehicle in 96 degree weather the day before.

This stuff makes me insane. Especially when I’m helping friends. I have no interest in a transaction where folks feel disrespected. I like a great deal, but if I don’t think it’s doable as a deal where everyone leaves happy, I don’t even bother.

My wife and I had a very unpleasant experience when we bought our Scorpio in 1988; in retrospect we should have walked. Twenty-eight years later when Andy Mohr Ford jerked us around we did walk- and when they later emailed us offering to accept our number and deliver the car we didn't hesitate to tell them to forget it.

Been the wingman via phone with a buddy of mine working a deal on a 2017 Tucson.  Looks like we are a few hundred apart on the lease deal.  He is taking it home to the wife now for approval.  If she likes it, he is going on for the kill and hopes to take it home today.

Low MF and 3000 lease cash certainly help things for a decent payment.

Prefer the Sportage over the Tucson to be honest. Nicer dash layout, nicer tail light treatment and do like the front fascia. Kia has been bringing out some nice iron the last few years to be honest. Never have an issue driving any Kia/Hyundai product at work while other drivers hate 'em. All relative I guess!!

Buying the Mustang was a pretty easy deal. They had it priced attractively to begin with and offered a fair number on my trade-in. I asked for $1,000 off and they gave a few hundred, which was enough to meet the number I had in mind. I'd go to that dealer again if they had something I wanted.
  • tjc78tjc78 Member Posts: 17,247
I agree @Michaell nice looking little SUV.  I’d take it over my Mom’s RAV any day.

As for easy deals... the easiest I probably did was my current 2017 Enclave.   Dealer wanted to move a unit and I stood firm at what I wanted.  Couple of phone calls and a trip to pick it up.

My Jetta was pretty easy, as leases go. Since I had all the numbers, I could keep the dealer honest on their calculations.

And, the negotiations over the disposition of the Elantra GT was pretty straightforward - we figured, between the miles, the damage (rear bumper) and the two remaining payments, the total was about $2K. We split it, so $1K was added to the cap cost. Still put me at a payment that was less than the E-GT (about $3/mo, but still....)

I heard lots of owners of this current iteration were unhappy with the behavior of the transmission at least in the first model year, dunno if Hyundai improved it subsequently.

Re/ the front-end styling on the Sportage, I agree it looks odd. I thought Kia restyled it for the 2018 model year though?

Bradd, Congrats on the new Pilot! I look forward to learning your likes and hopefully few dislikes and how it compares to the old one. My wife and I had a similar discussion about 2 months ago whether to keep or trade our 2010. Because I was able to spread out some of the maintenance costs over the past year that made it easier. However if it should become a garage queen it will be replaced quickly. Enjoy!

A car dealer will grind you for that last $100. I'm not a grinder. If you meet my price, we'll have a deal. But, I won't feel sorry for you, for having to work outside when it's hot. ;)

Dealer and my buddy still a little  apart on the Tucson.  I am gonna call the salesperson I dealt with on the Elantra on Tuesday to see if she can do better, providing they have a 2017 he likes.

MSRP 30k we are at $1500 OOP $277 month.  I haven’t had a chance to look at all the #s but they aren’t marking up the MF and are discounting about 5K with the 3000 lease cash.   I didn’t like some of the fees they tacked on, so I still think he can get $250 or so all in.

Here’s one of the ads I’ve been looking at on the 330e. The discounted price of around $12k off MSRP and the residual make sense, but the payment (with $2750 down) doesn’t add up.

Acura dealer #1 didn't get serious until after I struck a deal with Acura dealer #2, which was disappointing because I was hoping to buy from dealer #1 based on their stellar reputation. When I walked that's when the SM got involved, undercutting the dealer I bought from by a few hundred dollars and as some of you may recall I hesitated because he sounded genuine in assuming blame for the numbers game and I can be a sucker for the nice guy routine.

I stayed true to the deal agreed upon and the dealer #2 has been great with follow through, offering a second delivery and stocking me with enough service coupons that I doubt I'll ever need to pay for an oil change. They were also the only dealer who didn't proclaim the A-Spec a limited edition model and price/negotiate as such. We exchanged numbers once and we were done. The icing on the cake was when they threw in a $500 TLX lease cash incentive that was pushed to dealers a few days before I picked the car up. They could have easily pocketed that money and I would never have known but they didn't and it was a pleasant surprise to go in the F&I office and see a payment $14 lower than what was expected.

Just did my first ride share with Lyft to the airport. Clean and comfortable CR-V. Quite convenient too.

While the airport is quite busy, I breezed through check in and security. Now cooling my heels at the airport getting a bite to eat before my flight. Silvercar has been texting me information for my arrival.
