The 2019 Jetta SE I had as a rental this week was nice enough, drove o k but the infotainment system sucked as it didn't have Sirius/XM or enough power. I have the Fender audio system in my Golf and it's so much better. Looked at my local stores inventory and no 2019 GLI's in stock as of yet. They have a mess load of Jetta's but none that I'd have the slightest interest in. Waiting to try a 2019 GLI DSG when they do get some in. Prefer the silver looking alloys and either white or silver. Depending how well it drives, I could break down and buy one if it's as fun to drive as I think it will be.

28FF, so sorry also. Sometimes, certain things aren't meant to be. We can't question why G-d does certain things much less understand them. Being a half full kind of guy, things will get better in time.
    Again, very sorry!!

Thanks guys. As @Sandman6472, we cannot know why things like this happen. But man if it isn't absolutely brutal. And as with everything, this too, shall pass.

Now that the season has basically ended here in South Florida, they're cutting us back to 24 hours. Doing 3 days at 8 hours/day and even though I asked to work another 1/2 day tomorrow, was turned down right away. Just was getting used to the 28 hours/week and the little bit of extra income.
Plan on filling out the application to be a shuttle driver at my VW store and also will drop by the Toyota store in the morning as the Indeed.com site still shows them advertising for a shuttle driver. Both are within 5 minutes from the house so that would be a welcome change. Might just be the right time to find something new and work till the end of 2020.

Saw a beautiful Mini Cooper Paceman on the road today and just sorry they don't make those anymore. Looks to be the perfect size vehicle for me. Has the hatch like I want and seems to be a little larger than the regular Mini Cooper. My timing always seems to be off!!

@Sandman6472 if you can afford it, just buy a car already. All you do is come on here and complain about your wife and daughters not buying what you want. If you hate the Golf so much, quit complaining and buy something else. Enough is enough.

    Hi folks,

Rough day over in 28FF land. Suffices to say, we will be putting off any larger family vehicles for a while. Things just didn’t work out.

Will be laying low for a while.

Ah, man. Condolences to your family, @28firefighter. Life is one helluva ride. :(

Sandy, the Jetta is too big for you. It is a full mid-size at this point, and definitely longer than your desired range..

Funny and reminiscent of Monty Python too. The argument sketch implied that there is (or should be) a clinic for everything including an argument, abuse or being hit on the head. *ding* "Thank you and good morning!"

VW group does great DSG; really much nicer in Macan than wifey's MB GLA
  • breldbreld Member Posts: 6,955
It does seem that VWs DSG's have gotten better over time. We've had it in an older Audi TT, an A3, a GTI, and now in the current A5. The trannie in the TT and A3 were annoying. The GTI (MK7) was better. And I don't find any fault in the execution in the current A5.

My 16's GTI was wonky at low speeds - like creeping in traffic. And then it's adaptations would make it up-shift to as high a gear as possible without wanting to downshift fast enough when pushed.

The only DSG I've ever owned was in the '13 Passat TDI. It was "wonky at low speeds - like creeping in traffic", but otherwise fine. I think, given my druthers, I would take a conventional automatic.

Ditto on the 2013 A3 TDI. But, only put 2500 miles on it.

Got the Thunderbird inspected this morning, good to go. And we drove it around afterwards for over an hour on a couple of highways going 7580 miles an hour, no issues car runs cool, and good. That’s what I needed for the longest time of sitting.

Same experience, but I still liked it... probably because it actually *felt* like it was shifting a manual transmission, and I just enjoy the familiarity of that sensation better than the muted feel of a TCT shift.
