Don’t know, but maybe I should run the Jetta again. Though the kid will need it for st least another 6-8 weeks.

I just got a Carvana offer for the Pilot as well. I'm at about $10,300 in positive equity.
    Got the itch? ?
Always. Plus I could put the $10K to very good use.
Yup - if I go ahead and push the final button for the Carvana sale I'll get a check for $15k. Paying down some other car debt and taking a little time to find that next fun car would be nice. And it's so much nicer to shop when you don't have to worry about a trade value.

Something like an M2 is still on the radar, but I've also given a lot of thought to getting back to something like a Civic Si or GTI. It may seem silly, but I find it less painful to trade something like the Supra than have it already sold and make a fresh purchase.

It’s the immediate gratification of getting a new car. Even seeing my TLX go away did that to me, since it left an empty space in the garage, but I knew I wasn’t filling it.

I am surprised though how easy it was to just have one car this long. Though I doubt it would have been without COVID. Definitely couldn’t do it if the wife wasn’t WFH too.

I'm still waiting to see the 928-homage CUV thing.

I received an offer for my 2015 TLX from Carvana as well, and they're offering $13.3K, which is surprising. Vroom was around $11.5K, and Carmax was around 12K. Not a bad offer for a vehicle I only paid $20K for that currently has 69K miles.

    ....more to come B)

Was thinking of doing a Carvana quote on the wagon just for SAG, but I am "out of market". I've seen crazy (dealer) asking prices for 3 year old CPO examples, far above my residual, that have me thinking what I will do in a year.

Carvana came back with $38,090 on the RDX. Payoff amount is $36,594 according to AFS but I need a little help figuring things out as I've never done this before. How does the tax figure into that payoff?

When I did the TLX the buyout on the web include tax (as if I was buying it) since it was a lease. You need to call and get the actual number for Carvana to pay them. I assume you have a lease? If you are financing no tax on the buyout.

Yep it's a lease. Followed instructions to another website and got a payoff that's good through 03/21, which is $36,979 and the Carvana quote is good through 03/19. So if I did do all of this right we'd walk away with about $1,100.

The MINI is at the dealer getting pretty much every fluid rotated, flushed, filled, whatever.

So the 36 was the dealer price? I don’t remember the exact details but I know what Carvana calculated didn’t match what I saw, so I called, and the AHFS rep explained the actual numbers, without tax.

Carvana has 11 Supras listed right now with 5 of those pending sale. They range from $47k on up to $55k (for a Launch Edition, which is sort of silly that it would command that premium).

Paying me $49k doesn't make sense. I can only think it has become a quick-selling "hot" car on their site and they feel they can raise the prices and still move them.

$36,979 was the price I got by plugging in information on the weblink AFS gave me, $36,594 is what shows on my account on AFS. Tax in PA is collected monthly as a percent, 10% for me, of the payment whereas NJ collects tax at lease inception where it can be capped or paid in full I believe.

It’s not the tax on the lease. If you ask them for a buyout (and what I got looking at my account on the website) for yourself, it is the total amount you have to pay them, including tax on the actual buyout amount.

We've had this discussion before on whether you owe the sales tax on a leased car when trading it and I honestly can't remember the answer. I suspect it's somewhat situational.

If you're required to buy the car in order to sell it, then I imagine you have to pay the sales tax. But if a dealer is taking it in on trade, then they are simply paying the lease buyout without having to pay the sales tax, since they're a dealer.

I know I didn't pay the sales tax on the V90 we traded last year.

I think the one catch is whether you get to reduce the sales tax you pay if you're trading for another car, but come to think of it, we got full credit for that purpose last year too.

Good question, we've been really happy with it so it wouldn't be cut loose from being dissatisfied. The truck goes back in August but it's likely to be replaced with another so no real urgency to do anything until the fall. An EV maybe? We were planning to give them more serious consideration when the Acura's lease is up anyway.

    Nearest is in Sacramento.

I'd like to see one of these sites make an "offer" instantly, not thrilled with having my name and number ending up on a list etc. Makes me wonder if buying out this lease at the end might end up being a better deal than trying to find a similar used car, or buying something else.

First time poster, but been reading this forum for a little while. Wanted to chime in with my own Carvana story.... When COVID first hit in March, my wife and I both went to WFH and only drove limited miles. I had a year remainining on a Mazda CX5 FWD (bought when living in the SF Bay Area) but since we weren't driving I decided to see if I could sell it and save money on the payments. Low and behold, Carvana offered me $4K above Carmax and anyone else to buy my Mazda. Between that money and the amount saved from not paying the lease for about 8 months, we saved a substantial amount which was then put into part of a down payment for a 2021 Hyundai Palisade AWD which better fits our needs (love the Palisade btw).

As for the question on taxes, I can only speak to Colorado but since Carvana is technically a dealership I was not responsible for sales tax. They worked with the Mazda leasing company (Chase) to determine the payout and handled everything. On the day of the sale, a Carvana employee showed up at my house (keys were left on the dash) took it for a 30 second test drive to the end of my street and back and promptly handed me a check. The whole process on the day of the sale took no more than 10 minutes. It was the easiest car selling/buying experience I've ever had. Given how much higher they were then anyone else I fully expected Carvana to come back and try to give me a check for less but I was pleasantly surprised.

@bpc428 - welcome, and congrats on the Palisade. What a wonderful vehicle. My neighbor had one but it was totaled in an accident recently and he ended up replacing it with a new Santa Fe.

My experiences with Carvana have mostly been positive - their weak point seems to be with title and registration. I was very clear about transferring existing plates on both my purchases and they basically ignored that both times.

At the dealership getting my X3 serviced. I was pleased that it was no problem to “refresh” the maintenance plan into my name, so this 20k service essentially cost me $100. It’ll be the last included maintenance since the car turns 3 years old next month, but obviously worth it just for this single service.

From @breld - Driving wise, it competes well with the Model 3, which is to say it was wonderful. Acceleration was quick - I think it splits the difference between a “regular” Model 3 and the Model 3 Performance.

I was asking about the model S which is the only one with which I have any seat time. I know nothing about the model 3.

Or are they the same thing?
I actually haven’t driven a Model S, so can’t make that comparison. But the Polestar 2 is somewhere in the 4’s for 0-60.

The immediacy and quick nature of the acceleration in these EVs is pretty crazy. Not saying it replaces the visceral response the driver gets from a V8 (like Q’s Camaro) or a nice inline 6 from BMW, but it’s thrilling in its own right.
When I drove the Tesla S it was thrilling at a whole new level so it would be nice if another EV was as impressive.

The color is actually striking in person.

The grill is also a bit better in person and I’m sure it will start getting more normalized as you see more on the road (on these M’s and the 4-series).

Since Colorado requires a front plate, I’m curious as to how it looks with the license plate. Could be better actually.

NJ treats leases differently on a trade in. You don’t get a sales tax credit on a traded in leased car, like you do if you own it (even if financed).

But Carvana like any other dealer, doesn’t pay sales tax when they buy from you so I didn’t have to pay tax like I would have if I bought my lease out.
