We had turkey that my dad cooked on the BBQ smoker the day before, and it was great. He cut it with some sliced, some pulled, and the legs and wings left on the bone. Dressing, mashed potatoes, peas, and my mom's peach cobbler with ice cream were also on the menu.

I’ve been doing this for a long time and have it down pat. I also don’t do the big vat - I use an “indoor fryer” which uses about half the oil.

Hey, now that sounds pretty good. Is it too early for me to start hinting about an invite for next year. I hope your mom doesn’t have any canned answers for guys like me. :(

We smoked a turkey in our Big Green Egg a few years ago. It turned out pretty good, but it was a time-intensive process.

I heard a guy on the radio today say he did the same thing you did using the same Green Egg thingy and he said it takes 8 maybe 9 hours. He said he put it in the smoker at 7 o’clock this morning. There’s no way I’m getting up that early to do a turkey even though I hear they taste very good doing it that way.

We smoked it a couple of days before Thanksgiving; I had to keep monitoring the temperature. We now have a BGE accessory that not only monitors the temperature but also adjusts the air flow to maintain the correct temperature.

Yup - lemons, oranges, rosemary, & thyme, salt, & brown sugar in the brine. Stuff it with oranges, onions, rosemary, thyme, sage. That was a 20 pounder. Next year I need to start it at 11:00 AM, not 1:00 PM.

I'm confused by the pic of the plastic bag as I see what looks like potatoes plus something wrapped in foil and citrus but not anything resembling a turkey?

As an avid anti-onioniste I grudgingly concede that a tiny amount of it chopped very fine can add flavor but most people go way too far with the onions for my delicate palate. :p

I took another look at the pic and guess what I thought was a yellow bowl is actually a yellow pail and the turkey is submerged in there. Now I get it. Still don't know what the silvery-looking spheres are though.

@ab348 I assume you're referring to this image. Unless I'm off my rocker, the "question mark" shape in the middle of the brine is the back end of the turkey and the stubs of the legs showing themselves. That is surrounded by three orange and two lemon wedges.

Looks like it needs more onion and garlic. :D

So I saw where Car and Driver and Motor Trend compared the new Bronco to the Wrangler. C/D gave the nod to the Bronco while MT preferred the Wrangler. In the end I expect the choice will come down to brand loyalty.

The Canadian Civic Si adds some features inside and out compared to the American version. For instance, the Canadians get fog lights, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, wireless phone charging, etc. You might think that Canadians pay more for all this, but according to this guy when you do the currency conversion Canadians actually pay less. Sounds like a good deal if you can get it. What happens if a US citizen buys a car in Canada and then brings it to the US? Probably isn't easy. And Canadians cars have a "value added tax" or vat....

I think they are having some difficulties. The programming has noticeably declined in recent months and now consists largely of meathead-quality productions (I use the word "quality" in its broadest possible sense). I have made a note in my calendar to cancel a few days before my next renewal date.

The brave new world of online streaming and publications seems to be in a rough patch right now. I am a subscriber to The Athletic, which is really well-done and useful if you are a sports fan. I signed on for an initial 6-momth deal for $1.99/month. It was due for renewal last month and I decided to cancel rather than start paying $5.99/mo. When I cancelled, they offered it to me for something like $26/year, so I re-upped at that rate. Now I see they are offering a 12-month deal for $1/month. Seems desperate.

I'm surprised that The Athletic can make it. They hired quite a few sportswriters that had solid jobs at big papers. In Cincinnati, they hired the main guy on the Reds beat at the Cincinnati Enquirer.
